Now of course it's almost a fruitless effort to disprove a speculation like this, but here's why I don't think Sayaka is the ultimate big bad:

Everyone sees the similarities between Sayaka's Puella Magi outfit and the witch in the ep1 opening, but I think they're just close similarities, not exact matches. There's just as many things that don't match as there are things that match.

The diagonal cut on the skirt *is* there in both, but...

* The witch has a full bell skirt, while Sayaka has a short and form fitting skirt that is pleated like a school uniform.
* The witch has a full petticoat under her skirt with a ruffly edge, Sayaka has a white trim at the edge of her skirt which matches the pleats on her skirt.

There is a loose cloth hanging from the top of both costumes, but...

* The witch's is more of a medieval headscarf, while Sayaka's is a cape hanging from her shoulders.
* The image claims that both cloths are white, but you can clearly see the runes through the witch's, which means it's a sheer translucent material, not a white cape like Sayaka's.

There is a claim that the witch's skirt is blue, but... with the weird end of the world lighting Homura's tights also look blue when we know they are purple, the building looks blue when we know that the concrete really should be grey... there's really only so man ways to draw shades of dark and most of them are cool and bluish.

In fact there are similarities to Mami's design, not just to Sayaka's. The witch's hairdoo has twin curly ends... like Mami's. The Witch's dress has a tight cinched waist... like Mami's. The witch's sleeves taper outward to become open bells (not like Sayaka's form fitting sleeves with separate cuffs)... like Mami's.

If you think about it, it would be hard for any witch design that was done by the same illustrator to not share some of these costume details because there's only so may ways to make a frilly dress.

Maybe Sayaka does meet a bad end. Maybe she does become the ultimate evil. But I'm not convinced that it's foreshadowed in these images anymore...

on homuras documents you can see the picture of the witch with the words ein Narr under it. Ein Narr means A Fool and that´s how Sayaka describes herself

What do we do, now that we know for sure this is Walpurgis Night? Do we keep this page as-is for archieving purpose, or do we modify it to reflect the newest changes? If we choose to update it:
*Shouldn't we rename it "Walpurgis Night"?
*What do we do about [[Speculah:Walpurgis Night]]? Do we keep both pages, one referring to the character in the anime, and the other being a general article (as it is now)? Or do we try to somehow merge the two?

Sayaka visits a terminally ill boy named Kyōsuke Kamijō, who was a violin player she admired when she was little. After another witch hunt, Mami tells Madoka and Sayaka that she was involved in a traffic accident and didn't have time to think about her wish. She also lets Sayaka know about the precedents of wishing for other people's sakes. Later that night, as Madoka helps her drunk mother and talks with her father, Mami is approached by Homura, who warns her about making Madoka a magical girl. The next day whilst visiting the hospital, Madoka and Sayaka find a Grief Seed that is close to activating, so Madoka goes in search of Mami whilst Sayaka and Kyubey enter the portal ahead of them. As Madoka and Mami catch up with them, Homura tries to warn Mami about the witch she intends to face, but Mami places her in a bind to stop her from following them. As they continue, Madoka mentions her wish is to simply be a magical girl and help others. Mami laments that her job as a magical girl has left her lonely and afraid, but feels relieved that Madoka wishes to fight alongside her. The Grief Seed begins to activate and Mami fights off the creatures and appears to kill the witch. However the witch suddenly transforms into a giant caterpillar, catching her off-guard and killing her. Homura, her bonds dissolving with Mami's demise, steps in and defeats the witch, claiming the Grief Seed, as Madoka and Sayaka become saddened by Mami's death. The runes that randomly appear in the Magic World have nearly been solved. This page is meant to show the current works and discoveries in the domain, as well as the latest discussions and hypothesis.

==History==

Initial efforts at codebreaking began by identifying each unique rune and assigning it a random letter for identification. The general (correct) assumption was that each rune corresponded to a letter in German but at the time it was still possible that the text was encrypted, a newly constructed language or even that they were just scattered completely at random. German was chosen as the most likely candidate because it appeared as direct quotes from Goeth's Faust and the Cottonballs/Pringlemen/Anthony's were observed to be chanting in German. Other candidate languages were; Japanese, English and Latin (due to the use of "Puella" in the title).

A number of codebreaking methods were tried unsuccessfully. For example; attempts at identifying the letters thorugh numerical analysis of their frequency failed, implying that the runic script was not really a language (see complications below). A more focused approach, taking a single word or short phrase and attempting to match an appropriate German word to it also failed due to large amount of possible matches.

After some urging to use the Faust quotes as a [[wikipedia:Rosetta Stone|Rosetta Stone]], an anonymous found and [http://green-oval.net/cgi-board.pl/a/thread/44782290#p44786690 posted] a line of runes which matched one of those quotes. The runes and the German sign they matched are marked in red on the translation chart for episodes one and two.

This discovery confirmed that the runic script was a direct substitution for German letters and provided an initial set of translated runes to work with. /a/ quickly got to work using this starting set to translate more lines and fill in the gaps. Within 21 hours of this discovery, the vast majority of runic text appearing in the first two episodes had been translated into German and English, all letters had been identified (except Q and X which are extremely rare in German).

:There are at least three structurally distinct variants of the runic script. The two most common variants are known as modern and archaic. Corresponding letters are generally quite similar with only mild variation in their overall structure but a few letters, such as T, are completely different from each other. The third and least common variant is constructed from elements found in musical scores, and many of the runes are unrecognizable.

== Refactoring the facts-speculations-finds pages ==

Some anons suggested that the theories page looks like a unattracting blob of text. Some other mentionned that it would be nice to be able to speculah'te over the trivia and observations. Yet another (or a samefag, that's not the point) started the Finds section because his content didn't fit anywhere else. So I think it's time to remodel all this a bit.
How about this:
*We rename the Trivia section to "Facts and Observations" or something of the like. On that page, we make a section per episode, then one subsection per observation. This subsection has the fact itself (matching with a pic if relevant), and a subsubsection where we write observations and speculations as one-liners, just like the Character pages. We should also make a visual difference between pure speculation and pure observations
*The texts in Shaftspeak are posted on the Runes page (or a subpage). For each interresting bit of text, we post a screencap, a translation, and observations/speculations. Same as before, one-liners are enough.
*The Theories page hence only has the general theories, the ones that combines pieces of speculations together. I think theories about Kamijou, for example, could be moved somewhere else (in the Characters page for instance)
*We can delete the Finds page since it's redundant with the rest.
