Amy is a short-haired cat whose fur is a purplish-black with white whiskers. The insides of her ears are light pink. Her sclerae are beige with light green irises.

[[Madoka]] states that she's tried to bring her home, but Amy wouldn't go with her, implying that Amy prefers staying on the streets. Apparently, she isn't very fond of most people, as evidenced when Madoka was surprised she jumped to [[Homura]]'s arms willingly.

==History==
Amy first appeared in the [[Connect|anime's opening]] during the scene where Madoka is lying on top of a lake. In that scene, Madoka is holding Amy to her chest. She never appeared in the anime proper.

Amy's story was eventually revealed in the first Drama CD. After being released from the hospital, Homura was walking to school and met Amy along the way. Homura talked to her for a bit before offering her a cookie. Afterward, while Homura was being guided by Madoka to the nurse's office, Amy appeared again. Madoka revealed she knew the cat and that her name was Amy.

She appeared a third time while Homura and Madoka were discussing the possibility of Homura becoming a [[Glossary|magical girl]]. Her appearance prompted Madoka to explain that her wish was to save Amy from being run over by a car. After Madoka warned Homura to not use up her wish on such a tiny purpose, Amy jumped into Homura's arms and licked her face, much to Madoka's joy. She then congratulates Amy for making a new friend in Homura. Madoka asked Homura to take care of Amy if anything should happen to her.

Some time later, while Homura is at home, [[Walpurgisnacht|a powerful storm]] forms outside, leading her to wonder if Amy will be okay. After some quick research, Homura deduced that Madoka might very well be in trouble. Worried, she rushed outside into the storm, trying to find her. Amy comes to her aid, guiding her towards Madoka's location. It is unknown what happened to Amy later.

* It was Madoka's kindness toward Amy that probably broke the cruel Puella Magi system. If Madoka had never have saved Amy in the first place, Homura would probably never have bonded with Madoka easily (nor see Madoka's kindness towards others, even to a cat) which moved Homura to do the same for Madoka in Timeline 1. And maybe Homura would never have found Madoka during Walpurgis Night without Amy as her guide. It can thus be said that her actions were crucial to setting the end of the cycle in motion.
*In ''[[Kazumi Magica]]'', a black cat named Toto appears multiple times in Kazumi's apartment. It can be speculated that this cat is Amy - however, it should be noted that the spinoff manga in question takes place in a different city than the main story.
**It should also be noted that the drama CD that introduced Amy was written by [[Masaki Hiramatsu]], ''Kazumi Magica'''s author.
*Knowing Madoka, it is possible Amy is still alive in the new world or she is with Madoka in the Puella Magi afterlife. Likewise, knowing Homura and how to-heart she takes promises made to Madoka, it is likely she went out of her way to save the cat and kill two birds with one stone by also preventing Madoka from wishing for her safety.

*Before the Drama CD was released, there were many [http://green-oval.net/cgi-board.pl/a/thread/46963355 speculations] regarding the cat in the OP and its relationship with the storyline and Madoka.
*Similarly, there were [[Wish_theories#Madoka.27s_Wish|many speculations]] regarding Madoka's first wish. The Drama CD explains that Madoka’s wish in the original timeline was to save Amy who was ran over by a car, which does not concur with any most known theories.

* When Homura met Amy for the first time, she nicknamed her ''Kuroneko'' (black cat), before she learned Amy's name from Madoka.
* In an interview with [[Gen Urobuchi]], he admits that he was not aware of any cat and that he was surprised when he saw it at the storyboard of the OP. The cat was never part of the original storyline, being a creation of SHAFT for the OP of the anime. However, SHAFT approached Urobuchi for the Drama CD and asked him to include the cat in it.
* Amy made her first official appearance in the Drama CD ''Memories of you''. It is speculated that she reappears again in the second Drama CD, [[Drama CD 2|''Sunny Day Life'']].

Yuuri was kindhearted and caring, trying to help other people. She seemed to enjoy both cooking and eating, and was devoted to her friend Airi. In fact, she became a magical girl with the sole purpose of saving her life. This devotion was reciprocated by Airi, as seen by her later actions.

Yuuri has so far only appeared in Kazumi Magica. She first appears in a single panel flashback in Chapter 4, although the reader is made to think she was the other Yuuri.

The truth is ultimately revealed via a flashback in Chapter 5 (that was really a vision created by the other Yuuri's witch form) and a short story called, "Puella Magi Kazumi Magica Special Edition ~ A Dream-Filled Spoon."

Yuuri and [[Airi]], classmates, met when Yuuri tried cooking for their entire class. A student claimed to have gotten food poisoning from Yuuri's cooking, which sent her into such a state of shock that she did not return to school until Airi visited her and helped prove that the student was trying to frame Yuuri.

Two years later, Yuuri is attacked by a witch and saved by a [[Michiru Kazusa|magical girl with a black hat and cape]]. She asks the girl to cure Airi, but she advises Yuuri to make a contract herself.

Yuuri visits her sick friend soon after, who has been told she only has three months to live. When she asks Airi if she wants to continue living, Airi says that wants to live longer and eat delicious things with Yuuri. Yuuri then gives her a spoon, which she calls a good luck charm. She then leaves to secretly contract with [[Kyubey]] so she can wish for Yuuri to be cured - it's implied Kyubey had been in contact with her prior to this, probably due to her having been saved by another magical girl. She next see Airi when she learns that her illness has miraculously healed. Airi claims that the spoon cured her, and Yuuri doesn't try to correct her.

Once she became a magical girl, Yuuri fought witches (she is also seen fighting against [[Kyoko Sakura]] in a flashback) and also cured the illnesses of other sick people. However, this put a strain on her Soul Gem.

Sometime later, Yuuri participates in a cooking contest for a restaurant. Airi gives her back the spoon, asking it to help Yuuri. Airi promises to take Yuuri to [[Tachibana|Bistro Tachibana]] if Yuuri wins. Though Yuuri makes it to the final round, she doesn't appear at the stage, prompting Airi to go look for her. Unfortunately Yuuri had transformed into a witch, right in front of them. As a witch, she nearly attacked Airi, but was killed by the Pleiades with a barrage of large arrows (similar to the ones Airi uses later, as Yuuri). When she dies, she drops the spoon that Airi gave back to her.

Later, Kyubey informs Airi about what happened to Yuuri, causing her to become a magical girl with Yuuri's appearance. Her sole purpose was to avenge Yuuri.

== Witch Form ==

Yuuri's witch form resembles a giant hypodermic needle, similar to her weapon as a magical girl. Giant forks come out of her body, which probably refers to either Yuuri's cooking talents or transforming into a witch during a cooking contest. The forks also contrast with the spoon amulet she carried, acting as a sort of evil counterpart; in fact, when the witch drops Yuuri's amulet, it possesses a dark fork in the handle in the opposite direction of the spoon (which then vanishes as the last part of Yuuri's witch form). Her witch form's name is "Arzt Kochen", which is German for "cooking doctor".

In volume 2's design notes, the witch is described by the illustrator, Takashi Tensugi with, "After shoving anesthetic into the humans who enter her barrier, she cuts out their injured parts and completely cooks them. However, there are no humans who can endure this surgery. There is nothing that she can save. Her familiars are forks. Attribute: (Excessive) devotion. Weakness: Things that have no need for her. Her cries(?) of 'pssh pssh' are the sound of her syringes and forks."

== Powers, Weapons & Abilities ==
Yuuri's magical girl form was only seen briefly. However, her weapon was a giant multi-needled hypodermic needle, likely used as a firearm. She also had healing powers, derived from her wish, which she used to heal other children with incurable diseases. However, using this power puts stress on her Soul Gem. Her outfit is also considerably different from the one Airi later dons, though they have the same color scheme and general aesthetic.

* Her last name means "flying bird".
* Her last name can also be used as a first name.
* Her first name is written in hiragana which has no particular meaning. However, when written in kanji, it can mean "advantageous" (有利).
* Kazumi has a brief trauma induced vision of Yuuri and Airi happily eating parfait in Chapter 6.
* Yuuri has a number of similarities to [[Madoka]] and [[Sayaka]]. Like Sayaka, she wished to heal another person, gaining healing powers as a consequence, picked up a fight with Kyoko for using her magic for others, and suffered the same tragic fate. * It is unlikely that Yuuri was a member of the Pleiades Saints, though she might have known of their existence.
** In chapter 12, it is revealed that {{Spoiler| Yuuri did know of them, as she was a friend of Michiru. She became a witch before she got the chance to meet them in person, however.}}
* In the bonus story Puella Magi Kazumi Magica Special Edition ~ A Dream-Filled Spoon, it was revealed that she met Michiru and that it was she who advised Yuuri to make a contract with Kyuubey.
* Yuuri might not actually heal the children, but merely transfer the disease to herself or to her Soul Gem, as it was said healing "was too much for her to handle".
* In chapter 16, there is a page where Yuuri is shown fighting Kyoko Sakura, while Michiru tried to stop them. The reason they were fighting could possibly be that Yuuri used her magic for the sake of other people, wishing for Airi to be cured from her disease, and curing other people with diseases as a Puella Magi. That probably prompted Kyoko to put up a fight with her for being a "naive idealist" and not using her magic only for herself. This pretty much parallels the anime, where Kyoko got into a very similar situation with Sayaka when she was first introduced.

Matsuri is a very cheerful and optimistic girl, often thinking positively and trying to make friends with others; she also always attempts to talk things out with people rather than fight them, and often attempts to dissuade her friends from fighting with others; for example, stopping [[Arisa Narumi|Arisa]] from beating up people and attempting to stop her from challenging [[Suzune Amano|Suzune]] to a duel to the death.

Matsuri is also very forgiving, as seen with Suzune — who killed many magical girls to prevent the births of witches — and [[Kagari Hinata|Kagari]] — who crafted a revenge gambit to make Suzune's life miserable, and was indirectly responsible for the deaths of all the magical girls Suzune killed.

Not much is known of Matsuri's home-life. She had a sister, Kagari Hinata, an unnamed father, and a caretaker named Tsubaki Mikoto. Not much is given on how Matsuri relates to her family before the events of ''Suzune''.

Matsuri used to be blind. It is unknown if she was born blind or how she handled her blindness.

Tsubaki often visited Matsuri's home, taking care of her and Kagari, and often told them stories. Tsubaki disappeared one day (due to becoming a witch), leaving the twins saddened, and Kagari also enraged. When approached by Kyubey after the disappearance of Tsubaki, Matsuri almost immediately wished to be able to see. The three began to search the town for Tsubaki, but failed to find her; however, they did find Suzune, after following the sound of the bell on the pendant that she was wearing - a pendant that originally belonged to Tsubaki. Kagari was confused by Suzune wearing Tsubaki's pendant, and apparently went home sometime after this discovery; Matsuri, however, followed Suzune to where she was hiding in despair near a house, and asked to become friends with her.

At some point after this, Kagari, now a magical girl, confronted Matsuri and erased her memories of Suzune as a part of her revenge gambit. Despite this, Suzune would later transfer into the same school and class that Matsuri attended.

As Matsuri makes no mentions nor allusions to Kagari during the story before volume 3, it can be inferred Kagari also erased herself from Matsuri's memory; the same can be said for memories of Tsubaki. It can also be inferred that Matsuri's father had his memories erased as well.

Matsuri's magic is light-elemental and sight-themed, stemming from her wish to see.

Her gauntlets can shine or shoot bright lights at her opponents; she also possesses the ability to search for others, though she states that this ability is best used as support in battle. Matsuri also appears to have healing powers; the strength of this ability is unknown.

Kagari is a girl with a playfully cruel nature, taking delight in teasing and tormenting her targets, to the point of sadism. She is also downright callous, showing no remorse when torturing or murdering people nor for any of the deaths she is indirectly responsible for, and shows no empathy for others. Kagari is a force to be reckoned with when she turns angry, often lashing out violently; she is also capable of holding extreme grudges, like the one she holds towards [[Suzune Amano]] for killing her caretaker, Tsubaki Mikoto, and will do ''anything'' she can to get revenge — even turning herself into a witch, if it means she can take out her targets.

In the past, Kagari is seen as more serious and easily irritated; this might come from having to take care of her sister, [[Matsuri Hinata]], who was blind at the time. In the present, Kagari appears to have a soft spot for her, choosing to knock her unconscious and carry her to her bedroom rather than kill her like she did with [[Arisa Narumi|Arisa]]; however, Kagari doesn't hesitate to try and kill Matsuri when she gets in the way of her goals.

Kagari's power is to alter peoples' memories and consciousnesses, as well as her own.

With this magic, she can create illusions. She uses this to change her appearance (as she used this to torment Suzune with an image of Tsubaki), turn invisible, and confuse others by using her magic to appear as someone else (as she confused Matsuri by covering Suzune with an illusion of herself).

She used her memory-altering ability to turn Suzune into a magical girl killer and erase Matsuri's memories of becoming friends with Suzune (though Matsuri's memories start to come back when Kyubey shows her a vision of Suzune's past involving Tsubaki). Kagari can also show other people visions; she uses this power to show Suzune her backstory, her wish and the reason why she became a magical girl, and the start of her revenge gambit.

Kagari also uses her mind-manipulation magic to greatly speed up her movements (being able to stab a high-speed Arisa, for example) and even turn herself into a witch.

She can also knock someone unconscious temporarily, an ability she once used on Matsuri.

==Observations==
* Kagari has a definite butterfly motif: the back of her hairstyle vaguely resembles a butterfly, the surrounding decoration of her soul gem is a butterfly, her grief seed has butterflies on it, and the symbol that appears when Suzune briefly shows the magic she absorbed to Matsuri is a butterfly.
* Present Kagari is never seen outside of her magical girl form.
** She is never seen attending school, nor is she ever seen in a school uniform.
* Kagari's powers could be described as "plot convenient" powers. She is the one who kicked off the whole story; she was somehow able to instantly appear in the middle of Suzune's and Arisa's fight and kill the powered-up Arisa; she conjured flashback sequences explaining her backstory with her magic; and she was able to turn herself into a witch when the battle between her, Suzune and Matsuri reached a stalemate.
** The memory-altering magic she used on Matsuri also conveniently faded away the moment Kagari arrived.
** In a way, this makes sense if you think about it: ''Suzune Magica'' is essentially the revenge plot Kagari crafted, and as the "writer" of the plot, she'd always have some way to drive it forward.
* The book familiars of Kagari's witch (one of which ate Matsuri) have covers that resemble the design of Tsubaki's magical girl outfit.
* The outfit of the outer body of Kagari's witch resembles younger Kagari's outfit. The body also seems to be coming out of a book resembling the picture book about a witch that Tsubaki was seen reading to the twins; the body also has long, trailing strands of hair, like the picture book witch's hair.
** The outer body also resembling a harlequin might refer to Kagari's trickster-like or insincere nature.
* Kagari is never referred to in the Japanese text by an honorific, only ever by her first or full name. This does not include Matsuri calling her "onee-chan", which means "big sister" and doesn't use Kagari's name.

* It's possible that Kagari might be a sadist, or have a sadistic nature: Kagari playfully torments and sadistically teases Suzune, takes cruel delight in torturing her and attempting to kill her, laughing ''very'' madly when Suzune is supposedly about to turn into a witch, and in the flashbacks where she's planning out her revenge gambit, appears ecstatic at the thought of Suzune's despair (while wide-eyed and blushing, even).
** Kagari seems to have even fallen in love with the idea of getting her cruel revenge on Suzune.
** Kagari doesn't display such behaviour towards Matsuri, however, only heartless anger and rage, among attempts to kill her, and it's Matsuri defeating Kagari that makes Kagari pull out becoming a witch as a last resort. Nor does Kagari target Arisa; instead, Kagari merely kills her without blinking an eye. This indicates that Suzune is the sole target of Kagari's sadism.

However, his books stopped getting accepted by publishers; thus, Chisato's father turned drunk and started abusing his wife, leading to her health declining, before she eventually died. Chisato's father's abuse then turned on Chisato. Thus, Chisato made a contract to change her father back into the kind man he used to be. Chisato inwardly thinks of herself as terrible for making such a wish, however.

Arisa is confident yet hotheaded, and tends to be rather brash. In the past, she used to be more self-deprecating and timid, wearing a more demure hairstyle to suit, but become more hot-headed, carefree, and outwardly self-confident some time after making her wish. As well as this, Arisa became a rule-breaker, often truanting, and even beating up other students. However, while Arisa kept up a confident facade, she was depressed because she was lonely; that is, until she met [[Chisato]] and eventually became one of the Hoozuki magical girls, where she grew out of her loneliness thanks to her new friendships.

Despite her haughty attitude, Arisa can be kind and caring at times, although she sometimes displays reluctance at this. She also appears to be rather laid-back and lazy, though she loves fights; she is also rather carefree at times.

Despite their clashing personalities, she is very close to Chisato, likely due to being Arisa's first friend. Arisa becomes very distraught after Chisato's death, becoming angrier and more hot-headed, as well as more sorrowful in private, and regressing back to her previous rule-breaking and beating up of other students; she also grows an extreme hatred towards [[Suzune]] for killing Chisato and attempts to kill her in revenge via a duel to the death.

Not much is known of Arisa's home-life.

She used to be a victim of bullying, being bullied by a trio of girls led by [[Mika Nishinaka]]. The girls did things like stuffing trash in and writing graffiti on Arisa's desk, stealing her money, and beating her up. Arisa appeared to not to have help from anyone, with people apparently avoiding her and outright saying they were glad that she was being targeted instead of them, despite pitying her and showing sympathy. When approached by [[Kyubey]], Arisa asked for the strength to stand up to the bullies, and thus confronted and drove them off when she crushed Mika's hand in her own. Arisa then proceeded to put them in the hospital as revenge; it can be assumed that they left her alone after that.

However, Arisa became more troublesome along with her new confidence. She became a truant, often skipping school to play games in the arcade, disobeyed the rules often and did things such as ate and drank in class, and became a bully of others herself. While Arisa kept up a confident facade, she was depressed because she was still lonely; she had thought becoming strong would change that, but nothing changed.

Because of this, after confronting and being beaten by Chisato in a fight during their first meeting, Arisa asked Chisato to kill her. However, Chisato told her that Arisa's loneliness was not because of her strength, but because of her personality, and offered Arisa to join the group. Arisa refused at first, claiming she "wasn't good with people", but eventually caved and joined the Hoozuki magical girls. Thus Arisa shed her loneliness due to her new friendships, and some of her more rebellious traits due to Chisato. She holds Chisato in high regard because of their meeting.

While one her way to school with [[Matsuri]] and Chisato, Arisa complains about how school is extremely boring. She'd much rather be outside doing something active than sit inside and be forced to study.

Arisa has superhuman strength and speed as a result of her wish. She seems mostly in control of her abilities, but sometimes loses control when she becomes emotional; for example, crushing Kyubey's head in her fist out of anger. Chisato comments in her backstory that Arisa is bad at managing her strength and speed, but how bad and how that compares to her in the present is unknown, as the fight is not shown. Suzune describes Arisa's magic as "boost magic".

She has the ability to power up her strength and speed temporarily, either as moderate boosts or maximum power boosts, at the cost of burning through a lot of her magic.

She also appears to have a teleportation power, as used once in a battle with Suzune. However, it should be noted that this only happens after Arisa has maxed out her strength and speed, and is never used before then, so it could be simply her moving so fast that it looks like she is teleporting.

* Arisa shares several traits with [[Kyoko Sakura|Kyoko]]: a hot-headed, abrasive attitude; laziness and disregard for school rules; Arisa even wears a hoodie at one point.

* Arisa appears to like striped stockings, as her magical girl outfit has them, and she is seen wearing a pair with her casual clothes in volume 2.
* The bottom of the "shirt" of her magical girl outfit resembles a harlequin's. Since Arisa's magical girl outfit appears to be a mishmash of things, however, this point likely has no deeper meaning.
* In a flashback where she asks Chisato what her wish was, Arisa appears to be nervous, stuttering a bit.

However, I question this for two major reasons: 1) A source for this tidbit of information isn't provided and 2) It's been six years since Madoka's was released. Amy first appeared in the [[Connect|anime's opening]], being hugged by Madoka. However, she never appeared in the anime proper.

Amy's story was eventually revealed in the [[Drama CD 1|first drama CD]]. After being released from the hospital, Homura was walking to school and met Amy along the way. Homura talks to her for a bit before offering her a cookie. Afterward, while Homura was being guided by Madoka to the nurse's office, Amy appeared again. Madoka revealed she knew the cat and that her name was Amy.

She appeared a third time while Homura and Madoka are discussing the possibility of Homura becoming a [[Glossary|magical girl]]. Her appearance prompted Madoka to explain that her wish was to save Amy from being run over by a car. After Madoka warned Homura to not use up her wish on such a tiny purpose, Amy jumped into Homura's arms and licked her face, much to Madoka's joy. She then congratulates Amy for making a new friend in Homura. Madoka asks Homura to take care of Amy, should anything happen to her.

Some time later, while Homura is at home, [[Walpurgisnacht|a powerful storm]] forms outside, leading her to wonder if Amy will be okay. After some quick research, Homura deduces that Madoka might very well be in trouble. Worried, she rushes outside into the storm, trying to find Madoka. Amy comes to her aid, guiding her towards Madoka's location. It is unknown what happens to Amy later.

And maybe Homura would never have found Madoka during [[Walpurgis Night]] without Amy as her guide. It can thus be said that her actions were crucial to setting the end of the cycle in motion.
*In [[Kazumi Magica]], a black cat named Toto appears multiple times in Kazumi's apartment. It can be speculated that this cat is Amy - however, it should be noted that the spinoff manga in question takes place in a different city than the main story.
