Appearance

Kuroe has purple eyes and black hair. Other than that, Kuroe's design can be seen as an inverse of the design of Iroha Tamaki. While Iroha's coat is white with pink trim, Kuroe's coat is black with light gray trim surrounded by a black border that is studded with light gray gems. On her hood, chest and the border of her coat, she wears purple ribbons, the ones on her chest clasping her coat closed. Her coat runs down her arms, implying her timid personality and overall anxiety and close-mindedness. Under her coat, Kuroe wears a short black top with white trim that cuts off over the stomach and opens in the middle, and that open stays throughout the whole top. It rises up to her neck as a collar. Additionally, below her coat, it is seen that her top cuts off before her arms.

Moving on to the lower half of her design, her skirt has two loops that circle her body to connect at the back. Right below that, there is a purple frill with a black border and, below that, another larger, pink frill. Both layers are semi-transparent. Below her skirt, her soul gem is located on a silver circlet on her thigh. Lastly, Kuroe wears thigh-high semi-translucent pink socks. These socks cut out over the foot, however, with her feet being uncovered by shoes but instead partially covered by a pink strap and a black cover over her toes.

Sequence of Events

  • Sometime before the anime, Kuroe contracts with Kyubey and becomes a Magical Girl. Also before the anime, she meets Iroha Tamaki. Kuroe also breaks up with the boy she wished to be with before the start of the anime.
  • In the first season, Kuroe fights alongside Iroha Tamaki when they fight Box Wood in order to rescue a cat. On the second day, Kuroe goes to Kamihama with Iroha. She doesn't appear afterwards until a brief cut in the last episode. Iroha calls her several times in episode 2, but is not answered.
    • This cat could be a reference to Amy.
  • Kuroe joins Wings of Magius as a black feather. In episode 15, she got a task from Nemu Hiiragi to find the rumour of the eternal sakura and to protect Iroha.
  • Kuroe 'connects' with Yachiyo in episode 16. That makes Yachiyo's spear's shape slightly changed.
  • Kuroe can build walls. This might be her ability.
    • In episode 17, she builds a wall so Iroha and Rena can fixate the doppel of Kaede onto it.
    • In episode 18, she builds a wall to give Iroha some time to exit.
  • Kuroe shows her transformation sequence and doppel form in episode 18.
    • Kuroe's doppel form has some similarity to Akemi Homura's transformation in episode 12 of Madoka Magica.
  • In episodes 19 and 20, her doppel turns into a form of a magical girl and reminds her not to forget about it.
  • Kuroe becomes a witch in episode 24.
    • After becoming a magical girl, she is constantly aware of her weakness. She once defended a Magical Girl in a white robe. When that girl requested a grief seed, Kuroe told her she had none to give. She never saw that girl again and she looks back on that day with regret.
      • This girl is holding a white cat, and may reference the cat Iroha and Kuroe rescued in episode 1.

Etymology

  • The character 黒 in her name means "black", which could reference her dark color scheme.
  • The character 江 in her name means "inlet" or "bay".

Trivia

  • Her design and coloration could be seen as an inverse of Iroha Tamaki's design.
  • She was added to the Magia Record game to celebrate the final season of the anime. (See also: Kuroe (Game))
