Tsubasa Hanekawa is a character from the Monogatari franchise, originally a light novel series by Nisio Isin. The series received an anime by Studio Shaft that was directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, giving it a tangential connection to the Madoka Magica franchise.

The Monogatari series first crossed over with Madoka Magica as part of the "Madogatari" event. The crossover was limited to official merchandise and artwork.

In 2018, Tsubasa was made into a playable character in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record, as part of a Madogatari event.

Summary

The memorial magical girl. One of the 'what if' forms... of the heroines of the Monogatari series if they became magical girls. She lost her memories when she burnt something with a flame bottle, but her top-notch brain in her grade is constantly storing new memories. Her wish was "I want to forget everything".

Doppel Description

The Doppel of anxiety. Its form is two shadows. The master of this emotion channeled her enormous suffering into a two-bodied Doppel that serves as her own shadow. One shadow, the hindering cat, sucks away the strength of those it touches, while the other, the harsh tiger, burns everything to ash with its flames of jealousy. The two shadows are manifestations of its master’s negative emotions, which she cut off in her attempt to live a perfectly correct and upright life, and are here because its master needs them. Each time she summons the two shadows, she loses another two of her precious feelings, but she is unlikely to feel any regret over that.

Side Story

Tsubasa has no side story. The player is simply presented with battles and no story scenes inbetween.

Abilities

Every time she burns something, she loses her memories. If she loses all her memories she'll become a witch; for this reason she continuously adds new feelings for the long run. The evils of cram school seem to be showing. The repulsive amount of heat of this magical girl burning up the rest of the world is desirable from the viewpoint of Incubators.

Etymology

• The characters of her last name mean "羽" (feather) and "川" (river) respectively.
• The character of her first name means "翼" (wing).

Trivia

• The kanji of her witch form is a fake kanji, 犭苛. It apparently uses the 犭from 猫 (cat) and the 苛 from 苛虎 (rash tiger).
• Tsubasa's doppel is based off of two Oddities from her home series, Bakemonogatari. The "hindering cat" is based off of the sawarineko and the "harsh tiger" is a reference to Kako.
• In Magia Record, Tsubasa is event limited and must be rolled in the gacha.
