Asuka Tatsuki (New Year's Dragon God) (竜城明日香新春龍神ver., Tatsuki Asuka Shinshun Ryūjin ver.) was a playable character in the 2017 mobile game Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record. She was a variant of Asuka Tatsuki wearing an alternate outfit that used a golden mallet as her weapon.

Summary

A magical girl who took on the appearance of a dragon god, who is said to have been the founder of the Tatsuki family. Her New Year's resolution is to "calm the ripples within her mirror", but there is currently little hope that she'll be able to achieve it. She has a golden mallet of fortune, but when she shakes it, it doesn't grant her wishes, so she's struggling to do something about it on her own.

Doppel Description

The Doppel of assault. Its form is a Mikoshi. The master of this emotion is hesitant to stand out so much, but seems to be enjoying herself nonetheless. The Doppel converts the size of its master’s joy into light that radiates from within its body. On top of that, it also expresses said joy by causing money and treasures such as koban coins to erupt from the places it attacks. Those who are blinded by its wicked light and swarm to it like flies will be struck on the head by the Doppel, as if to say “how dare you succumb to worldly passions so soon after New Year’s!”. This rids them of their worldly passions… but also their life, so nobody actually manages to grab hold of the treasure. The Doppel also fears that its brightly-shining master is actually the one most consumed by worldly passion, but it’s turning a blind eye.

Side Story

Asuka's (New Year Dragon God) Side Story
During a training camp with her friends, Asuka behaves unusually, tripping over nothing and seeming distracted. When her friends grow concerned, she confesses she is anxious about an upcoming family gathering after New Year's where she will see her young cousins. She recalls a blunder from the previous New Year's when she panicked over having only one sweet for two cousins and ran out to buy more, only to learn the baby could not eat solids yet, which made her relatives laugh at her scatterbrained nature. Determined to redeem herself this year, Asuka wants to show dignity as a reliable older cousin and give her cousins New Year's money to feel like an adult, just as her older cousin once did for her, but she lacks the funds. Emiri suggests a plan and introduces her to a part-time job opportunity. The next day, Asuka begins working at Chikukoubou, a lunch box shop run by Riko's family, where she is joined by Maria and Sae. She immediately makes a mistake by tidying up and nearly throwing away sticky notes that identify customer orders, but Maria and Sae cover for her by recovering the order forms and instruct her to stall for time if reservation customers arrive. Asuka faces several customers while stalling, mistakenly calling Tsukasa by her Tsukuyo's name and using her scatterbrained reputation to buy time. She later serves Kanagi but forgets to give her change and then forgets to hand over the lunch itself, chasing after her to deliver it. After these incidents, Asuka becomes discouraged, comparing herself unfavorably to everyone else who seems perfect and reliable. When Maria asks about her motivation, Asuka shares the story of her older cousin, who secretly gave her otoshidama as a high school student and took her to buy a toy she wanted, bypassing her mother who saved all her money. This memory drives her desire to become a reliable adult like him. Moved by her story, Maria and Sae commit to helping her seriously, and Sae teaches Asuka a method to reduce mistakes: take a deep breath, calm down, confirm, and reconfirm before acting. Asuka practices this with customers and finds it helpful, though the constant tension exhausts her. Maria then encourages Asuka to observe the people around her more calmly. Asuka notices Sae muttering angrily about a rude customer, Maria panicking over a spider, Kanagi admitting she ordered the wrong number of lunches, Mifuyu forgetting her wallet, and Mikage throwing a tantrum in public. She also realizes that Moka Megumi's overly formal speech was a result of nervousness while practicing errands, and that even Riko, despite her maturity, fell asleep like a normal child. Asuka concludes that no one is as perfect as she imagined, including her idealized memories of her cousin. The day before the family gathering, Asuka prepares the otoshidama envelopes. She checks repeatedly, confident she has changed. On the day of the gathering, Asuka arrives at her parents' home and smoothly handles serving sweets. When her aunt and cousins arrive, Asuka presents the otoshidama envelopes, but her older cousin opens one immediately and finds nothing inside. Asuka panics, then takes a deep breath and realizes she removed the bills the night before for a final check and forgot to put them back. She rushes to retrieve them while her young cousins burst into laughter at her flustered state. Though embarrassed, Asuka accepts it and resolves to grow even more, determined to become truly reliable this year.
