Name?

This isn't new, but now both Exedra and the new Record localization (from the porting to Exedra system) both call her Reira, the new localization is also what we're using for the unit pages, so basically everywhere she is called Reira. So should this page's name be changed? I know the new localization is weird ("Waverider" instead of Surfer, "Holiday" instead of Christmas) but Exedra has pretty normal localization and it still uses Reira. - TheresaFrog421 (talk) 22:42, 15 February 2026 (UTC)

I might be in the minority, but "Reira" just strikes me as something that can't possibly be correct, just as "Riz" can't possibly be correct. (Admittedly, it's actually nowhere near as bad as "Riz".) So I'd prefer to leave it as is. If there's a official statement in Japanese stating that the Exedra localization is correct, then I would back down, but until and unless that happens, my opinion is that we should stick with the original, more sensible localization. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 14:40, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

i've semi-quit editing the wiki, but to put in my own two cents since i'm involved in magireco/pmmm translation and have had this conversation many, many times--

"leila" is not inherently more correct than "reira" is; it's entirely up to personal opinion. if we want to be pedantic, it would technically only be "leila" if spelled with katakana, which her name is not; it's in hiragana. but since both are simply approximations using the latin alphabet, neither is more correct or "more sensible" than the other. also, "riz" is indeed correct according to masugitsune, who is tart magica's creator; he took issue with her name being rendered "liz" in the north american magia record server. since exedra is more recent, i would say we use "reira" in the title and bulk of the page to avoid confusion, but it's also very easy to say "reira ibuki, also known as leila ibuki" at the introduction of the article. I can see your argument for Reira over Leila. It somewhat makes sense, though I don't really agree with it. For Liz vs Riz though, there's really no argument that the latter is correct even if the creator says so. From my perspective, that means the creator is just wrong. It is completely inconceivable that someone from Italy would shorten "Elizabetta" (or similar) to "Riz". That would just never happen. The only logical way to get "Riz" from her full name is to be a native speaker of a language that doesn't distinguish L and R – for example, Japanese. It's totally believable that a Japanese speaker would shorten "Elizabetta" to "Riz". But Liz is not a Japanese speaker. Thus, "Liz" is the only logically correct answer. And if Masugitsune is truly taking issue with this, I really don't care. A creator's word only holds the highest authority for me when all else is (mostly) equal.

But I'm getting a bit off-topic here. This is about Leila vs Reira, not Liz vs Riz. I agree with your final sentence – whatever is ultimately settled on as the "official title", both spellings need to be mentioned.

Though I strongly prefer Leila, that's based on the fact that it is a common, well-established Western name, whereas (from what I can tell), Reira is not a common, well-established Japanese name. If the latter assumption is actually incorrect (I didn't research it that deeply), then that would be a decent argument for preferring the Reira spelling. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 02:26, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
