Sayaka chops up the Witch without care for her own injuries.		自らの負傷も意に介さず魔女を切り刻むさやか。
Madoka and Kyouko watch in horror.		それを愕然と見守るまどかと杏子。
The Witch has ceased all movement. Sayaka is so seriously injured that it's a mystery she's alive at all. However, her healing magic immediately begins to help her recover.		ついに魔女が動かなくなる。さやかは生きているのが不思議なほどの重傷。だがそれも、すぐに発動した治癒魔法によって再生されていく。
Sayaka:	It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it... There's no way I can lose now.	さやか「ハン、やり方さえ分かつちやえば簡単なもんだね。...これなら負ける気がしないわ」
The Witch's corpse vanishes. The Barrier dissipates. The surroundings return to a warehouse district.		消えていく魔女の死骸。結界も消滅し、周囲はもとの倉庫街に。
A Grief Seed remains. Sayaka picks it up and tosses it to Kyouko.		後に残されるグリーフシード。さやかはそれを拾い上げると、杏子へと投げ波す。
Sayaka:	You can have it. That's what you were after, right?	さやか「あげるよ。そいつが目当てなんでしょ?」
Kyouko:	Hey.	杏子「おい...」
Sayaka:	I don't want to owe you anything. This make us even, okay?	さやか「あんたに借りは作らないから。これでチャラ。いいわね」
Kyouko:	...	杏子「...」
Sayaka:	Let's go home, Madoka.	さやか「さあ、帰ろう。まどか」
Madoka:	Sayaka-chan...	まどか「さやかちゃん...」
Sayaka:	Something wrong? You're trembling.	さやか「なに震えてんのさ?もう大丈夫だってば」
Sayaka untransforms. Her steps are sluggish from exhaustion. Madoka rushes up to support her.		さやか、変身を解除。だが憔悴のあまりよろめく。慌てて支えるまどか。
Sayaka:	Sorry, I'm just a little tired...	さやか「あー、ごめん。ちょっと疲れちゃった...」
Madoka:	Don't push yourself. I've got you.	まどか「...無理しないで。掴まって」
Sayaka leans on Madoka's shoulder for support as they leave.		まどかの肩を借りながら、去っていくさやか。
Behind them, Kyouko clenches tightly the Grief Seed that Sayaka tossed to her.		その背中を、杏子は投げ渡されたグリーフシードを握りしめながら見送る。
Kyouko:	... That idiot...	杏子「...あのパカ...」

City - Panorama

City - Panorama		街の全景
The city at night. Rain begins to quietly fall.		夜の街に、いつしか雨が降り始める。

Bus Stop

Bus Stop		バス停
Bus service has ended for the night.		運行終了した深夜のバス停。
Sayaka and Madoka huddle on a bench together, getting some rest in the shelter.		屋根の下でベンチに腰掛け、雨宿りしながら休憩しているさやかとまどか。
Sayaka looks obviously haggard. Madoka can't bear seeing her like this.		明らかに憔悴しているさやかの様子を、見かねて話しかけるまどか。
Madoka:	Sayaka-chan... You shouldn't fight like that...	まどか「さやかちゃん...あんな戦い方、ないよ...」
Sayaka:	...	さやか「...」
Annoyed that Madoka keeps pointing out the obvious, Sayaka looks down, face rigid.		まどかにダメ出しされたことが気に障り、俯いたまま、やや表情を硬くするさやか。
Madoka doesn't get the hint. She remembers Sayaka's fight in Episode 7.		だがそれにまどかは気付かず、七話~冒頭までのさやかの戦いを回想する。
Just the image alone makes Madoka teary.		思い出しただけで涙が出てくるまどか。
Madoka:	You say it doesn't hurt, but you're lying... It hurts just watching you. You shouldn't be hurting yourself just because you can't feel it... You'll really hurt yourself like this one day.	まどか「痛くないなんて、嘘だよ...見てるだけでも、痛かったもん。感じないから痛くてもいいなんて、そんなの、駄目だよ...さやかちゃん、いつか本当に壊れちゃうよ」
Sayaka:	... I couldn't have won otherwise. I have no talent, after all.	さやか「...ああでもしなきゃ、勝てないんだよ。あたし、才能ないからさ」
Madoka:	Even if you fight like that and win, it's not going to help you out in the end...	まどか「あんなやり方で戦ってたら、勝てたとしても、さやかちゃんのためにならないよ...」
Those last words hit a nerve for Sayaka.		さやか、その一言が聞き流せず癇に障る。
Sayaka:	... And what would help me?	さやか「...あたしのためって、何よ?」
Sayaka asks in a muffled voice, thrusting her Soul Gem out for Madoka to see.		さやか、押し殺した声で問いながら、まどかに向けて自分のソウルジエムを突きつける。
Sayaka:	Now that I've been turned into this thing, how can anything help me?	さやか「こんな姿にされた後で、何があたしのためになるつてい、つの?」
Madoka shrinks back now that she notices how angry Sayaka is.		今さらながらさやかの怒りを察して、萎縮するまどか。
Madoka:	Sayaka-chan...	まどか「さやかちゃん...」
Sayaka:	I'm just a thing that's good for nothing but hunting Witches. I just pretend to be alive by dragging my corpse along on strings. What could anyone do to help a thing like me? There's no point even thinking about it.	さやか「今のあたしはね、魔女を殺すーーただそれだけしか意味のない石ころなのよ。死んだ身体を動かして生きてるフリをしてるだけ。そんなあたしのために、誰が?何をしてくれるっていうの?ない」
Madoka:	But I just... want you to be happy again, Sayaka-chan...	まどか「でもわたしは...どうすればさやかちゃんが幸せになれるかつて...」
Sayaka:	Why don't you fight them, then?	さやか「だったらあんたが戦ってよ!」
Sayaka says without thinking in the heat of the moment. Her direct words leave Madoka stunned.		逆上してつい言ってしまうさやか。あまりにも決定的な言葉に、凍りつくまどか。
Sayaka:	Kyubey told me. You've got more talent than anyone else, right? You could easily beat Witches without struggling like I do, right?	さやか「キユウべえから聞いたわよ。あんた、誰よりも才能あるんでしょ?あたしみたいな苦労しなくても、簡単に魔女をやっつけられるんでしょ!?」
Madoka:	I, that's not——	まどか「わたしはーー」
Madoka recalls what Kyubey has said in the past (Episode 3, Part A, P. 39)		まどかの脳裏をよぎる過去、のキユウベえの言葉(三話【Aパート】P. 39)

Kyubey:	You could become a much more powerful magical girl than Mami.	キユウべえ「まどかが魔法少女になれば、マミよりずっと強くなれるよ」

Sayaka:	If you want to do something for me, why don't you try and do what I've done? But you can't. Of course not. You can't just give up your humanity out of pity!	さやか「あたしのために何かしようっていうんなら、まずあたしと同じ立場になってみなさいよ!無理でしょ?当然だよね。ただの同情で人間やめられるわけないもんね!」
Madoka:	It's not pity. I...	まどか「同情なんて、そんな...」
Sayaka:	You could be all-powerful, but you just sit there and watch me suffer instead. Don't act like you know how I feel from the sidelines.	さやか「何でもできるくせに何もしないあんたの代わりに、あたしがこんな日に遭ってるの。それを棚に上げて知ったようなこと首わないで」
With those rash words said, Sayaka stands up to leave the bus stop.		さやか、激しい口調で言い捨ててバス停から立ち去ろうとする。
Madoka:	Sayaka-chan...	まどか「さやかちゃん...」
Sayaka:	Don't follow me.	さやか「ついてこないで!」
Sayaka yells at Madoka, who's trying to follow her.		追い縋ろうとするまどかを一喝するさやか。
Madoka stops, letting Sayaka run away alone in the rain.		まどかが身を竦ませている間に、さやかは雨の中に走り去る。
Madoka cannot even chase after her, and instead drowns in tears.		涙に暮れながら、それでも追いかけられないまどか。

Sayaka cries as she runs through the rain, overwhelmed by regret and self-loathing.		雨の小を走りながら、自己嫌悪に悔し泣きするさやか。
Sayaka:	I'm such an idiot! ... How could I say that to her? ... I'm beyond help now...	さやか「バカだよ、あたし...何てこと言ってんのよ...もう救いようがないよ...」
The Soul Gem in her hand turns darker and darker.		握リしめたグリーフシードが、黒く、黒く濁っていく。

Homura's Apartment

Homura's Apartment		ほむらのアパート
An old, wooden 6-tatami Japanese-style room. Dilapidated, devoid of warmth or comfort, not a cosmetic product to be seen.		古い木造和室の六畳間。何の調皮品も生活感もない廃屋のような部屋。
The walls and sliding doors are covered with patterns of city maps and magical circles.		その襖や壁に所狭しと市内の地図や魔法陣の図案が貼り付けられている。
Kyouko and Homura sit across from each other, with a full city map spread out on the kotatsu between them.		卓袱台の上に拡げられた市外全域図を挟んで座っている杏子とほむら。
The map is decorated neatly with pins and permanent marker.		地図にはピンやらマーヵーの書き込みがびっしりと施されている。
Homura:	The Walpurgisnacht should appear within this area... In order to place a defensive line that can respond to any possible attack pattern, we need to supresss two instances of Soul Pulse at the minimum, here and there.	ほむら「ワルプルギスの夜の出現予測は、この範囲...いずれのパターンにも対応できる防衛線を張るためには、最低でもここと、ここの2カ所の霊脈を押さえておく必要があるわ」
Kyouko is eating cup ramen as she follows Homura's explanation.		カップラーメンを食べながら、ほむらの説明を聞いている杏子。
Kyouko:	What are you basing that on?	杏子「この出現予測の根拠は何だい?」
Homura:	Statistics.	ほむら「統計よ」
Kyouko:	Statistics?	杏子「統計?」
Kyouko frowns with suspicion.		胡散臭そうに眉をひそめる杏子。
Kyouko:	I've never heard of the Walpurgis coming to this city before. So where are these statistics even coming from?	杏子「以前にもこの街にワルプルギスが來たなんて話は聞いてないよ。いったい何をどう統計したってのさ?」
Homura:	...	ほむら「...」
Homura remains silent. Kyouko stops slurping ramen with her chopsticks and sighs.		沈黙するほむら。ラーメンを啜る箸を止め、歎息する杏子。
Kyouko:	Neither of us is exactly the trustworthy type, but I don't think you have to be that secretive about it.	杏子「お瓦い、信用しろだなんて言える柄でもないけどさ。もうちょっと手の内を見せてくれたっていいんじゃない?」
Kyubey:	—— I'd like to know as well, Akemi Homura.	キユウベえ「ーーそれはぜひ僕からもお願いしたいね。暁美ほむら」
Kyubey injects itself into the conversation, appearing out of nowhere.		どこからともなく出現し、会話に割り込んでくるキユウベぇ。
Homura looks coldly at Kyubey.		冷ややかな眼差しでキユウべえを見据えるほむら。
Kyouko reshapes her Soul Gem into a spear and thrusts it at Kyubey.		杏子もまた、変身はせずにソウルジエムだけを槍に変形させ、キュゥベえに突きつける。
Kyouko:	How dare you show your face here after what happened..?	杏子「どの而下げて山てきやがった、テメェ...」
Kyubey:	My, my. I get the feeling I'm not welcome. And here I came all this way just to give you some rather important information.	キユウべえ「やれやれ、招かれざ客、ってわけかい? 今夜は君たちにとっても重要なはずの情報を報せにきたんだけどね」
Kyouko:	Huh?	杏子「ああ?」
Kyubey:	Miki Sayaka is depleting herself far faster than I expected. It's not just all the magic she's using. She's started to carry a curse within herself.	キユゥベえ「美樹さやかの消耗が予想以上に迷い。魔力を使、つだけでなく、彼女自身が呪いを生み始めた」
Kyouko:	And whose fault do you think that is..?	杏子「誰のせいだと思ってんのさ...」
Kyubey:	At this rate, it might become an issue before the Walpurgisnacht arrives. You'd best be on your guard.	キユウベえ「このままだと、ワルプルギスの夜が来るより先に厄介なことになるかもしれない。注意しておいたほうがいいよ」
Kyouko:	... What does that mean? What are you talking about?	杏子「...何だそりゃ? どういう意味だ?」
Kyubey:	Perhaps you should ask her instead of me.	キユウベえ「僕じゃなくて、彼女に訊いてみたらどうだい?」
Kyubey flashes a wicked smile as it stares at Homura.		意地悪く笑って、ほむらを見つめるキユウベえ。
Kyubey:	You already know the answer, don't you, Akemi Homura?	キユウベえ「君なら既に知っているんじゃないかな?暁美ほむら」
Homura:	...	ほむら「...」
Homura stares back with a face full of anger. Kyubey has no doubt now.		怒りの眼差しでキユウべえを見返すほむら。だが、その表情に疑問の気配はない。
Kyubey:	—— I thought so. I'd be most interested to hear where you obtained that information. Could you be——	キユウベえ「ーーやっぱりね。どこでその知識を手に入れたのか、僕はとても興味深い。君はーー」
Homura:	I've heard all I care to hear from you. Get out.	ほむら「聞くだけのことは聞いたわ。消えなさい」
Homura's words conceal a murderous rage. Kyubey shrugs and jumps out the window, dodging Kyouko's spear tip in the process.		殺意を秘めたほむらの言葉に、キユウべえは肩を竦め、するりと杏子の槍先をかわして窓から山出て行く。
Kyouko:	You're just going to let him go?	杏子「放っとくのかよ? あいつ」
Homura:	Killing that thing won't solve anything.	ほむら「あれを殺したところで何の解決にもならないわ」
Kyouko:	... Anyway, what's this issue he mentioned with Miki Sayaka?	杏子「...それよりも、美樹さやかだ。あいつの言ってた厄介事つてのは何なんだ?」
Homura has a rare unevenness about her.		ほむら、珍しく焦リを面に出す。
Homura:	Her Soul Gem has become too tainted. If it's not purified soon, the damage will be irreparable...	ほむら「彼女のソウルジエムは、穢れを溜め込みすぎたのよ。早く浄化しないと、取り返しのつかないことになる...」

School

School		学校
Madoka's class. Class is in session.		まどかたちのクラス。授業中の風景。
Saotome:	(The auxiliary verb "must" means that someone has to do something— an obligation of sorts. But "have to" has a different—)
Sayaka's seat is empty.		空つぽのさやかの席。
Madoka gazes at it with regret.		それを見つめながら、後悔に身を焦がすまどか。
Madoka:	(Voice Over) I... should've gone after her back then, but I...	まどかM 『あのとき...追いかけなきゃ、駄目だったのに...』
Remembering how powerless she was last night in their parting, Madoka almost starts crying.		前夜の雨の中での別れを思い出し、自分の無力さに泣きそうになる。

Dusk - City Park

Dusk - City Park		夕暮れの市民公園
A sidewalk next to a large expanse of grass in the park.		大きな敷地の緑地公園の遊歩道。
After school, Hitomi and Kyousuke take a walk and have a pleasant chat together.		放課後の恭介と仁美が連れ立って談笑しながら歩いている。
Kyousuke:	They only have old comics in the hospital library, but some turned out more interesting than I thought. Ones by Shotaro Ishinomori...	恭介「病院の本棚だとさ、古い漫画しか置いてなくて。でも思ったより面白いんだよ。石ノボ森章太郎とか」
Hitomi:	I'm not too familiar with his comics...	仁美「私、あまり漫画は詳しくなくて...」
Kyousuke:	You should start reading them. The library has a copy.	恭介「今度ぜひ読んでごらんよ。図書館にもあるから」
Hitomi walks slowly to match Kyousuke, who's still using crutches.		恭介の松葉杖の歩調に合わせて、ゆっくり歩く仁美。
Kyousuke:	——By the way, do you live in this direction? I don't think I've ever seen you go home this way...	恭介「ーーでもさ、志筑さんつて帰る方角はこっちなんだっけ?今まで、帰り道に見かけたことってないような...」
Hitomi:	You're right. To be honest, I live in exactly the opposite direction.	仁美「ええ。本当はぜんぜん逆方向ですわ」
Kyousuke:	Huh? ... So why did you walk this way today?	恭介「え? ...じゃあ今日は、どうして?」
Kyousuke looks puzzled. Hitomi has made up her mind.		戸惑う恭介に、意を決して切り出す仁美。
Hitomi:	Kamijou-kun, I have something I need to tell you.	仁美「上条くんに、お話ししたいことがありますの」

Sayaka's Apartment

Sayaka's Apartment		さやかのアパート
Doorstep. Madoka is talking with Sayaka's family.		玄関先。中にいるらしき、さやかの家族と話しているまどか。
Madoka:	Huh? ... She hasn't come home? Not since last night? ... Okay, um... I understand. Okay. Thank you...	まどか「えっ...帰つてないんですか?昨日から?そんな...はい、えっと...分かりました。はい、失礼します...」
Madoka leaves, disappointed, and starts running down the road.		門前を辞して、道に出てから走り出すまどか。
Madoka:	(Voice Over) Sayaka-chan... I need to find her!	まどかM『さやかちゃん...探さなきゃ!』

Dusk - City Park

Dusk - City Park		夕暮れの市民公園
Hitomi confesses at a forest trail. Kyousuke is embarrassed, puzzled, and a little surprised.		森の小道で告白する仁美。驚き戸惑いつつも照れる恭介。
Sayaka spies on them from a distance, hiding behind a tree.		そんなこ人の様子を、遠くの木陰からさやかが見守っている。
She can't hear Kyousuke and Hitomi, but the happy atmosphere is obvious to see.		恭介と仁美の声は聞こえないが、明らかに良い雰囲気。
Kyousuke nods shyly. Hitomi reaches out to hold his hand with a smile.		やがて恭介ははにかみながらも頷き、仁美も笑顔で恭介の手を握る。
Witnessing all this, Sayaka leaves in silence.		それを見届けて、無言のままその場を去るさやか。

Witch's Barrier (Back Alley)

Witch's Barrier (Back Alley)		魔女の結界(街の裏路地)
Sayaka conducts today's Witch hunt with wild frenzy, pouring all her anger into it. She strikes a critical blow.		怒りを込めて荒々しく魔女狩りに臨むさやか。今まさにとどめの一撃。
Sayaka:	Aaaah!!	さやか「つおおおおツ!!」
Familiar:	Giyaaaa!	使い魔「ギヤアアアアッ!」
Sayaka slices the Familiar, killing it.		さやかの剣に斬られ、絶命する使い魔。
The Barrier dissipates. A city back alley at night returns to view.		そして結界は消滅し、もとの夜の街の裏路地の景色に戻る。
Since it's only a Familiar, it didn't drop a Grief Seed.		やはり使い魔だったせいで、グリーフシードは残さない。
Exhausted, breathing heavily, Sayaka untransforms.		疲弊し、荒い息をつきながら、変身を解除するさやか。
She crouches down from fatigue. Her Soul Gem has turned completely dark.		疲労のあまりうずくまる。すっかり黒ずんだソウルジエム。
Footsteps behind her. Sayaka turns around suddenly to find Homura standing before her.		その背後に足音。はっとしてさやかが振り向くと、ほむらが佇んでいる。
Homura:	... You can't afford to waste any more magic. Focus on the Witches, not Familiars.	ほむら「...どうして分からないの?ただでさえ余裕がないのなら、魔女だけを狙って仕留めなきゃ駄目なのよ」
Sayaka:	... Shut up... Mind your own business...	さやか「...うるさい...大きなお世話よ...」
Homura:	Your Soul Gem is already at its limit. You need to purify it right now. It'll be fatal.	ほむら「もうソウルジエムも限界のはずよ。今すぐ浄化しないと、致命的なことになる」
Homura takes a Grief Seed out of her pocket, tosses it at Sayaka's feet.		ほむら、懐から取り出したグリーフシードを、うずくまるさやかの足下に放る。
Homura:	Use this.	ほむら「使いなさい」
Sayaka:	... What are you planning this time?	さやか「...今度は、何を企んでるのさ?」
Homura:	Don't be a fool.	ほむら「いい加減にして!」
Unusually revealing for Homura, she shouts in anger.		珍しく感情を露わにして怒鳴るほむら。
Homura:	You're in no position to be questioning others right now. Or does being helped by someone else bother you that much!?	ほむら「あなた、もう他人を疑ってる場合じゃないでしょ!そんなに私に助けられるのが厭なの!?」
Sayaka:	I won't be like the rest of you magical girls... That's what I've decided...	さやか「あんたたちとは違う魔法少女になる...あたしは、そう決めたんだ...」
Sayaka speaks calmly, not at all baited by Homura's tone.		ほむらの語気には釣られず、静かに語るさやか。
Sayaka:	I won't associate with people who use or abandon others... I don't need any reward for my work... I'll never use magic for my own benefit.	さやか「誰かを見捨てるのも、利用するのも...そんなことをする奴らとつるむのも厭だ...見返りなんでいらない。あたしだけば絶対に、自分のために魔法を使ったりしない」
Homura:	You're going to die.	ほむら「あなた、死ぬわよ」
Homura says plainly. Sayaka shrugs, with a creepy grin on her face, full of self-loathing.		きっぱりと言い切るほむら。だがさやかは自嘲気味の冷たい笑みを浮かべる。
Sayaka:	Only when I can no longer kill any more Witches. And then I won't be any use anymore, right? That's fine. Someone like me has no other place in this world.	さやか「あたしが死ぬとしたら、それは魔女を殺せなくなったときだけだよ。それってつまり、用済みってことじゃん? なら、いいんだよ。魔女に勝てないあたしなんて、この世界にはいらないよ」
Homura:	...	ほむら「...ツ」
Those stubborn, masochistic words make Homura clench her hands in frustration.		さやかの頑固な自虐ぶりに、歯噛みするほむら。
Homura:	Why are you doing this? I only want to help you. Why won't you believe me?	ほむら「...ねえ、どうして?あなたを助けたいだけなの。どうして信じてくれないの?」
Sayaka:	I don't know... I just get the feeling that you're a liar.	さやか「どうしてかなあ...ただなんとなく、分かつちゃうんだよね。あんたが嘘つきだってこと」
Sayaka says in anticipation of Homura's response, calmly and without a hint of condemnation.		さやかは責めるでもなく穏やかに、ほむらを見据えて語る。
Sayaka:	You have the eyes of someone who's given up on everything. You're always saying empty words. This is no different. You say you want to help me, but I know that's not what you're really thinking. You can't fool me like that.	さやか「あんた、何もかも諦めた目をしてる。いつも空っぽの言葉を喋ってる。今だってそうさ。あたしのためとか言いながら、本当は全然別のこと考えてるでしょ?ごまかしきれるもんじゃないよ。そういうの」
Homura:	...	ほむら「...」
Homura looks down. Slowly, her anger turns into a frenzy.		俯くほむら。その表情がゆっくりと、本物の逆上に染まっていく。
Homura:	... And that's how you keep making Madoka suffer.	ほむら「...そうやって、あなたはますますまどかを苦しめるのね?」
Sayaka reacts with doubt to Homura's words.		ほむらの言葉に、怪訝な顔になるさやか。
Sayaka:	Madoka... This has nothing to do with her.	さやか「まどかは...関係ないでしょ」
Homura:	No. Everything I do is for her.	ほむら「いいえ。何もかもあの子のためよ」
Homura transforms. Her resentment has accumulated for far too long. She has had enough.		ほむら、溜まりに溜まった恨み節を滲ませながら、魔法少女に変身。
Homura:	You're pretty sharp... Yes, you're right. I don't want to save you. I just don't want Madoka to see you destroy yourself...	ほむら「あなたって、鋭いわ。...ええ、図星ょ。私はあなたを助けたいわけじゃない。あなたが破滅していく姿をまどかに見せたくないだけ...」
Sayaka can onnly watch as Homura draws closer, murder in her eyes.		本気の殺意でさやかを見据え、詰め寄るほむら。
Homura:	If you refuse me here, you'll die either way. And if you keep making Madoka suffer, then I might as well kill you myself, here and now, Miki Sayaka.	ほむら「ここで私を拒むなら、どうせあなたは死ぬしかない。これ以上、まどかを悲しませるくらいなら、いっそ私がこの手で、今すぐ殺してあげるわ。美樹さやか」
Sayaka:	...	さやか「...ツ」
Awed by how menacing Homura looks, Sayaka is too paralyzed to defend herself.		ほむらの剣幕に気圧され、咄嗟に身構えることもできないさやか。
Immediately, Kyouko rushes up and grabs Homura from behind. Surprisingly, Kyouko isn't eating anything like usual.		だがその直後、駆けつけた杏子が背後からほむらを羽交い締めにする。珍しく何も食べていない杏子。
Sayaka can only look on in surprise as Kyouko berates her.		呆気に取られるさやかに向けて、叱陀する杏子。
Kyouko:	Hey! Hurry up and get out of here!	杏子「何やってる!?さっさと逃げろ!」
Sayaka:	...	さやか「...ツ」
After a little hesitation, Sayaka finally realizes how unfavorable the situation is for her. She's too exhausted to do anything regardless. She runs off without saying any more.		やや逡巡するさやかだが、どのみち疲弊しきった自分にとって不利な展開なのは間違いない。何も言わずにその場を駆け去る。
Kyouko and Homura remains. Kyouko is choking with anger at Homura.		後に残される杏子とほむら。杏子は怒気も露わにほむらを詰る。
Kyouko:	What is wrong with you? Weren't you trying to save her?	杏子「正気かテメエは!?アイツを助けるんじゃなかったのかよ!」
Homura:	Let me go...	ほむら「放して...ツ」
Homura looks outraged, but Kyouko realizes the position leaves her at advantage.		怒りに任せて暴れるほむらだが、体勢的に杏子が有利。
Kyouko laughs tauntingly, feeling comfortable.		余裕を見せて不敵に笑う杏子。
Kyouko:	I see... You can't use that weird technique of yours when I'm holding onto you like this.	杏子「フン...なるほどね。こんな風にとつつかまったままだと、あの妙な技も使えないわけか」
Homura clicks her tongue as if to give up. Instead, she takes out a grenade and pulls the pin. Kyouko can only look up in awe.		舌打ちし、抵抗を諦めるほむら。代わりに手榴弾を取り出して、ピンを抜く。さすがの杏子もこれには仰天。
Kyouko:	Huh——!?	杏子「なツーー!?」
Are you trying to kill yourself? Kyouko dives back away from Homura in a hurry. Homura takes the opportunity to instantly teleport away.		すわ自爆する気か、と慌ててほむらから離れる杏子。その隙にほむらは瞬間移動。
The grenade explodes. Kyouko manages to escape to a safe radius in time and crouch down. Homura is gone by the time that smoke has cleared.		手榴弾が爆発。安全圏に逃れて身を伏せていた杏子は事なきを得る。が、爆煙が消えた後にはほむらの姿はない。
Kyouko:	... Damn it!	杏子「...くそッ!」
Kyouko pounds the ground in frustration.		怒りに任せて地面を殴る杏子。

Part B

Late Night Train

Late Night Train		深夜の電車
A midnight train heading downtown. With all the commuters heading outbound, almost no passengers remain.		真夜中の上り電車。帰宅客とは逆方向なので乗客はほぼ皆無。
Sayaka slumps down in her seat, utterly exhausted.		疲れ切ったさやかが、ぐったりしながらシートに座っている。
Only two other passengers share her car. Some distance away from Sayaka, the drunk hosts are making quite a scene.		同じ車両にはあと二人だけ客が。さやかとは離れた席で、二人組のホストらしき男が酔った勢いで騒いでいる。
Host A:	No way, man. You can't let that dumb slut make any excuses. You gotta get hold of all the money she makes. Women are idiots, y'know? The moment they get some money they'll blow it all on stupid shit.	ホストA「言い訳とかさせちゃ駄目っしょ。稼いできたぶんはきっちり全額貢がせないと。女ってバカだからさあ、ちょっと金持たせとくとすぐクツダラネェことに使っちまうからね」
Host B:	Yeah, seriously, man. You can't treat those bitches like real people. Gotta train them like the dogs they are. My bitch gets off on that, you know. You just gotta threaten to smack 'em one and they'll shut right up.	ホストB「いやほんと、女は人間扱いしちゃ駄目っすね。犬か何かだと思って採けないとね。あいつもそれで喜んでるわけだし。顔殴るぞって脅せばまず大抵は黙りますもんね」
Sayaka:	...	さやか「...」
Sayaka listens to their conversation absentmindedly.		ホストニ人の会話を、虚ろな眼差しで聞いているさやか。
Host A:	But give 'em an inch and they'll be all over you, whining about getting married and shit. YOu just can't let up on 'em. Like a carabret girl like her's gonna make the same kinda money in ten years. Bitch needs to learn her place, right?	ホストA 「ちょっと油断するとすぐ付け上がって籍入れたいとか言い出すからさあ、甘やかすの禁物よ? ったく、テメエみてえなキャバ嬢が10年後も同じ額稼げるのかつてえの。身の程弁えろってんだよ。ねえ」
Host B:	And man, don't get me started on what a pain it is to dump 'em. You're damn good at that, Shou-san. I'm really jealous. Dude, I gotta learn from——	ホストB 「捨てるときがさあ、ほんとウザイっすよね。そのへんショウさん上手いから羨ましいっすよ。俺も見習わないとーーん?」
The hosts suddenly realize a girl, Sayaka, has been standing silently in front of them.		ふとホストたちが気付くと、彼らの席の前にさやかが無言で佇んでいる。
They looks at her dark, vacant eyes with suspicion.		暗く虚ろなその眼差しに、怪訝な顔をするホストたち。
Sayaka:	Hey, tell me more about her.	さやか「ねえ、その人のこと聞かせてよ」
Host A:	Huh?	ホストA「はい?」
Sayaka:	The woman you were just talking about. Tell me more about her.	さやか「いまあんたたちが話してた女の人のこと、もっとよく聞かせてよ。本当の気持ちを教えてよ」
Host B:	... You in middle school, kid? You shouldn't be out so late at night.	ホストB「...お嬢ちゃん中学生?夜遊びは良くないゾ」
Paying no attention to what he has to say, Sayaka keeps staring at them with chilling eyes.		さやか、相手の言葉を意に介さず、ぞっとするほど冷たく慮ろな目で続ける。
Sayaka:	That woman probably loves you and tries her hardest to make you happy. You knew that, right? And yet you're comparing her to a dog? Are you not even going to thank her? You're just going to get rid of her when she's no longer useful?	さやか「その人、あんたのことが大事で、喜ばせたくて、頑張ってたんでしょ?あんたにもそれが分かってたんでしょ?なのに犬と同じなの? ありがとうって言わないの? 役にぷたなきゃ給てちゃうの?」
Host A:	What's her problem? You know this kid?	ホストA「何コイツ、知り合い?」
Host B:	N-No...	ホストB「いや...」
The hosts are at a loss. On the other hand, Sayaka starts to lose her composure, anger and murder in her voice.		途方に暮れるホストたち。一方で、さやかの口調はじわじわと押し殺した怒りに染まっていく。
Sayaka:	I wonder if this world is even worth fighting for? What have I been fighting for? Tell me... Tell me right this second...	さやか「ねえ、この世界って守る価値あるの? あたし何のために戦ってたの?教えてよ...今すぐにあんたが教えてよ...」
Sayaka's eyes gain an eerie shine. The creepiness of it all causes them flinch back instinctively.		妖しく光るさやかの瞳。その不気味さに、わけも分からず竦み上がるホストたち。
Sayaka:	If you don't... Who knows what will happen?	さやか「でないとあたし...たぶん、どうにかなっちゃうよ?」
Wicked magic overflows from Sayaka's body. Her Soul Gem is now pitch black.		さやかの身体から溢れ出る邪悪な魔力。ソウルジエムが真っ黒に染まっていく。
An empty train car in the midnight rain.		空っぽの車両のまま、夜をひた走る電車。

Night - Park

Night - Park		夜の公園
Madoka has been walking all over the city searching for Sayaka.		さやかを探して街中を歩き回ったまどか。
Tired, Madoka sits down on a park bench to take a break.		疲れ果て、公園のベンチで休憩している。
Madoka:	Sayaka-chan... where are you..?	まどか「さやかちゃん...どこ...?」
Madoka suddenly feels someone watching her and looks up.		ふと視線を感じて顔を上げるまどか。
Kyubey has been watching her under a street lamp some distance away.		やや離れた街灯の光の下で、キユウベえがこちらを覗っている。
Kyubey:	Do you hate me too?	キユウベえ「君も僕のことを恨んでいるのかな?」
Madoka:	If I did, would you turn Sayaka-chan back?	まどか「あなたを恨んだら、さやかちゃんを元に戻してくれる?」
Kyubey:	I can't. That's beyond my power.	キユウベえ「無理だ。それは僕の力の及ぶことじゃない」
Madoka looks downcast.		再び俯くまどか。
He figures that he hasn't been rejected outright, so Kyubey comes closer and sits on the bench next to her.		キユウべえは拒絶されていない雰囲気を察して、近寄ってきてベンチの隣に腰掛ける。
Madoka:	You... once said I could become a incredibly strong magical girl.... Was that true?	まどか「ねえ...いつか言ってた、わたしが凄い魔法少女になれるって話。あれは...本当なの?」
Kyubey:	Incredible doesn't begin to describe it. You'd become a magical girl of unimaginable power. Probably the strongest in the world.	キユウベえ「凄い、なんでいうのは控えめな表現だ。君は途方もない魔法少女になるよ。おそらくこの世界で最強の」
Madoka asks her next question after some hesitation.		まどか、やや躊躇してから、次の質問をぶつける。
Madoka:	If I had accepted your offer, would Sayaka-chan still have become a magical girl...?	まどか「わたしが引き受けてたら、さやかちゃんは魔法少女にならずに済んだのかな...」
Kyubey:	Sayaka made her own wish come true. In the end, you had nothing to do with her decision.	キユウベえ「さやかは彼女の願いを遂げた。その点についてまどかは何の関係もない」
After those words, Kyubey turns away before continuing.		フォローするかのようにそう言った後で、キュゥべえは目を逸らし、続ける。
Kyubey:	Even if she perseveres... you alone can take on ten of Sayaka with ease.	キユウべえ「でも、その後の頑張りについては...まどか一人でさやか10人ぶん以上の働きが出来ただろうね」
Madoka:	...	まどか「...」
Madoka falls silent as she realizes the weight of the responsibility she ultimately carries.		結局のところ責任を感じてしまい、黙り込むまどか。
Madoka:	... Why me?	まどか「...どうして、わたしなんかが?」
Kyubey:	I don't know either. To put it bluntly, your latent power is on a level beyond what should be theoretically possible... I'd like to know just as much as you do.	キユウべえ「僕にも分からない。はっきり言って、君が秘めている潜在力は、理論的には有り得ない規模のものだ。...誰かに説明して欲しいのは僕だって一緒さ」
Madoka:	I see.	まどか「そうなの?」
Kyubey:	If you were to release your power, you wouldn't just unleash a miracle, you might be able to bend the very laws of the universe itself... I can't even imagine why you alone have so much potential resting within you.	キユウベえ「君が力を解放すれば、奇跡を起こすどころか、宇宙の法則をねじ曲げることだって可能だろう。なぜ君一人だけがそれほどのうを備えているのか...理由は未だに分からない」
Madoka:	I... always thought there was nothing special about me...	まどか「わたしは...自分なんて、何の取り柄もない人間だと思ってた...」
Madoka pauses briefly, a little confused herself.		内心の戸惑いを、訥々と口にするまどか。
Madoka:	That I'd just kind of stumble through life, never being of any use or help to anyone... It was frustrating, and it made me feel really lonely, but I thought I couldn't do anything about it.	まどか「ずっとこのまま、誰のためになることも、何の役に立つこともできずに、最後までただ何となく生きていくだけなのかなって...それは悔しいし、寂しいことだけど、でも仕方ないよねって、思ってたの」
Kyubey:	Looks like reality turned out to be quite different. ——Madoka, if you wish for it, you might even become an all-powerful god.	キユウベえ「現実は随分と違ったね。ーーまどか、君は望むなら万能の神にだってなれるかもしれないよ」
Madoka, wavering over the significant decision she's about to make, asks Kyubey one final question.		まどか、重大な決断を前にしてやや怯えながら、最後の問いをキユウベえに投げる。
Madoka:	... Would I... be able to do what you couldn't?	まどか「...わたしなら...キユウベえに出来ないことでも、わたしなら出来るのかな」
Kyubey:	Like what?	キユウべえ「というと?」
Madoka:	If I made a contract with you, could I return Sayaka-chan to normal?	まどか「わたしがあなたと契約したら、さやかちゃんの身体を元に戻せる?」
Kyubey:	That would be child's play for you.	キユウベえ「その程度、きっと造作もないだろうね」
Kyubey smiles in confirmation.		にこやかに断言するキユウベえ。
Kyubey:	Is the wish worth trading away your very soul?	キユウベえ「その願いは君にとって、魂を差し出すに起るものかい?」
Madoka:	If it means I can help Sayaka-chan... I'll do it. I'll become a——	まどか「さやかちゃんのためなら...いいよ。わたし、魔法少女にーー」
Just before Madoka finishes, Kyubey's body is punctured with 15 bullet holes simultaneously, reduced to strange meatloaf.		まどかが言い終わる直前に、キユウベえの身体は銃弾15発を同時に浴びて、原型のない肉塊に成り果てる。
Madoka gasps in horror.		恐怖に息を呑むまどか。
Walking out of the darkness is magical girl costumed Homura. She discards the emptied gun. (She used time stop to attack Kyubey)		闇の中から歩み出る魔法少女スタイルのほむら。弾の切れた拳銃を投げ捨てる。(キユウベえを殺したのは時間停止攻撃です)
Homura is still out of breath from the kill. The intimidating look frightens Madoka.		怒りと殺意の名残で荒い息を吐いているほむら。その剣幕に怯えるまどか。
Madoka:	H-How could you..!? You didn't have to kill him...!	まどか「ひ、ひどいよ...なにも殺さなくても...」
Homura:	You——	ほむら「あなたはーー」
Homura is at her limit, borderline hysterical, her words mumbled and hard to understand. Mortified, angry, and soaked with tears, she draws closer to Madoka.		いい加減、誰にも理解されない苛立ちに限界ギリギリのほむら。怒りと悔しさに涙さえ滲ませながら、まどかに詰め寄る。
Homura:	Why are you always sacrificing yourself...	ほむら「なんであなたは、いつだって、そうやって自分を犠牲にして...」
Madoka:	...Eh?	まどか「...え?」
Homura:	Stop putting yourself down... saying that you can't help anyone or that you're helpless! Think about all the people who care about you!	ほむら「役に立たないとか、意味がないとか...勝手に自分を粗末にしないで! あなたを大切に思う人のことも考えて!?」
Homura clutches Madoka while throwing a tantrum. However, Madoka is completely bewildered, not sure what to make of all this.		癇癪をおこしてまどかに掴みかかるほむら。だがまどかは何が何やら分からず途方に暮れる一方。
Homura:	Stop it! Why don't you understand that there are people who would grieve if you died? Why don't you consider the people who try so hard to protect you!?	ほむら「いい加減にしてよ!あなたを失えば、それを悲しむ人がいるって、どうしてそれに気付かないの?あなたを守ろうとしてた人はどうなるの!?」
Madoka:	Homura-chan...	まどか「ほむらちゃん...」
Unable to understand the situation, Madoka can only grasp the seriousness of Homura's demands.		事情は分からないものの、ほむらの糾弾の切実さだけ感じ取るまどか。
Suddenly, the dream from the beginning of Episode 1 floats dimly back into her memory.		ふいに、一話冒頭で見た夢の内容が、朧気ながら脳裏に蘇る。
Madoka:	...Have we...	まどか「...わたしたちは、どこかで...」
Homura:	...!	ほむら「...ッ!」
Madoka:	Have we—— met somewhere before?	まどか「どこかで、会ったことーーあるの? わたしと」
Homura:	We...	ほむら「それは...」
Homura fumbles for words to explain.		説明しようとして、言葉に詰まるほむら。
She lets go of Madoka's scruff, kneeling on the spot.		まどかの襟首を掴んでいた手を放し、その場に膝をつく。
Homura cries, trembling.		そのまま肩を震わせて泣くほむら。
Madoka, realizing she has been watching Homura in confusion for a while now, decides that Sayaka remains her top priority.		まどか、しばらく困惑してほむらを見守るものの、今はさやかを探す方が先決だと思い出す。
Madoka:	... I'm sorry. I need to look for Sayaka-chan...	まどか「...ごめん。わたし、さやかちゃんを採さないと...」
Homura:	... Wait... It's too late for Miki Sayaka...	ほむら「...待って...美樹さやかは、もう...」
Madoka:	I'm sorry.	まどか「ごめんね」
Madoka flees from the scene. Too weak to even stand up, let alone give chase, Homura can only drown in tears.		逃げるようにその場を去るまどか。ほむらは追おうにも涙に暮れて立ち上がる力がない。
Homura:	Wait, Madoka!	ほむら「待ってッ、まどか!」
Homura cries alone.		一人取り残され、泣き崩れるほむら。
Behind her appears the shadow of a new Kyubey.		その背後に現れる新たなキユウベえの影。
Kyubey:	You knew that was pointless, but you did it anyway... You just don't learn, do you?	キユウベえ「無駄なことだって知ってるくせに...懲りないんだなあ、君も」
Homura turns around, filled with hatred. Kyubey appears, looking nonchalant, not a piece missing from its body.		憎しみの眼差しで振り向くほむら。平然と現れる五体満足の新キユウべえ。
Kyubey:	I have plenty of spares, but you can't just go around destroying them for no reason. It's a waste.	キュゥベえ「代わりはいくらでもいるけど、無意味に潰されるのは困るんだよね。勿体ないじゃないか」
The new Kyubey crouches next to the body of the old one and begins wolfing it down ferociously.		新キユウべえは旧キユウベえの死骸の上に屈み込むと、ガツガツと物凄い勢いで喰い貪りはじめる。
The corpose of the old Kyubey quickly disappears without a trace. The new Kyubey is satisfied by the full stomach.		あっという間に跡形もなく消滅する旧キユウべえの死骸。新キユウベえ、満腹になってゲツブしながら、
Kyubey:	That's the second time you've killed me, but I'm starting to understand how you fight. That was time-manipulation magic, wasn't it?	キユウベえ「君に殺されたのはこれで二度目だけれど、おかげで攻撃の特性も見えてきた。時間操作の魔術だろう?さつきのは」
Homura:	...	ほむら「...」
No answer from Homura, but Kyubey considers that an affirmation.		答えないほむら。それをキユウべえは肯定と受け取る。
Kyubey:	Thought so. I had a feeling that was the case... You're not from this timeline, are you?	キユウベえ「やっぱりね。何となく察しはついてたけれど...君はこの時間紬の人間じゃないね?」
A lucky guess, but Homura decides to skip the retort.		図星を突かれるも、ほむらは怯むことなく言い返す。
Homura:	... I know all about who you are and what you're planning.	ほむら「...お前の正体も、企みも、私はすべて知ってるわ」
Kyubey:	I see. That's why you're trying so hard to stop me... Are you that determined to change Kaname Madoka's fate?	キユウべえ「なるほどね。だからこんなにしつこく僕の邪魔をするわけだ。...そうまでして鹿目まどかの運命を変えたいのかい?」
Homura:	Yes. Mark my words, you will not have your way. Kyubey——	ほむら「ええ。絶対にお前の思い通りにはさせない。キユウベえーー」
Homura says in a hushed tone as she eyes Kyubey with fury.		押し殺した声で言いながら、怒りも露わにキユウベえを睨むほむら。
Homura:	——Or should I say, Incubator?	ほむら「ーーいいえ、インキュベーター」
Kyubey grins wickedly from hearing its true name called.		真の名前で呼ばれて、ニヤリと邪悪に笑うキユウベえ。

Midnight - Train Station

Midnight - Train Station		真夜中の駅
The lights are out at the station now that the last train has passed.		終電を過ぎて、明かりの消えたプラットフォーム。
Sayaka sits on a bench alone.		誰もいないベンチに腰掛けているさやか。
Kyouko drops by, not eating snacks like usual, and breathes a sigh of relief when she recognize Sayaka's figure.		そこにやって来る杏子。いつもの歩き食いはなし。さやかの姿を認め、安堵の溜息をつく。
Kyouko:	... I finally found you.	杏子「...やっと見つけた」
Sayaka:	...	さやか「...」
Kyouko sits down beside Sayaka, opens up a bag of potato chips she has with her, and starts eating.		さやかの隣に腰掛けて、持参していたポテトチップスの袋を開け、食べ始める杏子。
Kyouko:	Just how long are you gonna keep this up?	杏子「あんたさ、いつまで強情張ってるわけ?」
Sayaka:	... I'm sorry for wasting your time.	さやか「...悪いね、手間かけさせちゃって」
Kyouko feels somewhat let down by her surprising honesty.		意外すぎる素直さに、やや鼻白む杏子。
Kyouko:	Huh? That doesn't sound like you.	杏子「なんだよ、らしくないじゃんかよ」
Sayaka:	Yeah. That's because I don't really care anymore.	さやか「つん、別にもう、どうでも良くなっちゃったからね」
Sayaka's eyes are vacant. Kyouko grows increasingly anxious when she realizes this.		どこまでも虚ろなさやかの目。それに気付いて、次第に不安を募らせる杏子。
Sayaka:	I can't even remember what I thought was so important, so worth protecting... None of it makes any sense anymore.	さやか「結局あたしは、いったい何が大切で、何を守ろうとしてたのか...もう何もかも、わけ分かんなくなっちゃった...」
Kyouko:	Hey...	杏子「おい...」
Sayaka moves a hand from her lap. The Soul Gem mark on her palm can be seen. It has transformed into a stained darkness, completely indistinguishable from a Grief Seed.		膝の上で握りしめていた手を開くさやか。掌には彼女のソウルジエムが絞っている。真っ黒く染まり歪に変形したそれは、もはやグリーフシードと見分けがつかない。
Kyouko:	...!!	杏子「...ッ!!」
Sayaka:	The balance of hope and despair in the world cancels out to zero.. You told me that once, didn't you? ... Now I finally understand what you meant.	さやか「希望と絶望のバランスは差し引きゼロだって...いつだったか、あんたが言ってたよね...今ならそれ、よく分かるよ」
Her jet black Soul Gem pulses maliciously in her hand. The Grief Seed is on the verge of hatching.		さやかの手の中で、禍々しく脈動する漆黒のソウルジエム。まさにそれは孵化寸前のグリーフシードである。
Sayaka:	Sure, I managed to save a few people, but in exchange, hatred and jealousy filled my heart. I even hurt my best friend...	さやか「確かにあたしは、何人か救いもしたけどさ。だけどそのぶん、心には恨みや妬みが溜まって、いちばん大切な友達さえ傷つけて...」
Kyouko:	Sayaka, you're not——	杏子「さやか、あんたまさかーー」
Sayaka:	Whenever we pray for someone's happiness, someone else must be cursed in exchange... Turns out that's how we magical girls work.	さやか「誰かの幸せを祈ったぶん、他の誰かを呪わずにはいられない...あたしたち魔法少女って、そういう仕組みだったんだね」
Her eyes turn hazy, and a single tear drops down.		虚ろに濁ったさやかの瞳から、一滴の涙が流れ落ちる。
Sayaka:	I really was an idiot.	さやか「あたしって、ほんとバカ...」
The Grief Seed cracks and hatches. A Witch appears.		ひび割れ、孵化するグリーフシード。現れ出る魔女の姿。
Kyouko screams as she's hit by a torrent of magical energy.		杏子、放出される魔力の奔流を浴びながら絶叫する。
Kyouko:	Sayaka!!	杏子「さやかああツ!!」

Night - City

Night - City		夜の街
Midnight. On a pillar overlooking the rooftop, Kyubey senses a wave of magic from Sayaka's witch transformation and looks towards the station.		深夜の町並みを見下ろすピルの上。さやかが魔女化した魔力の波動を感じ取り、駅の方角を眺めているキユウベぇ。
Kyubey:	In this world, women who have yet to fully grow are called "girls," right?	キユウベえ「この国では、成長途中の女のことを少女って呼ぷんだろう?」
Kyubey flashes a smile that reveals its true nature.		キユウべえ、本性を露わにしたインキュベーターの笑顔で。
Kyubey:	In that case, it only makes sense that you, who will one day grow into Witches, should be called "magical girls."	キユウべえ「だったら、やがて魔女になる君たちのことは魔法少女と呼ぶべきだよね」
