Summary

A magical girl who is trying to create a world without witchification. She began writing stories in order to meet her desire for self-approval and after posting it on the internet she came to be called a genius writer. But until now no one has been able to get in touch with her. Her dream is to write a story that embodies the world.

Doppel Description

The Doppel of last testament. Its form is a deathwatch beetle. The master of this emotion offers up every remaining bit of her life. This Doppel can devour stories with the insect heads on both of its hands, then physically manifest said stories in this world. The absolutely ridiculous range of this power makes it a Doppel to truly be feared. The source of this Doppel’s power is its master’s already-short lifespan, and its power is said to grow stronger as its master’s lifespan dwindles. However, since all of its power is directed towards the story-manifesting ability, it lacks direct offensive capabilities, and could hardly last a second if attacked by a witch.

In-game

Nemu initially only appeared in Iroha's flashbacks, where she, Ui Tamaki and Touka Satomi are seen staying in the hospital. She seems to be friends with both of them, however she fights with Touka a lot, making up shortly after. Nemu reappears in Chapter 7, confirming her status as one of the Magius. In Chapter 7.17, it's revealed that it is Nemu who has created the Rumors invading Kamihama City at the cost of part of her lifeforce.

Etymology

• The character of her last name means "holly" (柊)
• Her first name is homophonous with the word for 'to sleep'. This could tie in to the strain that goes with creating rumors, which causes sleep.

Trivia

• Her Doppel bears a less striking, but still a certain resemblance to Iroha's Doppel Giovanna, much like Touka's.
• Nemu is the fourth magical girl to have her name in her Witch name (Pennen Nenemu), followed by Tsuruno (Yuhong), Homura (Homulilly) and Ren (Renata).
• Her Doppel name is also a reference to a work of Kenji Miyazawa, titled Biography of Pennen Nenemu. It's about a world leader who has trouble fulfilling the duty of his position, but in the end he will fall asleep with a feeling of pride. This can refer to Nemu being one of the Magius leaders. It also slightly looks like an owl, which have been wisdom symbols ever since Pallas Athena.
  • According to the translation of this Japanese Wikipedia page, Biography of Pennen Nenemu was the predecessor to the more well known novel The Life of Budori Gusuko
  • Miyazawa also wrote Night on the Galactic Railroad, which Iroha, Mifuyu's and Yachiyo's doppels take their names from. He also wrote the works where Kuro's, Touka's and Kanagi's witch forms take their names from. Shitori Egumo is as well a reference to one of his works.
• In Nemu's transformation scene, she writes "Devil's Advocate" in the air with her finger.
