To avoid Madoka from making a contract, they'll need to defeat Walpurgisnacht. With the help of Mabayu's future vision and special training from Homura, the two were able to efficiently defeat all of the witches while accumulating as many grief seeds as possible. However, they still could not overcome Walpurgisnacht. It's at this point when Mabayu began to wonder what it was she was fighting for.

Summary

Day 1

Over and over and over and over and over and over and...

An alarm rings, waking up Mabayu Aki. She doesn't seem happy as she recalls the events of the previous time loop. It hadn't worked out in the end and, if what Kyubey had said was true about the world being destroyed in 10 days, then the Sayaka and Kyosuke of that world would also be gone. She gives a small cry as she reminds herself now isn't the time to dwell on the past. This time for sure they would go on to see the day after Walpurgisnacht.

Day 3

In Homura's pendulum room, Homura and Mabayu go over what went right or wrong in the last loop. They were able to successfully prevent Madoka from contracting until the day of Walpurgisnacht, but Madoka couldn't overlook the town being destroyed and ended up contracting at the last minute. They'll need to defeat Walpurgisnacht with their own hands. Homura shows Mabayu the flowchart she created of the 1 month the time loop lasts for. She points to where the writing is in red, indicating a point at which Kyubey attempts to contact Madoka. It's possible they may only have to focus on those time points and don't necessarily have to be there for all the other times during the loop. So long as the initial conditions don't change then the flow of time should remain the same, but if they change their actions even slightly then the flowchart may change and Kyubey may strike. Even if it's not something related to Madoka directly, any change will be like a butterfly effect and could alter the flowchart drastically. Mabayu understands, but argues that not taking the risk of changing the flowchart could hinder them from ever defeating Walpurgisnacht. Homura has a two-fold plan: the first is to gather as many grief seeds as efficiently as possible. If they have no need to hesitate when using magic in the final battle, then they'll be able to do more and stronger attacks against the witch. Homura has already recorded Walpurgis' location of appearance, time, and strategy. Mabayu is pleased to hear this as it means no need for future vision if the witch follows the same patterns. However, the most important person to overcome Walpurgisnacht is Mabayu. It must be her.

Day 10

In a vision of the future, Homura shoots at Izabel as she dodges the incoming attacks. She hopes it's the last time she has to face this witch. She manages to handle the fight on her own without using time stops, and takes the time to call out to Mabayu telepathically. Mabayu screams in fright as she calls out for help but Homura remains calm and tells her things seem to be going well. Mabayu can't believe she's been asked to do this on her own, but Homura reminds her she saw herself defeating the familiars on her own in her future vision, so there's no reason for her to panic. She needs to just use the decoy to draw out the familiars. Once enough of them are away from the witch, it'll clear a path. Mabayu continues to scream and cry out as she begs Homura to hurry up before she gets hit again. Homura focuses her attention on the witch at hand and finally stops time, taking several shots at the witch. She asks how Mabayu is faring. Mabayu seems to have calmed down somewhat and thinks she can manage on her own now. Homura nods and restarts time. The bullets tear into the witch before the final bomb goes off, destroying it and dissipating the barrier. She detransforms and asks if Mabayu is okay. Mabayu is shaking and stuttering, but managed to defeat the witch on her own. She then collapses from fright and exhaustion.

The vision ends as Mabayu and Homura stand on the school's rooftop. Homura asks how the vision went but Mabayu, who is visibly shaken, tells her she saw nothing, nothing at all! It's impossible, there's just no way she can defeat the witch all by herself. Homura asks if she failed, and when Mabayu shakes her head and whimpers, Homura tells her give up already. The future she saw is destined to happen so there's nothing she can do to change that. Mabayu cries and whimpers some more.

Mabayu shrieks as she closes her eyes and haphazardly stabs at the space in front of her. The Adelberts easily dodge the attacks before striking at her. Mabayu yelps in pain as their blows land. Mabayu cowers as she cries out, telling herself it's impossible for her to defeat a witch on her own. Even if the future showed her she could, actually living the experience was decidedly worse. Mabayu runs as the Adelberts give chase. Homura reminds her not to go too fast. So long as she's able to draw enough of them away she should be good. Homura calls out as she freezes time. Mabayu breathes a sigh of relief before hurrying to kill the familiars. Homura asks how Mabayu is faring. Mabayu seems to have calmed down somewhat and thinks she can manage on her own now. Homura nods and restarts time. Getrud is suddenly sliced from all directions before a bomb goes off, destroying it. Mabayu sees something come flying at her. It was one of her own scissors that had been lodged in the witch and was now hurtling directly at her thanks to the force of the explosion. Somehow, Mabayu is barely able to dodge the weapon. The barrier dissipates and Mabayu detransforms. Homura asks if Mabayu is okay. Mabayu is shaking and stuttering, but managed to defeat the witch on her own. She then collapses from fright and exhaustion.

Day 13

Mabayu is practicing her fighting skills on everyone's favorite blue drum. Mabayu, with a pleased look on her face, asks how she did and points out where her scissors managed to stick into the oil drum. Homura asks if this will help to defeat witches, but Mabayu whimpers a bit as she admits it likely won't. She throws her hands up in exasperation as she asks the heavens above why she should even be training. Even she has to admit she's not much better than the last time she practiced with the drum, especially since she's more of a support type rather than an attack type. Homura explains their magic is powered by their prayers. If she's reluctant to fight, then she won't get the desired results. Mabayu reluctantly admits it's true, then wonders out loud what her reason is for fighting for her life like this. Homura tells her that's obvious: to make Homura's wish come true and get out of this time loop. There's no need for her to think of unnecessary thing and she should just focus on improving her magic. For now, she should keep practicing until she's able to easily slice the drum in two. Mabayu looks crestfallen as she asks Homura if she's not really a demon.

Day 15

Mabayu and Homura stare down at Charlotte. This time they won't be using any time stops and aim on finishing it off as quickly as possible. Mabayu nods confidently and goes first. She dodges all of Charlotte's attacks perfectly except for the final one. Homura calls out to her but Mabayu assures her she's okay. She's already seen this in a future vision, although she admits she should still be careful. Mostly she's just determined to not let the witches suffer needlessly. Mentally she apologizes to Nagisa as she slices up Charlotte's small body. The witch soon transforms into its second stage, however, and goes straight after Mabayu. Mabayu is transfixed at the scene until Homura steps in and quickly throws several bombs at the witch. Charlotte is quickly destroyed as its barrier dissipates.

Back in the hospital, the two detransform as Homura asks if she's alright. Shakily, Mabayu thanks her. However, once more she considers to herself what her reason for fighting even is. Is she risking her life just to prevent future misfortune?

Day 16

As they stand in his empty hospital room, Mabayu asks Sayaka Miki what she was going to wish for. Sayaka looks down and admits it was to heal Kyosuke Kamijo's hand. As Mabayu goes through the motions, she asks herself if maybe she's doing all of this to avoid repeating her past mistakes. Mabayu takes out her scissors. Sayaka is thinking about the painful conversation she just had, and just like that with the sound of a snip the film of her memories is cut.

Day 32

Outside, Walpurgisnacht cackles eerily as Mabayu continues to question her reason for fighting. Perhaps it was to protect the people of this town, but she knows she's just not that kind of person. She's more likely to run away at the first sign of trouble. Homura asks Mabayu to look into her future, then asks for the verdict.

It's no good. Homura nods. Even if they were able to gather more grief seeds and more efficiently than last time, it still wasn't enough for the two of them to take her down. Even so, Homura plans on struggling ot the very end as she begins the fight with Walpurgisnacht.

Mabayu watches her. Even though she knows that this future is not destined to lead to victory, she still continues to fight for this world until the very last moment. Even in this world, fate repeates itself. Homura cries out as Walpurgisnacht manages to land a brutal hit on her.

Madoka and Kyubey watch from the sidelines as the terrible battle rages on. Madoka continues her conversation with Kyubey, asking if it's really true she can do something, can she really change this ending? Mabayu watches as once more, over and over again, Madoka glows with a pink light as she vows to change the future. And once more, she becomes Kriemhild Gretchen after defeating Walpurgisnacht.

Homura looks around in tears as Mabayu wonders if maybe she's doing all this just to prevent Madoka's contract or just to escape this loop. She shakes her head; she knows all of this conjecture isn't a true representation of her thoughts. Homura bids Madoka goodbye then turns her shield, and resets time.
