Uhrmann

Uhrmann (UHRMANN) is the witch form of Inui Itsumi. She never appeared in the original anime, but her familiars battle Sayaka in Episode 8. Her familiars make a brief reappearance in The Rebellion Story.

Uhrmann would make her first appearance in the the anime's original manga adaptation. She was formally introduced with her familiars in Magia Record, where she would also be given a backstory in the event "Nagisa Momoe's Wish Comes True." They also appear in Magia Exedra.

Original Anime

While Uhrmann doesn't make an appearance in the anime, her familiars do. The Bartels appear in Episode 8 where Sayaka desperately tries to defeat them after discovering she can no longer confess to Kyosuke. All they do is spin and they cannot attack (which is in line with their witch card description).

The Rebellion Story

While Uhrmann doesn't make an apperence in The Rebellion Story, her familiars, the Bartels reappear briefly as a part of Sayaka's orchestra hall. They do nothing but stand or spin. They have a brief description, shown in Ulla's Rental Ver. Concept page.

Minions of the Dog Witch. They came by hiding in Sayaka's bag. For now, they're spinning around in the hall. (犬の魔女の手下。さやかのカバンに紛れ込みやって来た。 とりあえずホールで回転中。)

Uhrmann and her familiars make their first united appearance in Magia Record. Their descriptions are the same apart from Uhrmann, excluding the part 'has not debuted'.

Plot summary

According to the Event Story "Nagisa's Wish Comes True", her human name is Inui Itsumi (伊津見 尹縫）. She is curious about a man named Sho (most likely one of the men who met Sayaka in Episode 8), whom she loves. At that time, Mitakihara City is visited by a magical girl calling herself Yu, who is known to others as the "Sleepwalking Ghost" (夢遊の亡霊), and kills people whose names appear on her "bad person" list. One of these names is Sho, who Inui blindly believes to be a good person so strongly that she cannot concentrate on hunting witches. When Yu attempts to kill him, Inui arrives and attempts to fight her, but loses. After her defeat by Yu, Inui's body and soul gem reach their limit. She finally realizes that Kyubey's motive is to make magical girls become witches, but it's too late, and she turns into Uhrmann in the same hospital in which Nagisa Momoe's mother is being treated. Nagisa soon thereafter attempts to defeat Uhrmann in order to demand gratitude from her mother, but ends up failing and fainting. Eventually, Uhrmann is killed by Yu.

Magia Exedra

Uhrmann and the Bartels appear in Magia Exedra. They appear in the Main Quest Dog Witch.

Observations

• Uhrmann and Bartels are German family names instead of given names.
• The Bartels' labyrinth in the television version of Episode 8 had a blue-green patterned background. In the BD version and later, the labyrinth was changed to be fully black with coloured sparkles. This design is the one used in Magia Record.
• Uhrmann's tail has a Bartel-like doll at the end of it, which remains for a time after the main body disappears when she is defeated in both Magia Record and Magia Exedra.
  • This implies her tail like doll to may be her true body, with the main dog body being a form it adopted to be more appealing to others.
• In Magia Exedra, a full map of the Witch's Labyrinth reveals it to be a lonely seashore filled with color dots, leading to a big empty ocean filled with her familiars and small colored balls that may be marbles. The deeper the Labyrinth ocean gets, the more dark it gets until there's no light visible.
  • Because of this, Uhrmann could reference an Inugami or "dog water"—a type of spirit or familiar that takes the form of a dog, serving as a loyal protector and carrying out tasks for its master. This concept aligns well with her magical girl.
  • Uhrmann's Labyrinth being a dark empty ocean with no visible light and being the last Witch's Labyrinth Sayaka Miki gets to fight in, might foreshadow her turning into Oktavia.

Trivia

• Magia Record is the first instance of this witch being animated.
• Bartels that are depicted in mangas are missing their heads, most likely due to the Witch Card and anime scenes not or barely showed the heads.
• For some reason, Uhrmann lacks her nature description in the English version of Magia Exedra.
