Summary
A Magical Girl who wanders about trying to find a place where she belongs. Unable to figure out what she likes, what she hopes to be, or even her own identity, she is always in a state of anxiety. Like the cafe her family runs, she is calm and quiet.
Doppel Description

The Doppel of fūten[1]. Its form is devata of wind[1]. The master of this emotion is disappointed in her Doppel’s ability, which, much like herself, ultimately cannot cross the sea no matter how fast it sprints about. This Doppel can swiftly reduce anything its feet touches to an arid, weathered state, but if it stays still, it too will sink into the desert ground it produces. Thus, it’s forced to constantly run around. It always runs around as fast as the wind as a result, but it’s unable to fly. When this Doppel appears, its master also sprints off along with it, but the weathered footprints left in their wake apparently make it very easy to track them down.

---|
The story begins with Shizuku's friends showing her something. Shizuku narrates that no-one bullies her and she has a good life. However, when she hangs out with her friends, she feels like she's not herself. For reasons she can't understand, she's disgusted when they say her name. She doesn't have an issue with her friends or family, but she feels unsteady. When people ask her what her future plans are, she never knows what to say. She feels like her future is covered in a fog. However, there's one thing that makes Shizuku feel like herself. When she returns home that day, she finds waiting for her "Fūten no onī-san", or Fūnī for short. Fūnī shows her pictures of a small island called Aoshima. Shizuku narrates that Fūnī likes to travel Japan and overseas, and is looking for a place to belong. Shizuku feels better when she's with him and wonders if he's looking for a place to find his footing also. She feels like she can't tell him about her feelings, but just knowing more about him is enough for her. Fūnī tells Shizuku that he wishes he could keep coming to her family's cafe forever. He asks if she'll inherit the place in the future. Shizuku says she doesn't know, and Fūnī invites her to search with him for a place they can spend their lives together. Shizuku is very happy to hear this, believing that at the very least she wouldn't be alone with him. However, one day she gets a phone call saying that a "Kasugai" was in an accident and that she was his only contact. Realizing that something happened to Fūnī, Shizuku wants to rush to his side. However, her parents refuse to help, pointing out they aren't even related. Shizuku says she doesn't want to be alone. Later, Kyubey appears before Shizuku and offers her a contract. Shizuku wish is "I want to see him...! Take me to where he is right this instant!!" Shizuku suddenly appears in a hospital and sees Fūnī lying in a bed. Fūnī thinks it must be a dream, and is being shown what he wants to see in his final moments. Shizuku says it isn't a dream, and Fūnī says he can rest in peace. Shizuku begs him to open his eyes, saying she made a promise with him to find the place where they belong. Fūnī thanks Shizuku and dies. Shizuku calls his name and says he lied to her while begging not to be left alone. Shizuku narrates that lives seem long until a crisis shows that it's as fragile as paper. She doesn't know how long she'll live, but she'll find a place to belong. Shizuku arrives at a beautiful place that she wanted to show Fūnī. However, it's not the place she's looking for. Shizuku narrates that when she became a magical girl, she received the power to "connect spaces". She can travel all over the world, though her power does have some sort of limitation. Shizuku has used her power to see villages and countries around the world, just like Fūnī did. However, she still hasn't found a place to belong, and thinks she has to do so before she dies. Shizuku talks to an unknown figure, who pays her. The figure invites her to join her group, but Shizuku has no interest. When the figure leaves, Yachiyo Nanami appears and asks Shizuku who she is. Yachiyo is with Tsuruno Yui and Iroha Tamaki, who introduce themselves. Yachiyo asks what relationship Shizuku has to the magical girl she spoke to. Shizuku says she's being payed to connect places together, but doesn't know why or what the group's plans are. (It's implied the group is Wings of Magius.) Yachiyo says she shouldn't let people she doesn't know use her power, and asks what Shizuku would do if her powers cause a disaster. Shizuku says she needs the money to find the place where she belongs. Iroha invites Shizuku to talk more at their house. When they arrive, Yachiyo says if she gets more people it will start feeling cramped. Felicia Mitsuki and Sana Futaba are waiting at the house to introduce themselves. Tsuruno invites Shizuku for dinner. Felicia and Tsuruno get into antics, which prompts Yachiyo to say it can be hard to relax. Shizuku says it's fine. At dinner, Iroha says that when she eats food with everyone it feels like she can find a place where she can belong. Shizuku finds the food is delicious. Afterward, Iroha invites Shizuku to stay the night. Yachiyo says Shizuku's parents might be worried, but Shizuku says they won't be because they don't say anything to her anymore. Felicia and Tsuruno get into an argument over grapes that Sana accidentally ate. Iroha tries to play peacemaker, while Yachiyo apologizes for the girls' antics. Shizuku says it's like a family, and Yachiyo agrees. Yachiyo says that since they're magical girls, the only way to live is by coming together since they all share the same fate. Shizuku thinks Yachiyo means they will all die someday. Yachiyo says that Iroha must feel the same, since she invited Shizuku to their house. Shizuku says that the other girls have found their place to belong. Yachiyo invites Shizuku to stay as long as she wants. Shizuku wonders if this is what she was looking for. Shizuku thinks that this house is where the other girls belong, but she realizes the place she belonged was with Fūnī. Shizuku starts crying, suddenly understanding the meaning of Fūnī's last words. The next day, she goes back to the unknown magical girl and does another job for them. Shizuku then asks what she's trying to do with her power. The other magical girl says Shizuku agreed to not ask questions. Shizuku says it's fine because she's terminating their agreement. She wonders if she can stay at Yachiyo's house and returns there. When she arrives, Shizuku finds the house is empty. She looks around at the plates each girl has, the toothbrushes next to the bathroom sink, and a picture on top of a cabinet. She thinks those are the bonds the five girls formed over time, and the house is overflowing with care. Shizuku hears the girls return and overhears them in conversation. Shizuku realizes that the place where they belong isn't her own, and feels like if she increases the number by one it will make the house cramped. She quietly bids the girls goodbye and departs unseen. It turns out Yachiyo got a cake for Shizuku and the girls were going to hold her a welcome party. The girls prepare and wait for Shizuku to arrive at the house, but she doesn't come. Yachiyo feels that Shizuku is in constant danger, as if she'll disappear if you take her eyes off her. She then announces that Shizuku might not be coming back. She admits she should have seen it coming. Shizuku returns to the unknown magical girl and asks for another assignment. When the magical girl asks why she came back, Shizuku says "their" picture was complete with five people. Shziuku claims she has to keep searching for the place where she belongs. The magical girl has no idea what Shizuku is talking about, but is happy for her continued service. She says she'll contact Shizuku when the time comes. Shizuku mentally apologizes to Yachiyo. She thinks her actions will cause a disaster, but isn't prepared to take responsibility. She feels that even now she's walking on unstable ground, leaving her unprepared. She wonders if she'll find solid ground, the place where she belongs.

Costume Stories

Shizuku was visiting Ryo Midori and Ikumi Makino at Ikumi’s maid café. She had asked them to meet her there so she could go through Ryo’s laptop and see all the Halloween photos that Ryo took last year. Ayaka was too busy to research costumes for an event that she and Seika Kumi were doing and had asked Shizuku to do it as a favor. The kind of costumes that Ayaka was looking for was “something that’ll make them smile uncontrollably, clothes that’ll brighten the whole place up”. Ikumi naturally suggested they go with maid outfits since they always brighten up her café but Shizuku just stares at her. Putting on a pouting face at first, Ikumi grabs Shizuku by the arm and takes her to the back of house to try on a maid outfit. After awhile of trying on the outfit, Shizuku changes back into her regular clothes. As nice as they are, she thinks maid outfits would be too cute for the manzai sketch that Ayaka and Seika are going to do. Ryo gets a good laugh out of seeing Shizuku try to resist Ikumi and thought that Shizuku’s pose made for a good laugh. Hearing her talk about how the movement and pose in the photo were what was so funny, Shizuku asks Ryo to show her again the photo of the Halloween outfits that the Mitakihara Magical Girls were wearing. Shizuku points to two of the outfits and says they’re perfect. She can just imagine Ayaka and Seika wearing the outfits and brightening up the stage as they move around in them. Ryo is glad that Shizuku found something she liked and asked if they can come over that day and take a picture. Shizuku says they’re more than welcome to.
The day of the event arrives and Ayaka puts on her big event with Ryo and Ikumi making it to the show. Ayaka asks if they enjoyed the show as Ikumi politely tells her they did. Ryo asks if she can get their picture and both Shizuku and Ayaka pose for the shot. Ryo says she doesn’t know anything about comedy, but she does know the two of them have very happy faces.

With the sound of a camera shutter, Shizuku wakes up in her cafe, where she is greeted by Ryo and Ikumi, with the latter scolding Ryo for taking pictures of people sleeping. After checking if Shizuku had been getting enough sleep, Ikumi then redirects the subject back to where they were just talking about Valentines Day, as Sakurako wanted to know what the special occasion was all about, saying that’s she wanted to learn so she could participate with Iroha and everyone else at Mikazuki Villa. Shizuku briefly senses that something is off, and asks Ryo why she came to see her, to which she says that she felt like Shizuku and Sakurako would get along well. Taken aback at first, Shizuku decides to go along with it, and the two formally greet each other. Ikumi then asks if everyone is ready to make some chocolates, while Ryo explains to Sakurako about the tradition of making and giving out chocolate. The four then discuss on where they would make said chocolates, but everyone’s place is either unavailable or too small. Ikumi initially suggests renting out the kitchen in the adjuster’s shop, but Ryo reminds her that Mitama would try to get involved, causing Ikumi to pity the chocolates being made in that scenario. Shizuku’s father comes over upon overhearing their situation, and offers for them to use the cafe’s kitchen, much to everyone’s delight. Despite it being small, Shizuku’s friends are eager to get started, with Ryo having bought all the ingredients, and Sakurako having the recipe in her internal database. Shizuku asks the three if they normally baked, to which Ikumi is the only one that does so, along with ketchup art, since she works at a maid cafe.
The baking begins, but problems appear just as quickly. Ryo is caught almost adding 120 grams of sugar instead of the required 80. She reveals that she doesn’t usually do measurements, and just throws everything in when she’s cooking at home, that of which leaves Shizuku astonished. Right after this, Ikumi slips and spills flour everywhere, and Ryo begins to playfully tease her about playing a clumsy character. Agitated, Ikumi begins to whine against the claim and begins flailing about, only to slip again over some spilled flour despite Ryo’s warnings, and falls onto the floor. Annoyed, Shizuku urges them to start taking things seriously, while Ikumi is melodramatically crying that she can’t get up. Just as Shizuku tells the two to be more like Sakurako, she notices that she also has gotten into some trouble, so she walks over to investigate.
Sakurako has taken the step of ‘letting the dough settle’ quite literally, and asks Shizuku about what she should do in order to settle the supposedly distressed dough. Shizuku isn’t sure of how she should explain, but when she passes the question over to Ikumi, Ryo suddenly starts taking pictures instead of helping.
Things get even more chaotic when Sakurako begins to wish that Hinano was with them, so that she could use chloroform to calm the dough, having learned the method from watching a drama. Ikumi and Ryo strongly discourage her from lacing the dough, warning her about all the legal trouble they would get into.
Ryo then tells her about how humans take deep breaths in order to calm down, but that just reminds Sakurako of Nemu drinking coffee in order to unwind.
Ikumi asks Sakurako if things like this often happen back at home, to which she answers that Yachiyo is usually intervening before mistakes can happen. This gives Shizuku the idea to switch up everyone’s positions so they can cover for each other’s shortcomings. With this change, the baking is done much faster. Sakurako points out that even though things were difficult at first, Shizuku was having fun without her realizing it, causing her to smile a little. Ryo then asks everyone of who they’re giving their portion of chocolate to, which leads to Sakurako asking why people give each other chocolate on Valentine’s Day.
Ryo answers that it’s a marketing strategy, while Ikumi believes that it is for giving ‘kyun-kyuns’ to loved ones. Sakurako asks what something sweet tastes like, where Ikumi replies with describing it as ‘fluffy, happy and melty’, before adding more ‘kyun-kyuns’ that end up confusing Sakurako. Ikumi rephrases her point as giving a heartfelt thanks to those that are most special in her life. Shizuku is awfully quiet, leading Ryo to believe that she wanted to say the same thing too, but just wasn’t sure about it.
The group then makes plans to exchange chocolates at Ikumi’s maid cafe along with Hinano and Ayaka, but it would have to take place before Valentine’s Day, since it will be very busy by then. Ikumi then states that there are more important things than giving chocolates, like doing so while in a ‘motivational’ outfit.
That evening at home, Shizuku is glad that she had fun, but is worried about Ikumi’s previous suggestion on outfits.
On the day of the party, Shizuku hopes her winter outfit won’t make her stand out too much, but when she arrives there, she realizes that only she and Hinano are dressed formally for the occasion. Ryo and Sakurako are in their school uniforms, and Ikumi is in her maid outfit. Ayaka, being Ayaka, is in a full on jester costume, therefore, gaining Hinano’s exasperated question of this get-together being a cosplay convention, before asking everyone individually why they chose their outfits. Ryo and Ikumi’s reasons were understandable, as they find motivation in their jobs. Sakurako confessed that she was originally going to go in either her combat form, or her swimsuit, but Iroha and Ui thankfully stopped her. Shizuku is completely off the hook, unlike Ayaka, who Hinano begins to loudly call out for her getup.
Completely oblivious to her exaggerated outfit, Ayaka talks about how she had planned to have Shizuku be her living taxi, but when she had missed her chance, she tagged along with Sakurako instead, naturally attracting a lot of attention in the process. As for her reason for said outfit, was because it got the most laughs out of people, and is surprised when Hinano is quick to strongly object. Still, everyone claims to enjoy having unique perspectives on motivation, but this just makes Hinano think she’s going crazy.
The time to exchange chocolates soon arrives, and everyone is asked to give a quick speech along with their homemade treats.
Sakurako goes first, and recaps how she was able to make everyone at home happy, and thanks her friends for teaching her about Valentine’s Day.
Hinano is next with her high quality chocolates, since baking is technically chemistry. Her speech is brief and direct with gratitude.
Ikumi’s turn is next, and naturally, her speech is filled with ‘kyun-kyuns’, and having fun with everyone. Ryo asks Ikumi if there was a punchline, causing her to complain that she was completely serious.
Ryo then takes her turn, and claims that nearly all her recent photos are filled with smiles, before thanking everyone for their continued support.
Next up, is Shizuku. At first, she has a little trouble getting started, but opens up about how she genuinely feels comfortable to be with everyone, and be her true self without worry, thanking them deeply for being with her.Ryo notices that Ikumi is going teary eyed, causing her and Sakurako to assume that she is playing another character, but in truth, Ikumi is just so proud of Shizuku’s growth.
Finally, Ayaka steps up for her speech. She talks about how Shizuku helped make her own chocolates last minute, before thanking everyone for being friends with someone like her, while also hoping that Sakurako will also be a new friend. Then, out for the blue, she apologizes to Shizuku for constantly being ‘noisy and meddlesome’.
Taken aback by this, Shizuku reaffirms in her mind that she doesn’t believe that, and although she is out, she still enjoys her company. Ayaka then shouts that everyone should do a group photo, and they all agree, wanting to preserve the chaotic, yet wholesome moment. Everyone crowds around Ikumi, and Ryo takes Shizuku by surprise when she pulls her into frame. With another camera shutter, Shizuku becomes disoriented, and suddenly wakes up in the hospital late at night. She wonders what time it is, and checks her phone, only to be greeted by the Valentine’s group photo as her screensaver.
Tears fill her eyes as she remembers Ryo, and that those carefree days are not coming back. A nurse comes in after seeing that she was awake, and tells her that she was brought there after collapsing in the park that was near her cafe. Shizuku only remembers going into shock after hearing the news about Ryo. She was then told that Ayaka was the one that called an ambulance, and she stayed by her side the whole way, but went home before she woke up, saying that she would probably just be noisy and meddlesome, and make Shizuku mad. Shizuku remembers Ayaka saying the exact same thing in her dream of the past, and tells herself again that is not true. Yes, Ayaka noisy, and gets into trouble frequently, but Shizuku says that liveliness of her’s might have actually saved her. She wants to tell Ayaka that, but isn’t sure how. She looks back on what her friends said in her dream, and decides that even if it wasn’t Valentine’s Day, she was going to put on her winter outfit and gift some heartfelt chocolates. She sees her chance to sneak out, and takes it, transforming and using her magic.
Once at home, Shizuku gets dressed, telling Ayaka to wait for her, and promising that she will tell her what she had failed to that day.Appearances

Other Appearances
Shizuku appears in Madoka's side story. Madoka and Homura help her out when she uses up too much magic.
Shizuku appears in Mitama Yakumo's side story. Mitama and Ayaka are determining the next place she'll visit by throwing darts at a map.
She also appears as a relatively significant role in both Yuma Chitose's and Kirika Kure's side stories.
Powers and Abilities
Shizuku does possess the ability to teleport and to some degree can determine the location she can go to as long as it isn't too far from the place she was first located at before teleporting. The further the distance is however, the less likely it is Shizuku will be able to land on that exact spot. Her teleportation seems to also be utilised through the form of portals as she can link two areas together between them if she wishes to, allowing for ease of access. These portals can also be used by other magical girls and humans as her portals were utilised by the Wings Of The Magius at one point in time.
Shizuku can also use her teleportation ability within combat to confuse her enemy or to avoid attacks coming at her as she can attack enemies with her chakrams from multiple angles in a short span of time by using this ability. Her chakrams also can be thrown on their own to attack enemies at a further distance though this isn't always reliable.
When her soul gem turns fully black, she can call upon her doppel, Vayu which appears to have the ability to create strong, humid air currents and storms which leave Shizuku's foes in a withered, arid state. The doppel can also move at very high speeds once it gets itself going, allowing Shizuku to escape from danger if necessary but ultimately she doesn't find it reliable either because it is always very agile and can easily carry her off if she doesn't control it well enough.
Etymology
- The characters of her last name mean "keep" (保) and "clear"(澄), respectively.
- The character in her first name means "(water) drop" (雫).
- Her doppel name, Vayu, is based on the Hindu god of the same name, god of the winds and breath frequently depicted riding a gazelle mount.
Trivia
- Shizuku's halloween outfit is the same as the one Mami wears in this promotional image.
- Manzai is a traditional stand-up comedy act involving a duo - a tsukkomi (straight man) and boke (funny man). They tell jokes that involve misunderstandings, puns, and other odd gags that you often see Ayaka throw out.
- Her doppel's nature, fūten, means the vagabond. This phrase is made famous by Tora-san the fūten (the vagabond Tora), the protagonist of Japanese comedy film series Otoko wa Tsurai yo. The "Tora" in his name means tiger, and he travels from place to place with only his small traveling suitcase. The design of the Doppel may be a reference to it.
- Also, the actor who played him, Kiyoshi Atsumi, composed haiku poems with the pen name "風天 (fūten, the devata of wind)".
