Madogatari

Madogatari is a term used to refer to a collaborative event celebrating Studio SHAFT's 40th anniversary. Multiple showings occurred, with an initial run covering Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo. Tokyo ran November 28th to December 2nd, 2015, Osaka from December 22nd to 27th, and Sapporo from Febuary 9th to 14th, 2016.[1] An encore performance was held in Nagoya, running May 4th[2] to May 8th, 2016[3]
Each exhibition tended to show more materials not initially shown in earlier settings, such as the storyboard outline for the Concept Movie.[4]
On Display
On display at the SHAFT 40 event were myriad artpieces, sketches, and in-production works.

In the above picture, graphics and drawings used in both the original series animation, as extras in Rebellion, on Blu-Ray releases are on display. Also on show are concept art and sketches for witches like Candeloro, the familiars of Witch of Salvation. The exhibit is also one that showed off designs for witch cards, something seen later in the Walpurgisnacht Rising trailers, as well as originally seen on the Puella Magi Madoka Magica website.
Also on display were sketches shown as part of the Concept Movie, like Sayaka and Mami fighting together (bottom right of frame), as well as witch designs not from the main series like Quitterie (right side, lower thirds).
New Media
This event also had on show several pieces of art that have not been before or since in a higher resolution form. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
-
Candeloro's Pendant Transformation Sketch Art
-
Candeloro Concept Art (Backside)
-
Du Polignac Concept Art (Familiars of Candeloro)
-
Candeloro & Du Polignac Witch Cards
-
Witch of Despair Concept Art
-
Familiar of the Witch of Salvation
-
Concept art for Albertine
Crossover Media
As the name suggests, this event also had on display quite a bit of art showing characters from Monogatari as magical girls.[5] This comes with the added benefit of more visual styling and framing that aligns it with Puella Magi Madoka Magica and helps to better illustrate the creative intent of the exhibition. Noticeably, the characters' names are displayed in Runes.
All of these designs were then directly used in a Monogatari collaboration event in Magia Record.
On Show
This event is largely attributed as the origin of the Concept Movie's proliferation, while only one version of the concept movie was shown at the exhibition. A later showing in Osaka had somewhat significant differences, later known as the "Type B" concept movie.[6][7]
Some showings of the Madogatari event seem to also include production materials for the Concept Movie.
