The main strike against this theory is that if Mami transformed into a witch in that timeline, she wouldn't have lost her head against Charlotte.
:It could be seen as the fact that Mami doesn't have a very solid head on her shoulders, or maybe the witch's head as just hidden from sight behind the cage.
::Mami has a very solid head on her shoulders, as indicated by her fortitude and ability to withstand transforming into a witch for several years. Her attempt to kill the other girls in the third timeline, widely interpreted as an act of insanity, could actually be seen as a "solid-headed" decision: in order to prevent the other girls and herself from becoming Witches (and thus a threat to the people she wants to protect), Mami tries to quickly and painlessly end their lives. Momoism 01:01, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
:::Most people would call what she did 'snapping in the face of the truth'. It's generally the opposite of having a solid head if you don't have the ability to think things through before doing them after a harsh revelation.
::::She could have been thinking it through the whole battle with Oktavia -- assuming that they found out before the battle, rather than during it. Looking at the Population dynamics page, and considering Mami's dedication to protecting others even at the cost of her own well-being (she always kills familiars rather than let them grow into witches, which means less Grief Seeds to cleanse her Soul Gem), killing the other girls and herself really does seem like a rational -- but cruel -- decision. (It was not the best decision, but what else do you do when you have little time and the guy pulling the strings is invincible?) To be honest, if Mami wasn't crying and shouting during that scene, most people probably wouldn't think she had snapped. Momoism 01:00, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

The official description of the witch also seems to contradict this theory, suggesting instead a party girl who desired attention from others.
:Mami made her magical girl stuff flashy and attention-seeking. I don't think that particular line debunks the theory entirely.
::However, we aren't given any reason to believe that Mami was an alcoholic (as the card suggests Roberta was) or received lots of unwanted attention from men. Momoism 01:01, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
:::While the alcohol is unlikely (unless she spikes that tea and it was in our face all along) then yeah, that's unlikely. Though with the focus on her chest, attention from men must be a given.

I have a theory about Gisela's origins. It doesn't have anything to do with academics. She was probably a girl who wished for freedom from wealthy parents who simply cared about the family name and were so demanding of her, pushing her beyond her limit (which explains the fuel gauges in her Barrier). She probably wanted to go fast. That's why the Witch has a liberal nature. She's free from orders. but she's no longer has freedom of moving.
Walpurgis Night discussion
I have some (well-refined) speculah about Walpurgis Night's origins. There are two theories of mine:

1) Walpurgis is the witch form of Homura:
a) either from another timeline
b) because of The Global Reset Theory (please see http://wiki.puella-magi.net/Speculah:The_Global_Reset_Theory) so I think that because Homura has the power to create a second time line she can create many witch forms out of even herself.

2) If my first theory is not true, I have a second theory that Walpurgis is the witch form of a meguca who wished for her real name and identity to be completely unknown to anyone except herself (?) because Walpurgisnacht is only the alias of the witch. Her real name (and her minions too!) are just ?????.

Elly discussion
Elly's barrier and her Grief Seed may indicate that Elly shows love for both social network and video games, so we could assume that Elly is a magical girl who buries herself in dealing with digital devices.

In Beginnings, there is also a picture that appears before Madoka enter Elly's barrier, in which a man is serving food. Thus, Elly may be from a very wealthy family and the man may be her cook.

p.s.: We could also infer from her silouette in Episode 12 that her clothes as a magical girl is a typical Otaku wearing.
Here's the "logic" (for the not-shown witches, I tried connecting them to familiars, and admittedly Elsa Maria's justification is that I drew her similarly): // MsDevin92 02:06, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
** Also, I think it's notable that the silhouettes in Episode 11 appeared to be serving Walpurgisnacht. Their shiny appearance sort of resembled corrupted Soul Gems. Does Walpurgis turn the shadows of doomed Puella Magi into her familiars? Does she get more power for each defeated witch? MsDevin92 04:00, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

I will state the obvious here because I felt it was needed: There are only 10 unidentified figures, while there are twelve unidentified witches. Three witches weren't shown in the anime, so it might be two of them, or that it's actually all three of them and we have an extra figure that never appeared in the anime. The fact that the figure on the left is cut off might indicate that there are more figures on the left side. -- Universalperson 01:01, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
:The fact that there's two an not three missing makes it kind of a gamble. But I agree with you, there should be more to the left: I guess we'll have to wait for Word of God/Blu-Ray/alternative airing to see the whole picture. And I agree with the above user about Charlotte's possible Puella Magi form. That's very strong visual evidence, so I decided not to make a compilation for Charlotte.
Looks like Elly, Charlotte, and Walpurgis are settled. Since the Ika Musume one is right next to the main characters, like Walpurgis, it's probably another witch that was prominent in the show, like Elsa Maria or Gertrud. KM 00:14, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
I believe the one at the bottom (the last one in the ending picture) may be Uhrmann due to it's feral-ish appearance, which can be taken as canine by some. In the PN 05 image, the girl next to what I strongly think is Charlotte could perhaps be Uhrmann because her dress matches that of her minions. In the latest PN picture, I think the last two could be Suleika because the attire is mismatched (dressing in the dark to go with the speculah that she was blind *wink wink*) I retract my statement that she could be Roberta because it was revealed that she was indeed an older woman when she became a witch. Was there anything more in the PN about the witches or even the guidebook? ViralJuggernaut
:Ah, perhaps what the guidebook says about the design labirynths is a clue to their wishes? Charlotte's sounds like she wished for her dying mother to eat cheesecake instead of curing her disease. ViralJuggernaut
:: Those were likely early concepts that were changed later in development; for example the "train" barrier which probably became Oktavia -- Universalperson

I don't think that Albertine ever appears in the screenie. The reason is Albertine performs as if she, as a magical girl, was a very young and childish. She is expected to be shorter than Charlotte (probably a primary school student), but we could not find the figure that matches. --Adrian Syuh (talk) 03:54, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
Just bumping this to ask that someone upload the BD version of this screenie. Eager to know if there are more girls to the left, afterall. --BrickBreak 03:00, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Theory
Since the magical girl that greatly resembles Charlotte does not look at all like Nagisa, what if Walpurgisnacht's minions are gijinka-ized versions of the magical girls of the witches? Meaning that they are the original magical girls, but their outfits are similar to their witch forms. That's the only thing that I can think of that can account for the Charlotte-looking magical girl not looking like Nagisa. -ANTHONY 02:53, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
