Kazuki Kawata initially joined the production of Walpurgisnacht: Rising as an animator for the opening action sequences.[4] He was later invited to collaborate with Tomohiro Furukawa after Furukawa requested for "someone young" to help him sketch out ideas.[5] Kawata's work as a Visual Concept Designer included developing visual ideas for scenes throughout the movie; designing settings and props such as weapons, umbrellas, feathers, and statues; converting Gekidan Inu Curry's drawings for animation; proposing promotional imagery; and drawing key visuals.[4]
