Actually, what's the policy on article-initial nihongo having unofficial translations? Sazanka no Ato was officially released under the romanized name for western streaming (similarly to Shun no Tsukae Yume no Aza), unlike some other songs, like Ensou/Funeral Song. I'm not aware of any policy on that. I think the way you inserted the translation into the romanization slot is wrong, but we don't necessarily have to put the translation first. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 14:30, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

Maybe this calls for an expansion, then? {{nihongo| Official English | Japanese | Romanization | Unofficial English}}? And 1 and 4 would generally be mutually exclusive; if there's a both an official TL and a prominent unofficial TL it could be done the way I dealt with Ashita's EPF (talk) 14:39, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

The majority of MagiReco stories don't have an official TL, and the majority isn't in Exedra. A good chunk of those MagiReco stories will never be released in Exedra, and thus in English, at all. MagiReco Arc2 fans have the choice of either playing in JP (a lot of us westerners don't know it), or watching MUT's stuff. Someone watching GitH thru their videos would then come to the wiki and be confused. Hell, that's how we got Ashita as a minor character, someone familiar with fanTL'd Arc2 didn't realize that Tomorrow Shop and Ashita's is the same shop.

It isn't totally unheard of, anyway. Ace Attorney Investigations 2 was unreleased in the west for 13 years, in the meanwhile a major fanTL was released and that was what the wiki used. Official TL came around, they renamed the articles, left redirects, and left unofficial translated names in the Ethymology section. Before the EN release, they just had warning boxes on top of the page saying it's all based off fanTL. Our wiki mixes official and unofficial translations in a logistic nightmare. EPF (talk) 15:31, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

Yeah, I was not aware of the gloss parameter. That seems like a good choice here. But Wikipedia possibly expanding it is largely the reason why I'm reluctant to edit it, because that means we could just yoink their expansions later if we need to; but if it was edited, we'd lose the edits doing that. ~ Celtic Minstrel (talk) 17:48, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
