Description

Secret Project Revealed 02.jpg

In a separate time axis
from the one where Madoka became an extra-dimensional entity.
There, five magical girls still fought against the witches.

They still try to defeat every witch and familiar of this world,
as well as Walpurgisnacht.
Yes, in this time axis,
In order to defeat the witches, the five have become one.

Despair and prayer.
Reality and parallel reality.
Trust and betrayal.
A moment and an eternity.

Your will, and the determination of the five magical girls
will become one
in order to fulfill the wishes of all time.

In this time axis' world, will Mami be saved?
Will it end without Madoka's disappearance?

Come forth, with the world-saving wish in your heart,
Embark on a journey, hand in hand with the five magical girls.

Gameplay style

Secret Project Strategy-p Header.jpg
The Home/Lobby UI.

The game is centered around the anime story. Players will be allowed to create their own magical girl, and form a team with the original five magical girls from the cast. Kyubey is not playable, but exists as an instructor who explains when events occur. The game will feature a 6 player party system, using your original character or the cast characters. Parties can be made of any combination of original characters and cast characters (pending future updates that will implement co-op features).

Players can freely travel around Mitakihara alone or with a party as they finish quests, in a way similar to 'Sugoroku'. There will be quests centered around past and future magical girls. Certain quests may require certain cast characters, or a certain amount of players. Players will be put into separate servers in the game and each instance only contains up to 6 players at a time. When each player finishes all their quests, they may participate in a massive raid against Walpurgis Night that exceeds 6 players (not yet implemented). As the player progresses through the game, their apparel will become stronger and level up as they combine items to create better ones. The game is free-to-play with an item store.

There are 6 parts which can be customized by players. Players can change the weapons, clothes, accessories, and skill cards of their magical girls. Rare clothes and accessories may also improve her abilities. Even the 5 main cast magical girls can change weapons in game. Special finishing move attacks however, can only be used by the player's character and their respective canon characters (e.g. Gun type special attacks can only be used by players and Homuhomu), so if the player wants to use the special attack cards, he will have to equip the canon characters with their original weapons.

Story

You are a newly contracted magical girl. After fighting a familiar, you encountered Mami and her teammates, and were quickly integrated into their circle. Only Homu is as cryptic as ever, and somewhat of a spoil sport. She thinks you could be her secret weapon against Walpurgis.

Together, you and your new friends do heroic things like rescuing puppies from a barrier. Madoka wonders whether witches really kiss their victims. You try on cute clothes and exchange weapons. Life is good, but you never know if there's an episode 3 around the corner...

See Madoka Magica Online Story for in-game dialogue.

Getting Started

There are four worlds (servers): ローズ (Rose), シルバー (Silver), ダーク (Dark), and シャドウ (Shadow). Once you choose one, your account will be locked in to it. For a list of players on each world, see the Meguca Online Spreadsheet, which also contains the Suffering Calculator and Weapon Damage Calculator.

Gameplay Mechanics

Level1mumi.jpg
There are special promotions in which you can get exclusive items such as these CP cards.

Party and Skill Card

  • Always make sure that you have inserted any newly acquired party members before starting a quest. N-class party members and the level you acquire them is as follows; Lv.2 Homura, Lv.5 Sayaka, Lv.10 Kyoko, Lv.15 Madoka, Lv.20 Mami-san.
  • You will also receive an R-class clone of your party member after reaching these levels; Lv.25 Homura, Lv.30 Sayaka, Lv.35 Kyoko. They will have higher stats than your original megucas, and putting the same character (e.g. both R-class and N-class Homus) in your party is possible.

Stats

  • A point of attack increases damage dealt by 1. Defense decreases damage taken by 1. Defense becomes better as your defense total becomes larger relative to the opponent's attack: 100 defense reduces a 1000 hit to 900 (10%) but it reduces a 200 hit to 100 (50%).
  • For normal questing, a DEF stat skill card is recommended because the stage boss usually posses high HP, deals low damage per hit, and targets the character with the most HP every time.
  • For PvP, battles usually end up being one-hit KO attacks so increasing your ATK to one-hit as many of your opponent in the shortest time is the best strategy. Once you're able to one-shot opponents, add HP instead of defense, since the larger HP values are most effective against one or two incoming hits.
  • Weapon damage formula: ((Level - 1) x 4 / 29 + 1) x initial value. At maximum level (30) this is five times its initial attack.
  • Weapons come in various grades, which have different initial attack levels. The number of gem slots is also randomized, and gem slots can be added while upgrading a weapon.
  • The following are some example effective health values (to kill a character, you must deal pre-mitigation damage equal to her effective health):
    • N-Homu lv 21: 796HP + 159DEF = 955EH, so you'll need at least 955 ATK to one-shot her.
    • R-Homu lv 1: 847HP + 170DEF = 1017EH
    • N-Madoka lv 18 with a +HP card: 970HP + 158DEF = 1128EH
    • Player lv 25 with Madoka CP and a scarf: 1220HP + 251DEF = 1471EH
    • If you're using all RR gear, a level 16 weapon with an ATK card can one-shot the first two or three examples depending on grade.
  • It's speculated (not yet confirmed) that critical hits ignore the enemy's defense stat.
  • SS characters have 325 atk, 325 def, 1386 hp.

Quests

  • Click the target icon at the top of the screen to begin questing. The grief seed over the city leads to a list of quests.
  • You've got 50 max AP. It takes 10 AP to do a quest. AP regenerates 1 per 5 minutes. You also get full AP upon level up. If you have spare AP when you're close to leveling, spend it in battle mode so it won't be wasted.
  • The experience points obtained from each maze increases with the stage level, for example for level 1 the exp. is 100, level 2 is 110, and level 3 is 120.
  • If you fail a quest, the amount of coins and exp you get is proportional to the amount of damage you did to the boss.
  • Defense is an effective stat against powerful bosses. Consider stacking defense if you're having trouble beating a level.
  • In PvE, enemies will attack the character with the highest current HP.
  • A World is a questing area whose levels are A-1, A-2, etc and feature more powerful versions of the bosses of previous areas. This is a permanent addition to the game, but you can receive a limited time only exclusive green dress for beating A-5 by September 26 (dress to be delivered on October 3). A levels give as much experience as the regular levels they are based off.
    • A-1 boss: 511 attack, 788 defense, 34804 hp, 3 attacks per turn
    • A-2 boss: 544 attack, 934 defense, 56040 hp, 4 attacks per turn

Battle Mode/PvP

  • To obtain purple kyupons (better chance to get rare cards) in large numbers, the player will have to use "play with others/battle mode" (accessible from the home screen, costs 10AP per play), which is similar to PvP (opponents are the characters of other players, but they're controlled by NPC AI).
  • The number of cards received increases with the number of players defeated and the current rank level, and the rank level point is obtained by defeating at least one player per play. The player will also obtain coins that could be used to upgrade weapons.
  • Rank points required to increase the rank level is; Rank C:200, Rank B:500, Rank A:900.
  • Players are encouraged to only leave one person in the party when not playing, so as to allow other players to win easily in the "play with others" match. This is called ソロ放置 or 紳士放置 by the elevenese players. No penalty will be given if your character lost.
    • To prevent accidentally going into battle with only 1 party member, changing your character's weapon (or clothes) so it stands out in the lobby screen will help to remind you to rearrange your party.
    • There is a trick for making it easier to reassemble your party. First, make a bookmark of the current client browser. Second, open the bookmark using your browser, which should not open a new window. You will now have two clients open, open the "party management" tab using both clients. Using the first client, disband your party, click "apply" then close the client. Using the second client, only "rearrange" the order of your party member (e.g swap homu and sayaka from 2nd to 3rd slot) which will still keep all equipped cards on the party member. You can now only click "apply" when you return to play the game later, and your party settings will be restored. ***NOTE: Disconnection however could cause the original party configuration to be lost.
  • In PvP, both sides will always target the character with the lowest defense, so you want your characters with better weapons to have some defense. You want your characters with the weakest weapons to have attack or HP cards.
  • One random character in the player's party will always attack first, so making sure all your party members could 1-kill the opponent is a good strategy.
  • When several parties land on the same space, your opponent will be selected according to the order in which they appeared in the PvP selection menu where you chose opponents. The ones higher in the list go first, so if there's two parties of 1 and one party of 6, choose a party of 6 from the bottom of the list so you'll fight the party of 1 first.
  • Characters with special attacks triggering will attack earlier than characters in the same party using regular attacks. This can be used to affect the order in which your girls attack, so you can make your lowest defense character strike first.

Equipment and Upgrading

  • You can't change the clothes of the canon magical girls. You can equip them with accessories. If you manage to find enough glasses, you could give them to everyone. However, a bikini, for example, can only be used by player-made characters.
  • It is advisable to upgrade your weapon with as much material weapon cards as you can to save on coins. Upgraded weapons if used as a material will provide extra weapon upgrade exp points, but with a large penalty.
    • For example, upgrading a weapon with many other weapons at the same time is much cheaper than upgrading it with one at a time since you get a discount (maximum 25%) for bulk upgrades and it's more expensive to upgrade higher level weapons than lower level ones.
    • Since upgrading higher level items is more expensive, using mid-level items to upgrade high level ones is more efficient than using low level ones. You can combine your level 1 items into level 7 items and upgrade your level 12 weapon with the 7's instead of the 1's to drastically reduce the coin cost. For example, upgrading a 9RR with a 6RR gives 507exp for 2700 coins, while upgrading it with six 1RR's gives 600 exp for 10800 coins.
    • But it will come with an exp penalty, for example; the base card is RR and you upgrade using a single N card, if the N card is lvl 1 the exp you gain is 70, and if the N card lvl is 7 the exp is 430. But to upgrade an N card to level 7 you need to use 840 exp (9 N cards, which will give 810 exp to R cards). So only resort to this if you are low on coins.
    • Higher quality cards get more exp from other high quality cards. For example, an RR gets 70exp from a 1N, 90 from a 1R, and 100 from a 1RR. Use the high quality cards you're not going to equip to upgrade your best weapons, and use low quality cards to upgrade low level items.
    • The Japanese wiki's synthesis page (google translated) contains tables with exact values. (Click here for Japanese)

Gems

Gems are not yet implemented, but will eventually be socketable into the circles at the tops of weapon cards. The help note in the lower right indicates that there will be red, blue, green and yellow gems, and that gems can always be removed.

Equipment Sources

You can get kyupons (variety tickets, coupons with the Kyu from Kyubey) from questing, pvp, or the cash shop. Kyupons can be reedeemed at the Kyubey BOX for items. Brown kyupons can give you all kinds of items, purple ones give R quality or better and have a chance to give limited-time-only prizes, and premium kyupons always give items of at least RR quality. Make sure you have free inventory space and nothing in your presents tab (in the history screen) before using the Kyubey BOX.

Items can also be acquired by beating bosses, opening treasure chests while questing, and completing achievements. See the Japanese wiki's quest page for details.

  • Swimsuits are limited time only prizes from the purple (limited) kyupons.
  • Red glasses (the teacher's style) come from farming quest 1-4.
  • Black glasses come from the Kyubey BOX.
  • Green and yellow clothes were found in quests 3-1 and 2-5.

Prize rates from the Kyubey BOX:

Kyupon Type SS chance S chance RR chance R chance N chance
Premium (gold) 1% 7% 92% 0% 0%
Limited (purple) 0.35% 2.35% 29.64% 67.66% 0%
Regular (brown) ?% ?% ?% ?% ?%

Current card totals:

Card Type Total N Total R Total RR Total S Total SS
Weapon 51 39 38 19 16
Clothes 10 12 7 4 7
Accessory 7 19 14 9 2
Skill 44 47 64 16 11

Achievements

  • You get purple kyupons for clearing a quest within 2 turns for most of the earlier quests. If you can kill the boss in one round in earlier levels, you can get kyupons for completing these achievements.
  • You get bonuses such as coins, variety kyupons, and weapons for clearing stages multiple times. For level 1 you need to clear 3 times, level 2: 5 times, level 3: 7times, level 4: 10 times.

Special Attack Skill Card

  • Skill cards with 0/0/0 stats allow the player's character or the character on the card to use special attacks if they're using a weapon that matches the character on the card. For example, give Sayaka or your character a sword and a Sayaka skill card and she will activate her skill randomly. A S,SS-level skill card however have two types, a single target attack card (必殺技(単体)) that could also be equipped by the player and a AOE attack type (全体必殺技) that could only be used by the character on the card.
    • AOE attacks appear to deal about 1/4 as much damage as normal hits before accounting for defense.

Other

  • While rolling dice, if you let the timer run out, in pvp the game will roll for you. On a Godoka roll it will take whatever is highlighted when the timer runs out (1 is highlighted by default).

Future Updates

  • Mid-September: Addition of special quests, ranking feature between those in your friend list.

Technical Specifications

  • Download-free flash browser game
  • Browsers supported: Internet Explorer 7 or higher, Firefox 3 or higher, and Google Chrome 3 or higher.
  • Adobe Flash Player

Troubleshooting

  • If you get the error pictured below while trying to open a Kyubey BOX, your inventory is full. You can have at most 30 of each type of card (weapons, clothes, accessories, skills). Sell some to make room, and then open the history screen from the lobby (icon: papers with quill pen). Go to the packages tab and collect the card that was withheld due to the inventory being full. After clearing your inventory and packages, Kyubey BOXes should work again.
  • If you get an Apache 2/CentOS test page, you may need to use a proxy to bypass IP blocks. Certain blocks only apply to the signup and login areas, so some users have been able to log in with proxies and switch to direct connections after world server selection screen.
  • High server load can cause issues such as being stuck at a loading screen or getting stuck with a grayed out screen while trying to load a menu.
  • The game will load a large cinematic the first time you play. This can cause extended loading times in excess of 5 minutes, and you may need to relaunch the game if your connection to the server fails during loading, causing you to become stuck at the loading screen.
  • The chat and automessage systems don't allow some common characters such as spaces and periods. You'll get an error message if you try to use them.
    • Allowed: ~`!@#&<>=
    • Illegal: .$%^*()-,/':"?-- space
    • Also allowed: :。β★◆●【】※・ー一!)(「」┃○‐
  • If the game will not load after re-logging in after your first time, it might be because of your character name. Try creating a new account with a character name using only 'normal' characters (A-Z, Hiragana, Kanji, Katakana with no spaces, underscores or other funny characters). Might be related to the above point.
  • In-game mail from other players will be automatically deleted after 10 days.
  • Presents from special events are often sent some time after maintenance ends, not immediately after the servers come up.
