Timeline/Original/Other
Whether some of the following like the Farewell Story may have occurred between Scene 0 and the Final Timeline, others such as Summer Magical Girl Training Camp are almost certainly not canon to them. Cases such as the latter are regarded as Alternate Universes altogether, where the circumstances of the characters are entirely different from the main continuity. In this case, the term canon refers to the continuity of the original anime, and non-canon often refers to a different version of Homura causing and experiencing them.
Also included are the Alt-Universe stories introduced in Magia Exedra, as well as several of the more comedic takes on the Holy Quintet, and the smaller stories released with Kirara Magica. As it stands, all the entries in this article are regarded as separate Alternate Universes.

Oriko Magica
The following is a summary of the major events and timelines depicted in Oriko Magica and its characters, including the backstories of the relevant characters and the different continuities explored across its spin-offs.
The Recent Past
- Lina Hitomi's fraternal twin brother Mana is killed by a car while the two were on their way from school. As their parents had broken up before the two's birth, and that Lina had more of a resemblance to their father, their mother blames Lina under the false pretense that Mana had been protecting her. Their mother would grieve Mana's loss for many years and keep blaming her despite Lina's attempts to emulate him.[1]
- Oriko Mikuni's mother, Yurako dies in a car accident and Oriko attends her funeral, where people gossip about her not crying. Oriko resolves to remain strong for her father, but this causes him to feel inadequate and focus instead on his political career.[2]
- Erika Mamiya, Kirika Kure's childhood friend, shoplifts from a mall, flees and leaves Kirika, who was innocent, to be blamed by the cops instead.[3]
- Around the same time, six girls in Kazamino become Magical Girls:
- Kyubey approaches Lina, who makes a wish to erase Mana from her mother's memories.[1]
- Mio Suzuna and Futaba get into an accident during a family trip, which has Futaba get a scar on her face, and leaves Mio comatose. A few months later, Futaba makes a contract with Kyubey to wake Mio up. Later Mio also makes a contract to erase Futaba's scar from the accident, giving her the power to eliminate sound and presence to stealthily blend in with her surroundings.[1]
- Miyako Saki is approached by Kyubey to become a Magical Girl. Seeing as she liked dolls and Magical Girls herself, she struggles to come up with a wish until she settles on having her short hair to become long and straight like a typical Magical Girl's. She gains the power to manipulate inanimate objects, like the dolls she fights with.[1]
- Mai Akane is a member of the kendo club at her school, and she is really close to her grandfather. As he has a terminal illness, Mai makes a contract with Kyubey to have her grandfather see her match despite his illness. The resulting power is the ability to extend range, which she utilizes by having the reach of her katana be larger than its actual length.[1]
- Hating everyone who could be better than her, Sasa Yuuki makes a contract with Kyubey for those who are better than her to follow her every command. With the resulting magic of mind control, Sasa starts controlling Witches in Kazamino and feeding humans to them to farm Grief Seeds.[1]
- During a fire in Shiromi Middle School, Komaki Asako makes her contract with Kyubey to protect herself and her friends Akira Namekata and Miyuki Nagatsuki from it.[4]
- One day, Oriko decides to investigate a rumored ghost haunting the school during festival preparations after the overwhelmed student council fails to act. She interviews students and collects testimonies of a pale apparition on video, a crying voice behind the gymnasium, a mysteriously tidied stage, and footsteps in an empty gymnasium. While investigating near the gymnasium, she encounters Komaki, who she assumed hated her, who is also looking into the ghost to stop the rumors from interfering with the festival preparations.[5]
- The two team up and visit the hallway where the apparition was seen, and later they pass a friend of Komaki's who praises Komaki's acting, noting her performance has grown from shouting to sounding like real crying. At the yard where the crying voice was heard, Oriko notices Komaki acting suspiciously, and at the gymnasium they find sheet music left out by the choir, which Komaki insists on tidying while complaining about the choir's lack of morals. When Komaki tries to end the investigation, Oriko announces she has uncovered the mystery: the ghost is Komaki herself. The pale apparition was Komaki running to the school store in her white dress, the crying voice was Komaki rehearsing her lines alone in the yard, the footsteps were Komaki running away to avoid being seen practicing, and the tidied stage was Komaki cleaning up after other clubs. Komaki admits everything and begs Oriko not to tell her classmates, but Oriko laughs, finding it funny that the rumors were about a kind, hard working ghost. Komaki says she likes Oriko better this way, as she normally seems stuck up.[5]
- Kirika runs a life where her days are dull and empty, filled with superficial conversations and fake friendships. One day, while picking up money she had dropped, Oriko is the only one to help her. Kirika wants to ask if they can be friends, but the girl's companion warns against associating with students from other schools, thus Kirika believes she is not good enough for that kind girl.[6]
- Kyubey offers to grant any wish in exchange for making her a Magical Girl. Unsure what she truly wants, she initially considers wishing to become a different person. But she realizes that is not her real desire.
- She makes her wish to change, as to be worthy of Oriko, but as a result forgets why she made the wish to begin with. Her personality changes and she becomes more cheerful and able to tolerate shallow conversations, yet she remains bored and directionless. Kyubey tells her that forgetting might have been what she needed, or perhaps a side effect of the wish.
- Afterwards, while hunting Witches, Kirika begins provoking and attacking other Magical Girls for amusement.
- At some point, Oriko's father Hisaomi Mikuni commits suicide after he is set up by Kenzaburo Yaegashi, with everyone believing he was embezzling funds from the government of Mitakihara City and Oriko fiding his body hanging in his study.[7]
- Oriko's family's former image crumbles, and she loses her sense of purpose and will to live. She isolates herself in her room, also forgotten by her family.[7]
- Sasa's actions prompt the other girls in Kazamino to form a group together, which is lead by Lina, and the last one to join being Miyako. The other girls fight Sasa and her Witches, and after they have her surrounded, she cries and pleads for sympathy as a weak Magical Girl. Mio is doubtful, but Futaba approaches her and offers friendship. Sasa then takes her hostage and runs away with her. Once they're far enough, Sasa takes her Soul Gem and breaks it, unknwingly killing her and leaving her body on the street. While Sasa decides to flee to Mitakihara until the situation calms down in Kazamino, Lina's group decides to pursue her for revenge and soon deduce she must've gone to Mitakihara.[1]
Oriko Magica: Extra Story
A timeline that shows Oriko, Kirika and Yuma's experiences without the involvement of Homura. Due to her absence, it is possible this is what happens to the group in the first timeline, or in every timeline prior to the one where Oriko sees Gretchen in her visions. For the sake of convenience, the details of this timeline are listed here.[8] It is depicted in:

Oriko worries about Kirika, who hasn’t sent her usual lunchtime texts, but Sasa reassures her.
- At home, Yuma’s mother kicks her into a dresser, breaking a vase on her head. Meanwhile, Oriko fails to reach Kirika by phone and sees a vision of Yuma injured. She rushes out and finds her hurt in the park. Yuma refuses medical help and Oriko leaves Yuma with Sasa to instead search for Kirika. Sasa suddenly attacks Oriko but is knocked away by Kirika. Sasa reveals her brainwashing magic and the two fight her and her Witches. Sasa panics and tries to use Yuma as a shield, but Oriko tells her about Magical Girls becoming Witches. Sasa destroys her own Soul Gem, refusing to become a Witch, and dies. Kyubey appears and offers Yuma a contract, but Oriko stops him and comforts Yuma.

- While walking through town, they overhear Yuma happily speaking with her grandparents, now away from her abusive mother and with Oriko's prediction of Yuma's death averted.
- Oriko bakes a sponge cake for Kirika, Erika goes to visit her grandmother, and Yuma has a picnic with her grandparents when the radio announces a supercell warning and evacuation for Mitakihara. Yuma hopes Oriko wins her battle and Oriko asks Kirika if she is afraid before facing Walpurgisnacht. Kirika says she isn’t, as her wish has already come true. They head off together to fight, but the details of what happens afterwards are unknown.
Oriko Magica: sadness prayer
One of the many timelines Homura may have created. Kriemhild Gretchen's potential for destruction has reached a point where it changes Oriko's destiny.[9][10] It is depicted in:

- At an unknown point in time, after her father committed suicide, Oriko Mikuni makes a contract with Kyubey, to know the reason why she's alive and gets the power to see the future. She tests her power for the first time and sees a vision of Mitakihara being destroyed by Kriemhild Gretchen. She distracts Kyubey by telling him of Yuma Chitose's potential to become a Magical Girl and oversells her power.
- Oriko is attacked by a Witch and Komaki Asako saves her, revealing she is also a Magical Girl. Oriko pretends not to be a Magical Girl and after Komaki and Kyubey leave, she is attacked by Kirika, who reveals she doesn't remember what her wish was. Oriko manages to ambush Kirika and knock her down. Oriko introduces herself and offers to share the truth about Magical Girls if Kirika becomes her ally.
- In Kazamino, Yuma and her parents are caught in a Witch's Barrier and Kyoko manages to rescue her. Yuma becomes attached to Kyoko and, when Kyubey approaches Yuma for a contract, Kyoko stops him and takes Yuma under her wing. The two go to a hotel to spend the night.

- Sasa Yuuki has made a contract to be able to brainwash others and controls the Witches of Kazamino to cause many deaths. Lina Hitomi's team has lost their friend, Futaba, while chasing Sasa.
- Komaki defeats a Witch and then encounters Kirika, who challenges her. Akira tracks Komaki using a phone app and finds her fighting Kirika as a Magical Girl instead of partying. During the fight, Akira panics and accidentally calls Koito while trying to reach the police. As Kirika moves to kill Komaki, Akira rushes in and is fatally struck, dying in Komaki’s arms. Kirika realizes she has accidentally killed a bystander and then accidentally kills Komaki too. As she's dying, Kyubey visits her and Komaki warns him of a Magical Girl dressed in black.
- Kyubey tells Oriko about a Magical Girl and a normal girl who were murdered. Oriko realizes Kirika is responsible and forgives her. From that day, Kirika changes completely, no longer hesitating to kill Magical Girls for Oriko. Oriko also reveals to Kirika her goal to save the world by eliminating Madoka, though a powerful guardian protects her. Kirika decides to dedicate herself to removing every obstacle.[6]
- Elsewhere, Sasa Yuuki arrives in Mitakihara, amused by rumors of a Magical Girl murdering others, and hopes to tame her to clean up the town.
- At a later point, Oriko finds one of her old notebooks detailing how she found the "ghost" in her old school was actually Komaki. She reflects that ever since she forgave Kirika for accidentally killing Komaki, Kirika has become broken. Kirika retrieves something she forgot and leaves, and Oriko concludes that she cannot stop because saving the world is what gives her life meaning now.[5]
- Lina Hitomi's team fight Sasa, who pretends to surrender and then escapes.
- Oriko attends Komaki and Akira's memorial with Miyuki. Afterward, Oriko meets Kirika and tells her to focus on the future. This causes Kirika to remember her wish and Oriko gets a vision.
- Sasa fights Mio, but she is killed by Kirika and Sasa realizes Kirika is the rumored Magical Girl murderer and tries to escape. Oriko arrives and tells Sasa to listen. Lina's group finds Mio's corpse and vows to stop Sasa to prevent more sacrifices. Sasa, meanwhile, lies to Oriko and Kirika about her past, claiming Lina's group unfairly attacked her. Lina, Mai, and Miyako note police activity over Komaki and Akira’s murders, and Lina suspects someone in Mitakihara is as dangerous as Sasa.
- Sasa uses her Witches to track Lina’s group with Kirika’s reluctant help. Oriko has a vision of the world’s end and identifies Homura Akemi as Madoka's protector.
- Lina and her group meet Kyubey, who warns them to be careful in Mitakihara and updates them about Kazamino being protected by another Magical Girl. Lina decides they need a new plan and they return to their room.
- Sasa and Kirika track Lina's group and later, Kirika bursts into Lina’s room. From a distance, Sasa watches and Oriko reassures her that the surprise attack will reveal a weakness to exploit. Meanwhile, Madoka becomes lost in the same Labyrinth as them.
- Sasa joins Kirika with a Witch under her control. As they fight, Oriko tries to talk to Miyako and reveals her wish to save the world. Lina defeats Sasa and Mai arrives to finish her off, but Oriko stops her. Miyako questions Lina's actions and accuses Lina of causing harm and indirectly causing Futaba's death. This causes Lina to transform into a Witch.
- Miyako is decapitated by Lina, the girls defeat the Witch and Kirika kills Mai. Oriko and Kirika leave as Sasa rants. Madoka appears behind her and Sasa sends her Witch after her. Madoka then faints, but Homura uses a bomb to kill them and saves Madoka.

- Oriko and Kirika go to Kazamino and indirectly help Yuma steal a pocky. After Kyoko defeats a Witch, Yuma gives it to her as a gift. As they head back, Kyubey follows them.
- Oriko and Kirika find Sasa’s secret base and find her stash of Grief Seeds. Oriko is tormented by visions of Yuma being attacked by Cecil and quickly leaves. Kyoko and Yuma have a playful fight and fall asleep, over a pillow, unaware that the Witch from Oriko’s vision is near.
- Kyoko wakes up sensing a Witch and goes to fight her. Yuma wakes up to find Oriko instead of Kyoko, who tells her Kyoko might be dead. Yuma panics and asks Oriko if she knows where Kyoko is, but Oriko challenges her. Yuma runs to the park to find Kyoko. Kirika finds Oriko and Yuma declares she’ll fight and change for herself for her. Oriko convinces Yuma to become a Magical Girl to save Kyoko. Yuma makes a contract and heals Kyoko. Oriko and Kirika leave and when Kyoko finds out Yuma became a Magical Girl, chastises her.
- Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: Mami barely defeats Charlotte and senses another Magical Girl, who turns out to be dead. Kyubey tells Mami that there's a Magical Girl killer.

- Kirika kills another Magical Girl in a Witch’s Barrier, glad that the girl won’t turn into a Witch. In a diner, Mami reads about unexplained deaths of junior high girls and is concerned about Magical Girl disappearances in Kazamino. Kyubey warns her that a Magical Girl may be targeting others, and Mami agrees to investigate. Yuma approaches Mami offering help for her headache, and Kyoko shows up, surprising them both.
- Meanwhile, Kirika talks to Kyubey and denies knowing anything about the killings.
- Oriko meets Koito and assures her that she isn’t at fault for Komaki's death. Koito apologizes for her feelings and thanks Oriko for her support.
- Madoka talks to Sayaka about her strange dreams and unknown encounters with Witches. Mami approaches Homura, but Homura responds coldly. Later, Homura fights Chika Masumi, who mistakes her for the Magical Girl killer and Homura uses her time manipulation to escape.
- During this time, as the online harassment and media intrusion for Koito's family has worsened, a tabloid journalist corners Koito after school and aggressively presses on about the fabricated claims about Komaki and Akira, which causes Koito to panic and flee. Unbeknownst to her, Kirika, under Oriko's orders, helps her escape. However, the encounter triggers a breakdown at home where Koito cries out that those who spread lies and her sister's killer should suffer instead of her. It was in this state that Kyubey introduces himself to her, but she could not yet voice her wish.
- Kirika finds an old notebook belonging to Oriko's father and after reading it, declares Hisaomi an enemy of Oriko.
- Chika tells Kyubey about her encounter with Homura. He plans to recruit more girls, including Chika, Kirika, and Oriko. Kyoko is uninterested until she learns about Oriko, and decides to help to meet her. Kyubey asks Oriko for help in hunting the Magical Girl dressed in black. He reveals that he thinks it’s Homura Akemi.

- While cleaning, Oriko finds an old notebook after Kirika returns from a hunt.
- Kirika happily holds the bunny charm from Oriko, but drops it when a woman bumps into her. Mami notices and helps her find her charm. When Mami mentions a crush, Kirika gets angry, saying that what she feels for Oriko is only love. A Witch appears, and Mami tries to avoid harming Kirika. However, Kirika transforms into the Magical Girl clad in black, who'd been killing other Magical Girls, and attacks Mami. Kirika uses her magic to make the Labyrinth not fade away so she can kill Mami. Mami sets a trap using what she learned of Kirika’s slowdown magic. Mami manages to successfully harm and crack Kirika's Soul Gem, but Oriko, having seen a vision, intervenes and takes Kirika away.
- Kyoko and Yuma meet Kyubey, frustrated by the absence of Mami and Oriko. Mami arrives and explains her battle with Kirika and Oriko. At Oriko’s house, Kirika confesses her true feelings and how she wanted to change herself for Oriko, and Kyubey granted her wish, turning her into the person Oriko knows. Oriko demands Kirika make up for her actions, while Kirika agrees. After tending to Kirika’s wounds, she reads the notebook and finds out about Yaegashi manipulating her father into taking the fall for political reasons.
- Kyoko and Mami discuss their plans and Mami reveals that Homura is not the murderer, but rather Oriko and Kirika. Chika, late to the meeting, meets Oriko, who kills her with an orb after a brief conversation. Oriko goes to confront Yaegashi and is about to attack him, but he insists that her father's death was caused by her own actions. Later, Oriko returns home and breaks down mentally over the revelations. Kirika insists that she will help Oriko hold on to who she is and promises to help fulfill her wish, as Oriko’s wish has been granted through Kirika’s own.
- Kyoko, Mami, and Yuma break into the Mikuni Estate to stop Oriko and Kirika. They cautiously explore and realize Oriko might be using some form of prediction-related power. They only find a bloodied nail as Oriko and Kirika aren't there and instead are playing video games at Kirika's house. Later, Oriko's confronted by a delusion of her younger self, but admits to her own selfishness. In her sleep, Kirika agrees and the illusion fades.

- Oriko visits her uncle Kimihide, discusses her estate with him and confesses on hating him and his aunt. Afterwards, Oriko meets up with Kirika. Kyoko insists that Yuma promises her that if she says "run," Yuma will. Kyubey then arrives and informs them that Oriko and Kirika are near the school.
- Kirika forms a Labyrinth around the school and traps everyone inside. Elsewhere, Koito receives a message about the chaos at school and recognizes Oriko in the picture sent to her. Madoka is surrounded by Familiars, but is saved by Homura, and Mami is captured by the Labyrinth and is saved by Kyoko and Yuma.
- At the Barrier’s center, Homura confronts Oriko and Kirika. Oriko reveals she plans to kill Madoka to prevent her from becoming a Witch capable of destroying the world. Kyoko, Mami, and Yuma arrive, but Kyoko focuses on defeating Oriko. Kirika's magic is about to run out and can't slow her transformation into a Witch anymore, so she lets go and fully transforms into Latria.
- Mami, Kyoko and Yuma battle Kirika while Homura battles Oriko. Sayaka and Hitomi fight Familiars in a Barrier, and they find Madoka. Mami and Kyoko are injured by Kirika and refuse to let Yuma heal them, preferring to die than turn into Witches. Yuma, determined to live, heals them regardless, manages to convince them to keep fighting, and together they defeat Kirika. Oriko attacks again, but Homura warns her she'll run out of magic. Kyubey appears, revealing Oriko’s plans and her failure. He has found Madoka.
- Koito, searching for Oriko, meets Miyuki and Kimihide, who are also trying to find her. Madoka, Sayaka and Hitomi head towards where Madoka thinks Homura is. Oriko is killed by Homura, but as she dies, she hurls a piece of Kirika's Witch form at Kyubey, killing him. Homura, after speaking to Mami, Kyoko, and Yuma, finds that the projectile Oriko threw wasn't meant for Kyubey, but rather Madoka. Yuma explains that Madoka is already dead, so she can't heal her.
- Koito makes a contract with Kyubey so she can find out the truth about everyone's deaths and gains the power to detect lies that people tell. When a photo of Oriko at the school crisis is sent to her, Koito's wish reveals that Oriko was behind the disappearances and involved in Komaki's death.
- Afterwards, Koito approaches Mami and introduces herself as a Magical Girl.
- Sometime later, Yuma plays a game at an arcade with Kyoko, and she notes that Yuma has changed a lot from since they first met. Later, when Yuma asks Kyoko if she is more grown up, Kyoko says maybe a little, noting that Yuma almost cried after losing the game.
- Kyoko, Yuma, Mami and Koito gather for a strategy meeting against Walpurgisnacht, and as Koito is a newer Magical Girl, Yuma offers to teach her everything she knows.
- Koito explains Oriko's objective to the others, explaining that she aimed to prevent a world-ending Witch from being born by erasing Madoka Kaname, who would become that Witch, before she made her contract. She explains Yuma was led to make a contract to draw Kyubey's attention away. Mami assigns roles for Walpurgisnacht, having herself and Kyoko take the lead, have Yuma focus on healing, and Koito taking the rear.
- During a practice battle against a weaker Witch, Koito defeats it quickly and Yuma is upset she did not get a chance to show what she can do. Kyoko clumsily says it's better if Yuma doesn't have to do anything, which Yuma misinterprets as being unwanted, so the others decide to give Yuma a chance to use her magic in the next battle to restore her confidence.

- The next day, Koito tells Yuma that Mami and Kyoko are fighting a powerful Witch and need her help, so Yuma rushes to the scene. She finds Kyoko injured and unable to move, so Mami instructs Yuma to heal Kyoko. After Yuma does so successfully, Kyoko thanks her, saying it's great having her around when things get rough and Yuma is overjoyed.
- The group counterattacks, during which Koito is knocked down by the Witch, but Yuma heals her as well. Kyoko pats Yuma's head and lets her attempt a finishing blow. Yuma successfully defeats the Witch and celebrates, asking if she's all grown up now. Kyoko relents and says she made her point. When Mami asks Kyoko why she let Yuma attack, Kyoko replies that depending on the situation, Yuma might need to watch their backs, to which Mami agrees that it's good to know Yuma can join the attack if needed.
- Exhausted, Yuma falls asleep murmuring that Kyoko can always count on her.
- Some time later, in Koito's first encounter with an unknown Magical Girl, where Koito helps her against a Witch, her power has her discover that the girl is lying about wanting to team up, so Koito flees again.
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: When Walpurgisnacht arrives, Mami, Kyoko, Yuma and Koito fight against it together and manage to succeed.
- In what might be a sort of afterlife or mind-space, Kirika encounters Oriko, who can't walk due to the burden of her actions. Kirika offers to help her by carrying half of it, and the two walk off hand in hand, smiling.

- After Walpurgisnacht's defeat, the temporary team of Mami, Kyoko, Yuma, and Koito disbands, with Kyoko and Yuma returning to Kazamino. Koito declines Mami's offer to partner, stating she wanted to work alone for a while. Koito is still unable to process Oriko's betrayal, and hasn't been able to trust anyone since discovering the truth.
- Koito travels to Kazamino City to investigate Oriko's other victims, hoping it might help her move forward. She visits the site where Futaba's body was found and meets a local girl who knew Futaba and Mio. From this girl, Koito learns that Futaba and Mio had been close childhood friends and deduces what their contracts could have been from the story, including that they both died due to Sasa Yuuki. Koito shares memories of Komaki in exchange, admitting the house feels quiet without her. Koito also investigates Mai Akane's disappearance and encounters her parents distributing flyers. She observes Mai's father pleading for information, and Mai's kendo club friends speaking warmly of her devotion to her grandfather.
- Following a lead, Koito visits Lina Hitomi's house and speaks with a neighbor who reveals Lina's difficult family situation. Koito learns that Lina's mother was unmarried and favored Lina's twin brother Mana, who resembled their absent father. Mana died in a traffic accident. Though Lina was nowhere near the car, their mother convinced herself Mana died protecting Lina and blamed her. After the accident, Lina tried desperately to earn her mother's affection by acting like a good kid. The neighbor notes that Lina's mother eventually forgot Mana entirely, as if his memory was wiped from her mind, which Koito deduces as the work of a Magical Girl contract.
- Suddenly, Kyubey appears and offers to tell Koito about the Kazamino Magical Girls from his perspective, not knowing what they felt. He recounts each girl's wish:
- Lina Hitomi: "My wish? To erase my mom's memories of my big brother forever."
- Futaba: "I can wish for anything? Then erase the giant scar on Futaba's face. I don't want her to be burdened with it."
- Miyako Saki: "I want long, straight hair! How's that sound? That'll make me look more like a heroine, right?"
- Mai Akane: "I want my grandfather to see my final match," as he was critically ill before the tournament.
- Sasa Yuuki: "I wish to force anyone better than me to obey me."
- Kyubey explains that Sasa's actions were what drove the other Kazamino Magical Girls to form a team, and after Sasa mistakenly killed Futaba, they followed her to Mitakihara. In the end, Koito comes to the conclusion that Oriko was both a hero who saved the world and a villain who killed her sister. Both statements were true, and she did not need to choose between them, but she believes Oriko's comfort to her was genuine.
- On her way home to Mitakihara, Koito encounters a Witch and is overwhelmed, her Soul Gem almost darkening completely. She is saved by the same Magical Girl she had fled from previously and the Witch is defeated. The girl apologizes for not being honest in her original request, admitting she had been afraid of scaring Koito off, and sincerely asks her to become partners. Koito declines, stating she was not ready to trust others yet, but the girl tells her that she will wait for the day Koito learns to trust again.
- Koito resolves that someday she hopes to forgive Oriko and her contradictions with the hope that when that say comes, she will be able to go back to normal again.
What happens to these characters in future loops of this universe is unknown. It can be surmised that Homura preemptively kills Oriko and Kirika early in the timeline to prevent them from causing trouble. On the other hand, Yuma is likely killed by her mother just like in Oriko's prediction in Puella Magi Oriko Magica: [extra story] .
The different story
One of Homura's timelines with an unclear placement. In this timeline, Kyoko and Mami confront each other on their shared past.[11] This timeline is depicted in:
- At some point, Kyubey makes contact with Madoka and Sayaka, leading them to meeting with Mami and being introduced to Magical Girls.[12]
- Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: Sayaka makes a contract to heal his arm after hearing Kyosuke's breakdown, helps Mami fight Charlotte and starts working as a Magical Girl with her.
- Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: Kyubey tells Kyoko that there's a new Magical Girl in Mitakihara, Sayaka. Kyoko watches Sayaka with magical binoculars, and later, Sayaka encounters her while attacking an Anja Familiar. They clash, with Kyoko mocking Sayaka's idealism, and Madoka notifies Mami with Kyubey's help. Mami and Madoka arrive and stop Kyoko before she can strike Sayaka. Kyoko tells Mami that she thought Mami had fallen in battle long ago.[12]
- On the following days, Sayaka battles a fast-moving Witch but struggles to land a hit until Mami intervenes with Tiro Ricercare and helps her. Later, Homura approaches, who asks if Mami intends to recruit Madoka as an ally and Mami confronts her about teaming up with Kyoko. At Mami's apartment, the group discusses their distrust of Homura and Kyoko. That night, Kyoko and Homura discuss their plans, where Kyoko claims she wants to take Mami's territory.[13]
- At some point following this, Madoka approaches Kyoko several times, asking her about her history with Mami and befriending her.[14]
- Hitomi gives an ultimatum to Sayaka, to confess her feelings for Kyosuke in a day, or else Hitomi would.[15]
- Later that night, Mami defeats the Witch Elly and saves Hitomi. Afterwards, Kyoko appears and taunts Mami, before Homura also shows up. Kyoko explains she chose to team up with Homura because Mami treats people like them as bad guys. Late that night, Madoka and Mami walk downtown; Mami tells Madoka to decide her own wish.[13]
- The next day, Hitomi yawns in class, commenting on the odd situation she and many other people had found themselves in the previous night. Sayaka telepathically apologizes to Mami for missing last night's fight and Madoka tells her Hitomi was attacked by a Witch. Later that day, inside a honeycomb-like Barrier, Mami and Sayaka fight two Witches working together and Mami is captured by vine-like appendages.[13] Mami struggles free but is seriously injured and falls unconscious. Sayaka attempts to fight the Witch while Madoka tends to Mami and Kyubey urges her to make a contract with him. Homura intervenes with a bomb and Kyoko scolds Sayaka for being reckless and instead urges her to heal Mami. Sayaka uses her magic to quickly heal Mami, while Kyoko and Homura defeat the two Witches. Kyoko scolds Sayaka, then leaves alongside Homura, but when they're alone, Mami thanks Sayaka.[16]
- The following day, Mami walks to the spot where she and Kyoko used to meet. She finds Kyoko there and Mami offers cookies, thanking her for saving her life, but Kyoko remains defensive and refuses to team up again. Kyoko warns that Sayaka's wish, similar to her own, will end in disaster, and Mami warns Kyoko to leave town. Later that morning at school, Sayaka also thanks Homura using telepathy.[16]
- That afternoon, Mami receives a call from Madoka and promises to keep Sayaka safe. That evening, Sayaka encounters Kyoko, who tells her to stop teaming up with Mami and the two son part ways. Later that night in a park, Sayaka apologizes to Mami and asks to stop being partners, admitting she knew Hitomi was under a Witch's influence before Mami saved her, thus she is not worthy of being a Magical Girl alongside Mami.[16] Sayaka says she wants to stop teaming up because she feels she cannot return the favor and quickly runs off, apologizing to Mami. Kyoko later watches Mami and Madoka search for a Witch and dismisses Sayaka as a lost cause. Homura approaches Kyoko, suggesting teaming up with Mami, but Kyoko refuses.[15]
- The next day at school, Sayaka feels unwell and Madoka confronts her on the roof, even though Sayaka dismisses her. Later, Madoka confronts her on the rooftop, urging her to reconcile with Mami. Kyousuke arrives with a gift for Sayaka, but she rejects it and tells him to spend time with Hitomi. Madoka reveals Sayaka is the reason his hands have been healed, which unsettles Kyosuke. Sayaka asks for one more day to explain it to him and leaves school early, while Kyubey watches from the shadows.[15]
- The next day, Kyoko completes a Witch hunt on her own and Kyubey tells her about Sayaka. Kyoko confronts Sayaka in front of Mami's apartment, where Sayaka admits she wanted to be consumed by a Witch. Kyoko offers pocky, sits near her and tells her to live as she wants. The two end up commiserating, but Sayaka rejects Kyoko's morals and leaves to find a Witch. Mami, having been nearby and listening to their conversation races past Kyoko and goes after Sayaka.[17]
- Inside Elsa Maria's Barrier, Mami rescues Sayaka, urging her to tell Kyosuke the truth, and explaining that she is herself weak, and had been putting up a facade to bear the loneliness. As she defeats Elsa Maria, Mami explains she cannot keep the ideal of a Magical Girl she presents to the world, and asks for Sayaka not to leave her. Sayaka thanks Mami for her honesty before becoming a Witch herself.[17]
- Meanwhile, Homura warns Kyoko it is too late for both Mami and Sayaka. After escaping Sayaka's Barrier, Mami lies on the ground in disbelief, where Kyubey approaches and tells her that Homura, Kyoko, and Mami are all responsible for the shortage of Grief Seeds, and thus for Sayaka turning into a Witch.[17]
- Alone in her apartment, Mami questions her life, remembering her parents, regretting not saving them, and recalling Kyoko leaving her alone. As she's walking alone, Madoka finds Mami in the rain, and Mami lies, saying Sayaka is fine and they were hunting Witches. Madoka leaves, happy that Mami and Sayaka are friends. Elsewhere, Homura explains that Magical Girls become Witches, and to not search for Mami and Sayaka, believing Mami is either dead or a Witch, but meeting her alive would also be fatal. Kyoko decides to search for them regardless.[18]
- While tracking a Witch, Mami walks into Kyoko's lattice barrier and says she intends to die with Sayaka's Witch. Kyoko refuses to leave Mami alone and they start fighting to the death. Kyoko tells Mami it's not her fault Sayaka became a Witch, but Mami blames Kyoko for collecting Grief Seeds that should have been Sayaka's.[18] Homura declines to stop them, remembering past timelines. Mami and Kyoko fight fiercely, where Mami thins her ribbons into sharp threads to catch and restrain Kyoko. She apologizes, saying she didn't believe Homura's warning and regrets betraying Mami and tells her to shoot her if it will make her happy. Mami does so, and Kyoko's Soul Gem is seemingly shattered. Mami collapses, her own Soul Gem polluted, while Kyubey watches, waiting for her to become a Witch. In her mind, Mami is enticed to become a Witch, a younger version of herself telling her she could live happily with her parents and her friends but then she is awakened by Kyoko, who is alive.[19]
- Kyoko reveals she used her illusion magic again, having gained a small portion of it back. Having given up, Mami admits she always wanted to be Kyoko's friend and begs for death, but Kyoko touches a Grief Seed to Mami's Soul Gem, cleansing it. In reality, Kyoko is using her own illusion magic again to delay Mami turning into a Witch. Mami asks Kyoko to promise never to leave her again and Kyoko leaves her ribbon and pendant, promising to return. As Mami falls asleep, Kyoko enters Sayaka's Barrier and the illusion magic which made Mami believe Kyoko used a Grief Seed falls apart.[20]
- After defeating the Witch and getting her Grief Seed, Kyoko is close to reaching her end as well. She uses Sayaka's Grief Seed on Mami, and herself leaves to fight another Witch to get another Grief Seed. She either dies in the battle, or becomes a Witch herself.[14]
- After having slept for more than one day, Mami awakens at her apartment. Madoka hugs her and Homura tells Madoka that Sayaka was killed by a Witch and that Kyoko's whereabouts are unknown. Telepathically, Homura asks Mami not to reveal the truth and after Madoka leaves, Homura asks for Mami's help with Walpurgisnacht.[14]
- Homura admits she knew Sayaka would become a Witch, and Kyubey also appears, revealing how Kyoko saved Mami through her illusions and Sayaka's Grief Seed, then entering a Barrier where she was defeated. Mami aims a pistol at Kyubey, then collapses. Homura slaps Mami and scolds her, revealing how she traveled through time to save Madoka from Walpurgisnacht and becoming a Magical Girl. After learning this, Mami agrees to help her. That evening, Madoka visits Mami when she is alone and reveals she had secretly met and befriended Kyoko, learning about her history with Mami. Madoka announces she will become a Magical Girl to save Sayaka and let Mami live an ordinary life, to which Mami cries in her arms.[14]
- At some point afterwards, Mami shatters her Soul Gem while lying on her couch, holding Kyoko's ribbon and pendant. She imagines setting up a tea party, where Kyoko sits at the table and Mami welcomes her parents home.[14]
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: By Walpurgisnacht's arrival, Madoka has used her wish to bring Sayaka back to life and the two urge Homura to protect the town with them. Homura vows to never give up and after the battle, restarts time again.[14]
Homura's Revenge!
A likely non-canon trio of timelines, whose story revolves around Homura taking Madoka back in time with her, with Kyubey also following them.[21] This timeline is depicted in:
First Timeline
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: Homura is defeated by Walpurgisnacht and begins to fall into despair. Madoka tries to make a contract, but Homura grabs her and travels back in time, taking Madoka with her.[22]
Second Timeline
- Day 1 - Tuesday, the 16th: Homura wakes up in the hospital and worries she might have killed Madoka.[22]
- Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: While Homura introduces herself in class, Madoka jumps up, rushes to her, and says she remembers everything, likely due to having made contact with Homura when she went back in time. In the hallway, Homura confronts Madoka about becoming a Magical Girl, but Madoka suggests they try to save everyone this time.[22]
- Later, Madoka and Sayaka go to a music store. Kyubey contacts Madoka with a different message than before. Madoka meets Kyubey at the abandoned area, where Kyubey reveals he remembers the previous timeline because he made contact with Madoka at the moment of the time loop. Homura shields Madoka and Kyubey agrees to go along with their plan to replicate the previous timeline. Homura kills that Incubator and Sayaka appears, sprays Homura with a fire extinguisher, and runs with Madoka. They then stumble into Gertrud's Barrier, where Mami appears and saves them.[22]
- Mami kills the Familiars while Madoka hugs her. Homura tries to be kind to Mami, but Madoka explains that Homura's presence stomps on Mami's pride, so Homura leaves.[23]
- Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: On the school roof, Homura asks if Madoka came up with a lie, but Madoka says Mami has already invited her and Sayaka on Witch hunts. Homura warns that Mami will be killed in her next fight and Madoka suggests Homura kill the Witch beforehand.[23]
- Charlotte's Grief Seed appears on the hospital wall. Madoka secretly plans to avoid Mami, but Kyubey leads Mami to the hospital regardless. Mami enters Charlotte's Barrier and fights Homura, trapping her with ribbons. Homura tries to warn her about Charlotte, but Mami ignores her, so she and Madoka walk into Charlotte's room in the Labyrinth.[23]
- Mami fights Charlotte and Homura frees herself. Mami hits Charlotte with a Tiro Finale, but the snake form emerges. Madoka tackles Mami, saving her from decapitation, and Mami ties down Charlotte again and fires another Tiro Finale. However, Homura barges in, distracting Mami, who is killed by the dying Charlotte. Homura fights and defeats Charlotte, then picks up the Grief Seed. In the end, Sayaka yells that Homura caused Mami's death.[24]
- Day 16 - Wednesday, the 31st: Sayaka makes a contract with Kyubey, possibly with the added intent of revenge against Homura. While Madoka eats breakfast with her family, she realizes Homura must have grown used to seeing friends die.[25]
- On the school roof, Sayaka blames Homura for Mami's death. Even though Madoka defends Homura, but Sayaka does not believe her.[25]
- After school, Homura visits Mami's apartment in grief. Kyubey appears and asks if Homura plans to subject Madoka to the fate of a time traveler like herself. Homura leaves and runs into Madoka, who says they can loop as many times as needed to save Mami. Homura suddenly realizes today is the day Sayaka makes her wish, and she runs to stop her, but Madoka reminds her that Hitomi will be attacked today as well. They decide that Madoka will handle Sayaka while Homura deals with the Witch.[25]
- Homura saves Hitomi and fights H.N. Elly. During the fight, Sayaka appears in her Magical Girl outfit, quickly kills the Witch, and declares Homura is now at the top of her list. Madoka jumps between them, which makes Sayaka leave and meanwhile, Kyoko watches from afar and says this will be fun.[25]
- Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: On a small hill, Madoka asks why Sayaka became a Magical Girl, to which sh responds is because she wanted to avenge Mami and calls Homura a threat. She leaves to visit Kyosuke, while Kyubey introduces Kyoko to Sayaka.[26]
- At a café, Homura tells Madoka to distance herself to avoid worsening Sayaka's distrust, but Madoka refuses. Later, Madoka asks to join Sayaka on Witch hunts and Kyubey also says he has taken steps to ensure Sayaka's protection. They enter an Anja Familiar's Barrier, which Sayaka defeats quickly. While Homura watches, Kyoko puts her spear to her neck and attacks. Sayaka and Madoka appear and Kyoko puts up a Barrier, separating Madoka from the fight.[26]
- Sayaka and Kyoko argue but agree to a temporary alliance. Homura stops time, fires a flash grenade, and escapes with Madoka. At the light fountain, Homura notes that Sayaka and Kyoko teaming up benefits them, as a strong Magical Girl can protect Sayaka until Walpurgisnacht.[27]
- Day 22 - Tuesday, the 6th: While Madoka and Hitomi walk to school, Hitomi notices Sayaka has been absent for multiple days.[27]
- That night, Sayaka and Kyoko fight Elsa Maria and Kyubey advises Sayaka to shut down her pain receptors to fight recklessly. After the Witch is defeated, Homura appears and warns Sayaka to stop fighting that way, but Sayaka summons multiple swords to attack Homura as her Soul Gem darkens.[27]
- Homura is gravely injured during the fight. Despite stopping time and firing at Kyoko and Sayaka, Kyoko is able to block them and Sayaka stabs Homura. Before Homura can stop time again, Kyoko grabs her. Sayaka raises her sword but crumbles, her Soul Gem completely black. It becomes a Grief Seed, from which her Witch hatches and Homura quickly destroys it.[28]
- Kyubey explains to Kyoko that Homura has been looping time and Kyoko ends up walking away with Sayaka's body. Kyubey reminds Madoka of the wish she nearly made in the previous timeline.[28]
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: As Walpurgisnacht looms over Mitakihara, Homura changes her bandages and despairs that she has only caused Madoka more sorrow. Madoka visits her and Homura suggests starting another loop, telling her not to push all the burden onto herself.[29]
- At the evacuation center, Madoka tells her mother she needs to talk to a friend and takes off.[29]
- Kyoko decides to protect Mitakihara in memory of Mami and Sayaka, joining the fight alongside Homura.[29]
- In a sheltered area, Madoka asks what will happen if they go back in time, but Homura does not answer. Madoka says she cannot leave the people of this Mitakihara to die, so she starts to suggest becoming a Magical Girl, but Homura shouts that would make everything pointless. Kyubey appears and says Kyoko has begun fighting Walpurgisnacht, making Madoka rush off. Kyubey asks Homura what purpose staying in this timeline would serve, as she and Madoka have different goals.[29]
- Kyoko fights Walpurgisnacht but is overwhelmed until Homura appears and saves her. Madoka also arrives and Homura says she will defeat Walpurgisnacht even if it costs her life.[29] Kyoko yells at her not to say that, but Madoka tells Kyoko to fight with them.[30]
- Homura uses her remaining time-stop magic to launch a massive attack. Kyoko also reawakens her Rosso Fantasma power, yet Walpurgisnacht shows no damage. Homura prepares to shoot her own Soul Gem in a suicide attack, but Kyoko grabs it, is hit by Walpurgisnacht and falls. Madoka runs to her, and Homura is also gravely injured and unconscious. Madoka calls out to Kyubey and contracts to save Homura.[30]
- Homura wakes to Madoka in her Magical Girl outfit, and though Homura tells her that Madoka will become a Witch, Madoka says she could never despair as long as Homura lives. They combine their power and shoot down Walpurgisnacht, but Homura's Soul Gem turns black from sharing the burden.[30]
- She asks Kyoko to destroy it, but Kyoko purifies it with Oktavia's Grief Seed. Homura asks if Kyoko will stay and Kyoko replies that she will. Madoka and Homura explain that Homura cannot protect Madoka if she comes along in the next loop. They embrace and say goodbye, before Homura turns her shield and goes back in time again.[30]
Third Timeline
- Day 1 - Tuesday, the 16th: Homura wakes up in her hospital bed, repeating that she will keep going no matter how many times it takes. A silhouette of Madoka hugs her.[30]
Magia Exedra Events & Drama CDs
Most of these are self-contained, slice of life stories, thus delegating them to not being canon to the prime continuity.
Steady Steps Forward: Magical Girls Dreams
This event depicts Madoka, the day after becoming a Magical Girl, in a timeline where everyone is working together, Sayaka is already a Magical Girl, Mami is alive, Kyoko has come to Mitakihara and Homura has also joined them. This timeline is depicted in:
- The Magia Exedra Event Steady Steps Forward: Magical Girls Dreams

- Madoka arrives late to school, having been unable to sleep due to her joy at being accepted as a full-fledged Magical Girl. Her friends, including Homura and Kyoko had waited for her. Mami assigns Madoka her first official Witch patrol, partnering her with Homura. During the patrol, Madoka expresses her nervousness about her new responsibilities, but Homura reassures her, stating that everyone was once a beginner and that she can take her time. Encouraged, Madoka detects a Witch, and they engage it.
- Madoka initially struggles in the fight, but after recalling advice from the others and calming down, she successfully defeats it. Afterward, she confides in Homura that her wish was to protect her family, friends, and the other Magical Girls, sharing her dream of one day becoming reliable enough to mentor others herself. Homura acknowledges that this is a good goal and suggests they move forward together, step by step. They return to Mami's apartment, where the group gathers for tea and cake. Homura tells Madoka that this is their daily routine and that she will get used to it.
Farewell Story
(The Magia Exedra Event or the Drama CD)
While most of the event recounts Kyoko's past with Mami, which is the same in all timelines, the ending depicts a flash-forward to a timeline where Homura prompts Kyoko to work with her against Walpurgisnacht and the two form a partnership. Nothing else is known about the timeline in which this event occurred besides that it doesn't fit into any of the main pre-established ones. This timeline is depicted in:
- The Magia Exedra Event Farewell Story Part I & II
- The Drama CD, Madoka Magica Drama CD 3: Farewell Story
- After reflecting on her past partnership with Mami, Kyoko meets up with Homura to plan for Walpurgisnacht's arrival. Homura states her sole purpose has been to find a way to defeat Walpurgisnacht. Kyoko is reminded of her former partnership with Mami when Homura says they will defeat it "together," and Kyoko asks Homura to explain her strategy for beating Walpurgisnacht.
Dance☆Magica
This event is a dream sequence experienced by Madoka. As such, the events are not part of the main story's continuity and do not affect the plot of any timeline. It is implied that at the point where this dream happens, Madoka has at least encountered Mami, Homura and Kyoko and seems to be in a good mood.[31] This timeline is depicted in:
- The Magia Exedra Event Dance☆Magica

- Madoka has a dream where she and her friends are "Dancing Magical Girls."
- In the dream, Kyubey is a producer and requests that Madoka make a contract to become a "Dancing Magical Girl," explaining that they use dance to cleanse impurities caused by people's negative emotions. Despite having no dance experience, Madoka agrees to the contract to help people.
- Some time later, a rumor spreads about five Magical Girls in Mitakihara who dance for people who are feeling down. Madoka and Sayaka, who are part of the group, overhear Hitomi talk about the rumor and decide to inform the others.
- The group, which also consists of Mami, Kyoko and Homura, is practicing. They discuss the rumor and conclude they cannot stop dancing, as people would suffer from unchecked impurities. Kyubey arrives and, upon hearing of the rumor, announces their "media debut" via a livestream the next day, which is April 1st. He explains it will amplify their ability to cleanse impurities by reaching more people.
- Although initially shocked, the girls all agree to participate for the sake of helping others.
- The next day, the five Magical Girls prepare for the livestream on the school rooftop, resolve to do their best, and begin the broadcast.
- Waking up to the sound of her alarm, Madoka laughs at the strange dream about being a "Dancing Magical Girl."
Sunny Day Life
This event details a slice of life story where the quintet meets up at Mami's apartment after Madoka and Sayaka's Magical Girl duties cause them to fail a few tests at school. In this timeline, both Madoka and Sayaka have contracted, Kyoko is also joining the others in Mitakihara and everyone is on good terms with each other. It is unlikely to be canon to the original bundle of timelines, but does not directly contradict anything in them either. This timeline is depicted in:
- The Magia Exedra Event Sunny Day Life Part I & II
- The Drama CD, Madoka Magica Drama CD 2: Sunny Day Life

- After failing some school tests due to their Magical Girl duties, Sayaka convinces Mami to tutor her and Madoka. The study session at Mami's apartment quickly turns into a full gathering when Homura and Kyoko also arrive. While the group reassures a self-doubting Madoka of her capabilities, Kyubey interrupts to report that their classmate Hitomi is in distress.
- Rushing to her aid, the girls discover the culprit is a "Panty Thief Familiar." They give chase into an abandoned building, where Mami confronts it with her signature Tiro Finale. The attack misses, revealing the "Familiar" to be a cat that had a white shirt wrapped around it, which was stealing underwear to build a nest. After resolving the humorous incident, Mami cooks pasta for everyone and the meal is a lively affair, with the girls attempting to eat with proper etiquette, ultimately leading to bickering between Sayaka and Kyoko.
- Later, as Madoka walks home, she declines Homura's offer to use her time-stop ability to cheat on the test, instead being determined to pass on her own merit. Homura however, bluntly advises her to stop giving her attacks "lame" names and to just be herself. Madoka thanks her for the honest advice. Upon returning home, Madoka's mother is understanding about her failed test, encouraging her to enjoy her youth. Madoka resolves to study hard, ending her long day by angrily throwing a suddenly-appearing Kyubey out of the bathroom for being a "pervert."
A Gifted Predicament
This event is of Madoka celebrating her birthday with her friends and family. Due to Madoka's birthday being on October 3rd, this event is not canon to any of the known timelines. This timeline is depicted in:
- The Magia Exedra Event A Gifted Predicament
- On her birthday, Madoka is celebrated by her family and friends but is troubled because she cannot think of a gift she wants from her parents. After school, Sayaka, Homura, Kyoko, and Mami throw her a surprise party. They give her thoughtful presents: classical music CDs from Sayaka, a large bag of snacks from Kyoko, a custom box of her favorite teas from Mami, and a homemade cake from Homura, made with help from the others.
- Overwhelmed with joy by the celebration, Madoka has a realization. The experience of being together with her friends helps her understand what she truly wants. She tells her parents that the greatest present she could receive is for the whole family to go out and enjoy time together the following weekend, valuing shared time over any material gift.
Summer Magical Girl Training Camp!!

- The Drama CD, Summer Magical Girl Training Camp!!
Madoka Magica Portable
Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable is an expansion of the original anime which explores the premise of Homura's time loops through a branching narrative structure, allowing players to experience numerous "what-if" scenarios. The game splits into six routes, most of which have different branching paths, however plausible canonicity of each route varies. While some present plausible timelines that do not conflict with the established story, others are clearly non-canonical alternate scenarios that explore how potential different choices might've looked like. The game is structured to be played in a specific order, with routes unlocking sequentially to reveal a more complete picture of Homura's struggle to save Madoka and providing alternate endings to the journey as well. These possible timelines are depicted in:
- The game Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable
Madoka Route
The first route available in the game. It only has one ending and it depicts a timeline which Homura ends early after Madoka contracts to save Sayaka. Madoka's actions are more timid and internally conflicted than in the timeline of the anime, and new character insights color the events.
- Homura successfully prevents Kyubey from contacting Madoka and Sayaka before she starts attending school.
- Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Madoka has a vivid dream of a previous timeline where Homura fought Walpurgisnacht alone. She remembers it in detail, including the city's destruction and Kyubey, and shares it with her parents at the breakfast table, who dismiss it as imaginative. Secretly, she is deeply afraid. At school, Homura cryptically warns Madoka against leaving her old life behind during a tour.
- Madoka's uncharacteristic fear of Homura throughout the day alarms Sayaka, who begins to see Homura as a threat. Hitomi also notices and tries to approach Homura at lunch, but is coldly rejected.
- After school, Madoka hears Kyubey's pleas for help as Homura hunts him. Madoka moves to help him, and Sayaka intervenes with a fire extinguisher, allowing them to escape. They are separately attacked by Gertrud and her Anthony Familiars but are saved by Mami. Having been pre-warned by Kyubey about Homura as a potential threat, Mami is immediately hostile and threatens her before taking Madoka and Sayaka to her apartment, where she and Kyubey explain Magical Girls.
- Day 11 - Friday, the 26th: Mami takes Madoka and Sayaka along to demonstrate a Magical Girl's life, defeating Gertrud. Mami offers the Grief Seed to Homura, who was spying, but she refuses.
- The following days, Madoka and Sayaka accompany Mami on her patrols. Sayaka admires Mami's outfit but wishes for a "cooler" costume for herself, believing "cute" doesn't suit her.
- Day 14 - Monday, the 29th: Sayaka visits Kyosuke in the hospital and shares a CD with him.
- That night, while patrolling with Mami and Madoka, they encounter an Ulla Familiar. Sayaka asks Mami about wishing for someone else, and Mami advises her to be clear on her real intention.
- Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: Madoka and Sayaka fail to visit Kyosuke. At the hospital, Kyosuke, despairing over his hopeless prognosis, asks his father to throw away his violin. Madoka encounters him and talks him into keeping it.
- They discover a Grief Seed about to hatch. Sayaka stays to watch it while Madoka runs to fetch Mami. The Grief Seed hatches before they return, trapping Sayaka and Kyubey in the Labyrinth. Mami, Madoka, and Homura enter, but Mami restrains Homura with her ribbons and proceeds with Madoka. On the way, Madoka promises to become a Magical Girl to fight alongside Mami, easing Mami's profound loneliness. Overjoyed and fighting carelessly, Mami is killed by Charlotte. Homura breaks free, arrives, and kills the Witch herself.
- Day 16 - Wednesday, the 31st: After Mami's death, Sayaka confronts Homura on the way to school, accusing her of deliberately letting Mami die to get a Grief Seed. Homura does not refute the accusation, cementing Sayaka's misconception.
- Later, Sayaka, having made a wish to heal Kyosuke's hand, is now a Magical Girl. Hitomi is Kissed by H.N. Elly and, under its control, attempts suicide with chlorine gas at a factory. Madoka saves her and several others. Sayaka arrives and kills the Witch, but is then chastised by Homura, who arrived late.
- Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: Madoka accompanies Sayaka on patrol. Sayaka gets in a fight with Kyoko, who sees Mitakihara as rich territory fit for a veteran, over an Anja Familiar. Homura breaks up the fight. Later, Homura finds Kyoko and makes a deal with her to leave Sayaka alone and prepare for Walpurgisnacht. Kyoko agrees primarily to understand the potential threat Homura poses.
- That night, Kyoko challenges Sayaka to a duel. Madoka and Homura arrive separately to stop it. Madoka throws Sayaka's Soul Gem off the bridge. Kyubey reveals the truth about the Soul Gems, and Homura retrieves it to revive Sayaka. Sayaka confronts Kyubey, who informs her she can suppress all bodily pain.
- Day 21 - Monday, the 5th: The day after learning the truth, Sayaka is extremely upset about the "zombie" revelation and refuses to see Madoka when she visits, unable to stand others' eyes on her. She skips school.
- Kyoko, having heard Kyosuke's violin playing and learned about Sayaka's wish from Kyubey, takes Sayaka to her family's church. She explains how her own wish led her family to ruin, but Sayaka rejects her ideals.
- Day 22 - Tuesday, the 6th: Hitomi informs Sayaka that she likes Kyosuke and gives her an ultimatum to confess within 24 hours or she will. Madoka follows a distraught Sayaka as she fights Elsa Maria. Kyoko tries to help, but Sayaka rejects her, turns off her pain, and kills the Witch herself.
- Sayaka refuses to use the Grief Seed. When Kyoko is reluctant to take it, concerned for Sayaka's state, she only accepts it because Sayaka won't take it back. Sayaka then yells at Madoka, accusing her of being a terrible friend, before running away.

- Day 23 - Wednesday, the 7th: Sayaka spies on Hitomi and Kyosuke. She is particularly hurt, thinking Kyosuke has a smile for Hitomi she's never seen before. Madoka, searching for Sayaka, interrupts them before Hitomi can confess; they agree to help find Sayaka first.
- Sayaka fights more Familiars. Homura finds her and offers a Grief Seed. Sayaka refuses, and Homura threatens her to not make Madoka suffer. Kyoko intervenes and restrains Homura, allowing Sayaka to escape onto a train.
- On the train, Sayaka overhears two sexist men talking about their girlfriends and, in a fit of despair, transforms in front of them.
- Meanwhile, Madoka, having learned more about Mami's loneliness and fear from her diary, feels immense guilt. Kyubey approaches her as she searches for Sayaka. Determined to save her friend and atone for failing Mami, Madoka is about to make a contract to restore Sayaka.
- Homura fails to arrive in time to shoot Kyubey before Madoka makes her wish and becomes a magical girl. Devastated by her failure, Homura shoots Kyubey and resets the timeline.
Mami Route
The second route, available after completing Madoka's route. This one has two possible endings, however it depicts an alternate version of the first timeline and thus it's certainly not canon to the original.
- Day 1 - Tuesday, the 16th: Mami, feeling afraid and lonely before a hunt, enters Gertrud's barrier. She encounters Madoka, who has been lured inside, and saves her from the Familiars. Madoka passes out but retains a clear memory of Mami's appearance.
- Day 2 - Wednesday, the 17th: The next day, Madoka sees Mami at school and recognizes her. Kyubey approaches Madoka that night, but Madoka doesn't make a contract yet.
- Day 3 - Thursday, the 18th: Madoka makes a contact with Kyubey to become a Magical Girl, wishing to save the injured cat, Amy.
- Day 4 - Friday, the 19th: Mami takes Madoka on her first patrol as a Magical Girl, beginning their partnership. They start a tradition of having tea and cake at Mami's apartment after fights, which brings Mami great happiness and alleviates her loneliness.
- Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Homura, after missing out on school due to a heart condition, transfers into Madoka's class. Madoka takes a liking to her and tries to help her adjust.
- Homura is lured into Izabel's Barrier on her way home and Mami and Madoka rescue her. They take the fainted Homura to Mami's apartment to recover, where they then explain the existence of Magical Girls and Walpurgisnacht.
- During the following weeks, Homura grows to admire Madoka and they become close friends. At Kyubey's suggestion, Homura begins to accompany Mami and Madoka into Witch Barriers to observe.
- Mami becomes visibly jealous of Madoka's closeness with Homura, as their post-mission tea parties are often replaced by Madoka walking home with Homura instead. Kyubey fuels this jealousy by commenting on how Homura's presence also improves Madoka's combat skills.
- Sayaka, feeling Madoka's absence, begins spending more time with Hitomi, who seems aware of Sayaka's feelings for Kyosuke. Kyubey takes notice of Sayaka but she does not contract in this route.
- Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: Kyoko arrives in Mitakihara, ostensibly to hunt Witches but primarily to see Mami. Mami, still holding a grudge over a past betrayal, assumes the worst of her intentions about Madoka. She confronts Kyoko and tells her to stay away. The confrontation turns argumentative, and Kyoko, unable to convey her true feelings, leaves dispirited.
- Knowing Madoka is with Homura, a lonely Mami goes to a park she has avoided, where she once failed to save a child from a Witch. There, she finds a woman with a Witch's Kiss attempting suicide. Mami knocks her unconscious and discovers the Barrier of Gisela, the very Witch from that past failure.
The route now splits based on Mami's mental state and the outcome of her encounter with Gisela.
- Branch A:
This branch occurs if Mami's Soul Gem is overly tainted and her despair is too great after the encounter with Gisela.
- Mami enters Gisela's Barrier alone. She realizes it is the same Witch she failed to defeat years ago. After a difficult battle where she can barely use her magic, she defeats it.
- Exiting the Barrier, she checks on the unconscious woman, who wakes up and rages at Mami for saving her, revealing she wanted to die to be with her missing child. Mami realizes this woman is the mother of the boy she failed to save, plunging her into absolute despair over her perceived failures.

- When Madoka and Homura arrive, Mami confesses her past failure, her constant fear in battle, and her loneliness, concluding she is unworthy of being a Magical Girl. Her Soul Gem fully darkens and transforms into the Grief Seed, creating the Witch Candeloro.
- Kyubey arrives and reveals the full truth that Magical Girls become witches and that that Witch in front of them is Mami. Madoka is forced to defeat Candeloro when it attacks Homura.
- Afterward, Madoka and Homura mourn at Mami's apartment and Madoka is wracked with guilt for not being able to save her.
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: When Walpurgisnacht arrives, Homura tries to persuade Madoka not to fight, calling it suicide. Madoka refuses, stating she is the only Magical Girl left and must protect people to honor her feelings and avoid falling into despair like Mami. She fights and defeats Walpurgisnacht but dies from her injuries.
- Overcome with grief and armed with the full truth, Homura makes a contract with Kyubey, wishing to redo her meeting with Madoka so she can save her. She vows to change fate, no matter the cost, and resets the timeline.
- Branch B:
This branch occurs if Mami's Soul Gem is purified, or not tainted enough before encountering Gisela.
- Before facing the Witch, Mami calls for Madoka and Homura's help. She has Homura take the unconscious woman to safety.
- Mami and Madoka enter Gisela's Barrier together. Inside, they have a heartfelt talk where Madoka eases Mami's insecurities and promises to spend more time together before they defeat Gisela.

- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: Mami and Madoka face Walpurgisnacht together. They are afraid, but Mami feels a sense of contentment fighting alongside her partner. In a sequence different from the one in the first timeline, Madoka tells Homura she is happy she became a Magical Girl and was able to save and befriend her.
- During the battle, Mami sacrifices herself to save Madoka from a fatal blow. Madoka, enraged and heartbroken, finishes off Walpurgisnacht before succumbing to her own wounds, her last words being about meeting Mami soon.
- Witnessing this, a distraught Homura makes a contract with the same wish: to go back in time and save Madoka from this fate. She becomes a Magical Girl and resets the timeline.
Sayaka Route
The third route, available after completing Mami's route and achieving Branch B. This one has three possible endings, however it depicts an alternate version of the third timeline and thus it's certainly not canon to the original.
- Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Homura begins attending school. Sayaka notices Madoka spending time with Mami Tomoe and the new transfer student, Homura Akemi, feeling left out.
- After school, Sayaka's invitation to go shopping with Madoka is declined, as Madoka has plans with Homura. Sayaka goes to a CD store alone and upon leaving, she encounters Madoka, Homura, and Mami, who had just finished fighting Gertrud's Familiars. Kyubey reveals himself, and despite Mami's reluctance, explains the potential for Sayaka to become a Magical Girl.
- That night, Sayaka visits Kyosuke in the hospital, where he teaches her to play the violin. On her way out, Kyubey calls to her, but she mistakes him for a ghost and runs away in fear.
- Over the next few days, Sayaka feels increasingly lonely as Madoka continues to spend time with Mami and Homura, excluding her from their activities.
- Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: During another hospital visit, Kyosuke, angry over his hopeless prognosis, damages his CD player and tells Sayaka he doesn't want to see anyone. As she leaves, Kyubey approaches her again and suggests making a contract, but she refuses.

- Day 16 - Wednesday, the 31st: The next day, after again being excluded by Madoka and rejected by Kyosuke, Kyubey finds Sayaka and warns her that Kyosuke might be the type of talented person who chooses death when they can no longer excel. He urges her to see for herself and Sayaka finds Kyosuke on the hospital roof, ready to commit suicide. She stops him and, in that moment of desperation, makes a contract with Kyubey to heal his hand.
- As a new Magical Girl, Sayaka patrols alone, unaware that Madoka, Mami, and Homura are also Magical Girls. She finds solace in Kyosuke playing his violin for her but struggles in her fights, finding it hard to defeat Witches like H.N. Elly.
- Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: While hunting an Anja Familiar, Sayaka encounters Kyoko Sakura, and they begin to fight. Madoka, Homura, and Mami intervene and stop them and Kyoko leaves, annoyed by the number of Magical Girls in the territory.
- Sayaka joins the others' team and, realizing she is far weaker, decides to train alone to avoid being a burden.
- Day 19 - Saturday, the 3rd: Sayaka and Kyoko confront each other again near a factory. Mami arrives to stop them, but they're interrupted by the appearance of Charlotte, who pulls them into her Barrier.
- Kyoko, sensing the Witch's power, warns Sayaka to be careful. The three fight Charlotte, but it overwhelms them so Mami orders a retreat. Sayaka refuses to leave and in the battle, Mami is decapitated and killed by the Witch. Sayaka is traumatized and Kyoko helps her escape.
- Believing her weakness made her unable to protect anyone, Sayaka throws her Soul Gem away, "retiring" from being a Magical Girl. The gem is then lost inside the receding Witch's barrier.
- Madoka and Homura arrive to find Sayaka's soulless body. They initially accuse Kyoko, but Kyubey intervenes and reveals that Sayaka's Soul Gem must be retrieved within two days, or she will die permanently. Kyoko uses her magic to preserve Sayaka's body while Madoka and Homura go to search for her Soul Gem.
The story then splits into three possible branches based on the outcome of the search.
- Branch A:
- Madoka and Homura successfully locate Charlotte's Barrier and defeat the Witch. They recover Sayaka's Soul Gem and mourn Mami before the Barrier disappears.
- They return to Kyoko and revive Sayaka. Upon learning the truth about Soul Gems, Sayaka is furious with Kyubey for his deception. She thanks the others before running away in confusion.
- The next day, Sayaka sees Kyosuke going to school with Hitomi. Sayaka confesses her feelings to him, but her Soul Gem falls on the ground. After Kyosuke sees it, Sayaka realizes that a future with him is impossible, so she she leaves.
- Sayaka meets Kyoko at an observatory. She confesses her pain and her desire to leave Mitakihara behind. Kyoko shares her own story of how her own wish led to her family's end, and the two mend their relationship with each other, becoming close.
- They hear screams and find Izabel's Barrier, with Kyosuke and Hitomi trapped inside. Sayaka is initially hesitant, fearing their judgment, but Kyoko persuades her to act. They're able to defeat the Witch together without either Hitomi or Kyosuke seeing them.
- Afterwards, Kyosuke and Hitomi recall hearing Sayaka's voice calling herself a "hero of justice," but dismiss it as a dream. Kyoko then decides to return to Kazamino, stating that Mitakihara has three worthy successors to Mami.
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: During the battle with Walpurgisnacht, Sayaka fights alongside Madoka and Homura but chooses not to call Kyoko for help, wanting to keep her safe as an "insurance" for the city. Sayaka dies in the battle, and Madoka later succumbs to her injuries. Homura, alone again, resets the timeline, vowing to save Madoka and enlist Kyoko's help next time.
- Branch 1B:
- Madoka and Homura recover Sayaka's Soul Gem and revive her, as in Branch A. However, instead of going to the observatory, a depressed Sayaka meets Kyoko on the street.
- They hear screams and find Izabel's Barrier. This time, Kyosuke and Hitomi are conscious and witness the entire fight. After the Witch is defeated, instead of gratitude, Kyosuke calls Sayaka a "monster." Devastated, Sayaka falls into deep despair.
- Day 23 - Wednesday, the 7th: Sayaka begins fighting Familiars recklessly and, on a train, overhears two men speaking ill of women. She transforms in front of them and potentially ends up killing them.
- Kyoko later finds her at the train station and calls Madoka and Homura, but it is too late. Sayaka's Soul Gem fully corrupts, and she transforms into the Witch, Oktavia von Seckendorff. Afterwards, Kyubey also appears and explains the truth of Magical Girls becoming Witches.
- In a final attempt to save her, Kyoko sacrifices herself to destroy Oktavia and deeply depressed Madoka is comforted by Homura.
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: Madoka and Homura fight Walpurgisnacht together, but they're defeated and Homura resets the timeline again.
- Branch C:
- Due to the lack of experience, Madoka and Homura fail to locate Charlotte's barrier and recover Sayaka's Soul Gem within the two-day limit.
- Kyoko, blaming herself for relying on them, takes over the search herself. While also hunting Witches and searching for her Soul Gem, this causes Kyoko to not have enough magical energy to sustain Sayaka's body effectively. Sayaka's body begins decomposing as a result.
- Kyoko eventually finds the Barrier, defeats Charlotte, and recovers the Soul Gem. As Kyoko returns the Soul Gem to Sayaka, she collapses from exhaustion.
- While Kyoko is unconscious, Sayaka revives and returns home, unaware of her body's state.

- The next day, Kyosuke visits to thank her with his violin but is horrified by her decomposing form and runs away, calling her a monster.
- Madoka, Homura, and a recovered Kyoko arrive at Sayaka's home just as she sees her reflection and realizes her condition. She pleads for help, but the shock and despair cause her Soul Gem to corrupt instantly. Sayaka transforms into a Witch in front of them. The aftermath proceeds identically to Branch B, with Kyoko sacrificing herself to end Oktavia.
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: Madoka and Homura fight Walpurgisnacht together again, are unsuccessful and Homura resets time again.
Kyoko Route
The third route, available after completing Sayaka's route and achieving Branch A. This one has two possible endings, and the events don't contradict any known timeline, making them both possibly canon if Film 13 is different from that of the original anime.
- Homura fails to prevent Kyubey from contacting Madoka and Sayaka.
- Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Homura transfers into school.
- Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: Mami is killed in battle against Charlotte in front of Madoka and Sayaka, but Homura saves them by killing the Witch.
- Day 16 - Wednesday, the 31st: Sayaka, feeling responsible for Mami's death, makes a contract with Kyubey to heal Kyosuke's hand.
- Kyubey informs Kyoko of Mami's death, prompting her to return to Mitakihara. She is displeased to find Sayaka has already claimed the territory.
- Day 17 - Thursday, the 1st: Sayaka visits Kyosuke at the hospital, with Kyoko observing from a distance. Later, while Sayaka is hunting an Anja Familiar by herself, Kyoko intervenes and challenges her. Kyubey instigates Sayaka to seek Madoka's help, but she refuses. Homura arrives to break up the fight. After Kyoko leaves, Homura thanks Sayaka for not involving Madoka but coldly warns that she will kill Sayaka if she ever brings Madoka on a hunt.
- Homura seeks out Kyoko at the game center, proposing a temporary alliance to prepare for Walpurgisnacht. Though suspicious of Homura's motives and magic, Kyoko agrees.
- Day 18 - Friday, the 2nd: Sayaka attempts to visit Kyosuke again but is delayed by Familiars, causing her to miss visiting hours.
- Kyoko questions Homura to understand her better. Homura reveals she became a Magical Girl for one person's survival and doesn't care about the collateral damage, a philosophy that conflicts with both Kyoko's and Sayaka's.
- Day 19 - Saturday, the 3rd: Kyoko visits Mami's apartment, reminiscing about their past partnership. She finds a stuffed teddy bear she once won for Mami, which Mami had kept.
- After Kyoko needlessly kills a Familiar, Kyubey notes her unusual behavior and reveals that Sayaka has no Grief Seeds left. Astonished, Kyoko goes to stop Sayaka from hunting recklessly.
- Kyoko asks Homura how she knows when Walpurgisnacht will arrive, but Homura's refusal to answer leads Kyoko to doubt her.

- Day 20 - Sunday, the 4th:Kyoko creates a grave for Mami near the Sakura Cathedral, placing the teddy bear on it. She tells Kyubey the act helps calm her, admitting that deep down, she is still a priest's daughter.
- That night, Kyoko asks why Homura won't cooperate with Sayaka. Homura states it's impossible and suggests Kyoko try herself, privately believing Sayaka is already doomed.
- Day 21 - Monday, the 5th: As Kyoko observes Sayaka more, she begins to sympathize with her, not wanting her to end up like Mami. Kyoko advises Sayaka to be more selfish, but this leads to Sayaka challenging Kyoko on a duel on an overpass.
- Madoka and Homura arrive separately to stop the fight before it happens. Madoka throws Sayaka's Soul Gem off the bridge, causing Sayaka's body to die. After Kyubey reveals the truth about how Magical Girls' bodies are just puppets controlled by the Soul Gems, Homura retrieves Sayaka's Soul Gem and revives her.
- Furious at Kyubey's deception, Kyoko kills him, only for another body to appear and explain the futility of the act.
- Day 22 - Tuesday, the 6th: Hitomi visits Sayaka's apartment, confessing her feelings for Kyosuke and giving Sayaka a 24-hour ultimatum to confess first. After Hitomi leaves, Madoka arrives to comfort a distraught Sayaka, who warns Madoka never to contract. Later, Kyubey almost convinces Madoka to make a wish before Kyoko intervenes and reinforces the warning.
- Kyoko finds Sayaka and shares her past with her, about how her wish for her father's success led to him discovering the truth and murdering his wife and younger daughter before hanging himself. Kyoko suggests Sayaka fight only for herself, but Sayaka refuses, pointing out that Kyoko isn't truly selfish, just a victim of a backfired wish, and declares she would even fight for Kyoko's sake from now on too.
- Day 23 - Wednesday, the 7th: Sayaka sees Kyosuke and Hitomi togetherm and at school, Madoka comforts her.
- That night, Kyoko meets Sayaka at the train station. Kyoko tries to comfort her, but Sayaka declares it is too late and transforms into a Witch.
- Homura arrives and pulls Kyoko away from the scene carrying Sayaka's body. They meet Madoka and Homura explains to her that Magical Girls become Witches.
- Day 24 - Thursday, the 8th:The next day, Kyoko brings Madoka into Oktavia's Labyrinth in a desperate attempt to reach Sayaka and turn her back. Before they reach the center, the Witch vanishes. Homura appears and reveals she killed Oktavia to prevent Kyoko's planned sacrifice. This leads to one of two branches, determined by the condition of Kyoko's Soul Gem.
- Branch A:
- Kyoko, with her Soul Gem not yet critically dark, is enraged. She tells Homura that Sayaka was her last hope and wants to kill her, but Madoka stops her, saying Sayaka wouldn't have wanted that. Kyoko severs her alliance with Homura and leaves with Madoka.
- At her father's derelict church, Kyoko tells Madoka to stop crying and to never become a Magical Girl for someone else's sake, as nothing good comes from it.
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: When Walpurgisnacht arrives, Kyoko initially believes Homura has fled. Upon sensing the battle, she realizes Homura is fighting alone. Asking herself what Mami and Sayaka would do, she reluctantly joins the fight, insisting it is not for Homura's sake.
- Homura and Kyoko are both overwhelmed and injured by Walpurgisnacht. Madoka arrives and, defying their warnings, makes a contract to destroy the Witch immediately. She succeeds, but instantly transforms into the planet-consuming Witch, Kriemhild Gretchen, and annihilates Kyoko in a single shot. Homura, devastated, resets the timeline.
- Branch B:
- Pushed over the edge by Homura's actions and the state of her Soul Gem, Kyoko questions why Homura killed Sayaka. Homura coldly corrects her, stating she only killed the Witch born from Sayaka's Soul Gem and that turning her back was impossible.
- Realizing the utter meaninglessness of her efforts to save anyone, Kyoko begins to laugh hysterically. She declares that if she cannot save those she wants to, she will curse the world, and transforms into the Witch Ophelia. Homura is then forced to kill her.
- With both Sayaka and Kyoko dead, a deeply depressed Madoka goes to Homura's apartment. Homura, in a calculated and cruel act, lies to Madoka, claiming she let everyone die as part of a selfish plan to claim Walpurgisnacht's Grief Seed for herself. She insults Madoka and threatens to kill her if she shows up to the battle, yelling at her to leave and never return. After a confused and hurt Madoka leaves, Homura breaks down in anguish, apologizing for her lies.
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: When Walpurgisnacht arrives, Homura fights alone. Madoka, suspicious of Homura's true character and wanting to believe in her, arrives with Kyubey. Despite Homura's protests, Madoka makes a contract to save everyone. She defeats Walpurgisnacht but turns into Kriemhild Gretchen, and thus, Homura resets the timeline.
Homura Route
The fifth route, available after completing Kyoko's route, or either achieving Branch A in Mami's route, or Branch B, or C in Sayaka's.
If we take this route's multiple points where it can branch off into different routes, it can result in as many as 38 possible branches, though most of them are very likely not canon. The only constant in every possibility is that Madoka doesn't make a contract, at least not until Walpurgisnacht arrives.
In total, there would be:
- Four Branches where the Magical Girls in Mitakihara defeat Walpurgisnacht together.
- Twenty-two Branches where Madoka becomes the Law of Cycles, just like in the Final Timeline.
- Ten Branches where Homura defeats Walpurgisnacht by sacrificing her own life.
- Two Branches where Homura and Kyoko defeat Walpurgisnacht together.
This route is much more detailed compared to other routes, and despite the multiple branching paths, there are only four endings. The events in all the branches of this route conflict with the events in other timelines, so their canonicity is highly unlikely, if not impossible even if Film 13 is a different timeline from that of the original anime.
Bonus Route
The bonus route, available after completing Homura's route. It has two possible endings, and though both Branches are highly unusual, Branch A's canon status is technically possible if Film 13 isn't the same as the original anime.
- At some point, both Madoka and Sayaka make contracts with Kyubey early in the timeline and form a trio with Mami.
- Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Homura transfers into school and introduces herself with a strict, drill-instructor-like demeanor to the others, stating her mission is to teach them to be self-reliant Magical Girls.
- Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: After a routine Witch hunt, as Mami, Madoka, and Sayaka exit the Barrier of Charlotte, Homura appears before them. She requests they brace themselves, then shoots Kyubey. When another Kyubey appears, it reveals the truth that he is an alien, hive-mind entity and the girls are shocked.
- Day 16 - Wednesday, the 31st: Homura visits Mami's apartment. To combat Mami's profound loneliness, she creatively suggests Mami become an idol by competing so she can always be surrounded by fans and love. Mami is initially hesitant but is convinced to try and so she begins practicing singing.

- Day 22 - Tuesday, the 6th: Hitomi gives Sayaka an ultimatum to confess to Kyosuke within 24 hours. A depressed Sayaka is approached by Homura, who urges her to confront Hitomi directly and fight for what she wants. Sayaka, empowered, agrees.
- Day 23 - Wednesday, the 7th: Before the ultimatum expires, Sayaka presents Hitomi with a challenge letter, declaring she will not give up on Kyosuke. After class, the two girls have a confrontation. Homura suggests a dual confession, but both refuse. Sayaka states she has reassessed her feelings and a furious Hitomi slaps her, and Sayaka slaps her back. Admitting defeat, Hitomi gives up and Sayaka goes to confess to Kyosuke, who accepts. Homura meanwhile stays to comfort the crying Hitomi, who becomes deeply admiring of Homura afterwards.
- With the Magical Girls distracted by their new lives, Homura needs someone to hunt Witches. She suggests to Mami that Kyoko, who desires Grief Seeds, be allowed to take over patrols. Homura approaches a frustrated and skeptical Kyoko and reveals the truth about Kyubey. Kyoko is convinced after seeing Kyubey consume one of his own discarded bodies and agrees to the arrangement.
- Madoka, seeing everyone finding purpose outside of being Magical Girls, confesses to Homura that she feels useless. Homura visits her room, slaps her, and firmly requests that Madoka not change, and telling her that Homura values her pure and supportive nature.
- Mami auditions and is scouted. She prepares for her idol debut with her first single, "Tiro Finale of Love," and is thankful to Homura for her life-changing suggestion.
- Sayaka, now Kyosuke's girlfriend, is openly happy. She even tells him she is a Magical Girl, and he immediately believes and supports her. She also skips school to hunt Familiars, her Soul Gem remaining surprisingly pure.
- Sayaka meets Kyoko while she is hunting a Witch within Kyoko's new territory, but surprisingly, Sayaka also befriends Kyoko based on Homura's advice, with Kyoko being honest about her emotions.
- Kyoko, initially thinking the others are nuts, is very satisfied with the rich territory of Mitakihara. She hoards a mountain of Grief Seeds in her family's church, willingly showing them to Sayaka once they become close, and occasionally distributes some to the other girls too.
- Madoka ultimately resolves to be content as a Magical Girl until she finds her own path.
- Despite this newfound happiness and stability, Homura knows Walpurgisnacht is coming. She calls a meeting of all four magical girls and Hitomi at her home to prepare for the battle. However, during the strategy session, Homura realizes that even with a united and mentally stable team, as well as Kyoko's massive stack of Grief Seeds, their combined power is still insufficient against the overwhelming might of Walpurgisnacht.
- Day 32 - Friday, the 16th: During Walpurgisnacht, the girls' power isn't strong enough to defeat the Witch. This route can go into two possible routes.
- Branch A:
- As the Magical Girls look to Homura for orders on how to proceed, Homura gives no answer. The hope she worked so hard to build is rendered meaningless by Walpurgisnacht's power and, acknowledging the absolute failure of this experiment, she silently activates her shield and resets the timeline, leaving the happy world she created to be destroyed.
- Branch B:
- Homura, having confirmed the futility of a direct assault, devises a final, desperate plan. She orders Mami, Madoka, Sayaka, and Kyoko to act as a diversion, drawing Walpurgisnacht's attention and attacking its periphery. Meanwhile, Homura uses the entirety of her stolen arsenal and all her remaining magic in a single, decisive strike against the Witch's core.
- In a climactic moment, Homura's attack connects, shattering Walpurgisnacht's core just as her own magic is nearly depleted. The Witch is defeated and the city is saved. The timeline is allowed to continue, preserving the unique happiness Homura forged for the others, though she herself remains haunted by the knowledge of how close they came to annihilation.

Nightmare & Bonus Stories
These stories are framed as possible memories from within the vast tapestry of time and space. Their places in the timeline as well as their canonicity is ambiguous, so these stories are listed as part of the Magia Exedra Universe. The Nightmare and Bonus Stories are all introduced with the following:
Amidst the endless tapestry of time and space, this place was but one of a myriad of possibilities that may have existed.
This story is a little memory quietly tucked away in a corner of that possibility.
- Best Friend Required
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Rose Garden Witch Part I Memory Window. It appears to be a possibility in a timeline reminiscent of the one in the Final Timeline after Madoka and Sayaka meet Mami and before their encounter with the Ulla Familiar. This event can either take place during Day 12, Saturday the 27th, or Day 13, Sunday the 28th.

- Madoka and Sayaka travel to Kazamino City in search of a specific record store known for holding rare classical CDs as Sayaka wants to buy a gift for Kyosuke. While searching for it, they discuss potential things they may wish for, but admit they haven't decided on anything yet. They struggle to find it for a long time and Sayaka is ready to give up, but Madoka encourages her to continue for Kyosuke's sake. Using only a one-year-old blog photo as a reference, they finally find the correct shop discreetly located inside an office building, and Sayaka successfully buys several rare violin CDs. On the train home, a tired Madoka falls asleep on Sayaka's shoulder, and Sayaka expresses her gratitude, saying she would have given up if she were alone and was glad Madoka is her best friend.
- High Five for Harmony
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Rose Garden Witch Part II Memory Window. It appears to be a possibility in a timeline reminiscent of the one in the Final Timeline, and similar to the previous Nightmare Story, this event can either take place during Day 12, Saturday the 27th, or Day 13, Sunday the 28th.

- While waiting to meet Mami for a patrol, Madoka and Sayaka notice a young girl with a lost dog, Kotaro. Sensing the girl is in trouble, they follow the dog and discover it is trying to lead them to a boy who has been kissed by a Witch and is in danger. Sayaka stays to keep watch while Madoka fetches Mami, who swiftly enters the Witch's Labyrinth and rescues the boy, who reunites with Kotaro.
- Afterward, at her apartment, Mami praises the two of them for their actions, telling Madoka she is gentle and perceptive and commending Sayaka for her level-headedness. Mami expresses that she would be happy if Madoka became a Magical Girl and fought alongside her, and the three then enjoy a peaceful time together with chamomile tea and cake.
- A City Ours to Defend
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Darkness Witch Memory Window. This happens in a timeline where Madoka and Sayaka make contracts early and form a trio with Mami. Due to the appearance of Gertrud and Ulla Familiars, it is possible this story takes place between Day 10 to Day 14.

- Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Madoka and Sayaka are overwhelmed in battle against Gertrud and her Familiars until Mami arrives and saves them.
- Day 11 - Friday, the 26th: The next day, they notice Mami returning a book on chess strategy and mistakenly conclude it was the source of her skill. After borrowing the book, they dedicate themselves to learning its principles, applying concepts of psychological warfare and controlling their emotions to their combat practice. They develop a coordinated team attack based on feints and reading an opponent's moves.
- Day 14 - Monday, the 29th: In their next battle, their new strategy proves successful. After they executed a perfect feint and finishing blow, Mami praises their improved teamwork and they reveal their inspiration was her chess book. Mami clarifies it was a misunderstanding and that she had merely been returning a book she found. Nevertheless, she affirms that the successful strategy they had developed themselves was what truly mattered. Watching the sunset over the city, the three Magical Girls stand together, with Sayaka resolving to grow stronger to defend it.
- Cake Baking Challenge
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Dessert Witch Memory Window. As they're in Charlotte's Labyrinth, this takes place on Day 15.

- Day 15 - Tuesday, the 30th: Madoka, while shadowing Mami inside Charlotte's Barrier, confesses her desire to become a Magical Girl simply to be as helpful and admirable as Mami. Mami advises her to think carefully, as having a wish granted is a unique opportunity that shouldn't be wasted. She then joked that if Madoka didn't decide by the next Witch, they would simply wish for a giant cake to celebrate their partnership. Though their hunt is preempted by another Magical Girl, the conversation inspires them and instead of using a wish, the two bake a cheesecake together at Mami's apartment. After successfully baking and enjoying the cake they had made themselves, Madoka feels a true sense of accomplishment, which makes her decide against using her contract for something she could achieve through her own effort.
- Futures Felt in Photographs
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Box Witch Memory Window. This event likely occurs in most or every timeline.

- Madoka and Sayaka look through a childhood photo album of the two of them and Hitomi. As they look at a middle school class photo, they notice an empty seat in the front row, which Sayaka jokingly calls the worst seat for being in the teacher's "firing line."
- Day 10 - Thursday, the 25th: Several days later, the very seat that Sayaka mentioned is taken by a new transfer student: Homura Akemi.
- In Blissful Ignorance
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Graffiti Witch Memory Window. This story depicts Homura's actions between many timelines and how she keeps Madoka from contracting.

- Day 3 - Thursday, the 18th: In the meantime, Homura, knowing where dangers will appear, has been meticulously redirecting Madoka's after-school path, from placing a construction sign to employing Amy, the cat to ensure Madoka meets with Sayaka in a safe location. With Madoka safely occupied, Homura proceeds to eliminate both a Familiar and a Witch. Her entire plan is designed to ensure Madoka has no reason to make a contract with Kyubey.
- Day 4 - Friday, the 19th: The next day, Homura observes Madoka, Sayaka, and Hitomi happily making plans, content in the knowledge that she has successfully allowed Madoka to remain living in blissful ignorance.
- We're So Similar?
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Silver Witch Memory Window. It occurs in a timeline where Mami, Sayaka and Kyoko are working together as Magical Girls in Mitakihara.

- In a joint battle against a Witch, Mami observes that the bickering Sayaka and Kyoko were surprisingly in sync, a notion they both vehemently denied. After the fight, Mami invited them to meet the next day to discuss the threat of Walpurgisnacht.
- While waiting for Mami the following day, Sayaka and Kyoko find their stomachs growling in unison. Their attempts to get a snack are marked by repeatedly having the same thoughts, and with Sayaka actively trying to choose differently from Kyoko. Ultimately, they both end up wanting the snack the other had chosen.
- The next time they meet, each had bought the treat the other had originally wanted, leading Mami to find them together. As Sayaka frantically tries to explain the situation was not what it looked like, Mami simply smiles at seeing them with their respective snacks.
- One Time Team-up!
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Shadow Witch Memory Window. It occurs in a timeline where Homura attempts to team up with Kyoko and due to the appearance of Elsa Maria, it likely occurs during Day 22.

- Day 22 - Tuesday, the 6th: Homura approaches Kyoko with a proposition to team up and protect the city from the coming Walpurgisnacht, offering Kyoko control of the city if they succeed. Kyoko, suspicious of Homura's motives and secretive nature, refuses the offer, questioning what Homura stood to gain.
- Immediately after their tense meeting, they're both pulled into a Elsa Maria's Labyrinth and are forced to work together. During the battle, Homura reveals her power and the two coordinate into a simultaneous attack to defeat the Witch in a single blow.
- After the battle, Homura lets Kyoko keep the Grief Seed. Though Kyoko acknowledged Homura's power and the offer to team up, she ultimately declines, stating she could not work with someone who was still hiding their true intentions. However, she leaves the door open for future cooperation if Homura ever decides to tell her the whole story.

- Their paths later cross again at an arcade, where Kyoko reluctantly finds herself coaching the determined Madoka through a difficult dance game and helps her train so she can win a prize for a friend.
- When they meet after Madoka's successful event, Madoka and her friend, Sayaka, credit their win entirely to Kyoko's coaching and kindness. Overwhelmed by their genuine gratitude and Madoka's unwavering perception of her as a good person, Kyoko simply gives up on trying to correct them.
- A Dream of a Little Mermaid
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Mermaid Witch Memory Window. It references the ending song, And I'm Home and may thus be occuring in Sayaka's perspective as Oktavia, or after her death in a sort of afterlife.

- In a quiet moment of reflection, Sayaka finds her own story painfully mirrored in the fairy tale of "The Little Mermaid." She grapples with the harsh reality of her existence as a Magical Girl, fighting alone with no happy ending in sight. Unlike the mermaid, she cannot even become a beautiful bubble, feeling instead that her soul is turning to stone and sinking into an abyss. Her despair is interrupted by the voice of Kyoko Sakura, who has come to find her. As Sayaka awakens from her troubled dream, the specifics fade, leaving behind only the heavy, lingering feeling of her sorrow.
- Special Stage Persona
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Artist Witch Memory Window. It depicts a timeline where the five girls form a band together, and it is almost certainly not canon.

- Inspired by their teacher's theme of "new experiences," Madoka decides to form a band for the school festival with her friends. She recruits Mami, Homura, Sayaka, and a reluctant Kyoko. After assigning instruments they draw lots and fatefully select the nervous Homura and Madoka as their dual vocalists.
- The band faces the task of learning three songs as complete beginners, so they dedicate themselves to individual and group practice and slowly improve as a unit.
- On the eve of the festival, a last-minute suggestion from Sayaka leads Homura to remove her glasses and unbraid her hair, revealing a stunning new look that left everyone, especially Madoka, in awe.
- New Specs to a New Perspective
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Chairperson Witch Memory Window. It likely takes place during Timeline 2, where Homura, Madoka and Mami formed a team together.

- After Homura's glasses break in battle, Mami and Madoka accompany her to buy a new pair. To make the experience more fun, they decide to each pick out frames they think will suit the others. Homura is deeply touched by their thoughtful choices and the enjoyable time they spend together.
- A few days later, Homura shyly reveals that she has bought the glasses Madoka and Mami chose for her. Wanting to preserve them, she explains she plans to wear them only on special outings and hopes they can all go out together again. To her delight, Madoka and Mami reveal they have also bought the non-prescription glasses they tried on that day. The three friends happily agree to wear their new glasses together on their next outing, creating a shared, matching look.
- Meeting Within a Dream
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Birdcage Witch Memory Window. It is a dream sequence that Madoka has about Homura.

- In a dream, Madoka finds herself in a strange, bright landscape where she witnesses a girl locked in a desperate battle against a monstrous entity.
- The dream then shifts, and Madoka sees a brief, everyday encounter with Homura. This memory quickly transitions back to the spectral battlefield, where Madoka watches Homura, now clearly a Magical Girl, fighting terrifying creatures in secret. Overwhelmed by Homura's solitary struggle, Madoka feels a powerful urge to help her, considering becoming a Magical Girl herself to share the burden.
- When Madoka awakens, the specific details of the dream fade, leaving behind only a profound and lingering feeling that the person she met, Homura, is deeply important to her.
- What She Once Entrusted
Unlocked at the Nightmare difficulty of the Stage Witch Memory Window. It's a series of memories Homura has regarding Madoka's ribbons, which she reminisces about while attending school in the universe of the Law of Cycles, after the Final Timeline in the Original Universe has concluded. The memories themselves could have taken place in any of the early timelines.

- The first memory is of Homura when she first noticed Madoka's signature red ribbons, which Madoka explains were a gift from her mother. Homura thinks they suit her very well.
- One day, Sayaka urgently approaches Homura for help. Madoka has lost her ribbons to the wind, and while she acts resigned, Sayaka wants to find them. Homura agrees to help. They split up to search, but find nothing. Just as they are about to give up, Homura's cat, Amy appears and insistently leads them to the ribbons, which are caught on a low tree branch.
- After they retrieve the ribbons, Homura insists that Sayaka take all the credit for finding them.
- The next day, however, Madoka thanks Homura anyway, having heard the full story from Sayaka. Homura tells her not to lose them again, as they mean a lot to her.
- In a later, solitary moment in the universe of the Law of Cycles, Homura holds the ribbons while attending school. She reflects that they only truly suit Madoka, but can perfectly imagine Madoka's cheerful voice insisting they look lovely on her, too. This memory strengthens her resolve to keep fighting to defend the precious world Madoka tried to protect.
- Once Upon a Happy Halloween
Unlocked as the Bonus Story of the Forever Halloween Night Part I event.

- In a world where every day has become Halloween, the excitement quickly fades and the holiday begins to collapse. Mami Tomoe, a Sorceress who fights Witches with the help of a Witch under her control, spends her days handing out magically conjured treats to the townspeople, especially the children. One day, as she gives out sweets, a group of children asks her what her favorite treat is. Mami admits she cannot pick just one, but later reflects that she has never actually thought about it; she has always believed that making others happy is enough.
- A short while after being asked that question, Mami is resting at home from an injury sustained during a Witch fight. Two children who often receive her treats come to visit, worried about her and wanting to thank her. They bring a selection of homemade treats because they do not know her favorite, and Mami is overwhelmed with joy, saying she loves all of them and that treats made with love contain the most wonderful magic. The children propose that from then on they exchange treats, and Mami happily agrees. They decide to have a tea party right away, and Mami feels her spirits lifted, calling it the happiest Halloween she has ever experienced.
- Those children have since left town with their families. Mami wonders how they are doing and looks forward to the day she can treat someone to her sweets again.
- Not a Ghoul but a Ghost
Unlocked as the Bonus Story of the Forever Halloween Night Part II event.

- One night, the ruler orders a party at the palace for all the children, and Alina, the advisor, is tasked with preparing it and watching over them. She complains about the tiresome duty but recognizes that making the children happy benefits her art. While trying to figure out what snacks and toys to provide, she encounters a child and asks for their favorite candy and toys, only to hear that the child loves everything. Pressed further, the child explains that different kids like different things, including chocolate, cookies, balls, remote control cars, planes, dress up dolls, and even salty snacks. Alina sighs, realizing that disappointed children would negatively affect her art, so she asks the child to tell her everything about what kids like.
- Following the child's advice, Alina gathers the necessary snacks and toys, trekking to the next land for the right snacks and visiting store after store for the toys. Despite the exhausting work, she endures it for the sake of her art. When the party begins, children line up for treats, and Alina grudgingly hands them out with a flat "Happy Halloween." After the distribution, a child asks her to play, and when Alina refuses, the child starts crying. Alina gives in and agrees to play for a little while, but soon more children pile on, demanding piggyback rides and her attention. She ends up stuck with them until they all collapse from exhaustion.
- As the children finally fall asleep, one mumbles "thanks, Miss Ghoul" in his sleep. Alina mutters that she is a ghost, not a ghoul, and calls today the worst day, though she adds that at least she will get some good art out of it.
- Sky-Faring Santa
Unlocked as the Bonus Story of the A St. Magica Academy Christmas: Part Nice event.

- On Christmas Eve, Madoka and Sayaka prepare to deliver presents as substitutes for the headmaster of the Nice Santa Club. Madoka navigates while Sayaka flies a glider, but a strong wind throws off Sayaka's landing and she crashes into Kyoko Sakura. The presents scatter, but none appear damaged, so Sayaka picks them up and continues her deliveries. Late in the night, while handling one present, she notices it feels round and wonders if it could be a punishment potato meant for naughty kids, but she completes all her deliveries on time.
- On the morning of December 25th, Sayaka panics, convinced she accidentally delivered a potato to a good child. Mami advises her to return to that child's house to find out the truth. Sayaka suspects she and Kyoko accidentally swapped presents during the crash. When she arrives, the child enthusiastically shows off a potato and explains that she asked Santa for a potato every year because she loves cooking with them. Sayaka realizes it was a false alarm. Kyoko laughs at her panic, Mami praises her honesty, and Homura notes that even the real Nice Santa got confused the first time. Sayaka is relieved that she did not ruin anyone's Christmas.
- Santa Blues
Unlocked as the Bonus Story of the A St. Magica Academy Christmas: Part Naughty event.

- Kyoko, a member of the Naughty Santa Club, must substitute for the real Naughty Santa and deliver punishment potatoes to bad kids on Christmas Eve. To prepare, she trains in a simulator with her navigator, Homura. During Mission #12, she practices disarming acoustic sensors by avoiding noise and vibrations, and she succeeds in entering a bedroom, approaching quietly, and turning off the switch. Mission #13 presents a room filled with lasers, which Homura admits seems excessive but insists that preparing for the worst is wise. Kyoko follows Homura's guidance to find a gap in the lasers, places the present on the pillow, and then navigates back out, clearing the mission.
- On Christmas Eve, after keeping up the training regimen until the big day itself, Kyoko begins her actual rounds. At her first house, she finds even more traps than in the simulation. Using her goggles, she sees no obvious traps except a toy soldier, but Homura warns her to stay alert. When Kyoko steps on the rug, the soldier starts tooting, and Homura realizes there is a pressure sensitive switch underneath. Kyoko pulls out the soldier's power cord, and miraculously the child does not wake up despite the noise. However, when Kyoko places the potato on the pillow with a quiet thud, the girl stirs and mumbles but falls back asleep. Kyoko escapes and reflects that something so quiet was enough to wake her while the loud noise did not, then heads to the next house.

- Endless Sweet Bliss

- Melissa discovers that their group is almost out of hardtack and salted meat, though they still have plenty of flour. She blames herself for not keeping better track, but Darc and Liz reassure her that they have not been able to stop at settlements for weeks. Elisa suggests they simply obtain more food by hunting, so Darc goes fishing while Elisa and Liz hunt. Darc returns with fish, and Elisa brings back venison, thanking Liz for spotting it. Melissa cooks the meal, and everyone praises her skill.
- During the meal, Darc mentions she learned to fish in Domrémy with her older brothers. Liz notes that Darc does not eat meat due to religious devotion, even on days when it is not forbidden. Elisa admits she could never emulate such discipline. When asked about her favorite food, Darc says she likes fish best but loves everything Melissa cooks. Elisa declares meat as her favorite but is cut off, then asks Liz about hers.
- Liz reveals an enormous jar of honey that she had concealed among her belongings. She pours a massive amount over her pasta, creating what looks like a few scraps of pasta floating in a sea of honey, and declares it true bliss. Elisa is horrified, pointing out that such a meal could cost more than an entire court banquet. Darc explains that Liz has a real sweet tooth and even as a mercenary spent most of her pay on honey. Liz then pours honey onto everyone else's pasta, leaving Elisa and Melissa no escape. Darc eats it cheerfully, saying she loves any meal as long as she gets to eat it with all of them. Melissa and Elisa eventually join in, with Elisa exclaiming at the sugary assault to the senses. Liz, however, insists it is not nearly enough honey.

They perform “Deo gratias Anglia” (a song giving thanks to God for victory) and Corbeau also joins them with her singing voice. After the song, Lapine praises her sisters. Corbeau admits she cannot play instruments, but Lapine says the voice is an instrument too. They laugh together.
- Lapine asks for one more song, but Corbeau says it is very late. They should rest to be fresh for tomorrow. Lapine reluctantly agrees. Minou reminds them of their objective: to set the stage and lie in wait for “the one born from the light,” as their mother ordered this. Corbeau says when that time comes, they will play with her to their hearts’ content. Lapine hopes she comes soon and sings “Veni, veni, venias” (Come, come, come to me). Corbeau responds with “Veni, domicella, cum gaudic” (Come, La Pucelle, with joy). She does not know what to expect, but she hopes the girl will entertain her. Forever Halloween Night

- Karin Misono loves Halloween, but the town is quiet and dull. No one celebrates anymore. One day long ago, everything changed and every day became Halloween. Witches also started appearing and only Sorceresses can fight them. Karin is a Sorceress, but she has no memories of her past except her name, her love of Halloween, and a few warnings from a scary person. She decides to record her story and bring Halloween back.[32]

- Karin hears a rumor about a town with a baking genius who makes the tastiest treats and the best Halloween. She heads there but gets lost in a forest. A Witch appears, but Karin is too scared to fight. She remembers being told to run away and she begs the Witch to ignore her, and strangely, the Witch leaves.[32]
- Karin flees and finds the town at the edge of the forest. The town looks Halloween‑like, but the decorations are old and no one is there. She searches every building but finds nobody. She gets lost again in the outskirts until a girl named Mami Tomoe finds her. Mami is kind and smells like candy, and invites Karin to her house for tea and snacks. Karin accepts, remembering that you should ask for help when you need it. Mami’s house is decorated for Halloween with a jack‑o’‑lantern. Mami says she likes Halloween. She serves many cakes. Karin learns Mami made them herself. Karin realizes Mami is the baking genius. But when Karin asks why the town isn’t having a happy Halloween, Mami looks sad. She explains her past, explaining that she used to bake and hand out treats. People loved them, but because every day is Halloween, they got tired of the same treats and left town, so now she lives alone. Karin gets angry at the townspeople for abandoning her.[32]
- Karin asks Mami to join her mission to bring back Halloween and Mami seems troubled and frightened. She excuses herself to get more tea. Meanwhile, Karin wanders off and finds a plushie, which then comes to life and runs away, so Karin chases it. The plushie transforms into a large Witch and tries to eat Karin. Karin screams, which makes the Witch flinch, and Mami arrives, calling the Witch “Bebe.” She tells Bebe to stop and apologizes. Mami explains that Bebe is a Witch under her control, a good Witch who doesn’t attack people, though she is mischievous and Mami uses magic to make the plushie form.[32]
- Mami reveals she is not a baking genius, and that she cheats by using magic to create any treat the recipient wants. The townspeople found out about Bebe and started a rumor that a scary Sorceress and Witch lure people in with treats to eat them. They also claimed Mami and Bebe summon other Witches. Mami tried to make Bebe cute as a plushie to change their minds, but Bebe’s mischief backfired. Everyone left and Mami says she does not like Halloween anymore and is happy living quietly with Bebe.[32]
- She tells Karin to leave but Karin refuses. She points out that Mami has a jack‑o’‑lantern and said she likes Halloween, accusing Mami of lying to herself. Karin admits she is also lonely because she has no memories or family, so she decided to write her own story instead of searching for one. She asks Mami to join her and end their loneliness together. Mami breaks down and agrees. She says she wants a role in Karin’s story. Karin corrects her: Mami is the main character of her own story.[32]
- They plan to bring Halloween back to the town first. Mami suggests setting up a store to sell sweet treats and also savory food so people do not get bored. She says that Bebe will also help and Karin agrees. They visit other towns to promote Mami’s food, but the rumor about the scary Sorceress and Witch makes everyone refuse, so no one trusts them.[32]
- Mami decides to take a break and make treats with her magic. She and Bebe compete, producing many desserts and cheese dishes and the sweet scent attracts people. Despite the rumors, some come to try the food and they love it. A new rumor spreads about a town with an amazing Sorceress who serves delicious food.[32]
- People slowly return to the town and they apologize for doubting Mami. Mami is happy to be needed, but soon a new creepy rumor starts about a place called Artland, which is filled with spooky art. It is said that there, a scary, sharp‑tongued ghost stares into your heart and turns it into art. Other versions say the ghost collects hearts to bring itself back to life, or steals hearts and turns them into art. Someone claims to have visited Artland, showing a picture that Karin recognizes but does not know why.[32]
- Karin wants to go to Artland to find the artist and use their fame to help revive Halloween, but Mami is worried about the ghost. Before they decide, a Witch like Bebe attacks the town, drawn by the sweet smell of desserts. Mami explains she can only control a Witch if they are on the same wavelength, like Bebe is, so this Witch must be defeated. Karin has never fought a Witch, but Mami tells her to fight however feels natural. Karin distracts the Witch while Mami bestows magic into Bebe’s plushie and together, they defeat it and the townspeople thank them.[32]
- Karin decides to go to Artland alone, believing the townspeople need Mami and Bebe and that she also needs to get stronger. Mami offers to come, but Karin refuses. Mami is sad to be alone again, but the townspeople promise to stay and appreciate her. Mami agrees to let Karin go, but only after she trains Karin.[32]

- Several nights pass where Mami teaches Karin non‑magical baking, how to fight Witches, and how to escape danger. Karin learns to make cookies, though cakes are harder. Her fighting skills remain poor, but she can run away. Mami also gives Karin a magic power by hugging her, which ensures that if Karin is ever sad or in trouble and wishes hard enough, Mami will come to her, no matter where she is.[32]

- Karin says goodbye and Mami stays in the town with Bebe and the people. After Karin leaves, Mami hears a new rumor: the ruler of Artland has wish magic, a power that can subjugate anyone, Witch or human alike. The rulers are said to be useless but likeable. Meanwhile, Karin gets lost again but she refuses to give up.[32]
- Karin finally reaches Artland soon and she sees a familiar picture, the same one she saw before meeting Mami. Three girls from a storytelling troupe called the Peppy Paper Players (Mito, Reira, and Seika) greet her. They explain Artland’s history. The ruler loved Halloween, but when every day became Halloween, the ruler disappeared. The ruler’s former advisor, a ghost named Alina, became regent, but the people say Alina is cold and scary, thus Halloween vanished from the land.[33]
- Karin realizes that Alina is the ghost from the rumor which says that she steals hearts and turns them into art. Karin decides to confront Alina, but a girl named Emiri, who runs a counseling room, warns that Alina is scary. More locals gather: Hinano (a chemist), Rika and Ren (plushie shop owners) and they say Alina was not always like this; she used to enjoy Halloween with children when the ruler was present. Afterwards, a police officer named Akira arrests Karin for being suspicious and escorts her to the palace where she meets Alina.[33]
- Alina ignores her while thinking about art. She clarifies that she can look into people’s hearts and turn what she sees into art, but she does not literally steal hearts. The rumor had grown more frightening over time, ever since the missing heir of Artland made a wish for every day to be Halloween, and Alina says she has no interest in Halloween and never did. Karin begs her to help bring back Halloween, so Alina makes a deal: if Karin can make Alina like Halloween by the end of the day, Alina will not turn Karin into art. Karin agrees without a plan.[33]
- Karin bakes cookies, with the townspeople helping her throw a Halloween party with illustrations, plushies, a science show, and the cookies. Alina watches but calls it “mid,” saying the effort was good but lacked emotion, so she still does not like Halloween. She prepares to look into Karin’s heart for her next artwork and Karin fears her heart will be taken. Alina clarifies she only needs a peek at the soul, not a literal theft. She looks into Karin’s heart and sees a brilliant, multicolored light, unlike the dull hearts she usually sees, and Alina becomes excited about making art from it.[33]
- A Witch appears once more, the same Witch that followed Karin from the beginning of her journey. The townspeople panic and Alina tries to leave, saying Karin is a Sorceress and must fight. Karin admits she is weak and useless, causing Mami to be summoned and help her. While the Witch attacks, Alina shields Karin from a blow and is knocked down. Karin thinks Alina is dead, but Alina clarifis that she is a ghost and cannot die. Karin cries and apologizes, and Alina reveals that Karin used wish magic without knowing it.[33]
- Alina explains that the royals of Artland have the power to make things happen just by wishing hard enough. Karin’s wishes caused the Witch to ignore her, Bebe to flinch, and Alina to remember her past. Alina also reveals that Karin is the heir to the throne, the lost royal who was kidnapped years ago and that Alina was in fact Karin’s guardian. The ruler disappeared to search for Karin and that is why Halloween faded in Artland.[33]
- Karin does not fully remember but recognizes Alina as the scary person whose advice always stuck with her and thanks her. Karin decides she must find the ruler and asks Alina to come with her. Alina believes she is bound to the land by the ruler’s wish magic, but Karin drags her to the border. Alina crosses easily, as Karin’s wish magic overwrote the previous ruler’s binding spell. Alina agrees to accompany Karin, partly to study her brilliant heart.[33]
- Karin says goodbye to the townspeople and to Mami. Karin and Alina fly away on Karin's broomstick. Karin wants to bring back Halloween and find the ruler, promising a happy ending.[33]
St. Magica Academy Christmas
First Timeline

- In a VR training run simulation, where it's December 24th, 10:17 PM, Sayaka Miki lands on a building as part of a joint exercise between St. Magica Academy’s Nice Santa Club and Naughty Santa Club. Madoka Kaname navigates from an airship and Sayaka delivers a telescope to a sleeping girl.[34]
- In her own simulation, where it's December 25th, 4:29 AM, Kyoko Sakura subbing for Naughty Santa delivers a “punishment potato” to a naughty child’s room. She also uses special goggles to avoid fishing wire traps and succeeds in her mission.[34]
- After the simulation, Kyubey explains that the headmaster is the real Nice Santa, while the headteacher is the real Naughty Santa. Both are out of commission this year due to a cold and back injury respectively, so students from both clubs take over. The Nice Club gives presents that grant small wishes, while the Naughty Club gives potatoes that make a child lose something important, prompting self‑reflection.[34]
- December 24th: Sayaka starts deliveries from the top of the list (best‑behaved child). The first house has bells on strings, but she avoids them and delivers a coffee maker for the boy’s mother. Meanwhile, Kyoko visits the naughtiest child. There are no traps, but an envelope addressed to Naughty Santa sits on the pillow, so she leaves a potato and takes the envelope.[34]
- Sayaka encounters a net trap disguised as a carrot for reindeer, then a room full of dominoes. She uses a magic stopper from her Santa device to avoid knocking them down. Meanwhile, Kyoko faces security cameras and uses jamming magic for 15 seconds. She finds a doll in bed instead of the child, then spots the sleeping child in a corner.[34]
- A dog in a child’s bedroom almost exposes Sayaka. Madoka and Homura guide her to use a plushie with magic to distract the dog and she hides under a desk and completes the delivery. Mami Tomoe reports that Sayaka has only finished a third of expected deliveries and that too many traps are slowing both teams. The student council devises a new plan: cancel the competition, rearrange the list by shortest travel route, and split the deliveries between Sayaka and Kyoko.[34]
- With the new route, Sayaka encounters a room with hanging plushies, then a floor of whoopee cushions disguised as black and white cushions. She guesses correctly and avoids them, but later, an automatic lock traps her inside a room while Christmas music plays. She unlocks the door with her device and escapes just before the child wakes up.[34]
- Homura learns that the girl at the bottom of the list started a rumor that Santa is not real. That is why even good children set traps this year, as they want proof.[34]
- December 25th: Just before dawn, both teams finish their last deliveries with about 40 minutes to spare. Kyoko and Sayaka meet in a park to wait for the airship.[34]
- Unbeknownst to her, two children from Kyoko’s first delivery hid a GPS tracker in the envelope. They follow Kyoko to the park and record the St. Magica students, including the airship pickup. By morning, a new rumor spreads that Santa is just girls from the academy.[34]
- By 9:00 AM, children lose belief in Santa and the town’s magic weakens, with the Magical Girls also feeling their powers fading. Two Familiars suddenly appear, and the student council fights them but cannot hold forever.[34]
- Kyubey announces that Nice Santa and Naughty Santa approve a plan: Homura Akemi will rewind time by one day using her magic. Everyone in the student council and Santa clubs will keep their memories. Homura agrees and activates her power. Time rewinds and Christmas Eve starts over, with hope that this attempt will go better.[34]
Second Timeline

- December 24th: After Homura rewound time by one day, Kyoko Sakura and the others begin their Santa deliveries again. They already know every trap from the first attempt and Kyoko asks to save the naughtiest girl’s house for last, as that girl had hidden a GPS tracker in an envelope addressed to Naughty Santa during the first round.[35]
- The deliveries go faster, Kyoko avoids three pet cameras and a decoy doll in a bed and Sayaka steps only on the white cushions this time (the black ones are whoopee cushions), thus both teams speed through their lists.[35]
- Kyoko has one house left: the girl at the bottom of the list. Sayaka also finishes her own deliveries and meets Kyoko. Mami then reveals the girl’s backstory, explaining that last Christmas, the girl’s mother was sick and promised to watch the first snow of Christmas morning with her before dawn. The girl wrote to Nice Santa asking to be woken up for that view, but her present was gloves and her mother died before Christmas Day. The magic of Christmas cannot prolong a life, but the headmaster still delivered the gloves and made it snow, yet the girl refused to get out of bed and returned the present. She stopped believing in Santa and this year, she spread the rumor that Santa isn’t real. She was naughty on purpose so Naughty Santa would visit her. The punishment potato makes a child lose whatever is most important to them and she wanted to lose her memories of her mother. Her envelope contained an apology: “Sorry for being so bad this year.”[35]
- Kyoko cannot erase the girl’s happy memories of her mother, so she quits the Naughty Santa Club and hands over her device and license. Sayaka returns to St. Magica Academy to report.[35]
- The girl overheard Kyoko and Sayaka talking and she sends a special delivery letter to Santa. She does not ask for a gift for herself, but she asks for Kyoko’s Santa license to be returned. The headmaster and headteacher approve and say that Nice Santa will deliver a certificate instead of a potato. Sayaka must give the device back to Kyoko and leave the certificate on the girl’s pillow.[35]
- That night, Sayaka finds Kyoko and gives her the license. Kyoko decides to give the girl a gift on her own: the view of snow on Christmas morning, just as her mother wanted. Kyoko and Sayaka steal snow crystals from the school supply storage and hijack the airship. Mami contacts them through the airship comms, telling them that it will snow naturally before dawn anyway, just as it did in the first timeline, so Kyoko and Sayaka agree to return the airship and crystals.[35]
- Sayaka returns to the girl’s room to leave the delivery certificate, adding a postscript: “Your Naughty Santa sis has a gift for you too. When you wake up, look out your window.” Kyoko and Sayaka feel a chill and Homura detects a carefully disguised Labyrinth. A Witch is eating away at the girl’s heart and it had amplified her grief and spread negativity to other children, which is why the rumor spread so fast.[35]
- December 25th: Kyoko and Sayaka find the Witch inside a spatial distortion and together, they fight together and defeat it. The girl is now freed and wakes up before dawn, reads the certificate, and looks out the window to see that it is snowing. She calls her father and says, “Let’s all three of us look at the snow. You, me, and Mommy.”[35]
- That morning, children who received presents enjoy Christmas. The boy who gave his mom a coffee maker receives a gift in return, the dog‑loving girl makes a new friend and the girl who lost her mother now believes in Santa again.[35]
- However, Kyoko and Sayaka are called to school and Kyubey delivers their punishment: volunteer work and a letter of apology. The headmaster and headteacher are still ill and Kyoko reflects that she does not know where magic ends and real feelings begin, but she quickly stops worrying about it.[35]
Sweet Magic from the Heart

- After Valentine's Day, a rumor spreads about a magical patisserie in Mitaki Hara. The pastry chefs are Sorceresses and they give out magical desserts that can solve any problem. Mami Tomoe and Kyoko Sakura run the shop, where Kyoko prefers quick sales and Mami prefers deep conversation. One girl arrives and asks for courage to confess her feelings and by the end, she leaves happy.[36]
- Madoka Kaname enters, explaining she missed Valentine's Day. Mami makes chamomile tea and Kyoko gives Madoka a banana tart with a laugh spell. Madoka initially cannot stop laughing, but she soon calms down and explains her problem. Madoka details how she worried that chocolate would not express her gratitude toward family and friends. Mami says Madoka's kindness proves her friends are lovely and then gives her a donut. The donut's magic lets Madoka convey her feelings if she bakes treats herself after eating it. Mami provides a simple recipe and the payment is only a smile.[36]
- After Madoka leaves, Kyoko argues with Mami, saying that she ignores profits. Their magic comes from the joy people feel when eating their desserts, so more joy means more magic. Kyoko retorts that Mami gave away a donut without charging and used too much magic. She also recalls a Valentine's Day customer whose relationship failed after three days. Mami admits Kyoko's opinion is fair but reminds her they agreed not to interfere with each other's methods, so Kyoko drops the argument.[36]
- Homura Akemi enters and Kyoko takes the lead, giving Homura a sour milkshake to calm nerves. Homura explains she wants courage to give chocolates to a friend and Kyoko offers a lemon madeleine (for courage) and strawberry chocolate (to give to the friend). Mami interrupts, saying Kyoko is too pushy, but a new customer arrives and Mami goes to greet them. After Homura leaves with the sweets, Mami sighs and the two argue again, with Kyoko calling Mami a hypocrite because she left to help the next customer. They suddenly sense a Witch so they call a truce to hunt it.[36]
- The two find the Witch in an alley, where they also see Madoka with her friends Sayaka Miki, Hitomi Shizuki, and a boy named Kyosuke Kamijo. Mami notices Sayaka has feelings for Kyosuke and with Kyoko, the two defeat the Witch. They explain that Witches exploit people's worries and feed on joy, so Sorceresses must fight them. A girl who had been rejected by her crush thanks them and Kyoko says relationship woes attract Witches this time of year.[36]
- Near closing time, Mami and Kyoko finish cleaning when Sayaka Miki enters. Kyoko initially says they are closed, but Mami offers meat and an apple tart for overtime, so Kyoko agrees. Sayaka says she has been friends with Kyosuke for a long time and missed Valentine's Day because it feels awkward. Sayaka has to exit the patisserie when Hitomi enters, who also has a crush on Kyosuke but felt like she was cutting in because Sayaka knew him first. Hitomi soon leaves for a lesson but says she will return.[36]
- Mami realizes Sayaka and Hitomi are rivals for the same boy, so Kyoko proposes a bet where each takes one girl under their wing and whoever's pick gets accepted by Kyosuke wins, while the loser must admit the winner was right. Mami accepts, not to prove she is correct, but to help them find love. Kyoko decides to take Sayaka and Mami takes Hitomi and Sayaka returns from her phone call. Kyoko asks if she is free tomorrow and when Sayaka says yes, Kyoko takes her contact info and promises to spare no effort to solve her problem.[36]

- The next day, Mami waits nervously for Hitomi, feeling something is wrong. Hitomi arrives and Mami serves her Swiss roll cake. Hitomi says she wants to give something to a special person but does not want to seem like she is cutting in because everyone involved is a dear friend. Mami struggles, thinking how Kyoko would focus only on the girl in front of her, but Mami wonders if her own desire to make everyone happy makes her half‑hearted.[37]
- Meanhile, Kyoko meets Sayaka at a diner. Sayaka is surprised Kyoko's wearing her fighting outfit and Kyoko explains she lives with Mami above the shop and that their magic comes from the joy of customers, so fixing problems is in their best interest. Sayaka says using magic feels like cheating, and that she wants to visit the shop and browse instead.[37]
- Kyoko and Sayaka return and finds Mami still with Hitomi and both customers realize the other is there. Panicked, Kyoko uses a memory spell on a grape tart sample, making Sayaka and Hitomi forget what they were doing. Mami scolds Kyoko, but Kyoko says the memory loss is temporary. They separate the two girls and Kyoko tells Sayaka that Hitomi's problems have nothing to do with her and Mami tells Hitomi the same about Sayaka as well. Both act more pushy than usual, adopting each other's style.[37]
- Suddenly, Kyoko and Mami sense a Witch approaching, and while the Witch seems to not be drawn by Sayaka or Hitomi, they cannot leave the customers alone, so Mami decides to bring the girls along. Outside, they find Homura and the Witch appears nearby. Kyoko asks if the magical sweets worked, but Homura admits she never ate them and she felt it was cheating to force courage or sway someone's feelings. Sayaka and Hitomi also start arguing, accusing each other of keeping secrets as neither has admitted their true reason for visiting the patisserie. This misunderstanding creates a perfect feeding ground for a Witch.[37]
- The Labyrinth forms around them and the group becomes trapped, with Mami noting the Witch must be very strong to attack two Sorceresses. Kyoko blames herself for steamrolling Homura, while Mami blames herself for leaving Homura to help the next customer. Both acknowledge that the other's method has value, and as they are not apprentices anymore, they can adopt good ideas from each other.[37]
- The two attack together with powerful blows and manage to defeat the Witch, collapsing the Labyrinth. Back at the shop, Kyoko apologizes to Homura and asks for another chance to listen. Homura wants courage but does not want to force it, and that she wants to do it with her own strength. Kyoko gives her a pineapple candy, which provides a small boost of confidence. Kyoko normally avoids this kind of magic because it uses power, but she makes an exception.[37]
- Mami apologizes to Sayaka and Hitomi. She admits they turned the girls' woes into a competition to see whose confession would be accepted. Sayaka and Hitomi look confused, as they'd never mentioned confessions. Suddenly, Madoka enters, explaining she'd brought chocolates for her friends. She sees Sayaka, Hitomi, and Homura and gives them chocolates to thank them. Sayaka and Hitomi realize all three of them wanted to give each other chocolates, but they'd kept it secret to surprise one another, which caused the misunderstanding. Hitomi called Sayaka a rival only because she feared becoming a third wheel in the friendship, but Madoka reassures her that any gift exchange would include her.[37]
- Homura wants to give chocolates to thank Madoka for being kind since she transferred, and Madoka explains she wanted to give Homura chocolates too but was worried it would be unwelcome. They agree to exchange chocolates at school, and Homura realizes she forgot to eat the pineapple candy, so she succeeded on her own merit. Kyoko jokes they worked for free and Mami says it is fine because everything worked out.[37]
- The friends offer to promote the shop, as White Day (March 14th) is coming and so many people at school will have worries. Madoka also wants to give chocolates to Mami and Kyoko as a gift between friends and Kyoko says yes as long as it is tasty. The group soon leaves and Mami suggests they exchange chocolates with each other, but Kyoko refuses and Mami teases her about the old days.[37]
- A new customer, Nagisa Momoe, enters, explaining she wants the best chocolate in the whole world. Kyoko says it sounds like a job for both of them and Mami agrees, so they get busy to fulfill her request.[37]
Welcome to Magia Island

- One day, before summer break, Homura Akemi explains that Magia Island is a peaceful tropical resort where tourists visit for the ocean, mountains, food, and hot springs. The island's symbol is Mt. Magia, a dormant volcano that provides hot springs and rich harvests. Behind the scenes, five girls protect the island. They are the Magical Guardians, chosen by the Island Spirit whose power resides in an orb inside a bronze statue. Only Guardians can see the statue and orb and Witches constantly target it. Their duty is to protect the orb and maintain peace, though they must keep their identities secret.[38]
- The five Guardians gather at the statue: Homura Akemi, Madoka Kaname, Sayaka Miki, Kyoko Sakura, and Mami Tomoe. They pray to the Island Spirit to replenish their powers. Kyoko doubts the statue's appearance, but Madoka feels warmth from it. Homura notes the orb holds unique power and they agree to meet again after school the next day.[38]
- Tomorrow morning, on the last day of school before summer break, Homura and Madoka walk to school and when Hitomi Shizuki asks what they are doing over summer, Homura lies that they will do summer homework together.[38]
- At school, the teacher Kazuko Saotome announces summer break starts tomorrow and she also complains about adults not getting vacation. After school, Sayaka and Madoka discuss their summer plans when Sayaka bumps into Kyosuke Kamijo, who is listening to violin recordings. He asks Sayaka if she hears a difference between his old and new violin and she pretends she does.[38]
- Kyoko appears, starving because she forgot lunch and Hitomi shares her homemade lunch with her. Kyoko is amazed by the taste and Hitomi reveals she has made her own lunches since childhood because her family runs the most successful traditional restaurant on the island. Homura also arrives and tries a piece. In the end, everyone praises Hitomi.[38]
- Hitomi asks how the group will spend summer. They panic and lie that they will help at a beach house run by a former Guardian named Mami, while Hitomi says she will help at her family's restaurant. Mami calls them and they soon regroup, though Madoka feels sad about lying to Hitomi and Mami says they can share their feelings with each other even if they cannot tell outsiders.[38]
- The group prepares the beach house for opening and Mami is thankful the owner is a former Guardian, which makes the cover story easier. They carry supplies and put cold items in the fridge. Later, Kyoko and Homura finish their tasks and Kyoko asks er why she became a Guardian. Homura says because she was chosen, while Kyoko admits she became a Guardian to eat, as every time she defeats a Witch, food appears for her, such as the case when she forgot lunch and then Hitomi shared hers; such was an example of the Island Spirit's blessing.[38]
- Mami announces training after setup and the group swims in the ocean. Mami drills them on lost children procedures, dangerous marine life, and Witches targeting the orb. After training finishes, Kyoko starts a fight with a water gun, but when Madoka gets hit, Homura retaliates with a modified water gun at maximum pressure. Quickly, Kyoko surrenders and everyone joins the fun.[38]

- The next day, summer break begins and the Guardians work at the beach house. During the day, Mami supervises a watermelon splitting game with a young boy, Madoka finds a lost boy, and chases him again when he runs off before his parents arrive, Sayaka gives directions to foreign tourists and Kyoko works at the yakisoba stand where a coworker brings her lunch. Homura herself works as a lifeguard, warning swimmers about strong currents and deep water. Kyoko soon arrives to tell her about the lunch breaks but Homura suddenly dives into the water and retrieves a broken bottle that could have hurt someone. Kyoko admits she had the wrong idea about Homura's seriousness. Madoka then also returns, having played with the lost boy until his mother arrived.[38]
- Suddenly, they get a group message from Mami, explaining that there were intruders detected near the orb and that all Guardians must assemble immediately.[38]
Trivia
- While the event of Dance☆Magica does mention the date of April 1st, this is most likely a reference to the Event being released on April Fools and not an actual confirmation to the date of the timeline.
