Nightmare & Bonus Stories

These stories are framed as possible memories from within the vast tapestry of time and space. Their places in the timeline as well as their canonicity is ambiguous, so these stories are listed as part of the Magia Exedra Universe. The Nightmare and Bonus Stories are all introduced with the following:

Amidst the endless tapestry of time and space, this place was but one of a myriad of possibilities that may have existed.
This story is a little memory quietly tucked away in a corner of that possibility.

Rains Too Shall Pass

Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Sandbox Witch Memory Window.

  • Iroha returns home exhausted after her search for Ui in Kamihama City. She recalls facing a fearsome and strong girl who told her she does not belong there. Too tired to think further, she decides to take a bath and go to sleep, knowing she has school the next day.
    • In her dream, Iroha runs into Yachiyo, who invites her along on a series of errands. They shop for towels and pillows, discuss buying chopsticks and houseplants, and even visit the ward office to pick up a change of address form because Yachiyo casually announces that Iroha will be moving in with her. Iroha is bewildered but goes along with it.
    • On their way to look at Iroha's new school, a sudden sun shower forces them to take shelter. Yachiyo apologizes, admitting she took the long way home hoping something good would happen, but now feels she pushed her luck. When the rain stops, they see a huge rainbow, and Yachiyo smiles gently, surprised by Iroha's excitement. Iroha notes this softer side of Yachiyo.
  • Iroha wakes up in her own room and realizes it was all a dream. She laughs at the absurd idea of living with Yachiyo, but then remembers Yachiyo's gentle face. Deciding that taking the long way might not be so bad, she resolves to leave home a little earlier than usual the next morning.

Proof of Friends Again

Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Rumor of the Commoner's Horse Memory Window.

  • Rena, Kaede, and Momoko meet so Rena can finally apologize for forcing Kaede's dog to do a trick it could not pull off, which led to Rena declaring they were not friends anymore. Kaede forgives her, and Momoko suggests celebrating by using a photo booth together, something they have never done. Rena reluctantly admits she has never used one before, and despite Kaede's teasing, she agrees to go.
    • At the photo booth, Rena accidentally presses the button for a group of five and then panics when the machine prompts them to make funny faces. She refuses, feeling humiliated, and tries to run away, but Kaede keeps asking her to do it. Rena gets upset and starts crying, and the machine takes a picture of her mid cry. She blames Kaede, but then decides she cannot end the experience in tears and insists they finish with a perfect pose to make up for what she did to Kaede's dog. They manage to take one final picture together.
    • When the photos print, Momoko points out that only the last one came out properly, though Rena is frowning and Kaede looks like she is about to cry while Momoko herself is forcing a smile. Rena says to throw it away, but Kaede refuses, saying she cannot toss their first picture together. They all decide to attach the photo to their phone cases, and Momoko declares it is proof that they are friends again.

Tag Team Revenge!

Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Rumor of the Anonymous AI Memory Window.

  • Sana, Felicia, and Tsuruno are playing the concentration card game, and Tsuruno is on a winning streak, much to Felicia's frustration. Sana apologizes for causing their losses, but Felicia insists it is not her fault. Iroha, about to leave for shopping, suggests they try working together instead of playing separately. She whispers a strategy to them: dividing up the duties, such as having each person memorize a different color of cards. Felicia tells Sana that she needs her brains to win, and Sana brightens at being needed.
    • When the game resumes, Tsuruno quickly figures out that Sana is memorizing red cards and Felicia the black ones, but she is impressed by their teamwork. As the game narrows down to the final ten cards, Felicia and Sana huddle to discuss which cards they remember. They realize none of their memorized cards match, so they have to flip new ones at random. On a crucial turn, they both point to the same card, but it turns out to be a four of hearts that does not match anything, allowing Tsuruno to sweep the remaining pairs and win again. Felicia is frustrated, but Sana smiles because she enjoyed teaming up with someone and being needed. Felicia then suggests they play one more time so Sana can experience the fun of winning, and everyone agrees.

Head of the Hotpot's Privilege!

Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Rumor of the Chelation Land Ferris Wheel Memory Window.

  • The Mikazuki Villa gang gathers as Tsuruno announces they will fire up a hotpot outside to bond again after recent hardships, including Felicia running off to the Wings of the Magius and the group briefly breaking up. Tsuruno declares herself head of the hotpot and insists everyone else relax, though Yachiyo, Iroha, Sana, and Felicia feel uneasy sitting idly. Yachiyo reflects that since the recent incident, she has realized she does not fully understand Tsuruno, and even now she has no idea what Tsuruno is thinking.
    • Tsuruno begins adding unusual ingredients: Banbanzai Special Dumplings, pre made Hamburg steak, a failed fried egg turned into scrambled egg, and even a dab of peanut butter. Despite Iroha and Sana's worries, the finished hotpot smells rich and Chinese inspired. Yachiyo recalls that peanut butter can bring out the flavor of Chinese dishes, and everyone agrees the meal is delicious, with the egg adding a mellow touch to the spicy broth. Felicia gives it 120 out of 100 and jokes that Tsuruno should open a hotpot shop.
    • Yachiyo notices Tsuruno has not eaten yet and urges her to have her fill. Tsuruno then reveals her true plan: she asks Yachiyo to feed her a bite, explaining that she wants to be pampered and would hate for their relationship to change because of everything they have been through. Even though Tsuruno acts like a big sister to Felicia and the others, she will always want special attention from Yachiyo. Yachiyo giggles and feeds her, and Tsuruno declares this the privilege reserved for the head of the hotpot. Yachiyo muses that Tsuruno never grows up, and hopes that someday, when they are all grown, they will still be as close as they are now, with Yachiyo herself taking the role of head of the hotpot.

Tension and Ties

Unlocked as the Bonus Story of the Two Hands in Harmony event.

  • Tsukasa finishes the laundry and is about to start homework when her father tells her they are having ten extra guests for dinner. She protests that she does not have the ingredients, and her father uncharacteristically drops the argument quietly. Later, Take, an apprentice at the workshop, notices Tsukasa's father seems down. He investigates and discovers that yesterday was the father's birthday, and no one celebrated it. Take concludes that her father is sulking because Tsukasa never wished him a happy birthday.
    • Tsukasa feels guilty but also angry at her father for making her so busy. She decides to make him a bento box filled with his favorite foods as a subtle, belated birthday wish, but she struggles to remember what he likes. She recalls that when she was little, she made meatball bento for him, and he patted her head and praised her. She decides to make that.
  • The next day, Tsukasa gives her father the bento and wishes him a happy birthday, telling him to cheer up. Just then, Take rushes in and admits he got the wrong end of the stick and the father was only distracted by work, not upset about his birthday. Tsukasa shouts at Take, but her father sees the meatball bento and, though he grumbles about wasting money, Take reminds him that this was the first bento Tsukasa ever made for him. The other apprentices tease Take about not having a girlfriend, and Tsukasa reflects that despite the oppressive traditions of the workshop, moments like this make it not all doom and gloom.

Unlocked as the Bonus Story of the Two Hands in Harmony event.

  • Tsukuyo finishes a koto club rehearsal for an upcoming competition. A junior worries that she looks pale and tired, but Tsukuyo insists she is fine. Mifuyu, sent by the Koto Club, finds her and insists she rest. Tsukuyo reluctantly agrees and lies down on a bench.
    • While resting, Tsukuyo tells Mifuyu that she cannot pull out of the competition. She admits she joined the club because her grandmother insisted, but now she genuinely loves the koto and the feeling of creating music in unison. She says this may be the last time she ever feels the desire to give her all to something, given that she is bound to a life not of her choosing. Mifuyu promises to support her on the day of the competition.
  • On the day of the competition, the results are announced, and Mizuna Girls' Academy wins the grand prize. Tsukuyo collapses from exhaustion. She wakes up to find her grandmother watching over her. The grandmother scolds her for not looking after her health but praises her performance and says she has high expectations for Tsukuyo's future. Tsukuyo reflects that although the old traditions of her house oppress her and her resentment will only grow stronger, she cannot quite bring herself to begrudge her koto lessons entirely.

The Best Moment

Unlocked as the Bonus Story of the Eternal Summer Days Part I event.

Madoka comes down next, a bit scared but having fun, and they move on to the next slides.
    • After riding most of the slides, only the longest and fastest one remains. Madoka and Sayaka are intimidated by its speed, but Mami decides to go anyway, admitting she is nervous but wants to rise to the challenge. She also secretly wants to show off a bit in front of her juniors. At the top, her nerves catch up with her, but once she starts, she finds the speed exhilarating. They agree to go together that weekend, and Madoka eagerly anticipates the trip, wondering how big the park will be and thinking about practicing for an upcoming swim test after they have fun.
  • On the day of the water park trip, Madoka, Sayaka, and Mami arrive and are amazed by the park's scale, with many types of pools and water slides. They warm up, explore the pools, and laugh together, though Madoka forgets her plan to practice for the swim test. After the park closes, Madoka realizes she only played and feels anxious about the test. Mami suggests they go to the municipal pool the next day to practice, and both Sayaka and Madoka agree. They end the day by sharing what they enjoyed most, with Madoka saying the best part was having fun with her friends.

What's Hot for Summer

Unlocked as the Bonus Story of the Eternal Summer Days Part II event.

  • At the water park, after swimming and enjoying the attractions, Madoka, Sayaka, and Mami take a break at a rest area filled with couples. They discuss what kind of date they would go on at the park. Mami says she would enjoy a relaxed, unrushed time with pleasant conversation. Madoka says she would go on a water slide together for the thrill. When they ask Sayaka, she absentmindedly says, "Drifting in a swim ring made for two," then realizes she said that out loud and becomes mortified as Mami teases her about having a crush. Sayaka insists they are wrong and hurriedly declares break time over, rushing back to swim while Madoka and Mami decide to give her some space. Sayaka thinks to herself that maybe one day she will get a chance, but then dismisses the thought.

A Brief Treat

Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Blessed Witch Memory Window.

  • Touka suddenly announces that the leadership of the Wings of the Magius is taking the day off, despite Mifuyu and Nemu's concerns that they cannot afford to rest when they are so close to their goal. Touka insists that rest improves performance and brings out board games they used to play in the hospital, including a four player roll and move game that requires Alina to join. Mifuyu is surprised Alina agrees so readily.
    • During the game, Mifuyu lands on a dare square that forces her to wear a school uniform, which Alina had secretly added to the board and even prepared in Mifuyu's size. Mifuyu finds it mortifying but also realizes she has won, something she never did against Touka and Nemu in the past. She suspects they let her win, though they deny it. Alina performs surprisingly poorly at the game.
    • Mifuyu steps out briefly to handle something, and when she returns, she hears a loud thud from the room. She rushes back to find Touka trying to move a sofa by herself while Nemu scolds her, and Alina points out that Mifuyu is already there. Caught in the act, Touka explains they wanted to surprise Mifuyu with a relaxation session as a reward for all her hard work, and the board games were just the opening act. Alina then instructs Mifuyu to lie down on the sofa so she can give her an acupressure massage, which she has been researching to help maintain Mifuyu's figure.
    • As Alina presses the acupressure points, Mifuyu screams in pain while Alina laughs with delight. Nemu notes that this was supposed to be a reward for Mifuyu, but Alina seems to be having all the fun. Touka says that is fine because it can be a reward for both of them, and Nemu agrees that this time is a reward for everyone. Touka adds that the real reward will come once they are free.

Magical Kawaii Duo

Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Witch of Good Fortune Memory Window.

Karin explains that Kamihama City is in shambles due to the ongoing crisis, and although she wanted to team up with Alina to evacuate or fight, she cannot find her anywhere. Ashley and Karin realize they need to stop the Familiars before the town and the sacred spot are destroyed.
    • They decide to team up, but there are too many Familiars. When they spot a civilian who has not escaped in time, Ashley comes up with an idea to fight using Magical Kirin Respect, recreating a famous scene from the series where two heroes team up to defeat an enemy together. Karin agrees, noting that her scythe can fly so they can perfectly recreate the scene. They introduce themselves as Magical Karin and Magical Ashley, declaring that they will defeat the vile kawaii haters, and successfully drive off the Familiars.
    • After the fight, they find the civilian girl unharmed but unconscious. Karin decides to fly her to the evacuation shelter on her scythe, then continue searching for Alina. She says that is what Kirin would do, and she is sure Alina will be okay. Ashley agrees to go get information from the Coordinator, and they promise to take the Magical Kirin pilgrimage together once everything is over.

We Keep Going Together

Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Witch of Good Fortune Memory Window.

  • As life returns to normal after the crisis with Eve and Walpurgisnacht, Touka and Nemu tell Ui that they want to do something to put a smile on Iroha's face as thanks for everything, separate from any attempt to atone for their sins. Ui thinks it is a great idea, but when Touka suggests hiring a top chef and Nemu insists on a simple peaceful time together, they start fighting. Ui cries, saying she hates fighting now that they are finally better and can all laugh together. Touka and Nemu apologize and agree to start over from the beginning. Ui suggests they go ask the Mikazuki Villa girls for advice, despite Touka and Nemu's reluctance.
    • At Mikazuki Villa, Yachiyo tells them that the reason they should work it out themselves is because that is exactly what would make Iroha happy. Tsuruno and Sana agree that Iroha really cares about them, and Felicia points out that is just how Iroha is. Yachiyo adds that the proof is right in front of them: they are there because Iroha has done so much for them, which shows how much she cares. Touka and Nemu have no response.
  • The next day, after taking Yachiyo's advice, the three of them come up with a plan on their own: they will make bento lunch boxes and have a picnic at the site of the Eternal Sakura. They lead a blindfolded Iroha to the spot, then reveal the surprise. Ui explains that they all love Iroha and know how much stress they have caused her, so they wanted to say thank you and show how much they care. Iroha is overjoyed, and they spend a wonderful time eating and reading books that Nemu brought. Ui writes in her diary that she hopes these fun days with her favorite people will last forever.

Iroha mentions wheelchair accessible areas for Nemu. Realizing how much they are all looking forward to it, Sakurako agrees to go. Later, she sees Ryo Midori taking a photograph and learns that photos immortalize memories so people can look back on them. Sakurako gets an idea.
  • At the festival, Sakurako explains that she borrowed a camera from Ryo, who is in the newspaper club, for photography practice. Touka notes that Sakurako has a section in the Midori Report, and Ui enjoys reading about her school activities. Nemu says Sakurako has grown thanks to her friend. Sakurako takes a photo of the group and says she will thank Ryo by showing her the photos, knowing Ryo will be happy too. Ui encourages her to take lots and lots of photos.

Mel tells Yachiyo that when she wakes up, she will feel a warm glow of nostalgia but also a little conflicted. Yachiyo then realizes that in reality, Mel and Kanae could never be chatting together like this because Kanae is already gone. She concludes this must be a dream.
    • In the dream, Kanae explains that ghosts have licenses, and if they meddle too much with the living, they get suspended. Mel came because she worried Yachiyo seemed zoned out. Yachiyo says her days have been fun and peaceful, and that seeing them makes this the best day in a while. Kanae then sadly notes that Mel is not actually a ghost, because when a Magical Girl becomes a Witch, her soul fades away and cannot become a ghost. However, Kanae brought Mel's lingering thoughts from before she became a Witch. Mel panics about their licenses being suspended if they stay longer, so they hurry off, telling Yachiyo to keep smiling until the next time they meet. Kanagi also agrees that Mitama should go home, at least to see her sister. Mitama finally gives in and says she will go home that day. Kanagi suggests buying a little gift, and Mitama decides on a mixed bag of candies since Mikage loves sweets.
    • Mitama and Kanagi go to the supermarket. Mitama picks out chocolate cigarettes for nostalgia, kinako candies because they are cheap and filling, and then considers some fancy new gummies. She decides the gummies are too trendy for a gift but buys them as a treat for herself that she will share with Mikage. They also grab Yosha noodles, which come with prizes, and each pick one. Both turn out to be duds, but they hope Mikage's will be lucky. Mitama does a surprisingly good impression of Mikage's excited voice. Sumire explains that Yachiyo and Mifuyu treat them like little sisters, so Momoko decides she will act like a big sister instead.
  • Another day, Momoko brings ingredients and makes hamburg steak for everyone. Yachiyo and Mifuyu try to pamper her again, offering dessert and even attempting to spoon feed her. Momoko tries to act mature, offering her lap for Mifuyu to nap on, but falls asleep herself. Later, when Yachiyo bumps her head, Momoko pats it and says a childhood rhyme, but turns red with embarrassment. She develops a fever from overthinking, so Yachiyo insists she stay the night. • Madoka thinks about where Homura would go. She recalls Homura being considerate and observant, such as setting the table for Mami or finding Sayaka's missing pen. Madoka realizes that Homura would predict where Madoka would be, so the best strategy is to wait somewhere easy to spot. She asks the group to wait near the entrance line at the shrine.
