Summary

Side Story

Mayoi Hachikuji reflects how her wish upon becoming a Magical Girl was to return home, but she still cannot reach the place she longs for, so she plans to ask Kyubey about it.

Shortly after being invited to Mikazuki Villa, she plays Old Maid with Tsuruno, Felicia, Yotsugi, and Shinobu. Mayoi wins the game, but Yotsugi notices she seemed absent-minded, and Shinobu agrees. Mayoi then goes to the kitchen and asks Yachiyo if she can help with dinner, admitting she always wished she could cook with her mom and has barely been in a kitchen during her journey. Yachiyo agrees, and Mayoi joins Iroha and Sana in making dumplings, proving to be a natural. Yotsugi and Shinobu come to watch, and when they try their own hands at dumpling making, both fail miserably. Mayoi boasts about her perfect dumplings and declares herself the rightful leader of the little girls, sparking a three-way argument with Shinobu and Yotsugi over who should lead.

Tsuruno suggests playing a game to decide the leader, and Felicia wants to join. Shinobu insists that Iroha, as the leader of Team Mikazuki Villa, must also participate to prove her ability to topple an opposing leader, and the group agrees. They play a life simulation board game. Mayoi starts strong, expanding her family and collecting wealth, but after repeatedly messing up her transportation transfers, she ends up broke and stranded in the Amazon. Iroha wins the game, and Mayoi declares Iroha the official leader of the little girls, much to Iroha's confusion. Mayoi feels this has been the most fun she has had in a while, yet she cannot shake an uneasy feeling.

After everyone decides to stay over at Mikazuki Villa, Yachiyo announces bath time and says they should go one at a time. Mayoi suddenly bolts out of the house, claiming she will take a walk while waiting to be last. Iroha chases after her and finds her safe. Mayoi apologizes for worrying everyone and explains that when Yachiyo said "bath time, one at a time," it felt like such a family moment that her heart just wouldn't calm down. She left to do something familiar, like walking, to settle herself. Mayoi then revisits her wish: after her parents' divorce, she tried to go back to her mother's place but could never reach it, so she wished to go home. Being at Mikazuki Villa, playing games, cooking and talking around the table, makes her feel like her wish has finally come true, and she was so happy it overwhelmed her. But she admits to herself that the more at home she feels at Mikazuki Villa, the more she senses it is not the home she truly wants to return to. Walking next to Iroha, she looks up at the sky, recalls that Yotsugi said this sky is different from the one she knows, and yet she cannot tell the difference. She remembers she is a ghost, that going back to her mother's house will not change anything, and she wonders: where exactly is it that she wants to go back to?
