Quitterie (QUITTERIE) is a new witch that appears in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable. She and her familiars bear a striking resemblance to Kyubey. It is not part of the regular gameplay routes. It is only available in the Oblivious barrier (忘却の結界), the last of five bonus dungeons provided with the game, unlocked by clearing Homura's route.

Observations

  • A humanoid silhouette appears in front of her while she charges up before certain attacks. This may be Quitterie's original magical girl form.
  • Upon her death, the Witch will fall over backwards. The Kyubey head will fall off, and there is a glimpse of the Witch's real head.

Trivia

  • Quitterie is a rare feminine French name, most likely derived from the Latin 'quietus', meaning "quiet, calm."
  • Some also link the name to the Greek 'Κύθηρα', "Kythira", a Greek island which was consecrated to the ancient goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite.
  • Saint Quiteria was a 5th century virgin martyr and saint. Nothing is certain about Quiteria except her name and her cult. Her name is a title that the Phoenicians gave to the goddess Astarte: Kythere, Kyteria, or Kuteria, which means "the red one.", which some take to mean that she might be a fictional saint.
    • When Quiteria was beheaded, her falling head hit the ground and a water fountain sprung up from the spot. Coincidentally, a bishop named Faust made a sermon that day with a reference to the miracle that converted the entire city area into Christianity.
  • Her real form bares a resemblance to and may be based on the Pincushion Man from the 1935 animated short film Balloon Land.
