For the character, see Tsuyu Mizuna.
A Magical Girl who was once the daughter of Masatsuna Mizuna, who once ruled Hokuyō in the Soma Province, and was called the Ikusamiko (War Priestess) of the West. Although she was feared as a "one-hit wizard," the people of the fiefdom treated her so casually that they could hardly believe she was a princess. Normally serious and calm, she loosens up when it comes to her favorite stories and the Kowaka Mai.

Doppel Description

KOMATSU (Komatsu)

The Doppel of Divine Punishment.
Its form is a Straw Warrior.
While the master of this emotion wishes for a bountiful harvest to provide salvation to her people, her heart also secretly hosts a self-serving desire to restore her family’s authority. As if to express its master’s hidden wish, this Doppel uses straw burning with the flame of desire to smoke out its enemies, and uses its rigid limbs to trap and prey upon them. Even its master’s attempts to stop it won’t halt its brutal onslaught, as it continues to seek out and hunt the prey it requires to increase its own value. Once all the straw burns away and the Doppel vanishes, only a ghastly landscape is left behind, but a scant few beautiful wildflowers also seem to remain.

**Unique to Tsuyu Mizuna**
I've known this little guy for a long time now, given to me by my father one day.

But I don't know what they think when I see them eating food or flying around the room. What are you thinking at the perch, not even running away...?

Maybe this child is just looking far away and waiting.

Side Story

Tsuyu Mizuna's Side Story

Tsuyu expresses how deeply moved she was by the story of Atsumori, a young warrior killed in battle, which resonates with the harsh realities of war. Gen'un reflects on how such tales appeal to samurai, as they often face similar moral dilemmas. Tsuyu ponders a quote from Atsumori about the fleeting nature of human life compared to the divine Buddhist realm of Geten, which Gen'un explains that it's where one day equals fifty years in the human world. Tsuyu learns that Lord Sumiya plans to cut down the sacred tree of the Mizuna Clan, a symbol of their heritage. She becomes enraged and considers taking drastic action, but her father, Masatsuna, urges her to remain calm and strategize. They devise a plan to spread rumors that cutting the tree will bring divine punishment from the Mizuna ancestral spirits, and Gen'un agrees to help spread the rumors to deter Sumiya. Kyubey appears to her and offers Tsuyu a contract to become a Battle Shamaness, granting her the power to protect the sacred tree in exchange for fighting demons. Tsuyu accepts, wishing to save the tree from destruction, and using her newfound powers, intervenes when Sumiya’s men attempt to cut the tree. Sumiya, believing he was saved by the Mizuna ancestral spirits, abandons his plans, and Tsuyu reveals her transformation to her father and Gen'un. They're initially skeptical, but eventually accept her new role.

Tsuyu and Chizuru discuss the ongoing famine and its impact on their region. Despite the war being over, food shortages persist, and tensions rise as neighboring territories consider expanding their lands to secure resources. Tsuyu opposes conflict and suggests expanding trade and ports as a solution. A heated argument breaks out between Mizuna farmers and foreign farmers over water rights. Both sides claim ownership of a waterfall and present conflicting documents. Tsuyu intervenes and identifies the foreign farmer's document as a recent forgery. The foreign farmer challenges them to an iron-branded oath to settle the dispute, and Tsuyu volunteers to undergo the iron-branded oath in place of the Mizuna farmer. She carries a red-hot iron block to the shrine, using her powers to protect herself from harm. Her success in the trial proves her claim and intimidates the foreign farmer into admitting his document was fake. Tsuyu reveals that her father, Lord Masatsuna, had already negotiated with the neighboring lord to share the waterfall's water, so the foreign farmer apologizes, and both sides agree to cooperate. Chizuru questions the necessity of the iron-branded oath, but Tsuyu explains that demonstrating her divine powers as a Battle Shamaness serves as a deterrent to future conflicts.

Tsuyu and Chizuru discuss the recent rescue of a lost child and the ongoing famine. Chizuru expresses concern that Tsuyu is overworking herself by trying to protect everyone and everything, and Tsuyu admits she hadn’t considered the toll it might take. Tsuyu learns that her favorite dance troupe will perform at the Mizuna Shrine, so she and Chizuru attend the performance, which depicts the Tale of the Brothers Soga. Tsuyu becomes deeply engrossed in the story, but afterward, she realizes Chizuru has disappeared. Tsuyu searches for her. She's informed of a disturbance at Mizuna Shrine, where a performance troupe has attempted mass suicide under the influence of a Demon. She rushes to the scene, battles the witch, and eventually finds Chizuru, who had been fighting the Demon alone all day. She apologizes for not noticing Chizuru’s concerns earlier, but Chizuru admits she disappeared on purpose, wanting Tsuyu to come find her. She confesses she felt neglected and wanted Tsuyu to protect her too. The two reconcile, with Tsuyu promising to be more attentive and Chizuru vowing to communicate her feelings better.
