Due to recent 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, broadcast and release scheduled are changed as follows:

  • The Nicovideo's Wednesday 27:00 live broadcast timeslot is currently listed as an unknown Madoka Magica broadcast, but it's unconfirmed whether it is episode 11 or not. A disclaimer reading "Due to the effects of recent earthquake in eastern Japan, broadcast may potentially get postponed depending on the situation. Please be forewarned." was added on the broadcast page instead. Twenty hours before the scheduled broadcast, Gen Urobuchi tweeted saying that the content of this broadcast is "unchanged" but the progress is unknown to him, too. See also: translation.
  • The MBS's Thursday 25:39 timeslot is currently listed as Quartet (カルテット) on MBS website.
  • The TBS's Friday 25:25 timeslot is currently listed as Locamitsu (ロケみつ Rokemitsu) on TBS website. Please note that TBS has not aired Episode 10 yet.
  • The CBC's Wednesday 26:04 timeslot is currently listed as JNN Reportage (JNNルポルタージュ JNN Ruporutāju) for March 23rd and is not listed yet for March 30th on CBC website. Please note that CBC has not aired Episode 10 yet.
  • Madoka Magica is scheduled to be rebroadcast on AT-X beginning with Episode 1 on April 2nd (the timeslot is 9:30 AM JST on Saturdays). According to schedule, Episode 11 should air there on June 11th, and Episode 12 on June 18th.
  • Gigazine posted that the show will resume on March 31th on MBS - however, Gigazine is not regarded as a reliable source.

What is Puella Magi Madoka Magica?

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika) is a production of studio SHAFT and Aniplex (under Atsuhiro Iwakami as main producer) directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, and written by Gen Urobuchi with original character designs by Ume Aoki, together forming a group called "Magica Quartet". Character designs were adapted by Takahiro Kishida and music was composed by Yuki Kajiura. It is an original anime from which many manga spin-off series have spawned. Puella Magi Madoka Magica began development after Akiyuki Shinbo expressed his desire to work on a new magical girl series to producer Atsuhiro Iwakami, while they were working on Hidamari Sketch and Bakemonogatari. The show's 12 episodes were broadcast on MBS, TBS and CBC, between January 6, 2011 and April 21, 2011, with a delay after episode 10 due to production and broadcast delays related to the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.

Plot

There exist "Messengers of Magic" who have the power to grant one wish to a chosen girl. However, that girl must then become a magical girl and fight against witches, evil creatures born from curses that are responsible for murders and suicides. A schoolgirl named Madoka Kaname and her friend Sayaka Miki are approached by one of those Messengers of Magic named Kyubey and magical girl named Mami Tomoe with offers of becoming magical girls, while another magical girl, Homura Akemi, tries to prevent Madoka and friends from making such a deal...
