Film 5 Day 3 Sayaka is sulking at the cross walk, after failing to get the rare CD she wanted, along with some other minor inconveniences. Madoka then bumps into her, and after a quick talk, they spot Mabayu walking back to work. The two get curious about the cafe and decide to go. When inside, Sayaka shows Madoka an image from their elementary admission, which just so happens to have both Hitomi and Kyosuke in it, leading Sayaka to believe that her and Kyosuke were destined to meet. She talks about how she loves listening to him play, and wanted more people to hear him. Since his accident, she’s been supporting him now more than ever. Sakie overhears this as she is bringing over the girls a coffee refill, and shows admiration for Sayaka’s devotion, so much so that she assumes she’s a fan of Kyosuke. Sayaka blushes, but ends up accepting the idea of being his first ever fan. Day 13 Sayaka is now working at the cafe alongside Mabayu, and while she is suspicious of her coworker’s behavior, she’s just happy that she got her hands on some more CDs. She then has a conversation with Sakie, who is still grinning over Sayaka being Kyosuke’s first ever fan, before dropping the ball and asking if she had confessed yet. Caught off guard, Sayaka replies that she and Kyosuke are ‘frenemies’. Sakie apologizes for flustering Sayaka, and gives her a chocolate bar, but the gesture makes her feel like she’s being infantilized. Still, the chocolate turns out to be good, and since it’s limited edition, Sakie offers to give Sayaka the entire box just as Mabayu walks by. At closing time, Sakie remembers that she forgot to prepare a cake for Sayaka’s trip to the hospital. Sayaka brushes it off, even though she was hoping for one, but Sakie seemed to read her mind, and suggested she make one and have it ready for pickup. Sayaka worries that she’s doing too much, which brings on the idea that she would prepare the cake herself. Enamoured by the opportunity, Sayaka agrees to do it while being trained by Sakie, whilst an observing Mabayu notices their bonding. On the way home, Sayaka is approached by Kyubey, but she doesn’t immediately take on his offer. Day 14 At school, Sayaka’s mind is clouded by her encounter on the previous night. She looks back on her child-self watching Kyosuke preform, and despite not being in the mood for baking, still holds up her promise to go see Sakie. At the cafe, Sayaka gets to pick out the shape and toppings of the cake, which Sakie revealed to be a custom order someone else got for a love confession, briefly embarrassing Sayaka again. Once the cake is cooling, Sayaka begins to work on the chocolate message boards, and ends up getting creative due to the small sizes of all the pieces. She initially writes the word “love”, but realizes that may be a bit too direct, and makes a few more. Sakie comes over to see, but before she can properly show her, she is drawn away by the arrival of customers. When Sayaka gets back, she finds the cake already packaged and ready to go. Realizing the time, Sakie sends her on her way, but not before wishing her good luck, to Sayaka’s confusion. When Sayaka arrives at the hospital, a nurse tells her that Kyosuke is still getting checked up, so she will have to wait for a few minutes. She double checks with the nurse to make sure that the cake is suitable for the hospital policies, who confirms that since it was near the patient’s discharge, it was safe, but then joked about how he would need to be spoon fed due to his injured hand. Sayaka is rightfully appalled as the nurse runs off, calling her Kyosuke’s girlfriend. Now left alone, Sayaka begins to get nervous, especially with how the nurse was speaking. She decides to check on the cake, which thankfully is just fine, except for the message plate screaming “love”. Sayaka panics as she realizes Sakie misunderstood which plate she wanted, which explained her encouragement as she left for the hospital. She suddenly hears footsteps, and realizes Kyosuke is coming. She considers removing the plate altogether, but that would leave evidence. With no other option, she decides to use the hot water that was purposed for the nearby tea station. She breathes a sigh of relief as she seemingly fixes the situation, and goes to finally see Kyosuke. The visit goes smoothly as Kyosuke admires all the CDs, and Sayaka decides to bring out the cake, where the message now read “move”, thanks to the gifted chocolate bars Sayaka received the other day. Kyosuke goes quiet, probably due to the message. She quickly improvises that the message was intended for ‘moving’ out of the hospital. It seems to work, as Kyosuke asks to try to cake, but is unable to eat properly. Sayaka remembers what that one nurse said, and sheepishly offers to feed him herself, to which he obliges. After the cake is eaten, the two listen to the CDs Sayaka brought in. The two huddle close so they can both listen, leading to Sayaka blushing. The violin music makes her reminisce on watching Kyosuke when she was younger, and the two share a silent peaceful moment, not noticing the nurse briefly walk in on them. After a while, Sayaka notices that Kyosuke was crying. Upon leaving for the night, Sayaka processed her emotions and wondered if she did anything wrong, before remembering Kyubey from the other night, and making up her mind. Day 32 Sayaka, now a magical girl, is preparing to face Walpurgisnacht with Madoka, who is nervous about the battle. Sayaka is confident that if they combine their strength, they can prevail, bringing her spirits back up. However, that changes when Walpurgisnacht launches a single attack, knocking both down. Madoka realizes that the witch is headed for the town, and reminds Sayaka that Kyosuke’s house is in her path, since he had been discharged recently. Madoka then vows to stop Walpurgisnacht herself, and tells Sayaka to go bring Kyosuke to safety. Reluctantly, she runs off, leaving Madoka to face the witch alone. Mitakihara is collapsing in on itself as Sayaka races through it, and soon finds Kyosuke weakened but unharmed. As he notices his friend’s new appearance and assumes he’s dreaming, Walpurgisnacht suddenly emerges in the distance, causing Sayaka to realize the worst for Madoka. Walpurgisnacht attacks once more, this time making a pillar collapse onto them. Sayaka manages to protect Kyosuke, but is badly wounded as a result. As Sayaka is relived that she saved her friend’s music, she mentions her healing ability when asked about her physical state, but doesn’t elaborate further. Instead, she tells Kyosuke to stay alive, and to have more people hear his music. With that, she charges at Walpurgisnacht in a last stand. Internally, Sayaka apologizes to Madoka, but says that she’s content for having protected Kyosuke and his violin, so she at least got a little salvation… right? The last sound Kyosuke hears is Sayaka’s soul gem shattering. He then wakes up to rescuers around him, and as he’s carried away, more first responders attempt to resuscitate Sayaka’s nearby body. At the evacuation center, he overhears that Sayaka had died, but she had strangely looked at peace. As he grieves, Kyosuke remembers Sayaka’s last words to him, and regardless if it were a dream or not, he knows that he has to fulfill her wishes. Some time later, Kyosuke gets on a stage, introduces himself, and begins to play Ave Maria. |
