Timelines/Devil

The Devil universe is the result of the second rewrite undertaken by Homura at the end of Rebellion. In this world, it seems that Magical Girls still fight Wraiths, so a fragment of the Law of Cycles is still active, but the details of the system and the full scope of Kyubey's duty is unknown. Unlike the Law of Cycles, this seems to only encompass one world, instead of many.[1] This timeline is depicted in:

  1. Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Rebellion-
  2. Presumably Walpurgisnacht: Rising

The Recent Past

  • Three years prior to the current time, Madoka transfers to America due to her mother's job.
  • The details of how these events happened are unknown, but Kyoko starts attending school in Mitakihara, and Nagisa is still alive, presumably living with, or in good terms with Mami. Additionally, Kyosuke got healed from his injury, as Sayaka is still a Magical Girl, and is also apparently still dating Hitomi.

Present Day

  • In the present day, Homura observes her friends in the rewritten reality, in which her Familiars seem to be a natural part of the world. She wipes the memory of Mami and Kyoko, but she's then confronted by Sayaka, who has remembered the truth when she wakes up in the new world. While the students of Mitakihara around them disappear, Homura reveals that she only stole a part of the Law of Cycles and declares herself as evil for having pulled the records of Madoka from heaven. Sayaka summons Oktavia to fight, but Homura erases her memory, making Oktavia disappear as well, while Nagisa runs around laughing gleefully. Sayaka feels that she shouldn't be here and she tells Homura that she'll never forget that she's the devil, but Homura only tells her that they should pretend to be in good terms. Homura disappears and the world goes back to appearing normal, where Sayaka greeted by Kyosuke and Hitomi on their way to school.
    • Madoka returns to Mitakihara as a transfer student, and Homura offers to show her around school. As they walk, her memories of her divine form begin to resurface. Homura intervenes and pushes those memories down while hugging Madoka. She asks Madoka if she loves the world and gives her back her red ribbon which she wore. Homura reaffirms that she will create a world where Madoka can be happy, even if it means opposing her someday. At the end of the day, Sayaka and Kyoko eat pocky after school together, Mami and Nagisa shop for snacks and Madoka and her family start unpacking.
    • That night, Homura sits alone on a cliff, the moon now unnaturally split in half, and dances with the dark orb as Kyubey appears near her in a disheveled state.
