Himena Aika (藍家 ひめな Aika Himena) was a playable character in the 2017 mobile game Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story: Magia Record. She was the leader of the Neo-Magius whose members included Hagumu Azumi and Shigure Miyabi.

Doppel Description

SCYLLA (Scylla)

The Doppel of perpetuity.
Its form is a portrait.
The master of this emotion holds mixed feelings towards her Doppel: though she feels a mysterious sense of kinship with it, she’s also frightened by the sense that her heart could be laid bare by looking directly at it. The Doppel responds by putting its master to sleep within the sphere connected to its body, in order to free her from the emotions that so vex her. While she sleeps, it attempts to fulfill her desires by stamping out each and every foe that refuses to understand her. Incidentally, the Doppel’s body is also a mere makeshift form projected from its master’s heart, and changes shape based on her own thoughts. It currently takes the form of a lovelorn wolf seeking its mate. The makeshift form will repeatedly regenerate as long as the sphere and ring remain intact, so caution is a must.

この感情の主は、ドッペルに対して不思議な親近感を覚えながらも、直視すると心を見透かされそうで怖いという複雑な感情を抱いている。それに対してドッペルは、主を悩ませる感情から解放するために体と繋がった球体の中で眠らせてしまうと、主の欲求を満たすために自分の理解者にならない相手をことごとく潰そうする。ちなみにドッペルの体は主の心を映した仮初めの姿で、本人の想いによってその姿が変化し、今は恋人の姿を求めるつがいの狼の姿をしている。仮初めの姿は球体と輪を破壊しない限り再生を繰り返すので、注意が必要。

Himena Aika's Costume Stories

Inspired by Nagisa and the recent events surrounding her, Himena encourages Shigure and Hagumu to let themselves free and relax more, though her cutesy way of words has trouble getting the message across. While Alexandra and Hagamu agree with following Nagisa’s carefree nature, Shigure rejects the idea, prompting Himena to announce negativity as banned. She further elaborates on her idea, by suggesting that everyone gets into their swimsuits and go somewhere new. Though initially caught off guard, the two end up agreeing. At the pool, the normally skittish duo has become more lively, and although they were surprised by the invite, they are glad that their leader suggested such an idea. They then plan about inviting San and Miyuri over. However, Himena soon proves that she still needs to work on considering her words before actually speaking, apparently not realizing how sensitive some of her comments can be.

As a result of her wish, the consciousness or soul of her boyfriend now resides in her mind after he committed suicide, allowing them to mentally communicate. In Arc 2 Another Story Chapter 8, Kanagi confirms his presence, indicating that he is not an illusion or delusion on Himena's part.

Himena's unique magic allows her to "synthesize" or "fuse" the unique magic of other Magical Girls for a limited time (approximately one hour) by making physical contact with each one involved. She can use this ability to transfer one Magical Girl's unique magic to another, such as when she transferred Hagumu Azumi's increased strength against Witches to Shigure Miyabi. In Arc 2 Another Story Chapter 7, she also gains the ability to synthesize magic with inanimate objects, such as Meiyui Chun's illusion magic to a broom. It is shown that she can borrow at least up to six different powers, though it takes a lot of magic to do so.

Etymology

  • The characters of her last name mean "indigo" (藍) and "house" (家) respectively.

Trivia

  • She is the only character to use a pronoun followed by a suffix that is not her own name. In this case, it means something among the lines of "the cute me", "this cutie" or "my cute self."
  • Before she was formally introduced, she was only known through her silhouette in the Arc 2 logo. Fans referred to her as "Orihime" or just "Hime" due to this silhouette before knowing her name.
    • In addition, her design has some resemblance to the Legend of Orihime (織姫), specifically her hairstyle and traditional Japanese clothing.
    • Furthermore, Hiko, the boyfriend who lives in her head, is speculated by fans to be based on Hoshihiko(星彦) or Hikoboshi(彦星) from that same Japanese fairy tale.
  • Her doppel is named after the Greek monster "Scylla", a legendary monster who lives on one side of a narrow channel of water opposite her counterpart Charybdis. According to a version of the story, Scylla was once a nymph, but as Glaucus loved her, she was transformed into an unsightly monster. In some variants, it was Circe who transformed her as the enchantress loved Glaucus as well.
  • Her weapon is a "heavenly raiment" or "feathered kimono" associated with Tennin, which are beings in Japanese Buddhism that are similar to angels.
  • When she speaks, one can occasionally see stars in the script lines (★).
