Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record Anime
The anime adaptation of the smartphone-exclusive game Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record (マギアレコード 魔法少女まどか☆マギカ外伝 Magia Recōdo: Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika Gaiden). The anime was first announced in September 2018 and was originally slated for a fall 2019 release; it was later confirmed at Magia Day 2019 that the anime will be released on January 4, 2020.
A production of animation studio SHAFT, the series is directed and written by Gekidan Inu Curry, with Yukihiro Miyamoto serving as assistant director, Junichirō Taniguchi serving as character designer, and Takumi Ozawa composing the series' music. Akiyuki Shinbo will serve as animation supervisor. The cast will reprise their roles from the game. TrySail performs the series' opening theme song Gomakashi, while ClariS performs the series' ending theme song Aletheia. Aniplex of America licensed the series, and the series will air on Tokyo MX, GYT, GTV, BS11, and MBS. The series will stream on FunimationNOW and AnimeLAB beginning January 4, and on Crunchyroll and Hidive from January 11.
A new trailer for Magia Record Anime was also revealed on Magia Day 2019. A second trailer was released on November 30, 2019 that confirmed the official release date.
Season 2 of the anime was announced on the official website on June 10, 2021. This announcement confirmed the airdate of Season 2 for Summer of 2021. The second season's opening is Careless by ClariS and he ending theme is Lapis by TrySail.
Synopsis
In exchange for the fulfillment of a wish, Magical Girls keep fighting, unbeknownst to the rest of the world. But Iroha Tamaki can't seem to remember her wish.
"When I became a Magical Girl, what did I wish for again?"
There is a gaping hole in her life. Something important has been lost. But she continues to fight every day, without even knowing why...
Then, a rumor begins to spread among Magical Girls.
"Magical Girls can be saved if they go to Kamihama."
Kamihama City, the city where Magical Girls and Uwasa are gathering. The story of Iroha Tamaki, in search of her lost wish, begins...
