Portraits of the Past and Promise

After Name finds a pitch black Portrait, Sorana appears and expresses how much she likes it. After Name asks her who she is, she is shocked that Name doesn't remember her, Madoka then explains that she is someone Name will meet in the future.

Etymology

• The kanji in her surname mean calm (凪) and star (星).
• Her given name is spelled with hiragana, however it contains the word sora (そら), which can be spelled with the kanji (空) and holds multiple meanings, most notably including sky.
  • Notably, "sora" is the gikun reading of (宇宙) used in Sorana Magica's Japanese tagline. The word is normally read as uchuu and means universe, cosmos, space.
