Summary

A magical girl who has trouble talking to people and has been shy since she was little. Due to her isolation and the suffering she felt living every day, she was at the end of her rope, but after discovering the world of magical girls, she was able to pull herself up from rock bottom. She has grown emotionally, but there are still times when she is timid.

Doppel Description

The Doppel of electronic transmission. Its form is an electrocardiogram. The master of this emotion fears her Doppel’s power, which uses powerful electrical signals to burn away not just a target’s evil intent, but their whole personality along with it. However, she is also troubled by this power’s allure, as it may perhaps be the sole non-lethal method by which a human’s evil intent can be eradicated. This Doppel also has power over life and death; when it appears, its master’s mind temporarily separates from her body in an astral-projection state.

Side Story

Ren is looking out from a rooftop. Kyubey asks if she's going to waste her wish. Ren says it's different from last time and that she's given up on the world. She thinks about people saying hurtful things and says she can't live in a world like that. Kyubey tells Ren if she repeats her previous actions her Soul Gem will be destroyed. Ren understands.

Somewhere close by, Rika Ayano defeats a witch and then sees Ren trying to jump off the rooftop. She saves Ren and asks why she wants to jump. Ren can't answer, but thinks about how ever since she was a child, she's had trouble speaking. She thinks about how she was teased and bullied for it. She then chose to end her own life. However, when she jumped from the rooftop the first time she realized she was scared of dying. Kyubey was there to grant her wish, which was to live.

Kyubey explains that the bullying Ren went through was due to a witch. Specifically, witches hurt people, who then go to hurt other people. Ren resolves to destroy witches to create a better world. However, no matter how many witches she defeated, people still acted the same. Ren thinks she needs to destroy all witches, but Kyubey thinks it's impossible. Back in the present, Ren thinks this is the reason she wanted to commit suicide again. However, she can't explain a word of it to Rika. Rika then decides to take Ren to meet other magical girls she knows.

Rika takes Ren to a place called "Emiri's Trouble Consultation Office", and greets Akira Shinobu there. Ren is unable to introduce herself and nearly cries when Akira doesn't seem to care. Rika then introduces Ren to Emiri Kisaki who is in charge of counseling at the consultation office. Emiri brings Ren to Ria Ami, who gives her hand cream, and Konomi Haruna, who gives Ren camomile tea. Rika then suggests bringing Ren to the chemistry club, where they meet Hinano Miyako. Emiri suggests Hinano should make medicine for Ren, but she refuses. Instead she gives Ren candy.

Afterward, the group meets Kanoko Yayoi at her family's metal factory. Emiri asks Kanoko to show the dress she designed, which she calls a "mushroom thing". Kanoko insists the mushrooms represent mother nature. Emiri asks if Ren thinks this is cool, to which Ren agrees. Rika sasy that Kanoko aims to be a super fashion designer, and despite her taste in clothes lives without abandoning hope. Kanoko is annoyed that she was chosen to represent those who are positive in the face of struggle. She then gives Ren accessories made of metal sheets.

Emiri then says she has to leave, as Sasara Minagi is calling her. Rika admits that Emiri didn't actually listen to Ren's problem. Rika then tells Ren the story of how she became a magical girl. She explains she wished for the person she loved to love her back, even though they already liked someone else. Rika claims that she stole that person's love with her selfish wish. Rika then asks Ren if she thinks Rika's a horrible person. Ren is able to admit that she doesn't think so and is surprised to see that Rika is relieved. Ren asks why Rika talked about her wish. Rika says that if you want others to open up you have to talk about the secrets that create distance between people.

Ren tries to tell her story to Rika, but can't get out the words and starts crying. Rika tells Ren not to force herself. She shows Ren all the gifts she's got, and says if all these people were thinking about Ren, then she should continue to live. She says that while the world is filled with bad things, there are also beautiful things as well. Rika says the most painful thing is to have nothing. Ren says that she will live. A relieved Rika goes to leave, but before she does Ren thanks her. Ren thinks that if Rika is able to accept her story, then she'll be able to live forever.

Event Story: "The Diary I Wrote With You"

This is a sequel to Ren's sidestory. Ren and Rika team up to fight a witch. Afterward, Ren rescues one of the witch's victims, who is implied to have been witch kissed. The person is horrified to find they tried to commit suicide. Ren comforts them. Afterward, Rika notes that Ren has been working hard to save people lately. Rika tells Ren she is kind. Ren thinks that by becoming a magical girl she was able to live again, but she doesn't think she's kind or strong. As Ren and Rika depart, Ren thinks that she's able to live now because she met Rika.

Ren goes to a stationary shop to buy colored pencils. She uses these pencils to draw pictures in her diary. Every time she saves someone, she buys a new pencil. This time she buys a cherry pink pencil, which is Rika's favorite color. Ren thinks that Rika is cheerful, is good at talking to people, and has many friends - the exact opposite of Ren. She wonders if Rika is embarrassed by her. After buying the pencil, Ren thinks about how she made this little tradition to build her self confidence. Every pencil corresponds to a person Ren saved, and so by seeing all her pencils together she can see how many people she helped. She hopes to become someone who can stand beside Rika. As she wonders what to write in her diary, she thinks about how it's s still her own secret.

Later, Ren is talking with Akira. Akira is taking about an incident where a man was getting angry while Rika was laughing. It's revealed the girl's are at Emiri's consultation stand. Konomi appears bringing flowers from her aunt and is directed inside. Ren's narration explains that while the stand is open to normal customers it's also a hangout for magical girls, and it's where Ren and Rika usually meet. Akira resumes her story and says that Rika isn't the type to read the mood. Ren disagrees, saying Rika is always aware of Ren's own mood. Akira laughs and says Ren becomes talkative when Rika's involved. Ren is embarrassed by this observation. Then Emiri arrives with Rika, who asks if they're talking about her. Ren is flabbergasted. Emiri wonders if Ren was badmouthing Rika but they both deny it. Rika says her and Ren are close friends.

Ren marvels over how easily Rika can say she's close friends with Ren. She wishes she can say things with the ease Rika can. Later, Rika asks Ren if drawing pictures is a hobby of hers. Rika explains she guessed because of Ren's collection of colored pencils. Ren says she does draw pictures, but she's not very good. Rika really wants to see Ren's pictures, but relents when she learns they're in Ren's diary. Ren still considers showing the pictures to Rika, but then remembers what she wrote in her diary: All of the entries are about Rika in some way. Ren says she can't show Rika her diary. Rika is fine, and asks Ren to tell her if she changes her mind.

Etymology

• The characters of her last name mean "50" (五十) and "bells" (鈴) respectively.

Trivia

• Her illustator is QP:flapper.
• On September 15th, 2017, a botched update allowed players to get Ren before she was properly implemented. The developers subsequently decided to officially release Ren with an emergency update.
• Ren has an obvious angel theme, due to her staff, her transformation sequence where she grows angel wings, and the halo of her five star card.
• To date, Ren is the only playable character with two unique memoria cards.
