Summary

One of four magical girls that goes to Akanegazaki Middle School. Pure and friendly, between the four she's the one that sets the mood. I think it's more fun to have a lot of friends, and try to get along with everyone. When she was young, she couldn't see with her eyes so she couldn't go out much, and now she has a longing for the outside world.

The panorama that stretches out before them will intensely disturb and destroy their mind. Nobody ever said dreams are always enjoyable… This too is reality, in the end.

After the events of Rumors in Disguise, Arisa suggests that they go to the taiyaki shop. Matsuri gets excited, and Chisato invites Natsuki Utsuho, Aimi Eri, and Kanoko Yayoi to accompany them to the store. However, Chisato says that Arisa wanted to go to a concert of Sayuki Fumino. Haruka suggests that they split up to go to the places they want to go. Chisato agrees, suggesting that they meet in the afternoon at the taiyaki shop. Later, while walking through the streets of Kamihama, Matsuri asks Arisa about the item she carries on her back and Chisato tells her it's a fungus hair scrunchie (the ones Kanoko gave to Arisa and Chisato in Rumors in Disguise). Matsuri wonders what planet it came from, and Kanoko explains that she did it. A shocked Matsuri asks if it's safe to touch her and mentions that it's very “scrunchie”, saying that she likes it much to Arisa's surprise. Matsuri is glad for her and Chisato offers to give her her scrunchie as well. Chisato apologizes to Kanoko for giving away the hair scrunchies, but she says that she is happy to see how her accessories make others happy, saying that she is touched that her designs are not appreciated, but it seems that moment is finally over. has arrived. Kanoko offers to take Matsuri to her home so she can see more of her designs, to which Matsuri excitedly agrees. Arisa and Chisato decide to go to Sayuki's concert while Matsuri goes to Kanoko's house, so Matsuri asks Haruka what she will do, to which she says that she will go to a museum with Natsuki and Aimi. As they are on their way to Kanoko's house, Matsuri sings about taiyaki. Kanoko asks why she likes her so much and Matsuri assumes it's because she heard how good the restaurant is from Arisa, saying that she can taste it already. At that moment the two girls run into Manaka Kurumi, another magical girl friend of Kanoko. Kanoko asks what she is doing there. Manaka says that she needs one of the items designed by Kanoko and that it is an emergency. Kanoko is surprised by this, and Manaka tells the reason why. That morning she was talking to her senpai, another magical girl named Ria Ami, who claimed that as a model anything would suit her, even a prisoner outfit or any kind of fashion item. Manaka tries to leave the conversation, but Ria insists that it's true and gets sad because her kohai doesn't believe her, so she proposes to make a bet stating that anything would suit her, but Manaka doesn't think that's possible, although Ria insists that maybe none of Kanoko's weird style would fit, so Manaka says that if it does, then she'll ask Kanoko for one of her designs for Ria's horror. Back in the present, Kanoko says that it's true that her designs are "way ahead of today's times" and she doesn't think most models know how to use her designs, however, she doesn't think she has anything now and apologizes to Manaka, who feels bad about the situation. Kanoko thinks that maybe she could give her something to match Ria’s hair for her two-ponytail style. Matsuri shows Manaka Kanoko’s scrunchies and offers them to her. Kanoko explains to Manaka that she designed those hair scrunchies with a "Water in the Mouth" theme, and when Matsuri asks Kanoko if it's okay for her to give them to Manaka she says she doesn't mind. Manaka appreciates her gesture and as compensation she gives Matsuri some mushrooms, which turn out to be "ghost mushrooms" or bunapi-shimeji, which makes Kanoko happy. Matsuri is surprised by Kanoko's reaction, and she starts to talk about the awesomeness of the bunapi-shimeji mushrooms compared to the rest of mushrooms, but Manaka backs off because she is in a hurry to beat Ria at her bet. Kanoko is surprised that she hadn't finished thanking Manaka. Matsuri mentions that Kanoko's scrunchies have now turned into real mushrooms. Later Kanoko shows all her designs to Matsuri in her room, which excites Matsuri who has never seen anything like it. Later, Kanoko shows her one of her designs that she describes as "spring-summer-autumn-winter" outfit because it is supposed to be used at any time of the year. Matsuri continues to look at and complement Kanoko's designs when she comes across metal fittings, to which Kanoko explains that she teaches how to make job shop designs, Matsuri asks if Kanoko can teach her, and she agrees. Later, Matsuri notices that Kanoko is looking at the mushrooms that Manaka gave her and asks if she wants them, but Kanoko refuses and prefers to make an exchange: in exchange for the mushrooms, this Kanoko will make metal accessories of her designs for Matsuri, who agrees. At her parents' workshop, Kanoko asks Matsuri what she would like as a concept for her designs, but Matsuri has no idea what to ask for. Kanoko suggests using one of her designs, however, Matsuri explains that she was trying to choose some of the concepts from Kanoko's designs, but she can't decide because she liked all of them. Then, Matsuri receives a call from Arisa, who tells her that the taiyaki shop is closed and apologizes to Matsuri for this. Arisa says that because of this they should change their plans for that afternoon, but Matsuri says that since he's still thinking about taiyaki he'll look for a store so they can eat there. Arisa says that Matsuri doesn't know Kamihama and asks if she'll be alright. Matsuri tells Kanoko about the situation. Kanoko says that there are various stalls throughout the Kamihama City, but they are not as well-known as the ones in the shop Arisa talked about, but Matsuri says that she will find a good taiyaki shop in her trip around Kamihama. Kanoko thinks of taiyaki made locally in the city, but Matsuri says she already came up with a concept to ask Kanoko for her metal accessories: taiyaki. Kanoko thinks they strayed from the conversation, but proceeds to make taiyaki earrings for Matsuri, who adores them. Matsuri hopes those earrings will lead her to some delicious local Kamihama taiyaki, so Kanoko says they're like lucky charms then. Matsuri then tells Kanoko to go find a new taiyaki shop, and she is very excited to explore Kamihama. Matsuri and Kanoko stroll through Taiyaki shops in the Kosho district. Matsuri thinks that the Taiyaki she's tasted is delicious, but in Kanoko's words, she's looking to think “that's the taste of Kamihama, it's a day I'll remember”. Matsuri agrees and wonders what she should do, at which point she is approached by another magical girl named Ikumi Makino. Matsuri is excited to see a maid and Matsuri thanks her, saying that she wants to ask them for a favor, since she works in a nearby maid cafe and wants Matsuri to lend her her earrings for her service that day, since they are shaped of fish. Matsuri agrees and the three go to the cafe where Ikumi works, who manages to charm all her customers with her animal maid act in which Ikumi and her companions acted as animals, along with other companions of hers, one of whom acts as a cat and the other. who wears the earrings Once the act is over Kanoko mentions that it was fun while Matsuri is delighted with the place. Ikumi thanks Matsuri and Kanoko for the help, just like the maid she played as a cat. Ikumi explains that this was her classmate's first act and that they had ordered cat accessories for her but received only dog accessories. Ikumi asks if they could get more accessories like this for her partner, but Matsuri insists that she can keep them. Kanoko asks if she is sure, because they are Matsuri's lucky charms, but she thinks that she might get a good place to eat taiyaki in return and asks Ikumi for a place to eat taiyaki. The cat maid gives Matsuri a wrapped gift while Ikumi thinks about "the adjuster", but she says that she can't tell people other than magical girls, so she suggests a place in the Sankyo district. As Ikumi shows Matsuri her place, she points out that she broke her "Ikumin" persona, but she quickly denies it, regaining this persona while Matsuri is surprised at her professionalism. Matsuri and Kanoko arrive at the Taiyaki store in the Sankyo district and while waiting in line, they open the gift from the cat maid. This turns out to be a bone-shaped, dog-themed headband that the maids got at the cafe. Kanoko points out that it's a good design, but just then they hear a scream. This turns out to be from another magical girl with an air circulator in her hand, Ayaka Mariko, who asks Matsuri where she got the headband. Matsuri explains that it was a gift and when Ayaka asks if she knows where she can buy a similar one, Matsuri says that she doesn't know and that it seems the headband is expensive because of its design. Kanoko explains to Ayaka that the headband was ordered and perhaps couldn't be found in Kamihama. Matsuri asks why Ayaka liked it and Ayaka says that she would like to use her in one of her comedy acts. Ayaka explains that she originally wanted to use an air circulator she brought for her act, but she just found out that the meeting place where the “Ward Comedy Contest” is going to be held would not have electrical power to use her air circulator. Ayaka says that she had given up, until she saw Matsuri's bone headband with which she came up with an act that would guarantee her victory. Matsuri offers to give the headband to Ayaka, much to Kanoko's surprise. In return, Ayaka gives Matsuri her air circulator with the dummy she brought too, so Matsuri deduces that Ayaka's comedy act would be ventriloquism. Before they leave Kanoko and Matsuri ask about a good taiyaki place, and Ayaka mentions that she heard from her friend Shizuku Hozumi about a place where “there was taiyaki that made you faint” but she doesn't know where it is. Ayaka leaves and Matsuri is impressed by everything she gave her and how heavy it is, while Kanoko admits that she tried to stop that exchange without success. The girls can finally order and when they eat, they think it's the best taiyaki they've ever had, but it still doesn't give them that feeling of a great visit memory. At that moment, Kanoko sees two of her friends, Hinano Miyako and Emiri Kisaki, walking past her. Kanoko calls out to them, introducing Matsuri to Hinano and Emiri. Hinano notices that they have a lot of electrical equipment charging alongside them, but Emiri correctly deduces that it all stemmed from an exchange that started with Manaka trying to humiliate Ria with one of Kanoko's designs and Manaka giving her the air circulator in exchange, though Matsuri says there were more exchanges with other people involved. Hinano thinks that meeting Matsuri with that team was fate, while Emiri says that they "got the right bone". Hinano explains that they needed an air circulator for their science class at Minaminagi Academy the next day, but they couldn't find one at Emiri's house or hers. Matsuri immediately offers to give the air circulator to Hinano and Emiri, as she cannot ignore someone who needs her help. Hinano agrees, though she rejects Ayaka's comedy material, and gives her an anti-grease detergent she made herself. Before Emiri and Hinano leave, Kanoko asks them for a place to eat taiyaki. The girls tell them that they met other magical girls who were asking for a place, and they tell them about the place and leave, with Emiri regretting not asking for the comedy act as well while Hinano rejects the idea. Matsuri is happy and points out that now they can go to the next place, but Kanoko questions why Matsuri gets so easily excited by everything. Matsuri asks if it's weird, but Kanoko says it's not and that it's interesting. Matsuri says that she is only fulfilling her dream of going to new places and seeing different things that she had not seen or tried before, and even meeting new people. Kanoko deduces that she has to do with Matsuri's wish, but she tells her not exactly. Matsuri tells Kanoko that she was born blind, and that when Kyubey appeared in front of her asking her to make a contract for her, she immediately agreed, asking for the ability to see. Kanoko apologizes to Matsuri for making her remember the past, but Matsuri tells her not to worry about her because even though she couldn't see she had a family that loved her, she had a good life and was never unhappy. Matsuri reveals that she made her wish to gain independence because she didn't want to depend on others forever. Kanoko deduces that then Matsuri's dream is to use the sight that Kyubey gave her to see new places, and Matsuri reveals that it was when he got his sight that he realized that this was his dream, because he wanted to see everything: the people who she loved, the sun, the ocean, and knowing other things that she could never quite know for much of her life. Kanoko gets excited and says that she will then take her to see the most unusual places in Kamihama, so she decides that she will take Matsuri to the Adjuster, Mitama Yakumo. Matsuri thinks that Kamihama really is an amazing place with many places waiting for her. When they arrive at Mitama's place, Matsuri wonders about the strange name of the restaurant, thinking "Adjuster's place", but Kanoko explains that it is not a taiyaki shop. Kanoko explains that Mitama is a magical girl who uses her power to strengthen other magical girls for seeds of suffering. Matsuri asks why she then takes her to Mitama, and Kanoko says that due to Ayaka and Hinano's words she deduced that they were talking about Mitama, believing that they might learn something new from Mitama's hand. Matsuri understands that perhaps because she caters to many magical girls, Mitama must have valuable information, but she wonders if it was something she did because of a taiyaki poster in her place. The girls enter the place and smell something, Mitama appears and greets Kanoko, also asking for Matsuri, who introduces herself saying that she is a magical girl from Hozuki City. Mitama is happy to meet her, but she apologizes that she can't adjust for them right now, as she is making taiyaki. The two girls get excited about this, which makes Mitama happy, because she has never seen anyone so excited about her food. In the kitchen, Mitama shows that she just needs to cook the taiyaki and it will be ready soon. Mitama mentions that she should wash the dishes, but she notices that she doesn't have soap. Matsuri offers Hinano's detergent to Mitama, who she excitedly accepts saying that in return she will give all the taiyaki she wants to Matsuri. At that moment, they all smell burning and realize that Mitama's taiyaki has caught on fire. Mitama says that he must have "adjusted" the temperature wrong and Matsuri asks her how is that possible and if it wasn't her job to "adjust" things. When the girls manage to put out the fire, they realize that Mitama's taiyaki has been scorched. Mitama laments, as he thinks that his food again could cause food poisoning. Mitama says that it's better not to eat it, which makes Matsuri sad, but she quickly changes her mind and suggests they clean up the place. Mitama proceeds to remove some taiyaki posters that she had hanging near her, and which were also burned, when Matsuri and Kanoko realize that they promote the limited sale of special taiyaki. Mitama looks for an unburned poster and in the Matsuri he sees that it is the promotion of a limited taiyaki shop. Mitama says that they can keep it, as there is a ticket to the restaurant that comes with the poster, and they can get free taiyaki. Mitama wants to give them to her in exchange for the detergent they gave her and Matsuri agrees, although Matsuri doesn't understand what she means by “taiyaki fishing”. Matsuri and Kanoko head to the shores of Kamihama, to a ravine where the restaurant "Taiyaki Shop Under the Cliff" is located. Kanoko is surprised by the place, but Matsuri deduces that they must be in the right place, since there are more people there. The waitress, who turns out to be another friend of Kanoko's, Himika Mao, greets them. Kanoko introduces Matsuri and Himika, saying that even though she doesn't own it, she was the one who pitched the idea to the owner of the place. It turns out that a week ago the taiyaki shop in her neighborhood, in the Daito Ward, had a water leak. The owner hired a contractor to fix it. Matsuri deduces that if the store cannot be opened all the ingredients will go to waste. Himika agrees with her and says that selling the ingredients was thought of, but she came up with the idea of temporarily moving the restaurant to that area of the cliff because business is all about new ideas, hers being to capture the fish from on the coast of the cliff to prepare them. Matsuri sees two boys fishing down the cliff and says it looks fun. Himika explains that they created a small lake near the barring where there are various taiyaki and that they can try to fish three times for free because of their ticket. Kanoko says that she thought they would throw them into the sea, but Himika laughs saying that is not the case, and that what they caught are plastic bags with taiyaki inside the small lake they made. A small bag holds 1 taiyaki, a medium bag holds 3 taiyaki, and large bags hold 10 taiyaki. Matsuri asks if it's alright, because the big bag would be the easiest to catch because of its size, but Himika explains that the catching area is short, so it's more difficult and that balanced things out more. Matsuri decides that she will catch the biggest bag. For their part, Arisa and Chisato return from Sayuki's concert in the Mizuna district and decide to call Matsuri, who tells them that she is on a nearby cliff, but before he can tell more, a frightened Arisa and Chisato run to where Matsuri is. Once there, they both scold Matsuri, but she explains the situation and that there is a taiyaki restaurant there. Haruka, Natsuki, and Aimi later appear there as well, explaining the theme of the restaurant. They all eat the taiyaki and enjoy the view, although Haruka seems sad, Matsuri asks what's wrong. Haruka quickly changes her expression and says that the food is delicious. Kanoko laments that she couldn't find the perfect taiyaki for Matsuri, but she says that it's not true because the view of that cliff with a sunset made it perfect. Matsuri remembers that the day she made her contract there was also such a beautiful sunset, the first sunset she had ever seen. However, she begins to wonder if she was alone that day, as she has the feeling that someone was with her (Kagari), but she does not give more importance to that strange feeling. Kanoko asks Matsuri what's going on and she says that she wants to continue fulfilling her dream of traveling to many places and meeting more people. Matsuri thinks that despite the world's pain and sad things, there are also beautiful things that she wants to keep seeing and she thanks Kanoko. Matsuri thinks that she will never forget that day because she has become a precious memory of hers.

• Matsuri's first name is spelt with the kanji for "jasmine", a type of flower. "Matsuri" can also mean a festival or celebration.

• The name of her Doppel is possibly a reference to Mori Ougai's story The Dancing Girl, where the female protagonist is named Elise. In it, the male protagonist falls for Elise, a German dancer, but ultimately leaves her.
• The small doll-like figures (likely Familiars) that accompany Matsuri's Doppel are designed after teru teru bōzu dolls, which are believed to bring good weather and stop or prevent rainy days.
