Summary

On December 29-31, 2011 at Comic Market 81, Shaft will be selling a follow-up to the Production Note. It is the "Puella Magi Madoka Magica Production Note, Key Animation Note Vol. 1: Opening Key Animation" and will feature original illustrations from the opening theme. Like with the Production Note, SHAFT will be collaborating with Milky Isobe. The Key Animation Note is 128 pages and in full color. The bonus that come with it includes 3D postcards. The limited edition front and back covers are by Gekidan Inu Curry, while the general sale cover will be by animation director Junichiro Taniguchi. The contents within will be the same. The samples thus far look similar to the Production Note with full-page drawings and storyboards. It also comes with a bonus Inu Curry bag.

Shaft will be selling six volumes of the Key Animation Note to the general public. From the information provided here, each volume subsequent to the first one focuses on a set of episodes and a girl. The volumes are thicker and higher in price as the volumes continue. An extra volume was announced for Comic Market 83 containing new material from the two compilation movies.

Trivia

• The first set of the Key Animation Note Volume 1 sold at Comiket 81 had an error with the runes on the cover, where the rune for "n" is missing at the end of "Animation." This will be fixed in reprintings. There was also a mistake on one of the advertisements, with the rune for "a" missing at the end of "Madoka."
• Key Animation Note Volume 1 sold out early each day at Comiket, as early as noon.
• Key Animation Note Volume 6 comes with a collector's box for all six volumes.
