Story
Chapter 1: Sea
Episode 1: My Future
A shot of the Earth in space, with spaceships flying here and there. Kyubey's reflection appears, over-imposed over the Earth, before switching to a shot of him sitting at the window of a spacecraft. He speaks to someone offscreen, warning them that their plan to cause a galactic war succeeding would lead to amounts of despair never seen before, and attempting to control the fate of the universe failing could cause the universe to cease to exist.
Year 2225, August 31st, 10:32 AM, Old Capital. Sorana Nagiboshi takes a break during work and tries to forget about her past and future through diving, but Coral Seeker Beta, her submarine and AI boss, tells her breaktime is almost over. Sorana asks where they're going, and Coral replies the destination is the former waterfront warehouse district, due to potential valuables. Sorana agrees to go. As they navigate there, Sorana ponders about the scorching sun and the destruction surrounding her.
In the meanwhile, Coral turns the news on, describing the extent of global warming, military conflict between Earth and Mars, the upcoming elections on Mars, and a memorial service for the 5th anniversary of the Old Capital Great Flood. The last one prompts Sorana to tell Coral to play music instead, and it complies. Sorana mumbles it's been 5 years already.
6:12 PM. Sorana complains she failed to find anything valuable again, and Coral prompts her to go to another location. When Sorana accuses it of having no heart, it agrees, as it's an AI. It reminds her it needs maintenance, which Sorana avoided up to now due to low funds. The two move to a more adequate location - a nearby abandoned ruin, and she replaces Coral's engine filter under its instructions. She hears a sound inside the building, which she investigates.
She encounters a beautiful room, but she's not alone. There's a mysterious girl sitting on a beam, who greets her. Sorana tries saying hello back, but stutters. The girl jumps off, scaring Sorana, but her landing is unusually graceful. Sorana asks if she's okay, and she affirms. Sorana realizes the girl is just her type, and stutters talking about the weather. The girl asks if she's ever thought about the future. Sorana's outlook is negative, and she says she won't achieve anything in her life. The girl assures her she has potential and tells her they might meet again. Sorana, thinking the girl is proposing to her, asks her out for dinner, but the girl disappears without a reply.
Sorana goes back to Coral, and ponders out-loud if the girl was a hallucination, magic, or a ninja. Coral is dismissive, and didn't notice the girl. Sorana wonders if they'll meet again.
Episode 2: A Request from My Fave
6:24 PM, Offshore of the Old Capital. Sorana, distracted, nearly crashes Coral on the way home. At sunset, she arrives at Ship Archipelago, and Coral reminds her about a pending work report. Sorana dismisses it and gets fish from a trap she set up for dinner. At home, she cooks them, and still thinks about the girl. She turns on Lilly Candy's stream - she's at a station orbiting Earth, and plans to stream about the legend of the fish-man of the Old Capital. Lilly explains she found a submersible pilot online to guide her - Sorana Nagiboshi. Sorana barely believes it's her, but Lilly calls her, and Sorana agrees to be her guide tomorrow. After Lilly tells her she loves her, the call ends. Still shocked, Sorana performs extra maintenance for Coral, and finds no problems. She fails to fall asleep, sighing over Lilly.
Episode 3: My Dream Streamer
September 1st, 6:12 AM, Sorana's Room. Sorana couldn't sleep last night at all, and is fretting about her poor social skills and appearance. Coral reminds her she's not allowed to pilot it in anything other than the uniform, and Sorana agrees. Sorana asks how far away the space port is - 30 minutes by submersible - and notes Lilly is due to arrive at 10 AM.
9:46 AM, Ship Archipelago, Space Port. Sorana is just outside the port - an abandoned oil super-tanker vessel - and docks Coral. In that moment, she notices Sugar Star, Lilly's spacecraft. By 10:00 AM, it has landed, and Sorana enters the port's lounge. Lilly finds her there, and Sorana stutters through an introduction. Lilly tells her she shouldn't be nervous and hugs her.
They get out, and Sorana leads her to Coral. Lilly is excited seeing the vast sea, much different from the artificial ones at the space colonies. She struggles with surface sickness due to difference in gravity force, and comments on the hot weather. Sorana explains it reaches at least 45°C/110°F[note 1] every day. She introduces Coral to Lilly, and Coral asks Lilly for an autograph on its hull, which she happily gives. Sorana is unimpressed by Coral's preferential treatment, but Lilly assures her she loves her and hugs her again. Coral reminds them it has no passenger seat, but Lilly finds a solution - sitting on Sorana's lap. Sorana screams.
Episode 4: That Day
12:48 PM Ship Archipelago. The two are sightseeing, but Lilly is hungry. Sorana takes her to a floating ramen stand that grows its own vegetables, which amazes Lilly. Sorana asks about the story about the fish-man in the radio tower, and Lilly explains the urban legend. Sorana finds the associated location online, Old Chuo Radio Tower, and notices the path will be long due to being one of the worst areas to be affected by the floods.
4:07 PM, Old "Island" District. Lilly notices a building different from others, with no plant overgrowth. Sorana says it's because it's a relatively new building and that people still lived there 5 years ago. Sorana breaks down crying trying to explain the extent of the Great Flood, and suffers a flashback.
2220, September 23rd, 3:52 PM, Old Capital, "Island" District, Sorana's House. A news programme informs about a typhoon and a precautionary evacuation order. Sorana and her mother pack up and attempt to follow it, planning to pick up Sorana's other mother, Lina, on the way. At 4:32 PM, in "Island" District's Commercial Area, the two find the road has been closed. Another news programme issues an order to go to a safe high-rise building immediately as the levees are at a risk of breach. Sorana's mother tells her they have to get out and that Lina will be fine, but Sorana is swept away by the flood. She loses consciousness, and regains it on a truck rammed into a footbridge, surrounded by now-unrecognizable flooded ruins. She's only rescued a few hours later, but neither of her mothers have been found, thus beginning Sorana's life a an orphan.
Panting, Sorana's flashback ends. Lilly is worried about her, but Sorana explains that she lost her loved ones here without further detail, and lies that she's fine. She feigns an excited tone, and shows Lilly the now-nearby radio tower.
Episode 5: The Radio Tower Fish-Man
4:24 PM, Radio Tower Ruins. Lilly and Sorana show the radio tower on-stream, but soon end it to get ready to search for the fish-man. Due to her awkwardness, Sorana thinks to herself she doesn't deserve to be the one hired by Lilly. A mysterious voice affirms, and tells her to repeat its insults, to which she complies. It also tells her to jump into the sea, but Lilly, now in a new outfit, prevents it. Sorana regains awareness of her surroundings, and finds herself amidst a grim set of ruins resembling human bones.
Lilly says she's a Magical Girl, and pulls Sorana out of the water. Sorana asks what a Magical Girl is, and Kyubey appears, offering her a contract and explaining what a Witch is as one approaches. Sorana and Kyubey watch Lilly unsuccessfully fight it. Kyubey tells Sorana that's because Lilly's magic, brainwave manipulation, isn't good for combat, and what she wished for - to be the top streamer in the whole solar system.
As Sorana watches Lilly get dragged underwater, Kyubey once more offers her a contract, but she interrupts him saying she has to save Lilly.
Episode 6: Bound by a Wish

Sorana struggles swimming through the water in spite of being confident in her skills, but manages to find Lilly underwater. As she tries to get to the surface, something drags her further down. Telepathically, Kyubey offers her a contract once more. Sorana's wish is "Never let the sea steal someone from me again!". She's surprised that she can breathe underwater, but Kyubey explains it's because her magic is water molecule manipulation and she split water into hydrogen and oxygen. She finds Lilly is unconscious and needs oxygen, but before she can take action, Lilly regains consciousness and thanks her. They do a combo attack and defeat the Witch.
They obtain a Grief Seed, and Lilly explains its function. She uses it on Sorana's Soul Gem, and hands it to Kyubey. They come to the conclusion that the legendary "fish-man" was actually the Witch, and wait for the Labyrinth to disappear, which doesn't happen. Instead, a new, white Labyrinth is forming inside the Labyrinth, something that Kyubey has never seen before. Sorana and Lilly are scared seeing something move.
