The Homo magica most simply look like young girls. They are humanoids with feminine hairstyles and clothing, not dissimilar from ones donned by Homo sapiens Magical Girls shown in other Madoka Magica media, but androgynous bodies. They are also significantly shorter than Kosane, an adult Homo sapiens, and have childlike, neotenous proportions. Their eyes have been likened to compound eyes of insects due to countless highlights.

In Null Magical Girl, a species consisting entirely of Magical Girls evolved from Homo sapiens, called Homo magica. Although they possess Soul Gems, they don't make contracts with Kyubey[1], as they have driven his kind to near-extinction[2]. Instead, they reproduce (and likely form souls) using clay and magic spells, though the process is not explained[3]. They also have immense control over Witchification, originally explained as a way to avoid it altogether[4], though later they are stated to use Witches as weapons through Soul Gem bombs[5] They appear to not be bound by the 100 meter limit of distance between the Soul Gem and the body[6]. Approximately 800 000 years after year 2021, there existed Magical Girls of other species evolved from Homo sapiens that bore much more similarity to their progenitors, though how they became Magical Girls is uncertain. A Kyubey who time-travelled from the past into this period attempted to find suitable non-Human species he could turn into Magical girls, but failed. Both non-Homo magica humans and non-human species became extinct soon after, due to continued onslaught by the hand of Homo magica.
