Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Different Story (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ ~The different story~) is a three-volume manga spin-off for the Madoka Magica Movie created by Hanokage. The first volume was released on October 12th, 2012, while the other two will be released on October 19th and November 12th.

The first volume begins as an adaptation of Drama CD 3, though in culminates in an alternate timeline with a different outcome from the timelines shown in the anime.

Observation & Trivia

  • After seeing her father hanging, Kyoko lost her 'Rosso Phantasma' ability. She might feel herself as Mami's burden so she decided to break up with Mami.
  • In this story, Sayaka saves Mami from her fate (defeated by Charlotte) by making a contract for Kyousuke. She then makes combination with Mami.
    • Homura tells Mami that since she already formed a combination with Sayaka, she should not induce Madoka to contract. However, Mami thinks her intention is to invite Madoka to her party, with Kyoko, so she refuses such idea.
  • Sayaka doesn't go to save Hitomi from a witch since she doesn't want to lose Kyousuke. Although Hitomi then still be saved by Mami, Sayaka feels regret and guilty for this.
    • She flips out during witch hunting, and results in Mami's severe hurt. Despite she heals Mami with her magic, this makes her fall into despair.
      • Madoka tells Kyousuke about how his hands get recovered. Sayaka feels hurt again when her secret is exposed.
  • Although not drawn, Sayaka becomes a witch in the late part of chapter 8.
    • This time, she didn't call herself an idiot. She feels happy for being necessary to Mami, but it's too late.
    • According to Kyubey, she becomes a witch because there is no grief seed left for her. All are grabbed by Homura, Kyoko and Mami.
  • Knowing a magical girl's inevitable fate, Mami decides to die with Oktavia. Kyoko stops her and fights her.
    • Homura remembers Mami's insanity after learning the truth for many timelines. She tells Kyoko but Kyoko doesn't believe her words.
    • Kyoko's illusion ability recovered a little. She cheated Mami so she has the chance to cleanse Mami's soul gem.
  • Finally Madoka makes her contract to revive Sayaka, and Homura resets time. {{spoiler|Mami commits suicide by breaking her soul gem.}
  • Weapon design in this spin-off is the same as in anime, rather than the manga version.
    • Mami also often summons multiple guns.
    • Soul gem design is also based on the anime version.
