Original Universe

41,000 to 39,000 Years Ago

• Incubators find Earth and the Homo sapien race.
• Incubators arrive on Earth.
• The first magical girl is born, using her Wish to save humanity from the mass extinction event that wiped out the Homo neanderthalensis (Neanderthals).

38th Millennium BCE - 13th Century CE

• TBD (Tart Magica and Episode 11, 12)
• Pernelle is born in a cave associated with the god Hermes, likely in Mount Kyllini to the Cult of Hermes, possibly as far back as 1 BCE. At some point she makes a contract with Kyubey and becomes a Magical Girl.
• Pernelle creates the sword, Épée de Clovis, for Clovis I (c. 466-511), as well as weapons for his siblings, including Audofleda who was also a Magical Girl.

14th Century CE - 15th Century CE

• A Magical Girl in Kaffa, who wished to fend off the invasion from the Mongol Empire to protect her hometown, received the power of disease to do so. After the disease wiped her hometown as well, she became a Witch and caused an outbreak of the Black Death in mid-1300s Europe.
  • During this outbreak, Pernelle met Nicholas Flamel, who'd found the process for how to create a Philosopher's Stone.
• In 1385, at the age of fourteen, Isabeau de Bavière was sent to France to wed the king. There, she was approached by Cube to make a contract with him. After asking many questions about the Magical Girl System and the Incubators' very nature, she wished for everything Cube possessed and, among other things, gained the power to make contracts herself.
• For the following decades, Isabeau makes contracts with many girls, causing them to lose their souls and become mindless servants to her. Isabeau's first victim was a servant, who was tricked by Isabeau to wish for her fidelity to Isabeau for as long as she lived. Among the ones she contracts is her own daughter Corbeau, who wishes to become a Magical Girl specialized in fighting Magical Girls, so her sisters wouldn't need to fight.
• Riz Hawkwood becomes a Magical Girl with the wish to be the one from whom a new, true hero would spring. Afterwards, she travelled Europe with Cube in search of this hero to fulfill her wish.
  • The first candidate she met was referred to as "Machete", with the same age as Riz. She would die in battle against a Witch after her Soul Gem broke.
  • The second was referred to as "Frusta", who was older than Riz. She would also die in battle against a Witch.
  • The third and fourth were twins, where one is referred as "Falce" and the other one "Lancia", who were younger than Riz. Lancia would become a Witch and afterwards, Falce believed Riz and Cube had planned this, so she turned against them, forcing Riz to kill her as well.
• At some point, after 1422, Isabeau uses too much of her magic and becomes a Witch. Lapin overturns this process by making a wish to the Witch itself so that Isabeau would go back to how she was. This causes Isabeau's Witch mind to inhabit her human body and continue her plans.

• On May 30, 1431, Tart is burned at the stake as a relapsed heretic and a "witch". Cube doesn't try to persuade Tart to become a itch out of gratitude.

Present Day

• Mami Tomoe is involved in a car accident and makes a wish with Kyubey to survive.
• Kyoko Sakura makes a contract with Kyubey in exchange for people frequenting her dad's church and listening to him.
• Mami and Kyoko meet and form a partnership to fight Witches. Some time later, Kyoko's father would see her fighting a Witch and would later kill his entire family as well as himself, leaving only Kyoko behind. This trauma would also block Kyoko's unique magic and afterwards, to break her partnership with Mami.
• Mami and Kyubey spot Mabayu Aki as a potential Magical Girl. After Mabayu's mother, who had the inexplicable power to see the future, foresaw her own death, she became deathly terrified. With her low potential, Mabayu wished to erase her mother's memory of her prediction and became a Magical Girl.
• Mabayu and Mami form a partnership, and even convince other candidates to become Magical Girls. To make this happen, Mabayu uses her powers of predicting the future and wiping the memories from the girls. These girls would shortly after disappear, likely due to dying in battle or becoming Witches themselves.

Timeline 1

These are the events that happen from Homura's release from the hospital, until she creates the first timeline with her wish to save Madoka. Shown in Film 0 and Episode 10.

• Homura Akemi is discharged from the hospital after a long absence from school due to suffering from a heart condition.
• The next night, Madoka Kaname is approached by Kyubey, who appears at her windowsill, prompting her to make a contract and become a Magical Girl. On the third day, Madoka plans to visit Amy at Récompense, but finds her injured after being hit by a car. Kyubey appears again, offering to save Amy in exchange for Madoka’s wish to become a Magical Girl. Madoka agrees to the contract and the next day, Mami meets up with her and takes her on her first patrol.
• The following week, Homura attends school and befriends Madoka. On her walk home, she's lured into a Witch's barrier, but is rescued by Madoka and Mami, who reveal they're Magical Girls.
  • At that same time, Sayaka and Hitomi Shizuki discuss Madoka’s recent change in demeanor and afterwards, Sayaka becomes lost in a Witch’s barrier where she is killed by a Familiar.
• At Mami's apartment, Mami and Madoka explain Magical Girls and Witches to Homura, even mentioning Walpurgisnacht. Mabayu observes the scene in camouflage, hoping Homura will join their team before Walpurgisnacht arrives.
• Madoka and Mami save Hitomi and other people from a Witch. That week, Kyosuke Kamijo is discharged from the hospital after having suffered an accident and Hitomi gives him a congratulatory cake. By this point, Homura has decided against becoming a Magical Girl.
• As Walpurgisnacht approaches, a storm triggers an evacuation in Mitakihara. Mami, Mabayu and Madoka prepare for battle and have Mabayu foresee their future against Walpurgisnacht. Mabayu finds out that Magical Girls become Witches and sees their loss in the battle, but then she receives a vision of a future timeline from Ultimate Madoka, to give her hope. Mabayu hides the true, morbid prediction of how the fight would go to inspire hope.
• During the fight with Walpurgisnacht, Mabayu admits to lying about her prediction, but cuts out the memory of the future she saw so that the end result of the battle would be different. Homura arrives at the battlefield and both Mabayu and Mami die in battle.
• Madoka goes to fight against Walpurgisnacht and, similarly, dies. Homura laments her death and is then approached by Kyubey. She becomes a Magical Girl with the wish to go back in time and save Madoka, thus creating the second timeline.

Timeline 2

This timeline is the first loop Homura goes through in her attempt to save Madoka. Shown in Film 1 and Episode 10.

• Homura wakes up in the hospital, wondering if she'd been through a dream, but after seeing her own Soul Gem, she realizes it was real.
  • Mabayu wakes up, having retained her memories from the previous timeline, as well as being aware that Homura has made a contract and become a Magical Girl. Mabayu interrogates Kyubey and wipes herself from his memory. She reflects on her relationship with Mami and erases her own memory of being a Magical Girl.
• Mabayu, now with no memory of her experience as a Magical Girl, wakes up from a dream she can't remember. Mami greets her on the way to school, but Mabayu bluntly brushes her off, unaware of their history.
• Homura remains in the hospital and is approached by Kyubey. She recounts the events of the first timeline in detail.
  • Mabayu is unknowingly connected to Homura. She notices that time stops around her and later finds that she has a ring -her Soul Gem- which she doesn't remember buying.
  • Kyubey tells Mami that Mabayu is a Magical Girl, though he has no recollection of her. Mami surmises that Mabayu wiped her own memory and Kyubey informs her of Homura, another "irregular".
• Mabayu has a vision of Amy being hit with a car, but she is unable to stop it. Madoka appears and together with Sakie takes her to the vet. Madoka brings Amy back to life with her wish, which Sakie calls a miracle.
• During a class trip to a factory, Mabayu ends up in a labyrinth but is saved by Mami, and later is saved by Sayaka from a smokestack.
  • In battle against a witch, Madoka meets Kyoko by being saved by her.
• Homura starts attending school and introduces herself to Madoka as a Magical Girl. She later meets up with both Madoka and Mami, but Mami is suspicious, questioning whether she made Kyubey forget about Mabayu. Homura then informs them about Walpurgisnacht's arrival.
  • At this point in time, Sayaka has disappeared, likely having been killed by a Familiar similar to the previous timeline.
• Mami trains Homura, and Homura, following her advice, makes explosives. Homura later tests explosives in an industrial complex, preparing for the upcoming battles against witches and other threats.
• Hitomi is hospitalized by a Witch that Kyoko defeats. Later, Madoka, Homura and Mami encounter Kyoko.
• Mabayu overhears Homura and Mami talking and follows them. She is caught up in a Witch's labyrinth, which Kyoko and Mami defeat together. Later, Mabayu follows Mami in a separate occasion, but Mami notices and threatens her. Mabayu runs away and, in a panic, gets dragged into another Witch's labyrinth where she's killed by a Familiar.
• After they're unable to contact her, Madoka and Homura go to investigate Mami's apartment and they find her body and Kyoko. Kyoko tells them that she was killed by a Familiar.
  • Due to her wording, it is unknown if Kyoko is lying to them about the Familiar, whether Mami was too grief-stricken to fight, or whether her death was a suicide.
• Madoka and Homura fight Walpurgisnacht, and Kyoko eventually joins the fight, stating that it's Mami’s will. Walpurgisnacht wins, and Madoka and Homura are defeated. Madoka reflects on the death of Mami, Kyoko, and possibly Sayaka. Feeling responsible for their deaths, she becomes a Witch, while Homura is shocked and turns back time once more.

• Cleopatra VII Philopator becomes Pharaoh of Egypt and uses girls from the Met Clan to make contracts for her benefit. One of these candidates makes a wish for Cleopatra's beauty, but this magic did need to be reapplied, otherwise its effects would wear off.
  • Ebony makes a contract wishing for Cleopatra to have enough glory to carve her name in history.
