History
Quitterie makes her first and only appearance in Madoka Magica Portable. She doesn't make an appearance in the main game and only appears as a boss in the Oblivious barrier on floor 49. Her familiars can appear in any Mysterious Witch's barrier. She wears a costume during her fight that resembles Kyubey and her familiars resemble plush toys of Kyubey too. Her barrier is a simple grassy field and she doesn't drop a Grief Seed.
Observations
- Quitteries jacket has a galaxy like design, along with her Kyuubey Head, this could theme Kyubeys goal of saving the universe
- A humanoid silhouette appears in front of her while she charges up before certain attacks. This may be Quitterie's original magical girl form.
- Quitterie is a rare feminine French name, most likely derived from the Latin 'quietus', meaning "quiet, calm."
- Some also link the name to the Greek 'Κύθηρα', "Kythira", a Greek island which was consecrated to the ancient goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite
- Saint Quiteria was a 5th century virgin martyr and saint. Nothing is certain about Quiteria except her name and her cult. Her name is a title that the Phoenicians gave to the goddess Astarte: Kythere, Kyteria, or Kuteria, which means "the red one.", which some take to mean that she might be a fictional saint
- When Quiteria was beheaded, her falling head hit the ground and a water fountain sprung up from the spot. Coincidentally, a bishop named Faust made a sermon that day with a reference to the miracle that converted the entire city area into Christianity
- Her real form bares a resemblance to and may be based on the Pincushion Man from the 1935 animated short film Balloon Land
Trivia
- Upon her death, the Witch will fall over backwards. The Kyubey head will fall off, and there is a glimpse of the Witch's real head
- She is the same type of Witch as Latria.
