Side Story

Fate T. Harlaown's Side Story

Fate, Nanoha, and Hayate are participating in a tournament where magical girls battle one another to determine the champion team. The tournament is taking place inside of Mirrors. During one of the breaks between matches, as they fight off some familiars, they're met by a copy of Fate. The copy begins to attack Fate, so Nanoha asks Raising Heart to finish it off but it's too powerful. As they continue to trade blows, Felicia, Kako, and Ayame appear and they attempt to take on the Fate copy themselves. Fate summons Bardiche and takes down the Fate copy.

As the battle ends, Felicia asks the girls what they're doing here. Fate reluctantly admits they had gotten lost. Kako explains the "practice zone" and "standy zone" are really just the earliest layers in Mirrors, but that doesn't mean they're completely safe. Ayame is completely impressed with Fate and gushes at her weapon. Fate thinks back to when she first acquired Bardiche and thanks the weapon for its help. Felicia is surprised when the weapon responds and explains they have nothing like that in Kamihama. Ayame asks where they're from, with Fate only responding that she was born in a foreign country. Ayame thought they looked smarter than Felicia, prompting Felicia to pick a fight with her. As the two start fighting, Kako asks if Fate and her friends are the same age as them but it seems the trio are actually younger than Kako and her friends. As they all agree to be friends, Fate asks if it's a bad thing that they're younger. Ayame says that's fine, as they can join their club once they reach their age without realizing they themselves will always be older. Felicia can't believe she didn't realize that before as Kako and the other girls just smile at them. The Kamihama girls explain they all joined the tournament as part of different teams and they lead the Nanoha trio back to the standby zone.

As the Nanoha girls were chatting and heading back, they somehow got roped into a dodgeball game. Ayame thinks it'll be good practice before her upcoming match, while both Hayate and Kako preferring to watch from the sidelines. Since everyone else is on board, they all six of them agree to a quick dodgeball game, no magic allowed. Natsuki, who is also participating in the tournament, can sense an intense match is about to begin and readies herself to cheer for both teams.

With Felicia winning in the rock-paper-scissors, it means their team will go first. The two teams split up and spread out across the area. Felicia throws a dodgeball right at Fate first, who catches the ball and leaps up, spinning in midair before throwing the ball right at Ayame and hitting her squarely. As they're playing, Momoko's team and Iroha's team hear the commotion and come over to watch the game. Felicia readies herself to throw the ball again, but this time she passes it to Ayame who throws it to outfield as she aims for Hayate. The throw is successful and the teams are tied. Mitama and the other girls continue to watch the game and marvel at Fate and Felicia's physical prowess.

Felicia aims to throw the ball at Ayame once more, but Fate is able to run in and intercept the ball. She throws it once more and lands a blow on Felicia, winning the game. Felicia turns and calls out to the Momoko trio, asking them to avenge her. The trio reluctantly agrees and prepare for the second round of dodgeball. Fate and her friends are eager to give it all they've got as they begin the match. Fate grabs the dodgeball and immediately knocks Rena and Kaede out of the match. Natsuki declares the game over and cheers on both teams for a job well done.

As Yachiyo and the others watch, Felicia chides Team Momoko for not avenging her. Kaede had thought Momoko and Rena were good at sports, but Rena admits the only exercise she gets is at idol shows. Ayame and Felicia are frustrated they aren't able to best Fate, prompting Mitama to encourage Yachiyo to join in the next round of dodgeball. The girls try to think of who is good at sports, and Kako mentions that both Akira and Meiyui practice martial arts. Sasara volunteers Asuka, who is a naginata instructor.

Akira, Meiyui, and Asuka square up against Fate and her friends. Nanoha and Hayate are a little worried since they keep upping the ante with each match, but are willing to keep playing. The match is intense as all of the girls except Fate and Akira are knocked out of the game. Akira throws the ball at Fate who catches it once more and spins around, tossing the ball back at Akira and winning the game. Natsuki declares Team Fate to be the winners of the dodgeball tournament. Iroha and Yachiyo are amazed at how strong Fate is considering she's much younger than them. This only incites Tsuruno, who is eager to take on Fate's team. Momoko scolds Tsuruno for not acting like the adult she is, but Tsuruno doesn't care about age and wants to prove her worth. She asks for two more team members to join her in the final match against Team Fate. She decides to scout out other more sport oriented magical girls and asks Masara (who's on the swim team) and Natsuki (who used to play baseball and is on the cheer club) to be on her team. The girls agree and they ready themselves for the final match.

Hayate is quickly hit at the beginning of the match. Tsuruno aims for Fate and narrowly misses, striking Fate and scoring a point. Natsuki and Nanoha watch Fate and Tsuruno going at it from the sidelines as the battle between the two is too intense. Fate is able to intercept the ball and throws it at Tsuruno, who is able to dodge the attack. Masara grabs the ball and throws it, but Fate is just able to dodge it by less than a hair. Kaede and the others marvel at how athletic Tsuruno's team is.

As the match winds down, only Fate and Tsuruno are left staring each other down. Tsuruno throws the ball but Fate is just able to catch it. Yachiyo notes that Tsuruno is not only strong, but quite fast herself which could put Fate at a disadvantage if the match continues too long. Fate throws the ball at Tsuruno, who catches it and throws it right back at her only for Fate to catch it in turn. The two continue their rapid-fire battle, both throwing the ball faster and harder at each other and each one catching the other's throw.

Fate calls out to her teammates and locks gaze with Hayate, only for her to instead throw it to Nanoha. Nanoha tosses the ball back as Fate leaps into the air and throws the ball down at Tsuruno, finally striking her and winning the match. Everyone was happy with the dodgeball tournament and were glad to make new friends.
