Madoka Magica Online

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Online is a multi-player browser-based freemium game based on Puella Magi Madoka Magica settings. It is open for play, with some regional access restrictions. The game is free to play but Platinum coupons for a slim chance to get premium items and Action Point immediate restoration items are purchasable from the cash shop.

1/13: Become @Madoka_online's followers and get the coobie accessory before 1/22 4:00 pm (JST).
- If total followers achieved 27,000, we'll get Skill Fusion EXP 1.5x.

12/26: New PVP rewards have been announced. S Madoka and Sayaka are available at 3000 and 8000. If you already have both of them, you'll get an SS and S Mami-enhanced magical bat for reaching 8000.
12/26: Get SS guns for opening the platinum box. The campaign lasts until 1/8.
- 50,000 coins, 1 AP pot, and 10 special tickets for every 5 openings (15 plats)
- SS guns of varying levels for opening 30 to 100 times. The weapons are high tier.
12/26: Complete sets of EX cards by 1/8 for casual Madoka, movie Sayaka, and a broom. If you already have the megucas, you'll get plats instead.

12/21: To celebrate Madoka Online's WebMoney Rookie of the Year Award, there will be several bonuses:
- For each day you log in between 12/22-12/25, you'll get 2 QB weapon fodder cards
- If you log in at least once during that period, you'll get a white snake scarf and a New Year box accessory
- Seven new EX cards will be available from 12/26 until 1/8.
  - Get Mami from logging in, get QB from PVP chests, get Madoka and Homura from special quest rewards, and get team cards and Kyoko from story quest bosses.

1/11: You will be able to equip two skill/stat cards at once on each character after 1/22. You can't use two skill proc cards at once. Start preparing your 92 DEF RR cards.

1/10: In the 1/15 maintenance, the following cards will be removed:
- Platinum: SS Single-target Kyoko skill (May be added to the special box)
- Special: SS Single-target Homu skill and the 3 MadoHomu hand-holding EX cards.
12/27: Weekly Maintenance on 01/01/2013 has been cancelled. The next maintenance will be on 01/08/2013 instead.

Maintenance Changes: 1/8

Story quests from 1-1 to 2-5 will give 1.5 times EXP
PVP rewards include school uniform Kyokos, and enough of them for a Rosso Fantasma. S at 12,000, RR at 6,500, R at 2,000, and N at 120 PVP points.
A new limited log in bonus will replace the New Year's one, and will last until 1/22. The first bonus is an S weapon.
Every level up from 2 to 30 will have an achievement rewards. See the Events Page for details. Higher level characters only need to complete any quest (including PVP) to get the rewards. Total rewards for a level 29+ include 46k Coins, 90 Browns, 45 purples, 4 AP potions and 1 weapon & skill fodder.
[pay2win] Beginner's Box for 100 yen will be added to the cash shop, containing 1 AP pot, 10 purple tickets, and one 20RR weapon. The New Year's "lucky bag" sale ends.
1.5x skill fusion EXP is ending.
The treasure chests in PVP will be removed and replaced with 100 damage traps.
5 new series will be added to the picture book.
QB Box removals:
- Platinum: Christmas Homura and Kyoko along with their outfits and stat cards
- Special: 7 EX cards, and the SS sword, bow, and lance.
The EX card availability from special stages' achievement reward has been extended.
QB Box additions:
- Platinum: New Year's Mami is here, with two stat cards, clothing, and an accessory. Since Mami doesn't have time for a boyfriend, the new U card features Madoka and Homura cuddling, with up to 490ATK at max level.
- Special: 3 new Hand-holding EX cards will be added. Collect all of them to get a lovely accessory and dress.
  - The items may be the head protector and green outfit pictured at the bottom of this announcement.
- Variety: A squirrel tail and purple dress have been added.
The chances to get U and SS cards from the platinum box have been changed to 1% and 15%, down from 1.5% and 18%, but the chance to get weapons has not decreased. The chances to get EX, S and RR from the purple box are 2.1%, 3.8%, and 33.1%, changed from 1.5%, 4%, and 32.7%.
The +25 DEF black cat accessory from A-40 has been changed to +50. This applies retroactively to accessories you already have.

Maintenance Changes: 12/26

The A levels have been redesigned and Special Quests are available after the 12/26 maintenance. 50 quests have been added.
- Quests vary widely in difficulty, allowing newer players to participate and challenging the strongest girls.
- AP costs vary between 1 and 50.
- There are rewards for clearing each quest and low-probability drops for every 5th level. Rewards include EX cards, tickets, coins, fodder, +def outfits, and accessories.
  - Accessories include U hats with +60-75 def, Black nekomimi ears+tail combo +50 def, witch's hat +50 def, black cowboy hat, white cat on head, white animal ears, orange glasses, and a white cat-eared pervert hat.
- The new levels must be unlocked in order. The first one costs 1 AP. They give 0 exp and 0 coins, but you can get QB fodder from the chest (drop rate unknown, most likely very low). Gertrud is only level 5 in the first stage, so even rookie magical girls can beat her.
- There are 5 levels per grief seed. The first grief seeds look the same, but are ordered from left to right, top to bottom, so you'll be able to judge difficulty by map position.
- Sunset level 2 Gertrud has an Anthony familiar. Gertrud gains 3 levels with each new stage, and she gains additional familiars including Adelberts and multiple Anthonies in higher levels.
Updates to the Kyubey boxes:
- Special: The previously removed SS sword, lance, and bow are back. Several new EX cards have been added. The chance to get EX has increased to 1.5.
- Platinum: New Year's Madoka has been added with matching clothes and an accessory. A new U sword has been added with 7950 max atk (the original U sword had 7800). The chance to get U is up to 1.5% and SS is up to 18%.
The Christmas lobby is over, and the lobby is normal again, even though it was still Christmas in California when this change was made.
The 12/26 Maintenance removed the Mami and Sayaka Christmas cards as well as three of the EX cards.
- A bunch of new EX cards have been added.

Maintenance Changes: 12/18

All weapon fusions will provide 50% more EXP than usual for this week only.
There will be chests in PVP that have a chance to give EX cards. They will only be present until 12/26 and will replace some traps.
Since enough witches were killed in last week's event, rating points gained in PVP will be doubled this week.
1.5x EXP for all story quests will continue for another week.
- Elsa Maria has been fixed and will properly give 1.5x instead of 1.8x EXP.
QB fodder cards will drop twice as often in A-X levels.
Christmas boxes will remain on sale for another week.
HP recovery after PVP is now permanent, to everyone's surprise.
QB box changes:
- Platinum: Christmas Madoka cards removed.
- Special: The EX cards have been replaced with new ones.

Maintenance Changes: 12/11

New EX rarity! EX items will be EXclusive rewards from events, contests, and limited time releases. Some will be available in QB boxes (contradicting initial reports).
- From 12/11/2012 to 12/18/2012, 3 EX cards featuring images from last year's NewType Magazines can be obtained from Special(Purple) Kyubey Boxes at a rate of 0.2% chance. Link#1, Link#2
  - These cards start at 60HP/30DEF/30ATK and cap out at 120HP/60DEF/60ATK.

- 500 points = 6 plats, 1 AP pot, 2 QB Weapon fooder, 30k coins
- 1000 points = 12 plats, 2 AP pots, 6 QB Weapon fooder, 90k coins

PVP points will reset.

There are four worlds (servers): ローズ (Rose), シルバー (Silver), ダーク (Dark), and シャドウ (Shadow). Once you choose one, your account will be locked in to it. For a list of players on each world, see the Meguca Online Spreadsheet, which also contains the Suffering Calculator and Weapon Damage Calculator.

Troubleshooting

Unplayability

If you get an Apache 2/CentOS test page(previous) or a Forbidden 403 error(current), you may need to use a proxy to bypass IP blocks. Certain blocks only apply to the signup and login areas, so some users have been able to log in with proxies and switch to direct connections after world server selection screen.

The game will load a large cinematic the first time you play. This can cause extended loading times in excess of 5 minutes, and you may need to relaunch the game if your connection to the server fails during loading, causing you to become stuck at the loading screen.
If the game is freezing when you try to enter pvp or co-op, or when you try to access any feature changed in a recent maintenance, try clearing your browser's cache and restarting the game.
If you frequently get the "server can't get status" error while using the QB Box or weapon synthesis, try using a different browser. There has been a case where the error persisted after handling the cache and cookies, but was fixed by switching from Chrome to Firefox. It is speculated that in such cases the error can prevent you from receiving some items, so don't ignore these errors.
If the game will not load after re-logging in after your first time, it might be because of your character name. Try creating a new account with a character name using only 'normal' characters (A-Z, Hiragana, Kanji, Katakana with no spaces, underscores or other funny characters). Might be related to the following point.
The chat and automessage systems don't allow some common characters such as spaces and periods. You'll get an error message if you try to use them. Some English swearing is also blocked. Note that the double width question mark works, but the normal one doesn't.

Mobile users may be able to play by using software such as Teamviewer to remotely run the game on a PC. The browser Puffin from iDevices has been reported to be able to play the full game, including battles that fail on most mobile devides, but you must mute the music before closing the game or else it will continue playing.

Miscellaneous

For buyfags who got their Charlotte or Walpurgis mini-nendroid, please make sure you empty your accessories slot before entering your serial-number.
In-game mail from other players will be automatically deleted after 10 days.
Some presents, such as items found in quests while your inventory was full, will expire after a short time. Make sure to retrieve your presents quickly.
Presents from special events are often sent some time after maintenance ends, not immediately after the servers come up. Presents can expire before the time listed in the presents window entry.
The game constantly transfers data through 113.192.241.11/amf/gateway.php and any downloads or uploads to it that take too long will cause you to disconnect. The timeout has switched between 5 and 30 seconds, and is currently believed to be 30 seconds.
- It was 5 seconds until the 11/21 maintenance, 30 until 11/28, 5 until 12/4, and 30 following the 12/4 maintenance. Changes in the limit have greatly affected the number of disconnections players experience.
- When initially entering the game, you must transfer about 40KB within the time limit. Prior to 11/28, it was 167.17KB. The developers appear to have reduced the size of each transfer to prevent disconnections.
- Cheat Engine can be used to reduce the game's speed, tricking it into giving players more time to transfer data, which reduces the number of disconnects. This can be particularly useful at the end of a PVP match, when disconnections and freezes are likely to happen.
- If you are having trouble connecting, make sure that nothing is interfering with your access to the gateway IP.

Performance

Some users have found that the game runs better in Chrome than Firefox.
- However, other users have solved errors by using Firefox instead. Try a variety of browsers if you're having trouble playing. Reports indicate that the IE10 and Apple Flash engines may perform better than Firefox as well.
Reducing the game's graphics quality can dramatically lower CPU load.
If you're getting disconnected frequently, avoid using flash-based sites in other browser tabs or running P2P applications such as bittorrent in the background.
High server load can cause issues such as being stuck at a loading screen or getting stuck with a grayed out screen while trying to load a menu.

Errors

If you get the error pictured below while trying to open a Kyubey BOX, your inventory is full. You can have at most 50 of each type of card (weapons, clothes, accessories, skills). Sell some to make room. The numbers along the side of the Kyubey BOX screen tell you how much space you have left in each card category.
- If you still can't open the box after making sure you have space in all 4 card categories, check your presents. Open the history screen from the lobby (icon: papers with quill pen). Go to the packages tab and collect the card that was withheld due to the inventory being full. After clearing your inventory and packages, Kyubey BOXes should work again.

How to collect presents.
Server can't get status. Enable third-party cookies and restart the game.
Connection lost. Restart the game.
You were disconnected during a quest. Click the right button to resume where you left off.
This present must be retrieved before time runs out.
You can't have more than one of the same SS character. Tickets will be refunded.
Your present could not be claimed. This may be caused by not having enough inventory space (there may be multiple items in one present, and you can only have 999 tickets) or the expiration of the present.
