Madoka Magica Online

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Online is a multi-player browser-based freemium game based on Puella Magi Madoka Magica settings. It is open for play, with some regional access restrictions. The game is free to play but Platinum coupons for a slim chance to get premium items and Action Point immediate restoration items are purchasable from the cash shop.

Current Events 12/16: The event quest speedrun event has been updated. Clear 31 through Klein in 4 runs each to get a U musket. Clear 1 through 30 in 4 runs each to get an SS musket. Previous achievements have been reset, so you have to do them all again if you did them before maintenance. 12/16: The WOWOW quest has been added. It involves a battle against Walpurgis, lampposts, and drops including lots of medals (10 from the boss plus some from chests, which also give weapon fodder), SS trumpets, a Towel Mami stat card, and a U musket. The map is shaped like a W. 12/16: PVP points have been reset and will once again be used for prizes. 12/09: There's a Limited Login Bonus with prizes including an SS Nagisa skill (it's actually a stat card with 130/100/215 at level 1. Suffering.) for logging in every day. Don't miss any! 12/09: The 30 minute Walpurgis quest is back, and to celebrate the anniversary of Rebellion, there's a chance of getting a U Moemura skill. 12/09: Level raid Madoka and pastry Nagisa for prizes. They'll each get you the usual rewards, and you can get a pink metamorphosis ticket each for bringing them to max level. 12/09: Event quest clear rewards will be doubled for beating the quest within 3 turns. This is currently bugged so you can do it in more than 3 turns. The bug should be fixed in the next maintenance, which will also introduce guns for clearing many levels in 3 turns. Clear level 20 30 times for an S musket. After the fix, beat levels 1 through 30 within 3 turns each for an SS musket. After the fix, beat levels 31 through Klein within 3 turns each for a U musket. 12/02: Get prizes based on how many times you kill each raid witch. Prizes are awarded for 5, 10, 25, and 50 kills. 11/25: Premium Metamorphosis tickets have been added and will be awarded for getting at least 9 team battle wins. These tickets last for a limited time and can buy SS Kazumi characters (or U if you get 12 wins). 11/11: Limit breakers (cards that allow any weapon of the matching rarity to increase its level cap) are here. The lobby has been decorated, concert Sayaka is the raid meguca, and Christmas megucas are available from raid tokens. The team battle rewards are Christmas Nagisa and casual Mami with shorts. 12/15: A bug caused megucas to be naked while wearing the red login bonus dress. It has already been fixed. 12/09: The medal shop has premium metamorphosis ticket megucas. They cost 5 or 6 medals in addition to premium tickets. You can't buy them if you only have medals. The shop also has a U golf club. 12/09: Event quests have been updated. 1, 6, 11, 16, and 21 have story text. 12/02: You can now fight raid witches from the town map, so it's not necessary to go back to the lobby. 11/25: A bug prevented teams from matching properly and prevented raid boss assists. The bug has been fixed, and you may need to delete your browser cache as a result. 11/20: Basketball Madoka looks like Rock Band Madoka due to a bug. 11/11: Limit breakers have been added to the game. These cards allow you to raise the level caps of weapons without needing duplicate weapons. 11/4: A quest speedup button has been added. In most quests (but not PvP) you'll see a new circular button on the right. Click it to increase the game's speed. 11/4: The level cap has been raised to 170. To celebrate, there's an event which awards metamorphosis tickets for leveling up during the current raid. 11/4: A warehouse feature has been added. This is basically a second inventory which allows you to store spare items. The warehouse items are only loaded when you open the warehouse, so it puts less strain on the servers than normal inventory space. 11/4: Team battles end at 4am JST now. They begin at 5am JST. 10/10: The official blog has been updated with a preview of the new team system! A test is planned for next week. Teams appear to be one-time groups (as opposed to permanent guilds) and the interface suggests something like massively multiplayer co-op. 9/26: Emergency maintenance took place to fix a bug with a display error with bamboo leaves and aprons in the shop. 9/9: A stat point reset item has been added to the shop for 500 GG points. 9/02: Madoka Online is celebrating its second anniversary! After 2 years, you're all in your last year of middle school now, and the senpai are headed to high school. Meguca Guild News Update June 2014: No news! If you can correctly guess what year any of this will happen in, I'll send you some gems when trading is implemented! There are five worlds (servers), each named after a witch: Shadow (シャドウ), Rose (ローズ), Dark (ダーク), Silver (シルバー), and Mermaid (マーメイド). Mermaid is only available to Yahoo users, while the other four are available to either GG or Nico users. Once you choose one, your account will be locked in to it. Troubleshooting

Unplayability

• If you get an Apache 2/CentOS test page(previous) or a Forbidden 403 error(current), you may need to use a proxy to bypass IP blocks. Certain blocks only apply to the signup and login areas, so some users have been able to log in with proxies and switch to direct connections after world server selection screen.
  • Try using the Nico client to play the game if your IP is blocked: http://app.nicovideo.jp/app/ap110
• The game will load a large cinematic the first time you play. This can cause extended loading times in excess of 5 minutes, and you may need to relaunch the game if your connection to the server fails during loading, causing you to become stuck at the loading screen.
• If the game is freezing when you try to enter pvp or co-op, or when you try to access any feature changed in a recent maintenance, try clearing your browser's cache and restarting the game.
• If you frequently get the "server can't get status" error while using the QB Box or weapon synthesis, try using a different browser. There has been a case where the error persisted after handling the cache and cookies, but was fixed by switching from Chrome to Firefox. It is speculated that in such cases the error can prevent you from receiving some items, so don't ignore these errors.
• If the game will not load after re-logging in after your first time, it might be because of your character name. Try creating a new account with a character name using only 'normal' characters (A-Z, Hiragana, Kanji, Katakana with no spaces, underscores or other funny characters). Might be related to the following point.
• The chat and automessage systems don't allow some common characters such as spaces and periods. You'll get an error message if you try to use them. Some English swearing is also blocked. Note that the double width question mark works, but the normal one doesn't.

  • Illegal: .$%^*()-,/':"?-- space
  • Also allowed: ´・ω・`：。β★◆●【】※・ー一！）（「」┃○‐
• Mobile users may be able to play by using software such as Teamviewer to remotely run the game on a PC. The browser Puffin from iDevices has been reported to be able to play the full game, including battles that fail on most mobile devices, but you must mute the music before closing the game or else it will continue playing.

Miscellaneous

• For people who bought their Charlotte or Walpurgis mini-nendroid, please make sure you empty your accessories slot before entering your serial-number.
• In-game mail from other players will be automatically deleted after 10 days.
• Some presents, such as items found in quests while your inventory was full, will expire after a short time. Make sure to retrieve your presents quickly.
• Presents from special events are often sent some time after maintenance ends, not immediately after the servers come up. Presents can expire before the time listed in the presents window entry.
• The game constantly transfers data through 113.192.241.11/amf/gateway.php and any downloads or uploads to it that take too long will cause you to disconnect. The timeout has switched between 5 and 30 seconds, and is currently believed to be 30 seconds.
  • It was 5 seconds until the 11/21 maintenance, 30 until 11/28, 5 until 12/4, and 30 following the 12/4 maintenance. Changes in the limit have greatly affected the number of disconnections players experience.
  • When initially entering the game, you must transfer about 40KB within the time limit. Prior to 11/28, it was 167.17KB. The developers appear to have reduced the size of each transfer to prevent disconnections.
  • Cheat Engine can be used to reduce the game's speed, tricking it into giving players more time to transfer data, which reduces the number of disconnects. This can be particularly useful at the end of a PVP match, when disconnections and freezes are likely to happen.
  • If you are having trouble connecting, make sure that nothing is interfering with your access to the gateway IP.

Performance

• Some users have found that the game runs better in Chrome than Firefox.
  • However, other users have solved errors by using Firefox instead. Try a variety of browsers if you're having trouble playing. Reports indicate that the IE10 and Apple Flash engines may perform better than Firefox as well.
• Reducing the game's graphics quality can dramatically lower CPU load.
• If you're getting disconnected frequently, avoid using flash-based sites in other browser tabs or running P2P applications such as bittorrent in the background.
• High server load can cause issues such as being stuck at a loading screen or getting stuck with a grayed out screen while trying to load a menu.

Errors

• If you get the error pictured below while trying to open a Kyubey BOX, your inventory is full. You can have only a limited number of each type of card (weapons, clothes, accessories, skills). Sell some to make room. The numbers along the side of the Kyubey BOX screen tell you how much space you have left in each card category.
  • If you still can't open the box after making sure you have space in all 4 card categories, check your presents. Open the history screen from the lobby (icon: papers with quill pen). Go to the packages tab and collect the card that was withheld due to the inventory being full. After clearing your inventory and packages, Kyubey BOXes should work again. Presents that must be opened often have the word "BOX" in their descriptions.

  The red 50/50 means the inventory is full. Categories: weapons(full), clothes, accessories, and skills.

  You were disconnected during a quest. Click the right button to resume where you left off.

  You can't have more than one of the same SS character. Tickets will be refunded.

• 

  Your present could not be claimed. This may be caused by not having enough inventory space (there may be multiple items in one present, and you can only have 999 tickets) or the expiration of the present.
