Magic & Abilities

Magic in the Magica Universe are forces created from fluctuation of emotion, unbounded by the First Law of Thermodynamic. When QB's scientifically-advanced civilization discovered Magic, they realized Magic's capacity to create new energy can postpone maximum Entropy and delay the heat death of the Universe. However, QB's civilization are incapable of emotions, thus they scoured the Universe for species with the most emotional potential. QB found his answer in the Earth's human females, especially those still developing secondary sex characteristics. Mahou Shoujo and Witches, thus the settings of the story, are the result of QB's quest to harvest this energy.

All Mahou Shoujo exhibits superhuman strength, agility, regeneration.

Witch Detection

Soul gems glow when there are witches nearby, or if there have been witches nearby recently. From Episode 1, when Mami tells Homura that she can still chase after the witch, and from Episode 6, when Sayaka tries to find the trail of the familiar Anja, witches seem to leave behind some sort of trail of energy which magical girls can detect and follow. From episode 9, when Kyouko assures Madoka that the witch she's chasing has the same energy signature, it can be surmised that each witch has a different trail, possibly similar to a fingerprint or other identifier. In essence, every witch may be unique. It is unclear whether a witch's familiar has the same energy signature as the original witch, and it is unclear whether soul gems can also detect victims of a witches' kiss. I'm thinking that each MG has an offensive, defensive, and supplementary power. only the supplementary power is affected by the wish.

Here's how I see the breakdown: Mami: -offensive: rifles/muskets; defensive: the ribbons -supplementary: magical longevity (based on her wish to live)

Sayaka: -Offensive: swords; defensive: unknown (the main prob with the theory) -Supplementary: incredible regen

Homura: -Offensive: hammerspace; defensive: shield (seen in the ep1 fight) -Supplementary:time manipulation (based on wish to redo her meeting until able to protect Madoka)

Kyoko: -Offensive: jointed spear; defensive: barrier -Supplementary: ability to manipulate decisions (based on her wish to make people believe/follow her father)

Madoka: -Offensive: bow and arrow; defensive: not known (not much screen time) -Supplementary: unknown (because wish unknown) Mami Main: Able to summon unlimited no. of magical muskets Secondary: Binding ribbons, Protective Barrier, Reinforcement Special(?): Reduced soul gem corruption when using magic Finisher: Tiro Finale

Kyouko Main: Able to use multi-section spear in a wide arc like a whip Secondary: Barriers, Reinforcement Special(?): Mind influence Finisher: Not named, but requires the breaking of her soul gem to unleash a devastating explosion. Takes the form of a giant spear mimicking a scorpion's tail.

Sayaka Main: Super speed, able to summon sabres Secondary: None Special(?): Super regeneration Finisher: None, but arguably her so-called"Final Attack" on Elly where she flings her sabre at the witch at extreme speeds and impaling it.

Homura Main: None, relies on firearms but seen to be throwing purple lasers in episode 1 Secondary: None Special(?): Time manipulation Finisher: Not used yet

Madoka Main: Uses a magic bow that shoots pink bolts of magical energy Secondary: None, Not shown Special(?): Varies with each timeline, but the greater her despair the greater her powers become. At best, her powers can rewrite the laws of reality. Finisher: Not named, but looks like a super charged bolt of energy.
