Spoilers

Do we keep spoilering everything that isn't broadcast information, or do we just put a big spoiler alert at the top of the page and un-spoiler everything? 'cause I think it's gonna end up pretty much as a black page soon seeing how it goes ... --Homerun-chan 09:07, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Part of me wants to say 'if you're browsing wiki articles on a series you haven't finished watching, you're asking for trouble unless you know exactly what you're looking for and don't accidentally end up on spoiler filled pages'. The other part wants to say that tagging spoilers is the only polite way to do it.

Someone needs to add the mahou shoujo from all over the world to the page, because the world needs more moeviking.

  • And moebear. MsDevin92 00:31, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Witches

"Cleopatra (Roberta) and Joan d'arc (Elsa Maria) were magical girls. ...perhaps Anne Frank too?"

Well, I think it's possible that Roberta was Cleopatra and Joan d'Arc was Elsa Maria ... but is this official information? Sounds like speculah to me. Keksus 15:46, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

  • One of the Puella Magi that is retroactively purified by Madoka is a girl sitting on a crowded train and crying. Fans think it's Anne Frank on her way to the work camps. MsDevin92 00:31, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
They aren't destined to become witches, more like destined to die. Like history says...
    • Well, since the body 'dies' when they become a witch, some fans think they may have left the bodies but become witches. MsDevin92 02:07, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
  • I feel like these witches would of long been defeated. I don't think it would of taken them that long to hatch based on how fast Sayaka went down after turning. If they were still around they must of been Walpurgisnacht status.--Mimihamburger 20:16, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Something's going on with this page

In this edit, I merely added a picture, but it ended up deleting a bunch of unrelated stuff as well, for some reason. BrickBreak 23:52, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Homura's 'New Weapon/Wish'

Her shield ran out of sand, which as you know, means that it can't stop time anymore until she resets the timeline. Furthermore, her shield outright disappeared when Madoka did that... thing with the breaking of reality, but her magical girl clothes did not. Therefore: 1) Maybe she chooses not to use the shield anymore, since without sand, it's nothing but a hunk of steel attached to her arm; this would also imply it's either impossible to reset the timeline and get more sand, or that doing so would really not fix anything so she's not bothering. 2) Maybe she chooses not to use the shield anymore out of respect for Madoka and upholds her memory with the bow/arrow combo, an ability granted to her when Madoka fixed her Soul Gem and gave her her ribbon. 3) Maybe she did in fact make a new wish in this timeline.

One thing to keep in mind is that Homura likely would NOT have a new wish to make (or probably would not have WANTED to make a new wish, knowing it's still a mess), so it's more likely that her wish is still the same and she exists 'beyond spacetime' like she did in all of the timelines but the first. In this case theories 1 and 2 are more likely. It's also very obvious that Homura remembers the events of the past and Madoka, and therefore couldn't have been reset into making a new wish.

Interesting (funny?) thing about a picture

About http://wiki.puella-magi.net/File:Homura_and_Madoka_God.jpg picture, I recall there was a moment during either episode 11 or 12 where a part of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Creation_of_Adam was seen in the background. Trying to find it now... If anyone else also found it, please upload and link! Aquamarine39 03:10, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Evangelion

More than just the ultimate upshot, there are visual allusions and borrowings to Eva. See http://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/gv86f/so_now_that_reddit_works_lets_talk_about_the/c1qkt98 or fanart like http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/903116/bow-earth-end_of_evangelion-hair_bow-hair_ornament --69.113.107.89 02:30, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Afghan Girl

I am having a difficult time accepting she is the National Geographic's "Afghan Girl" considering she is still alive and in her thirties. --Mutopis 20:29, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

I think rather she's supposed to represent the idea of history, much like the Tibetan girl, rather than any one exact historical figure. If had to place her anywhere it would be the Iranian Revolution of the late 70's. 0xfoo 14:21, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Maybe a bit later than that. I noticed this a while ago, but I forgot to mention it: the tank/artillery piece in the background likely posseses explosive reactive armor. If that is true, anything before the 80's is excluded, so my guess would be that she's a victim of either of the Gulf Wars or the most recent war in Afghanistan.
Than again, that might be only battle damage on the hull, or I'm going blind. (Brick @ University)

Viking Girl

I'd like to offer the idea that this girl might not just be someone dressed in Viking garb, but rather a Valkyrie based on the wings and the battle equipment. This would also make her a less random historical character to display. 0xfoo 15:31, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

A Puella Magi's costume probably just reflects her character and personal tastes. The montage where she appeared in was supposed to show various settings in various points in history (or the future). Like how Bear-tan appeared in a semi-futuristic city and Purple Girl appeared in what we many assume to be the tragedy in Pompeii.

I think Viking Girl was probably just an unfortunate girl who made a wish during one of the many Scandinavian conflicts in history. MochaCoffee 16:06, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

The Pompeii theory doesn't make sense. Her garb isn't Grecian, especially not from 79 A.D. If anything, it's a later volcano, given her dress, most likely in Western or Central Europe. The fly-in from a few seconds before the Purple Girl also shows three separate volcanoes active at the same time, not just the one shown in the scene. As far as Viking Girl goes, I'm not saying she was a Valkyrie, rather that would be what she would be perceived as, since I believe it's trying to follow the logic that a god might just be a magical girl, much like the way they show Joan D'Arc, who was by many believed to have god's will as her ally. 0xfoo 17:18, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Changes on the New World

In the world after the change it becomes a seemingly different development, the four fight the alternate demons and stop them by the means of Sayaka’s sacrifice. I also talked with director Akiyuki Shinbo a fair bit about that nicety. In the end one’s own self doesn’t fade away despairing, but because it fades away using up this power--the converting into a witch is also a different thing. I think, to save the city and helping someone pervaded Sayaka’s wish. If you think so even though Sayaka ceased to exist it might have been blissful, right? Mami, Kyouko and Homura will have the same fate. So Madoka comes for them and takes them along to a different universe.[1][2]

This confirms what we have suspected all along, dying Puellae Magi will fade and blissfully pass on without regrets, there are no more witches nor will anyone become one, and maybe all Puellae Magi go to an afterlife (different universe?) --Mutopis 23:55, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Homura Not in Japan

In the screenplay, that scene was only put as “not in Japan”[3]

After reading the interview, I like the (possible) idea that Homura is literally not in Japan but in a different geographic location. If they ever decided to make a new season or an entire new series they should use the idea of Homura going around the world killing monsters, perhaps meeting new girls from different continents... --Mutopis 02:46, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Production error

>>> Don't you see anything wrong here?

LOL, so that's the aftermath of Fukushima?

Also in the concert hall Sayaka is shown for a moment alone (with neighbour seats empty), but before and after Madoka is left to her. But maybe Madoka has to leave her for a moment to kill another witch? 46.233.195.68 17:09, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Dropping a note here,

HUGE SUCCESS.

Just browesing random on the puella wiki, it's amazing how polished the wiki pages have come, or how active we still are, three months since the Last Thursday. - Prima 06:44, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

I usually don't notice it with the RSS feed, but as I skimmed through the recent changes after 2 weeks of absence, it also striked me how active we still are. And Season 2 hasn't even started yet! --Homerun-chan 20:41, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Fansub used (and the extent of Madokami's powers)

I'm curious as to which fansub was used as a source for the storyline in this episode. Someone over at a forum has raised the inconsistency of Madoka's quoted wish in the Yesy and the Nutbladder versions; the first one states that she wishes to erase all witches in every universe while the other has her wishing to do the same in the universe. - Lord of the Kakapos 08:54, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Yesy should be used. They have the most accurate translation, as validated by fluent speakers. Even I can tell at times that they're superior. It's also clear later on by context with Madoka talks about knowing every universe that exists or could exists that her presence is crossing universes to kill all witches. This reinforces that Yesy is correct. --randomanon 14:14, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
If Yesy's translation proves to be true, it does raise some interesting theories. The temporal paradox that erases canon Madoka from existence may simply apply to the canon universe, as alternate universes could exist in a separate plane of time. There may even be universes where the laws of science or magical girls may not be compatible with the abilities bestowed to Madokami. I can imagine fanfic writers having a lot of fun with this. - Lord of the Kakapos 09:43, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Typical Madoka, she wants to save everyone, including parallel versions in every universe, no wonder QB was shocked. --Mutopis 21:02, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Request for verification: Homura in the new world

I stumble upon this from 4chan:

This is the original Japanese link: http://hyaku-shiki.tumblr.com/post/16079107732

and this is the (according with 4chan) "translation:

>Q. What happens when Homura dies in the new world? >A. Homura cannot die. As her wish was to protect Madoka in the first place. As long as Madoka is alive, Homura is somewhat an immortal. As Madoka became completely eternal, thus, Homura is as eternal and part of the cosmos, as much as Madoka is.

>Q. The meaning of the last epilogue scene. >A1. It may be a prolonged fact that eventually Puella Magi will loose their magic, and get taken away by Madoka. If Homura dies during that last scene due to running too low on magic and despair, then she will finally reunite with Madoka. If she wins, then her reunion with Madoka will forever become far away.

>-as some think, but Homura is eternal, considering Madoka is eternal as well. Consider her somewhat similar to Viral from Gurren Lagann. She cannot die no matter what the circumstance is, as long is what she protects remains within the cycle of the Torus. “Do your best.” Can be thought out as perhaps Madoka’s last words before Homura dies, when she really meant was “Do your best, I’ll be back soon.” in a sense -which is one theory. OR it can mean that “I’m back.” Since Homura gave a confident smile. It can be misleading to some that She will only retunite upon death, and those encouraging words were Madoka’s last words to Homura before she dies in her last battle.

>In the new world, by scientific law, Homura and Madoka are one halves of a whole.

>One of two ways Homura will ever reunite with Madoka, is if she somehow found a way to die. Or if she becomes patient, and waits for Madoka’s return(Which she returned in the epilogue if one wants to see it that way). She said she’ll be back soon.

I need someone to verify the reliability of translation/source. --Mutopis 12:06, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

This thing contradicts what Urobuchi already established/mentioned. --Mutopis 12:20, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Oddly, the Japanese text in that link combines paragraphs from these two posts. Both of them are dated around the 22nd of April though and they look like opinions rather than something official. --Knon 16:02, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
They are opinions, not part of any kind of official interview. You can disregard. --randomanon 19:59, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
I thought so. --Mutopis 23:39, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Though I have to admit it is a very interesting perspective/argument. Kerigis 08:36, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Movie Version Ending

(WARNING: THIS IS HIGHLY SPECULATIVE UNTIL RELEASE OF THE THIRD FILM)

There is speculation that the New World version of the movie is not the same from the anime series version. The New World concept of the movie version radically departs from the anime version that it alters the original storyline. If the creators have made the story from the movie version a different story from that of the anime version, so we must consider both versions to be equally valid. If we consider the New World of the movie version and anime version to be cannon then one acceptable explanation is that these two Worlds are from different universes. How these two worlds are connected has not been explained. As such the anime series ending (and the events transpiring in the New World) must be treated as a separate event/story from the movie version. Thus the original message of the series (and its storyline) has not been changed or altered.
