Rumor of the Friendship Ending Staircase (Anime)
Hey, have you heard that rumor about the Friendship Ending Staircase? It’s at Kamihama University Affiliated, on the north side of the east wing of the middle school, from the fourth floor to the roof. So you write your name on the sixth stair, and the name of the person you wanna break up with on the seventh, then you’re officially not friends anymore. It makes it so that you two never see each other again, not now, not ever. But if you wanna take it all back and make amends, the person who apologizes first will be kidnapped by the chain monsters! They take you away and trap you inside the staircase, where you’re forced to clean for all eternity! That’s what they say anyway…

We are totally THROUGH!” Say those magic words, and you might not see her– but she can see you! Try to patch things up, and you’ll be dragged off and away! My goodness! My gosh! Get caught by the shadow girl who lost all her friends, and you’ll get stuck with cleaning duty on the stairs that never end! It’s a rumor that ALL the girls in Kamihama City are talking about. Eeeeeeeeek! SCARY!" Official Translation: Have you heard? Has anyone told you? The Rumor of the Friendship Breaking Staircase. If you say, "Hmph! I hate you! Minor Uwasa
Fan Translation "My, have you heard? Who’d you hear it from? The Rumor of the Breakup Padlocks! Bridges, clifftops, viewing decks– they’re just about everywhere! Those locks of love that swear an eternal bond! But these things, oh no, they’re totally the reverse! Breakup padlocks that break bonds when unlocked! They swarm around like bugs, and if they catch you, that’s the end. You’ll be locked up in the Breakup Stairs! It’s a rumor that ALL the kids in Kamihama City are talking about. Talk about AWFUL!" Official Translation Have you heard? Has anyone told you? The Rumor of the Friendship Breaking Padlock. Many couples and friends put padlocks on bridges, capes, and observatories as a symbol of their bond. But what happens if you do the opposite and break it? According to the kids in Kamihama, it will lock you up in the Friendship Breaking Staircase! How horrible! |
In the Anime
- The content of Rumor was significantly changed from the game. See #Rumor of the Friendship Ending Staircase (Anime)
- The name of the underlying Rumor was changed from the Rule of Ending Friendships to the Friendship Ending Staircase.
- In the game, it was a Rumor about a specific behavior in Shinsei ward. In the anime, it was limited to the staircase of the Kamihama City University Affiliated School.
- In the game, there are depictions of brainwashing of victims who violated the Rumor rules. However, there aren't such depictions in the anime.
- Instead, the victim of Uwasa was described as tormented with anguish and remorse.
- The Uwasa and its barrier were redesigned by J・A・Seazer.
- In the design note, it is named "Dragon-God Staircase".
- In the anime, it appears that there isn't the black humanoid who acts as the bell-ringer, and the Uwasa's bell seems to be ringing by itself. Also, the Minor Uwasa seem to be produced from the bell of the Major Uwasa.
- The Uwasa's barrier in the anime is a cloudy space, unlike the barrier in the game, which was characterized by a sunset. It appears to be formed in the sky clouds above the school.
- The sound effect of the barrier collapsing sounds to be different from that of the Witches.
- In Episode 2, the shadows of Uwasa are called the chain witch.
- They are voiced by the members of Experimental Laboratory of Theatre ◎ Universal Gravitation (演劇実験室◎万有引力) that is organized by J・A・Seazer.
Trivia
- The Padlock Uwasa may be a reference to the love padlock.
