Layout and stuff

Continued from Speculah talk:Human Soul and Magic. I will probably make a template out of these annotations so that we can tag the other wishes easily whenever they appear in canon. Regarding the symbols in the table of contents, I don't know what we can do about it ... Is it a way to manually set the ToC entry, like in LaTeX? Anyway, that doesn't look too annoying to me (you can see in one instant which wishes are confirmed and which aren't).
Last change I plan is to add a big spoiler alert on top of the page, and remove the small spoiler tags from the text (after all, just showing which wishes have been granted is spoilerish by itself).

On second thought, I think I'm gonna do that tomorrow (unless someone else does it in the meantime); too tired right now. --Homerun-chan 23:48, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Homura's Wish

Should it be noted that the "if you do, you'll lose everything" wish theory more or less came about as a side effect of her actual wish? She DID become the cool, smart, confident, athletic, powerful girl admired by everyone she wanted to be (I don't think it's a stretch to say that TL1 Homura felt embarrassed about her shortcomings and wanted to be cooler on some level), it just came about as a consequence of horrible circumstances forcing Homura to reforge herself.71.232.114.229 23:07, 1 April 2011 (UTC)Anon

All those things are pretty much standard package for every magical girl. Their bodies are enhanced, they can use magic to heal their imperfections and bolster their strengths. Well, even so, it has nothing to do with why Homura said that. When Madoka makes a wish, she inevitably ends up dead or as a witch. Mami inevitably seems to die. Sayaka inevitably loses her friends and then turns into a witch. Kyouko actively lost everything she cared about because of her wish. Homura lost her entire first life because of her wish, and then lost time and time again all of her friends. She has all the reason in the world to say that contracting with Kyubey makes you lose in the end.

Madoka's timeline 4 wish

Why is the "Timeline 4 - I want the power to protect Homura-chan" theory marked as debunked? Episode 12 clarifies everything about the series timeline, but nothing about timelines 1-4. --KFYatek 15:42, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Oops, that was me. I confused 4 and 5. I'll fix it when I get back to my computer. 76.91.75.78 16:47, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Madoka's wish from Timeline 1: I want to save that cat!

I know Gen said that the cat was a red herring and that may be true during the anime series but it is actually relevant on the Drama CD. I am not sure how accurate this information is since I lifted it from 4chan:

Drama CD synopses

Set during episode 10

Homura is released from the hospital. She's all emo because she thinks she has been a burden to other people for all her life.

Homura transfers to Mitakihara. She meets a black cat, on a way and takes a liking to it.

Homura's first day of school consist mostly of her failing every subject and her listening to people badmouth her. "You'd think a bedridden person would have time to read books? ect ect.."

next she fails her PE session.. she hears more people badmouthing her "being a hospital discharge is sure nice.. you have have an excuse to slack away during PE"

Homura hears this and decides to push her frail body pass its limit.

Madoka sees this and decides to give her a helping hand. She places an enhancement spell on Homura that helps her pass a running jumping test. But when Homura tries to do a second jump, her legs won't stop running and she is carried away by her feet.

Madoka telepath instant messages Mami to help her dispel the enhancement, which she does. Homura stops running but she falls unconscious because she overexerted herself. When Homura wakes up, Madoka tries to explain things, but isn't sure how to. Homura blames herself and goes emo again.

Witch Isabel senses this and starts whispering thoughts of suicide into Homura's head. While walking home, Homura gets depressed enough to wonder into Isabel's barrier as per episode 10

Madoka and Mami save Homura from Isabel, and they brief her on things. Madoka admits that the PE accident was her fault and apologizes for that. Homura wonder if she should become a magical girl too. Madoka seems excited, but Mami tells her that you should never become a magical girl on whim. Being a magical girl is a calling and not an escape.

Madoka walks Homura home. They meet the black cat Homura met earlier. Madoka says that Mami is right in her reasoning, but the truth is, Madoka became a magical girl to save this black cat from being hit by a car. She's a text book example of someone who became a magical girl on whim, so she asks Homura to keep it a secret from Mami. Homura however, says that kindness is cool.

Madoka tells Homura that should she ever become a magical girl, Homura must think about wish seriously and not decided it on whim. Homura promises Madoka.

The conversation then turns more morbid. Madoka say that she wanted to adopt this black cat, but apparently it likes being independent. Still, if something were to happen to her, she would like Homura to take care of the cat. Homura panics. Madoka says that she's not planning on dying soon or anything.. it's just that battles with witches have an unpredictable element to them and no one really knows what can happen inside a witch barrier. Madoka says she's sorry for making Homura worry about her, but she tells her one last advice. During a storm, do not under any circumstances leave your house. Madoka then excuses herself because she has to prepare for Walpurgis Night

Time passes and suddenly Madoka is absent from class. At home Homura wonders what this Walpurgis Night Mami was talking about is and she googles it. She learns that it refers to a Witch festival and deduces that it's not a good thing in context of magical girls. She also notices that it is storming outside and remembers Madoka's warning. Homura goes out anyway.

On her way she runs into the black cat earlier who helps her lead Homura towards Madoka.

And the rest we know...

At that night Homura became a magical girl, but she still did not know the true meaning of it until much later.

End of Drama CD 1 --Mutopis 05:03, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

I knew it, Homu Homu is one of us. Come now, fess up, who are you? Prima 07:59, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
The cat's name is Amy, btw --Mutopis 08:36, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
This blog pretty much says the same thing --Mutopis 20:07, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
There could be a symbolic meaning to the black cat in the drama CD. Madoka uses her wish to save the black cat; Homura clearly identifies with it and has a connection to it (did Madoka implied that Homura is similar to the black cat?). Madoka's first real bonding moment is formed from their shared interests in cats. The same cat led Homura to save Madoka from Walpurgis Night. It could be implied Homura is the embodiment of the black cat (let's not forget the whole "meganeko" sneers by her classmates...even if it's not very relevant). And Madoka sacrificing her soul (unknowingly) for a cat can be seen as a symbol of what she is, and has always been, destined to sacrifice herself for others. --Mutopis 20:18, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
So... you're saying instead of being a meganekko, Homura is really a mega-neko? Prima 20:51, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
A Mega-Neko is fine too --Mutopis 21:34, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

The cat is in fact a red herring as part of the trolling OP made by SHAFT and was used in the drama CD simply because it had already been created, not because it was originally part of Gen's vision. This was translated a month ago from a magazine interview, posted here (http://green-oval.net/cgi-board.pl/a/thread/47559176#p47564021).

UG - When the storyboard of the OP was done everyone just burst out laughing, saying "Is it for real?" (lol) I admit that that was a deceiving video, but somehow only I got the blame which I just can't accept (lol) That was made by SHAFT!! I didn't know a thing! I .... the completed storyboard (chopped off at the end so not sure what he wanted to say here Takayama - Woah, I thought the black cat might be somehow related, no relationship you mean? UG - No (lol) Takayama - So it is just a wandering cat (lol) UG - On the other hand, it will show up in the Drama CD that was made later as an extra to the BD/DVD special package. Since it had already been created, they asked me to use it (lol)

For a Red Herring UG used the cat very nicely for the Drama CD. I guess we have to thank SHAFT for that --Mutopis 21:27, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
More of a MacGuffin than a red-herring. Prima 21:38, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
It's both if you remember that magazine cover that had Homura and the cat next to each other. Oh, well -- I'm glad the cat was used after all! Momoism 22:01, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Mami's Wish

I made a few changes to Mami's wish. --Mutopis 03:11, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

  • I thought it was "tie to life" as in her own life, not others. --Universalperson 13:09, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
    • It probably is,but someone needs to review the translation in the magazine to make sure we can change that. --Mutopis 19:42, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
      • Made the needed changes, until we get more information... --Mutopis 20:25, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

I need help with the wish template, I want it to read "The source of this information is from a magazine interview, but it contains insufficient information to make an accurate presentation." or something similar, since we are getting a lot of information from magazine interviews, but some of them are not concrete enough to get an accurate picture of it. --Mutopis 04:20, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

It should work now. --Knon 05:31, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. --Mutopis 06:27, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
