Yukihiro Miyamoto (宮本 幸裕 Miyamoto Yukihiro), born November 21, 1977 in Fukuoka, Japan, is a Japanese animation director currently working at Studio Shaft and the series director for Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica.

Biography

Miyamoto first started working as an assistant director, then an episode director at Vega Entertainment. He left Vega Entertainment in 2006 and was invited by Shin Onuma to work on Negima!? with Shaft. His first work as director was Zoku Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei in 2008.

Miyamoto met Gekidan Inu Curry in vocational school where they were in the same class. He introduced them to Akiyuki Shinbo to animate the Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei opening.

Madoka Magica

They were slow to decide on the timing of the series as they were working on Arakawa Under The Bridge and wanted to follow it with Denpa Onna, so they couldn't fit Madoka into their schedule. It wasn't really brought up until the last moment when it was slapped on the table. Miyamoto was given the rough version of the work and told to "Make atmosphere." When he received the script for Madoka he read it quickly and finished it in one go. He says he cried when he finished reading it and thought that he really wants to animate this as his next work.

As a series director, his work is similar to series composition in dealing with the content itself and making decisions regarding cuts and how the scenes should be. He is in charge of checking if things are okay as well as listening and following Shinbo's directions. Each and every cut's position was decided by Miyamoto at one point.
