Romanization

i'm getting ready to touch this page up like i've been meaning to, but i have one question -- how are we romanizing "youkai" here? the trivia section on this page has it spelled about as inconsistently as possible; "yōkai" first, then "youkai", then "yokai". i personally prefer to use "youkai", but i know that's a relatively unpopular romanization choice; does the wiki have a preference for any romanization schemes in particular? if not, i'm just going to use "yōkai", since that's most common in academic circles and therefore probably as close as we're going to get to an "official" english spelling of the word. This is far from the only place where this wiki doesn't indicate the long vowel properly. I think I'd lean towards "youkai" in general, solely because there are also character names with long vowels, and needing to type an ō to find a character by name would be a pain for some people; and it would be weird to use macrons for yōkai but not for character names. But I'm totally okay with yōkai too. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 22:44, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
the standard set by official material (and therefore adopted by the wiki, since it seems like official romanizations/word of god are what get used) seems to opt for more "simplified" romanization -- ie, oba > ooba, yu > yuu, shi > shii, kyoko > kyouko (with the exception of "touka" and "hiiragi", which weren't shaved down into "toka" and "hiragi", for some reason -- not that i'm complaining). while i do prefer to use "youkai" when i write, i think i'll probably opt for "yōkai" in wiki material, with the macron, since that's the academic standard, and, since it's just a normal word with no relation to pmmm, i don't think it and character names need to follow the same rules. i don't think the macron should hinder wiki searches, since i'm pretty sure "yōkai" would also pop up if anybody were to search just "yokai".
