However, Kyubey also tells Madoka that he is incapable of manipulating humans, which contradicts the reason why he allowed Kyouko to chase after Sayaka in the first place: he wanted her to be killed so that only Homura would be left to battle the powerful Walpurgis, thus forcing Madoka to become a magical girl. This is clearly an attempt to manipulate Madoka's actions, making his earlier statement to her a lie.

***To our knowledge, Kyubey has thus far only accepted wishes that his species's technology can "grant:" the healing of a paralyzed hand (Sayaka), the rescuing of a girl trapped in a crushed automobile (Mami), mass mind-control (Kyoko), and time travel (Homura). While we don't know for sure the bounds of this technology, we definitely do know that Kyubey's species can't end the heat death of the universe on its own, meaning that Kyubey wouldn't be able to grant the wish "Save the universe from entropy!"

Anyway, one point regarding your translations: I don't think 冷徹に回る translates to "toward cold-headedness", just like how 冷静に見る doesn't translate to "look into composure". My Daijirin dictionary describe 冷徹 as 感情に左右されることなく、冷静に物事を見通すこと。また、そのさま。「―なものの見方」 so I guess the correct translation of that line should be "her wheels of fate move around calmly". == Summary ==
[[Sayaka]] finishes off [[Elsa Maria]], but refuses to use the [[Grief Seed]], giving it to [[Kyouko]], and doesn't feel well afterwards. [[Madoka]] helps her go back home. They are sitting on a bench with Madoka crying over Sayaka's actions. Sayaka tells that all that is left for her in life is fighting witches. Madoka tells that she wants to make Sayaka happy, but Sayaka runs away, telling [[Madoka]] not to follow her, while her Soul Gem is dimming.

[[Kyouko]] and [[Homura]] are talking about [[Episode_6#Observations|Walpurgisnacht]] in [[Homura_Residence|Homura's apartment]], [[Kyuubey]] appears uninvited and tells them about Sayaka's current condition. [[Madoka]] goes to Sayaka's apartment to find out that she's been absent since the day before. As [[Hitomi]] and [[Kyousuke]] are walking home, the two of them stop in a park and have a lively conversation. Sayaka watches from afar.

Homura speaks with Sayaka, trying to get her to use a Grief Seed, but Sayaka refuses. Sayaka accuses Homura of putting up false pretenses and always lying to them. Homura admits she is just doing things for Madoka's sake and prepares to kill Sayaka, but Kyouko interferes. Homura uses a flashbang grenade and escapes.　

Sayaka is riding in a train where two men are discussing and badmouthing their girlfriends and generally acting misogynistic. She interferes, asking them how they can speak this way about women who love them. Her train of thought grows progressively more nihilistic as she wonders why she bothered trying to save such a worthless world, and she begins to transform into darkness.

Madoka talks with Kyuubey and he tells her about her apparent power. She seems to almost agree to become a [[Puella Magi]], but Homura suddenly appears and riddles Kyuubey's body with bullets before she can form a contract with him. Homura then breaks down in tears in front of Madoka, who has a strange moment of realization and asks if she has met Homura before. Before Homura can answer Madoka excuses herself and goes searching for Sayaka, ignoring Homura's calling out to her. Another body of Kyuubey appears and eats his previous dead body. Kyuubey realizes that Homura is a person from another time, and Homura says Kyuubey's real identity is that of an "Incubator."

Kyouko finds Sayaka and sees that her Soul Gem is almost completely dark. Sayaka says that the hope and despair must always be in balance, starts crying, and her Soul Gem explodes, creating a maze with Sayaka apparently becoming a witch.

The episode ends with Kyuubey noting "since this country calls women who are still growing up {{Nihongo|''shoujo''|少女|girls}}, for girls who on the way of becoming {{Nihongo|''majo''|魔女|witches}}, it's logical to call them {{Nihongo|''mahou shoujo''|魔法少女|magical girls}}."

Can all the girls use telepathy? Kyouko did it too call out to Sayaka and Madoka, but I think the other girls need QB as an in-between.
I thought it was Kyouko's special ability: being heard by others. Like at the end of her fight with Octavia it seemed like she got through to her, as we saw Kyouko through Octavia's eyes.[[User:Cleo|Cleo]] 22:20, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
:We know that Madoka and Sayaka were able to do it, but they did have Kyubey with them... well, Kyubey is practically always with them in the first place. It'd be hard to tell. It's probably safe to assume he needs to be there, though.

:-My interpretation was that telepathic communication is part of the standard magical girl package, but a relay is necessary for normal humans to send back replies.

:Mami was able to communicate with Sayaka and Madoka in school without having Kyubey next to her. Then again, we don't know how far Kyubey can transmit messages, or how far away Mami's classroom was.

It is unclear whether a witch's familiar has the same energy signature as the original witch, and it is unclear whether soul gems can also detect victims of a witches' kiss.
*Telepathy: Magic girls are capable of telepathically communicate with others as needed. There appears to be a range limit for this.

*Erecting fencing: Kyouko can erect a impenetrable, latticed barrier to keep others from harm or to isolate her adversary.

*Energy manipulation: Kyouko is also able to shroud herself in a powerful magical glow. Whether it has any effect or is just for show remains to be seen.
*Soul Gem detonation: Suicide attack. Able to take out witches in one hit. It is unknown if other magical girls can also do this at will.
*Other abilities: Kyouko was able to keep Sayaka's (soulless) body alive with her Soul Gem. It is unknown if Kyouko alone can do this, or if all magical girls can.

==Magic Realm==
Witches and familiars reside in magical labyrinths of another dimension. These labyrinths interface with the real world at specific locations through an unknown mechanism, but can be entered by magic girls through ripping open [[barrier]]s. To attract normal people to their locations to 'eat,' witches infest unhappy people with a [[witch's kiss]], which either attract them to these locations to commit suicide (if unhindered) or kill them off with diseases. For this reason, witches tend to gather around violence-prone areas and hospitals.

The labyrinths consist both of elements from their locations in reality and of allusions to the witches that create them. Deeper within the labyrinth, more references to the witch will be seen and fewer elements from reality show up. For example, in episode one, the labyrinth is set in a floor waiting for refurbishing, and it was fulfilled with 'under construction' signs and barriers of a construction site. In episode two, the labyrinth is set in an abandoned concrete building, thus the rooms in the labyrinth are made of solid concrete, making its appearance differ from episode one even though the owner is the same. As the protagonists approach the the final room, elements of a rose garden start to dominate the construction elements. In episode three, the labyrinth is set in a hospital, therefore surgery signs, needles, gallipots, and wards are presented first, but deeper in, those are replaced by various kinds of desserts. The barrier can also be influenced by the strong emotions of the people within them, as seen in episode three when Mami and Madoka make their promise.

==Magical creatures==
Three types of magical creatures exist in Magica universe: [[magical girl]]s, [[witch]]es, and [[familiar]]s. However, because both familiars and magic girls can mature into witches, all three may be considered stages of a single species. Souls of magic girls and witches are separated from their bodies and reside in [[soul gem]]s and [[grief seed]]s, respectively. There is now visual, undeniable proof that Walpurgis Night is in fact [[Witch from the dream in episode one|the witch from the dream in the first episode]]. It is an extremely powerful witch neither Madoka nor Homura managed to defeat ever (well... "almost ever" if you want to be picky).
*Except not. In every timeline Walpurgis Night is defeated, but it always involves the death of Madoka in doing so, either through her literally dying in the fight, or through becoming a witch afterward from depleting her magic. More of a pyrrhic victory than a victory, though. It just so happens that Walpurgis Night's defeat always ends up in there being a worst witch than it afterward or Madoka's death.
*Also, Mitakihara Town has always been shown to be in complete ruins after Walpurgis's defeats, suggesting that Madoka never succeeded in fulfilling her (presumable) goal -- that is, to protect the population from Walpurgis.

Mephistopheles [Kyubey] notices that Faust's [Homura] relation to him is getting lose because of Faust´s love to Gretchen [Madoka] (a woman Faust made pregnant). He tries to get him motivated again by promising him a fantastic event on the Hexenberg (witch´s mountain). Meanwhile, Gretchen snaps and kills her baby. The event promised by Mephisto is the following:

One the night between April 30 and May 1, the witches meet the devil on the mountain. Faust decides to climb the mountain too, because he thinks he'd be able to solve some riddles there, but Mephisto made him dance with a witch instead. The dance comes to an end when a red mouse falls from the mouth of the witch, and a pretty child appear with a red cord around her neck. This reminds Faust of Gretchen, who has been condemned to death for drowning her child.

To distract Faust from his feeling of culpability, Mephistopheles then bring him to a hill where a play should be shown.

====Classical Walpurgisnacht====
In Act II of [[wikipedia:Faust,_Part_2|Faust Part II]], Mephistopheles transports the unconscious Faust into his old study. Mephistopheles, donning Faust's robe once again, resumes his conversation with the freshman, who is now a cynical baccalaurus. An artificial human made by Faust's former famulus, Wagner, by means of an alchemical process, the Homunculus, leads Faust and Mephistopheles to the "Classical Walpurgisnacht", where they encounter gods and monsters from Greek antiquity. * An average eighth-grader, the kind you could find anywhere. Even her bow-wielding magical girl form projects an air of kind friendliness. Her choker bears an impressively-sized red gem.
* Ms. Aoki’s Design Check!: I drew her keeping in mind that as the main character she needs to be average, but also an exceptionally good girl. Hence her puffy, high-placed twin tails. The design and color of her ribbons took a lot of work, but in the end calmed down to something simple.
* Magical girl outfit: Madoka was drawn to be the very image of a magical girl. I added an almost fairytale-ish hints, so hopefully female viewers will be charmed by her as well. (Aoki)

==Speculations and Observations==
*Madoka's power seems to increase exponentially, within each timeline. First time she was merely an ordinary magical girl. In the last timeline she already had enough power to defeat Walpurgis with one shoot then in the witch form she was capable to destroy the entire Earth. She also satisfied all Kyuubey's energy quotas for entire planet. In current timeline Kyuubey is claiming that Madoka's power could be called godlike. She is said to be capable of even changing the laws of the universe if she wishes for that. It may be interpreted as Kyuubey giving her hint what to wish, like telling her that she can revive her friends or change rules of this world, but Madoka is incapable to imagine her power.
**This can be related to Homura's wish which is contradictory to Madoka's fate. Since magical girl's wishes must be always fulfilled and fate cannot be changed, it requires to change rules to exit this cycle. And only way to do that is to make a wish.
* Theoretically there is also the danger that, should Madoka became extremely powerful and turn into a witch, her power may be enough to destroy not only Earth, but the entire universe.
** INCREDIBLY unlikely. Kyubey's species is (if they can be trusted) trying to save the universe in the first place, not trying to destroy it. They wouldn't create something they can't take down.
*** Then again, Kyubey remarked in the fourth timeline that he didn't know Madoka would turn out to be so powerful. While in this timeline he probably knows (and definitely doesn't care) that the witch form of Madoka could destroy the Earth, he may not know the full extent of her power.

Her formation in the second timeline involves thunderclouds coalescing into a giant humanoid (her name is not shown here in either broadcast, however, and thus it is not known whether this witch is also called Kriemhild Gretchen). According to [[Kyuubey]], her strength in the fourth timeline is of such a magnitude that she could obliterate the planet within ten days. Her appearance in both timelines is essentially identical (if one looks closely at her fourth timeline appearance, they will see the head at the top of the shadow between the outstretched arms), though in the second timeline only her head was really shown at all, with the body still forming.

Prior to the broadcast of Episode 9, it was unclear if the pronoun used specifically refereed to Walpurgisnacht, or whether the term Walpurgisnacht referred to an event or a being (a witch?).

There is now visual, undeniable proof that Walpurgis Night is in fact [[Witch from the dream in episode one|the witch from the dream in the first episode]]. It is an extremely powerful witch neither Madoka nor Homura managed to defeat ever (well... "almost ever" if you want to be picky).

He tries to get him motivated again by promising him a fantastic event on the Hexenberg (witch´s mountain). Meanwhile, Gretchen snaps and kills her baby [=Sayaka snaps and becomes a witch]. The event promised by Mephisto is the following:

One the night between April 30 and May 1, the witches meet the devil on the mountain. Faust decides to climb the mountain too, because he thinks he'd be able to solve some riddles there, but Mephisto made him dance with a witch instead. The dance comes to an end when a red mouse falls from the mouth of the witch, and a pretty child appear with a red cord around her neck. This reminds Faust of Gretchen, who has been condemned to death for drowning her child [Sayaka became a witch].

To distract Faust from his feeling of culpability, Mephistopheles then bring him to a hill where a play should be shown.

Homura is first seen by Madoka in a dream of her fighting a monster in a desolate landscape of skyscrapers. The day after the dream, Homura has transferred to Madoka's school where she gives her ominous warnings.

* Ms. Aoki’s Design Check: A blunt girl. I tried to let this shine through in her design. Her distinguishing point is her silky long hair.
* Magical girl outfit: Homura was designed with her personality and combat style in mind. I found her fascinating right away. (Aoki)
* The sharp lines of her upper back and jacket evoke her personality. Overall rather monochromatic. Her black tights have a diamond pattern.
* School uniform: She wears black tights in uniform too, leaving her overall feel just like in her magical girl outfit. She gives off the air of a silent beauty.
* Regardless of her reasons, Homura'a priority is preventing Madoka from becoming a Mahou Shoujo. Since that is not understandable by other Mahou Shoujos or Madoka, she decided to act alone.
* Homura is a magical girl from another timeline, as revealed by Kyubey. She knows that Kyubey is behind a sinister plot, and it mostly involves Madoka turning into a magical girl.
* Homura's special ability is revealed to be some kind of time-travel, which explains why she knows so much to the point of knowing exactly when and where certain things will happen. This also may be why she can move at blistering speed.
