Shin (SHIN) is a witch from Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record.
The witch of babysitting. Her nature is impoverishment. A witch who continually searches for a baby that she dropped somewhere. Upon seeing a human, no matter who or what age they are, she extends her baby carrier’s straps to try and catch them. Even if she succeeds in capturing one, however, the way she tightly binds them to prevent them from falling again will likely suffocate them. Incidentally, this still young-minded witch isn’t babysitting because she wants to; quite the opposite, in fact. She doesn’t even like babies at all. She casts her gaze down in contempt of those who lead privileged lives, and curses herself in perpetuity.
Minions of the witch of babysitting. Their role is to kick hopscotch stones. These foul-natured minions use their heads to knock stones over, then cackle at the sight of the witch as she runs over to tend to the stones, which she mistakenly believes are babies. Additionally, whenever the witch captures new humans to fill the role of babies, the minions will immediately swarm them and suck them dry of blood. As such, the witch sees these minions as nothing more than awful pests. No matter how much she loathes them, the witch always finds these minions swarming around her before she even knows it.
In Magia Record
- Shin could be named after the titular character of the manga Crayon Shin-chan, a five-year-old boy.
- Kotori is named after "kotori" (子取り or 子捕り), also known as "catch-the-child", a Japanese children's game.
- It is a homophone with the word "kotori" (小鳥), meaning "small bird", which it is designed after.
- Coincidentally, Kotori Nanaya is a character in the light novel series Magical Girl Raising Project.
