Doppel Description

RENARD (Renard)

The Doppel of cowardice.
Its form is arms of iron.
The master of this emotion fears solitude. After being one-sidedly beaten down by those around her, she was left in a world of helpless isolation. There was nothing to do but sit there in a state of melancholy. The only way to escape was to take the opposing position– to obtain enough strength to hit back anything the world could throw at her. This Doppel is undoubtedly a manifestation of that strength, but atop its hands sits its master’s deeply-held fear of reverting to her previous solitude.

Side Story

Arisa Narumi's Side Story

Arisa narrates her past. A victim of bullying, her wish was “I want to become stronger! I want to stand up to all of them!” However, she found she was still alone until Chisato Shion held her hand out to her. In the present day, Chisato lectures Arisa about her attitude towards some high school students while they were on the train. Arisa says they blew up at her, but Chisato says it's because she bumped into them and didn't apologize.

Chisato, a member of her school's disciplinary committee, says that when they walk around Kamihama City in their school uniforms they represent Akanekezaki Middle School, and so need to be on their best behavior. Arisa endures Chisato's lecture. Suddenly they notice Momoko Togame and Rena Minami arguing. Momoko is shown to be scolding Rena for bumping into someone. Chisato guesses it's a fad. Rena says she was going to apologize, but the other person was getting "huffy" at her. Kaede Akino tells Rena she shouldn't sink down to someone else's level.

Arisa wonders if she's exactly like Rena, finding the conversation hits too close to home. When Rena says that she can't let herself be a target, Arisa realizes Rena is just like her. At this point Rena notices Arisa staring. Kaede says they should head to the live show, and the trio leaves. Chisato compares the trio to her friends, telling Arisa she cares for her friends more than anyone. Chisato says Arisa would wait for her no matter how slow she is, prompting Arisa to say she's not that nice. Chisato says Arisa is dishonest. Arisa admits that Chisato saved her, and is annoyed she was made to think about the past.

A flashback retells part of Arisa's backstory, first detailed in Suzune Magica. After becoming a magical girl, Arisa used her powers to get back at her bullies. At this point she's confronted by Chisato, saying she can't ignore Arisa's bad behavior. Arisa and Chisato, as magical girls, fight, with Chisato being the victor. Chisato tells Arisa that no matter how strong she is, she can't do anything alone, and invites Arisa to fight with other magical girls. Arisa says she's not good with people, but Chisato says it's not too late.

In the present, Chisato shows Arisa flyers about a live show from Sayuki Fumino. Arisa claims she heard one of Sayuki's songs before and really liked it. She tells Chisato they have to head to the show. The girls reach the show's location just as Sayuki sings her final song in the show. Fortunately, it turns out to be the song Arisa likes: "Turn Table ☆ Innocence". The audience calls for Sayuki to cut them up. Momoko, Rena and Kaede are also cheering in the crowd. As Sayuki sings, Chisato notices Arisa is crying. After the song ends, Chisato says the song suited Arisa.

As it turns out, the event will continue with a quiz given to the audience. Rena hopes to win some "Sayu-Sayu" merch. Chisato says the show's over, but Arisa wants to stay. The prize for the quiz turns out to be a sword sheath signed by Sayuki. The first question turns out to be a game of rock-paper-scissors against Sayuki, with the losers ejected from the competition. Chisato, Momoko, and Kaede are eliminated. Arisa notices Rena is among the remaining contestants.

The questions begin as general trivia questions, and Arisa correctly answers them before the announcer can finish asking the question. Arisa claims she has good intuition. When the quiz is halfway over, only Arisa and Rena remain. The next set of questions is about Sayuki, and Rena is now the one who answers before the announcer can finish asking the question. However, Arisa ends up answering some questions correctly anyway.

At the end of the quiz, the girls get a tie score. The judges decide that both girls win, offer a second prize from Sayuki. Both Arisa and Rena cheer. Chisato and Kaede say the other two girls seem like they're becoming friends. Arisa and Rena deny it. Afterward, Arisa and Chisato decides to go look at picture books, which is the reason they came to Kamihama in the first place. Chisato says Arisa has changed. Arisa says they'll stay together, but then lashes out at someone again.
