Yotsugi Ononoki (斧乃木 余接, Ononoki Yotsugi) is a character from the Monogatari franchise, originally a light novel series by Nisio Isin. The series received an anime by Studio Shaft that was directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, giving it a tangential connection to the Madoka Magica franchise.

The Monogatari series first crossed over with Madoka Magica as part of the "Madogatari" event. The crossover was limited to official merchandise and artwork.

In 2026, Yotsugi was made into a playable character in Puella Magi Madoka Magica Magia Exedra, as part of a Madogatari event.

Summary

Side Story

Yotsugi Ononoki, a Magical Girl who cannot remember her wish or why she feels compelled to defeat Witches, is sitting alone eating ice cream and ruminating on her hazy memories. A stranger stares at her intensely, and Yotsugi eventually offers her a single serving. The stranger introduces herself as Felicia Mitsuki, and this marks the beginning of their acquaintance.

Some time later, after Yotsugi has been spending time with Felicia, Iroha and the other members of Mikazuki Villa arrive to claim Felicia as their companion. Yotsugi's own associates, Shinobu and Mayoi, also appear, and when it comes time for Yotsugi to leave, Felicia looks so sad that Yotsugi invites her to join them instead. Both teams end up heading to Mikazuki Villa for dinner.

On the way there, Felicia asks Yotsugi what she likes to eat, and Yotsugi admits a preference for expensive cup ice cream. Felicia then awkwardly asks if Yotsugi's face is always stuck like that, and Yotsugi confirms that it is.

After arriving at the villa, Felicia eagerly tries to get Yotsugi to play video games, serves her extra portions of bang bang chicken, and challenges her to a pillow fight before bed. Feeling overwhelmed, Yotsugi excuses herself to take a bath, leaving Felicia disappointed.

Later, after Yotsugi finishes bathing, Felicia apologizes for being clingy, explaining that Yachiyo and the others had pulled her aside to warn her. Felicia then confesses that she had been trying to make Yotsugi smile, assuming Yotsugi had lost her parents like Felicia did. She had shared games and food in hopes of seeing a smile.

Yotsugi clarifies that there is no tragic backstory, as her emotions simply do not show on her face, but she does feel them. She admits that playing the game was fun and the food was not bad. Felicia is overjoyed and runs off to brag to everyone, ignoring Yotsugi's attempt to stop her.

Shinobu and Mayoi, who had been eavesdropping, tease Yotsugi for finding Felicia cute. Yotsugi concedes that while Felicia is exhausting, the sight of her face lighting up from a drop of attention is not unpleasant. She admits that Felicia is a cute kid, and she gains newfound respect for all older sisters in the world.
