Quitterie

Quitterie is a new witch that appears in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable. She and her minons bear a striking resemblance to Kyubey. It is the Witch of the Needle.

It is not part of the regular gameplay routes. It is only available in the Oblivious barrier (忘却の結界), the last of five bonus dungeons provided with the game, unlocked by clearing Homura's route.

針の魔女。その性質は敬愛。宇宙のために全てを捨てて戦った魔法少女の成れの果て。彼女はまだ自分が宇宙を救うと信じている。	Witch of needles, with a respectful nature. She is the remains of a magical girl who gave up everything to fight for the universe. She believes that she is saving the universe even now.
針の魔女の使い魔。その役割は愛嬌。誰もが愛でざるを得ない魔女お手製の着ぐるみマスコット。あまりの可愛さを持つその容姿に刃を向けられるはずもない。	The needle witch's familiars, whose duty is to be charming. The witch's handcrafted costume mascots that people can't help but love. They're so excessively adorable that it's impossible to point a blade at them.

Trivia

• Quitterie is a feminine French name and it means "quiet".
• Quitterie is a rare French name, most likely derived from the Latin 'quietus', meaning "quiet, calm." Some also link the name to the Greek 'Κύθηρα', "Kythira", a Greek island which was consecrated to the ancient goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite.

Speculation

• Saint Quiteria was a 5th century virgin martyr and saint. Nothing is certain about Quiteria except her name and her cult. Her name is a title that the Phoenicians gave to the goddess Astarte: Kythere, Kyteria, or Kuteria, which means "the red one.", which some take to mean that she might be a fictional saint. She may also have been named after the pagan goddess, or just as likely, after one of the names of Aphrodite, "Cytherea", after the island where the goddess was allegedly born.
  • When Quiteria was beheaded, her falling head hit the ground and a water fountain sprung up from the spot. Coincidentally, a bishop named Faust made a sermon that day with a reference to the miracle that converted the entire city area into Christianity.
• Given to the description, it is speculated that Quitterie was a tailor.
  • One likely possibility is that Quitterie was a cosplay otaku and she used to create her own costumes.
    • Fans speculate that Quitterie was the kind of girl who believed in the anime/manga versions of magical girls, and made her own costumes before meeting Kyubey. Once she contracted, she thought of Kyubey as a traditional magical girl mascot and that she was an ally of justice, just like on TV.
  • Another possibility is that she probably helped the school theater club with custom designs as she is wearing a Kyubey disguise/costume.
• It is speculated that the reason that she is wearing a Kyubey costume is that perhaps she admired Kyubey's goal to save the universe.
