Timeline/Magia Record/Arc 1
This article details the events and stories taking place in, during and between the chapters of Arc 1 of Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story. The narrative is structured to show the convergence of two distinct flows of action:
- The first is the personal, undated journey of Iroha Tamaki within the anomalous Kamihama City, which is much longer than Homura Akemi's usual 32 day loop. Her story begins on its own internal timeline, where the sequence of events is more important than specific calendar dates.
- The second is the dated countdown to Walpurgisnacht's arrival from the original series, which starts with Day 1, Tuesday the 16th and ends on Day 32, Friday the 16th. Only the latter half of Homura's timeline is able to be approximately dated.
As the arc progresses, these two timelines intersect, and due to this, the latter half of the story is much easier to date. It should be noted that the timeline of the Magia Record game is highly anomalous, and thus any attempts at dating it are an educated guess at best. Therefore, this chronology should be used primarily to understand the sequence of major events, rather than as a calendar. In lack of contradictory context clues, the release date, or order of release of the event were used for their placement.
It should be noted that many of the events of Magia Record were written with the focus being on having fun side stories involving the characters, and thus, a definitive placement in the timeline wasn't a priority for many of them. For example, there's inconsistencies such as references to the same characters entering Kamihama for the first time in different events, or even cases where an event's tone at the time it is supposedly taking place in would be nigh-illogical considering other circumstances.
Additionally, the definitive time frame for Walpurgisnacht's arrival was only established in Scene 0, itself written and released after the majority of Magia Record and entirely after Arc 1 was finished. For these reasons, it is impossible to definitively state the order of events, or to accurately measure them against that of the original series, as with the addition of these inaccuracies, it is possible that none of the time frames of the original universe are applicable here.
In short, given all these inconsistencies, any specific dates or placements in the Magia Record timelines, especially Arc 1, should be taken with a grain of salt, unless they definitively continue into one another in a clear sequence (such as the Main Story and Another Story in isolation). The original series' timeframes are used for organizational and cross-reference purposes.
The timeline of this Universe continues with Timeline/Magia Record/Arc 2.
First Day
- While Iroha Tamaki is going to Kamihama by train, she is caught in Boxwood's Barrier. Kuroe is also on the same train from Takarazaki to Kamihama, as she'd heard the rumor that Magical Girls can be saved there, as well as had the same dream herself. The train is engulfed by the Labyrinth and Kuroe wants to help Iroha whom she's never met before. Kuroe leaps out of the train's window to help her, but she quickly falls out of the mobile Labyrinth straight into Kamihama City, chastising herself for being weak. Kuroe is greeted by Mifuyu Azusa who was trailing the signature of the Witch and Kuroe is quickly recruited into the Wings of the Magius.[1]
- Iroha herself arrives in Kamihama City, compelled by recurring dreams of an unknown girl in a hospital room. Believing this girl to be a key to a buried memory, Iroha begins searching the city's Witch Labyrinths for clues. During her search, she rescues another Magical Girl later identified as Kaede Akino from aggressive Familiars. The girl warns Iroha about the unusual strength of Kamihama's Witches and, upon learning Iroha is searching for a small Kyubey, mentions having seen it in a specific Labyrinth. Kaede notes that the small Kyubey has been the only Kyubey around recently.[2]
- Iroha locates the Labyrinth and finds the small Kyubey who is incapable of speech, though Iroha can somehow understand it anyway, but is soon overwhelmed by a horde of Familiars. During the struggle, she has a vivid vision of the hospital room from her dreams. She is saved by Momoko Togame, who explains that the Witches in Kamihama are too powerful for most Magical Girls to handle alone. Momoko takes Iroha to meet Mitama Yakumo, the "Coordinator," who can perform a "Soul Gem Alignment" to enhance a Magical Girl's power.[2]

- During the alignment, Iroha has another, clearer vision of the hospital room and the girl, feeling a strong sense of affection and nostalgia. After the procedure, Mitama reveals that she can see into the pasts of those whose Soul Gems she touches and asks Iroha what her wish was. Iroha is horrified to realize she cannot remember her own wish or the identity of the girl in her dreams.[2]
- Driven by this revelation, Iroha rushes out to continue her search, but is intercepted by the powerful Magical Girl Yachiyo Nanami. Yachiyo, believing Iroha is not strong enough to survive in Kamihama, challenges her to a duel to force her to leave the city. Though Yachiyo wins, Momoko intervenes, and a compromise is reached: Yachiyo will allow Iroha to stay if she and Momoko can defeat a specific Witch, the Sandbox Witch, before Yachiyo can.[2]
- The small Kyubey reappears and leads Iroha and Momoko directly to the Sandbox Witch's Labyrinth. Although Yachiyo defeats the Witch first, she gives Iroha a final chance to prove herself by defeating the Witch alone, which Iroha successfully does. Yachiyo admits she thought Iroha would be fine from the start. However, Yachiyo then reveals her true objective: she believes the small Kyubey is a dangerous irregularity and moves to eliminate it. Yachiyo explains she was trying to draw the small Kyubey out, as all the other Kyubeys in Kamihama have disappeared. Iroha throws herself in the way to protect it.[2]
- After the confrontation, as Iroha protects the small Kyubey, by touching it a flood of memories is unlocked. She remembers her little sister, Ui Tamaki, who was chronically ill and hospitalized. Iroha recalls her wish to Kyubey: "Please cure Ui! Make my precious little sister healthy!" She also realizes with horror that she had completely forgotten Ui's existence, living her life as if she never had a sister, with no memory of her until that moment.[2]
- Iroha awakens back at Mitama's office, having been carried there by Momoko after fainting. She explains her recovered memory to Momoko and Mitama. Despite their warnings that the memory could be false, Iroha declares that she must continue her investigation in Kamihama. Now her goal is not just to understand her dreams, but to find the cause of Ui's disappearance and uncover the truth behind her own forgotten wish. Momoko resolves to help Iroha, and Mitama agrees to help as well for a price. Mitama then asks Iroha to give the small Kyubey a name. Iroha asks Lil' Kyubey if he will help her find Ui, and he agrees.[2]
Second Day
- Iroha, now at her home in Takarazaki City, understands the reason for the empty space in her room: it once belonged to her sister, Ui. She recalls memories of Ui and her two friends from the hospital, Touka Satomi and Nemu Hiiragi, even remembering specific details like how Nemu loved writing and published stories online, or how Touka was very smart. Iroha resolves to visit the hospital to find them, hopeful they will remember Ui.[3]

- While Mitama is running her shop, she reads a detective novel called “The Case Files of Doyle the White Tabby.” A white tabby kitten from next door starts visiting her during this time and she names him Doyle.[4]
- Momoko comes for an adjustment and sits in the back to keep Mitama company. After a client leaves, Mitama feels strange and asks Momoko about the previous day after sunset. Momoko says they stayed in the shop watching over Iroha, but Mitama saw a memory during the adjustment: in that memory, she and Momoko patrolled an alley together and Mitama realizes the memory does not match reality.[4]
- Later that day, Iroha goes to the hospital with Lil' Kyubey's help to use her cellphone but is unable to locate Touka and Nemu, as she does not have a visitor pass and is not family. She reflects on their personalities and their frequent arguments, which Ui often mediated. As Iroha recalls one of their fights where they declared they were "not friends anymore," she is approached by Yachiyo. She warns Iroha about a dangerous Rumor in Kamihama called the "Rule of Ending Friendships." She explains that if two friends fight and one later apologizes to make up, a monster will kidnap the one who apologized. Yachiyo states this is one of several Rumors in Kamihama that have become reality, leading to people disappearing and tells Iroha to be careful. Iroha later discusses this rumor with Mitama, who explains that Momoko is not likely to believe anything from Yachiyo, as they stopped getting along after Yachiyo became a model.[3]
- Shortly after this conversation, Iroha witnesses an argument between Momoko Togame's teammates, Rena Minami and Kaede Akino. Momoko asks Iroha to catch Rena, but Rena fights her off and even transforms into Iroha to surprise her. Momoko formally introduces Kaede and explains the fight is over sweets. She figures Rena will apologize later. The argument escalates, and both girls declare they are "not friends anymore" before Rena storms off. Momoko dismisses Iroha's concern about the Rumor, asserting that rumors are not true. Iroha notes that Momoko seems dismissive of the information specifically because it came from Yachiyo.[3]
- Mami enters Kamihama City and saves Rena from a Stacey Witch. Rena reveals that Kamihama has the opposite problem to other cities: an overabundance of powerful Witches. Mami realizes Kamihama is an anomaly. While investigating, she encounters a powerful Familiar and a strange, non-Witch Barrier, solidifying her decision to investigate the city's mysteries.[5]
Undated Period
- Mitama performs adjustments on more Magical Girls and sees more memories that should not exist. She pieces them together and finds a Kamihama slightly different from her own which she dubs the “Alternate Kamihama.” Over the next two days, several Magical Girls with memories of the other world come for adjustments and Mitama does not reveal whose memories she saw out of respect to her clients' privacy, but she shares information with Momoko without naming names.[4]
- Mitama explains that in the Alternate Kamihama, Momoko and Mitama are a team of two, Yachiyo acts like Momoko’s big sister, Kaede is on Nanaka’s team and that Kako is missing. There is also a serious rivalry between Nanaka’s team and Konoha’s team in the Sankyo Ward, as both teams had lost their youngest members, Kako and Ayame. Yachiyo is also in charge there but struggles to keep the order. Kako and Ayame are friends in this world, but Mitama has not seen either of them in the other world. Mitama almost reveals private information about Karin and an older student but stops herself. A small detail is that Mitama asks Momoko about an exclusive wallpaper of the Mocha Bunny, and Momoko sends her a link. Mitama notices the crucial detail that in the Alternate Kamihama, Mocha Bunny’s bow tie is red, but in their world, it is blue.[4]
- On a later day, a wounded Magical Girl is brought to Mitama’s shop and Mitama heals her with adjustments. This girl has more memories of the Alternate Kamihama than any previous client and the situation there is dire. Nanaka’s team and Konoha’s team both blame each other for crossing a line first and the conflict spreads from Sankyo Ward to other wards. Three friends from the Daito Apartment Complex, Reira, Seika and Mito, had their Soul Gems taken and were locked in separate rooms and a voice from inside their Soul Gems asked for the words in their hearts. The three answered “Four-leaf clover” and got their gems back, but one girl fainted from fatigue. Mitama suspects someone mistook them for a threat.[4]
- Momoko asks about Iroha and Kyubey, worrying about Iroha in the other world. Mitama says no one has seen Iroha there and that the small Kyubey is also missing, but the normal Kyubey still exists in the Alternate Kamihama. Momoko has not seen Kyubey in their own world for months. Mitama refuses to share more due to confidentiality and calls herself an unreliable narrator, so Momoko agrees to stay as her investigative assistant.[4]
- Mitama thinks about how the memories were gathered, and that a few days ago, a group of friends from Kamihama ended up in the Alternate Kamihama. They were together one second and scattered the next, and though they searched for each other and talked to many Magical Girls along the way, they noticed something was wrong. One of them said they cannot tell anyone how they got there and Mitama almost forgot to mention that Mocha Bunny’s bow tie is red in the other world, yet Momoko is not impressed.[4]
- Doyle meows at Mitama and she thinks he wants her to apologize to Momoko and she also thinks about the one secret she cannot tell anyone: the Alternate Kamihama is a world without Witches. Then she finds a phone that a client left behind and she accidentally turns it on, seeing that the wallpaper shows Mocha Bunny with a red bow tie, making Mitama wonder if the phone came from the other world.[4]
- Mitama keeps the phone, as she cannot return it yet because schedules do not match. She learns about Rumors, or Uwasa in Kamihama: mysterious beings that make rumors come true. Momoko tells her about the Rumor of the Rule of Ending Friendships, which nearly trapped Kaede and Rena forever. Mitama reveals that in the Alternate Kamihama, Kaede and Rena are very close and never argue, but that Rena works alone there. Momoko is no longer surprised by anything Mitama says.[4]
- Momoko advises Mitama to record all details about the Alternate Kamihama while they are fresh and Mitama starts writing “The Case Files of the Coordinator.” She notes the color of Mocha Bunny’s bow tie, team relationships, and the disappearances of Kako and Ayame. While writing, Nanaka walks in to return a borrowed book and overhears Mitama say that Kako disappeared, prompting Mitama to explain everything.[4]
- Nanaka asks many questions, joking about Mitama’s inability to keep secrets. Then she asks seriously why the Sankyo Ward is the source of conflict in the other world and she suspects there is more to the situation. She asks Mitama to tell her about the incident that sparked the conflict and after hearing her out, Nanaka says she will keep the information to herself for now. She advises Mitama to talk directly to the owner of the phone from the other world and that the girls who ended up there know how they got there.[4]
- Mitama meets the girl who left the phone and she does not hesitate to tell the truth because Mitama would see it in her memories anyway. The girl explains the Rumor of Parallel Memories. The rumor says that if you get an item of proof from a parallel world and pray to the central tower, you can travel to and from a parallel Kamihama. The world they visited was a dream projected by the Rumor and it shows a world that “could be.” The girl and her friends all had the same dream at the same time.[4]
- Mitama tells Momoko the Alternate Kamihama was just a dream and Momoko is relieved. Mitama explains the Mandela effect phenomenon: many people misremember the same fact, leading to a theory that those are memories from a parallel world. The Rumor of Parallel Memories lets you enter a dream of such a world and a lot of girls fell victim to it, including Ren, Kokoro, and Karin, who also got a strange sketchbook and ended up in the world of her own manga, which was traumatic. The dream world is dangerous because one's are asleep the entire time, but to leave, they can simply wish to go back. The issue is that if someone does not know that, they could waste away.[4]
- Momoko asks what kind of world the girls went to and Mitama admits it was a world without Witches. Momoko is upset Mitama kept that secret and asks if all worlds without Witches are that violent, but Mitama says no, clarifying that the fighting in the Alternate Kamihama had nothing to do with Witches. Their own world has Witches and people still fight and that the Alternate Kamihama is just one possibility.[4]
- The next day, Mitama tells Nanaka the Rumor explanation, but Nanaka still wonders why there was so much fighting, and that not all worlds without Witches would be that hostile. She thinks someone is behind the conflict and she names Hanna Sarasa, who is dead in this world. Nanaka says the targets in the Alternate Kamihama were all connected to Hanna, and that the method matches Hanna’s style: using suggestion to bend wills, laying traps, spreading rumors, making people doubt everyone. The trap for the Daito Apartment Complex girls feels like someone who enjoys watching others suffer. While Mitama is convinced, she notes the Alternate Kamihama is not real and Nanaka also agrees it is a nightmare that never became reality because Hanna died. Then Nanaka mentions a recent incident: a certain book nearly destroyed her friendship with Kako. It felt deliberate, but thankfully Hanna is dead, though Mitama becomes unsettled.[4]

- Mitama asks herself why she is still looking into the case, recalling two girls with bad experiences. Felicia saw a nightmare in the Endless Mirrors Labyrinth and was despondent for days, but she does not remember anything. Reira also tapped a weird link in a Magical Girls’ group chat and she started having nightmares that made things awkward between her and her best friend Seika. Mitama notes that nightmares testing friendships cannot be a coincidence and that the girls who ended up in the Alternate Kamihama also got into trouble because of a phone. Mitama connects the dots and creates a vague profile: a mean-spirited person who likes to show nightmares and test hearts, using a phone, located in Endless Mirrors, the large Labyrinth inside the Mirror Witch’s Mansion and where all the magic of Kamihama gathers. Mitama decides to take a look and asks Reira about the group chat. The account that posted the link has been deleted, but the culprit might still watch with another account. Mitama posts a message asking if anyone has had bad experiences related to Endless Mirrors, hoping the culprit will see it. She then receives a video chat invitation from a caller ID: H. S.[4]
- Hanna Sarasa appears on the video call and says she is not the Hanna Sarasa that Mitama knows. She is the Hanna from a parallel world and that she is glad Mitama finally figured things out. She has been playing hide-and-seek and running out of time. She is in Endless Mirrors and tells Mitama to come alone, claiming she can tell Mitama about the serious consequences of her wish, which Mitama kept secret. She wonders if her wish brought Hanna to this world and she closes her shop early to go to Endless Mirrors. Momoko notices something is wrong.[4]
- Inside Endless Mirrors, Hanna watches Mitama through copies, using the power of suggestion to control people. Mitama asks if the Alternate Kamihama is where Hanna is from and she confirms. She claims the world Mitama assumed was just a dream actually exists and that the dream shown by the Rumor happens to be exactly like Hanna’s world.[4]
- Hanna explains there is a narrow tunnel connecting the two worlds and that the exit in Mitama’s world is inside Endless Mirrors. A Magical Girl with the power to connect spaces, possibly the alternate version of Shizuku, was forced by Hanna to use all her power to open the hole. Hanna wanted to find Mikoto Sena, who had disappeared in her world. The tunnel is too small for a person, only big enough for a phone, but Hanna used the copies and Familiars in Endless Mirrors to do her work. She had tossed a phone through the hole and waited for someone to pick it up, and the Rumor of Parallel Memories did the rest.[4]
- Hanna admits she is not actually in Endless Mirrors, but in an abandoned corner of the Alternate Kamihama. The background image was fake and the tunnel will close in a few days. The Endless Mirrors Familiars built a magical projector that can exchange things of equal value between the two worlds, an if Mitama turns the handle, they will trade places: Mitama goes to the Alternate Kamihama, and Hanna comes to Mitama’s world. Hanna has been using her power of suggestion on Mitama and she makes her turn the handle.[4]
- Mitama finds herself in the dark abandoned corner of the Alternate Kamihama and Hanna arrives in Mitama’s world. Hanna explains her full plan: she wanted to find Mikoto and she tested her methods on Nanaka and Kako, then on the Daito girls and Felicia. She left subtle hints to lure Mitama to Endless Mirrors and Mitama’s curiosity and guilt made her the perfect bait.[4]
- Momoko, who had followed Mitama, telepathically messages her and Momoko catches Hanna off-guard. She turns the handle of the projector in reverse and Mitama returns to her own world while Hanna goes back to the Alternate Kamihama.[4]
- The tunnel closes a few days later and Momoko does not remember much of the incident. Mitama does not either; her last memory is reaching for the handle and Momoko explains what happened. The projector is destroyed, and Hanna cannot return. Mitama warns everyone to stay away from Endless Mirrors for a few days and nothing else happens.[4]
- Mitama reflects on how she almost became the kitten killed by curiosity. But it was guilt that trapped her instead. She decides will continue to act as a neutral Coordinator, hiding secrets behind confidentiality and she plays with Doyle using a new foxtail cat toy.[4]
- Several days after the initial argument, Momoko notes that Rena Minami has not apologized to Kaede, which is unusual behavior. Kaede spends her time alone, and Momoko expresses worry for her. During this time, Iroha encounters a witch and rescues Kaede. Kaede admits she was running away from Momoko to avoid being forced to see Rena, and that she wants to apologize but doesn't think she can.[3]
- Several more days later, Momoko decides to intervene in the dispute. Iroha offers to help, and Momoko accepts, promising to aid Iroha in her search for Ui in return.[3]
- Momoko devises a plan to lure Rena and Kaede to the same location. The plan involves waiting for Rena at her student committee meeting. Iroha waits for a long time, but Momoko calls to say the meeting was cancelled and Rena went home early. Momoko tells Iroha to find Rena at the game center. Iroha finds Rena at the arcade playing a game and attempts to lure her to an abandoned construction site with a false story about a live show from Sayuki Fumino, Rena's favorite idol. Rena sees through the ruse. Kaede arrives and confronts Rena directly, demanding an apology. When Rena refuses, Kaede attempts to apologize herself. Rena reacts with panic and tries to stop her, revealing her belief in the Rule of Ending Friendships Rumor and her fear that an apology would cause Kaede to be taken. Rena denies this and runs off. Iroha and Kaede chase her and run into Momoko, but Kaede realizes it's a transformed Rena. Rena returns to her normal appearance and admits she believes in the rumor.[3]
- As Kaede completes her apology, a strange Labyrinth, distinct from a Witch's Barrier, manifests. Monstrous Familiars appear, seize Kaede, and drag her away, confirming the Rumor's power. Rena runs off, determined to find a solution.[3]
- Momoko and Iroha regroup and Momoko expresses more concern over Rena Minami's departure than Kaede Akino's capture, but trusts that Rena had a reason. Iroha suggests asking Mitama for help. Momoko reveals that Mitama accepts payment in Grief Seeds, and she's running low. Lil' Kyubey then finds Rena, who was looking for Momoko. They follow the residual magic trail and find Rena, who reveals she sought information from Yachiyo on how to counter the Rumor. The group returns to the abandoned construction site, where Rena shouts an apology to Kaede to lure out the entity. The Uwasa's Labyrinth manifests, and a brainwashed Kaede appears, followed by monstrous Familiars. The Uwasa captures Rena too and Yachiyo arrives, confirms the Rumor's power, and joins the fight. Yachiyo subdues the possessed Kaede, and Momoko and Iroha proceed deeper into the Labyrinth and find the Uwasa, "Ms. Staircase," which has also possessed Rena. Momoko and Iroha try attacking the witch, but it has no effect. Yachiyo then arrives, having knocked Kaede out. Yachiyo admits she doesn't know how to defeat the witch either. Kaede returns and teams up with a now brainwashed Rena. Yachiyo knocks them out and notes the witch may have increased their powers, at the cost of darkening their Soul Gems. Yachiyo catches up and defeats both possessed girls to neutralize the threat without serious injury. Iroha proposes a coordinated attack to counteract the Uwasa's nature, so Iroha, Momoko, and Yachiyo combine their attacks and destroy the Uwasa.[3]
- After the battle, Yachiyo provides a Grief Seed to revive the exhausted Kaede and Iroha also uses her healing powers to help awaken her. Yachiyo identifies the entity as an "Uwasa," a being distinct from Witches and Familiars that exists to protect a Rumor. Afterward, the girls find Rena and Kaede. Kaede awakens and reconciles with Rena. The four girls then all share pudding together, affirming their friendship.[3]
- Sometime later, to fulfill her promise, Momoko has Rena use her transformation magic to investigate the hospital records. Rena confirms that Touka Satomi and Nemu Hiiragi were real patients discharged around the same time as Ui. However, Rena finds no record of Ui Tamaki's existence at the hospital. Despite this setback, Iroha resolves to continue her search.[3]
- One day, Iroha visits Mitama for a Soul Gem alignment. During the procedure, Mitama's hunger causes Iroha to see visions of food. Momoko arrives and notes Mitama's treatments are ineffective when she is hungry. The three go to Mitama's kitchen, where her dangerous cooking prompts Iroha to recall memories of cooking for her sister, Ui. Iroha remembers a specific incident where she burned hamburg steak for Ui in the hospital, but her mother brought a replacement, and Ui enjoyed the meal regardless.[6]
- Iroha enters the Mirror Mansion and finds Mitama already there. Mitama warns her to be careful and explains the mansion is the lair of the Mirror Witch. A familiar throws Iroha into a barrier where she fights a copy of herself.[7]
- After defeating the duplicate, Iroha returns to the entrance. Mitama explains the barrier is populated by replicas and the Mirror Witch lies at the end. Iroha decides to prepare herself to fight the Witch.[8]
- Inside, Iroha finds Kaede yelling at her duplicate. Yachiyo intervenes and tells Iroha to defeat the fake.[9]
- After the false Kaede is defeated, Kaede explains she entered with Momoko and Rena but got separated. Yachiyo explains the barrier constantly changes. The group returns to Mitama.[10]
- Mitama says Momoko and Rena have not left. The group enters again to find them.[11]
- They find Ria Ami, who claims to be Yachiyo's rival. Yachiyo barely remembers her. Ria says she cannot forgive the fakes for duplicating her beauty. Ria ignores Yachiyo's warning about a mirror and Yachiyo suddenly disappears.[12]
- Ria offers to help search for Yachiyo. Iroha accepts.[13]
- Yachiyo finds Momoko, who attacks her, believing Yachiyo is a fake. The real Yachiyo realizes Momoko encountered a replica. They destroy the false Yachiyo together.[14]
- Ria notices Rena nearby. Kaede immediately realizes she is a fake when she does not respond antagonistically.[15]
- The real Rena confirms her identity by yelling. The fake Rena attacks. Momoko and Yachiyo arrive. After a test of strength confirms their identities, they fight the fakes.[16]
- After leaving the barrier, the group departs. Iroha hangs back with Mitama and says she felt something off in the barrier. Mitama encourages her to go deeper but warns her not to lose herself.[17]
- One week after the defeat of the Uwasa of Ending Friendships, Iroha has found no new clues about Ui, Touka Satomi, or Nemu Hiiragi. Kaede tells Iroha and Rena a rumor that the children kidnapped by the previous Uwasa returned after its defeat. This gives Iroha the idea that if she defeats other Rumors, people trapped by them, including Ui, might be freed. She recalls a conversation where Ui spoke about imagination becoming reality, which strengthens her resolve. Iroha decides to actively investigate Kamihama's Rumors and she meets Mitama, who suggests Iroha look into a rumor about a shrine in Mizuna Ward.[18]
- Later that day, in Mizuna Ward, Iroha has no success finding information about the shrine rumor. She meets Tsuruno Yui, a Magical Girl who calls herself the "Mightiest." Tsuruno tells Iroha about the "Séance Shrine" rumor, which claims it can reunite people with those they yearn to see. Iroha decides this is a promising lead to find Ui.[18]
- The next day, Tsuruno tasks Iroha with investigating a local legend about a tragic couple, which may connect to the Séance Shrine rumor. Tsuruno explains the folk tale in detail: a woman whose lover was killed found a paper with his handwriting, went to the place written on it, and was able to meet his ghost. She suggests Iroha investigate the path while she investigates shrines. Iroha completes a stamp rally related to the legend. She discovers the path is part of a town renewal project meant for couples and finds she only has half the map, requiring a partner with a "Sheet B." Yachiyo appears, coincidentally in possession of Sheet B. They combine their sheets, which reveals a map that leads them to Mizuna Shrine. Before they leave, Yachiyo points out Iroha dropped her notebook, which Iroha hurriedly claims is her homework. At the final stamp rally location, a woman makes them confess their feelings for each other to get a matchmaking charm. Afterward, Yachiyo notices Iroha is writing in a "Kamihama Mystery Notes" notebook, and Iroha admits she's copying Yachiyo. Yachiyo determines this is not the Séance Shrine, and they part ways. Iroha agrees to help Tsuruno investigate further the next day. Later, Iroha spots a shrine on a rooftop from a train.[18]
- Mami discusses Kamihama City's anomalies with Kyubey, who agrees to share information. She then meets Kyoko and informs her about the high concentration of Witches in Kamihama. Kyoko is eager to hunt there but promises to leave if it becomes too dangerous. Mami remains concerned about the Witch shortage elsewhere.[18]
- Iroha investigates the rooftop shrine location. She senses strong magic, enters a Witch's Labyrinth, and is overwhelmed by powerful Familiars. Yachiyo arrives and assists her and together, they defeat the Witch. After the battle, a store sale gives Yachiyo a new idea after she uncharacteristically begged Iroha for help getting to the sale. She deduces the Séance Shrine is Mizuna Shrine, but it must be visited at night just like in the folk tale. Yachiyo invites Iroha to investigate the shrine that night, and Iroha requests to bring Tsuruno.[18]
- That night, Iroha, Yachiyo, and Tsuruno sneak into Mizuna Shrine after hours. Tsuruno reveals that she and Yachiyo are former teammates and Yachiyo explains the Rumor of the Séance Shrine: those who write a name on a wooden plaque and pray at the shrine will be reunited with that person, but risk being trapped in bliss. They perform the ritual. Iroha prays to be reunited with Ui. Tsuruno provokes the Uwasa, which manifests and attacks. Yachiyo urges Iroha to complete the ritual as the Uwasa's minions approach and Iroha does so.[18]

- Iroha finds herself alone in a twilight version of the shrine. A false version of Ui appears but only repeats a cryptic message: "To change your fate, come to Kamihama City... Here, Magical Girls can be saved." The illusion then shatters and Iroha locates Yachiyo, who is confronted by a manifestation of her missing friend, Mifuyu Azusa. Yachiyo determines this Mifuyu is an imposter created by the Uwasa and the two defeat her. Afterward, Iroha uses her Grief Seed to purify Yachiyo's Soul Gem, and they realize they are both searching for someone.[18]
- Mami encounters Kaede, who is hesitating to enter a Witch's Barrier. Mami invites Kaede to join her, and they defeat the Witch together. Afterwards, Kaede tells Mami about her recent experience with a "Rumor," an entity with a magical signature unlike a Witch or Magical Girl. Mami dismisses the story as a coincidence but is intrigued by the unknown energy. To avoid involving Kaede in further conflict, Mami decides to investigate the Rumor alone.[19]
- Tsuruno joins with the two of them and the Uwasa of the Séance Shrine manifests to attack them directly. The trio's attacks prove ineffective and Iroha's Soul Gem becomes critically corrupted during the fight. As she nears her limit, an unknown power erupts from within her. This power, her Doppel, which consumes the impurities in her Soul Gem, destroys the Uwasa and leaves her Soul Gem completely purified.[18]
- Immediately after the battle, Mami enters the Rumor's Barrier and witnesses Iroha unleash her Doppel. Mistaking it for a human-disguised Witch, Mami attacks Iroha, who tries and fails to summon her Doppel again to defend herself. The confrontation is interrupted by Momoko Togame, forcing Mami to retreat, but she vows to pursue Iroha.[18][19]
- Madoka and Homura arrive in Kamihama City and they sense a Witch and enter its Barrier, finding a Magical Girl fighting it. The Witch escapes and the Barrier vanishes. Madoka asks if the girl is alright, but she leaves and Madoka runs off after her.[20]
- The Magical Girl feels exhausted from overusing magic. Madoka finds her and guides her to a bench. Madoka offers to buy her a drink. Homura appears and offers to get it. The girl thanks Madoka and introduces herself as Shizuku Hozumi.[20]
- Shizuku asks why Madoka helped. Madoka says it was because Shizuku looked like she was in pain. Shizuku calls Madoka kind. Madoka says it is bad to be alone. Shizuku says being alone is fine and she will find where she belongs. Madoka suggests Shizuku could create her own place to belong. Homura returns with drinks.[20]
- Shizuku asks why Madoka became a Magical Girl. Madoka explains she has no particular talent and wanted to be useful to someone. Shizuku realizes Madoka made a place for herself by becoming a Magical Girl. She thanks Madoka for giving her hope and leaves.[20]
- Madoka makes an offering at a shrine, praying for everyone's happiness. It rains and stops, leaving Madoka wet. A girl offers her a handkerchief and explains they missed the bus. Madoka notices the girl has a book she loves. The girl admits it is her favorite. Madoka introduces herself and the girl says her name is Kako Natsume. They talk about the book until the bus arrives and part ways.[20]
- Madoka goes to a bookstore and buys the sequel. Kako is also there. Kako asks if Madoka is a Magical Girl, having noticed her Soul Gem ring, and reveals she is one as well. Kako invites Madoka on a night-time adventure at her school.[20]
- Later that day, Mami finds Kyoko and, relieved she has not yet gone to Kamihama, recounts the event and describes Iroha as a "humanoid Witch." She pleads with Kyoko to avoid the city and offers to provide her with Grief Seeds, to which Kyoko reluctantly agrees.[19]
- Concurrently, Kaede, Rena, and Momoko discuss the incident. They conclude it was a misunderstanding and speculate they will meet Mami again.[19]
- Later, after Yachiyo uses Iroha's phone to explain the situation to Iroha's mother and get permission for her to stay out, Yachiyo takes Iroha to her home, Mikazuki Villa, as her assistant. Yachiyo formally invites Iroha to be her assistant and use the villa as a base to investigate Kamihama's Rumors together. Iroha accepts. Tsuruno arrives and declares herself part of the team as well, and then reveals that a girl named Nemu Hiiragi is a regular customer at her family's restaurant, providing Iroha with a significant new lead.[18]
- Shortly after the defeat of the Séance Shrine Uwasa, Iroha, Yachiyo, and Tsuruno attempt to find Nemu Hiiragi at her family's restaurant in Sankyo Ward, but learn she only visits once a month. Yachiyo suggests using a phone book to find Nemu's home address, but their search yields no results. Iroha reveals her family will move overseas and she will soon relocate to Kamihama and while searching, Iroha drinks water from a "Water Station with the Owl Sign." After drinking, she begins to find pieces of paper with decreasing numbers. Yachiyo identifies this as a potential new Rumor.[18][21]
- Kyoko travels to Kamihama's Sankyo Ward against Mami's advice and upon entering the city, she finds it overrun with aggressive Witches and Familiars. After the battles, she notices a crowd around a man giving out free water, and, after drinking it, begins to find papers with a countdown from 24.[21]
- The next morning, the countdown has reached 10. Kyoko returns to Kamihama to investigate and meets Yachiyo Nanami, who explains the phenomenon is a Rumor. Kyoko refuses Yachiyo's offer to help, resolving to confront the threat alone.[21]
- After learning Nemu's family were regulars, Iroha searches eats at Banbanzai daily. Yachiyo suggests she use a phonebook, but her visits to three different houses are unsuccessful. Iroha and another girl receive water from an old man at a shop with an owl sign. Later, Iroha returns to the Water Station but finds it has vanished. She meets the girl she saw earlier, Felicia Mitsuki, another Magical Girl and receives the numbered papers. Iroha convinces Felicia to help investigate the Rumor.[22]
- During this time, Iroha tells Yachiyo over the phone that she would be moving because her father was going abroad for work, and her mother was accompanying him. She plans to stay at a dormitory attached to her new school, which is also where Tsuruno went, but there were no rooms available. While discussing this, the numbered papers begin falling on Iroha.[22]
- Later that day, Kyoko encounters Rena Minami and Kaede Akino. They lead her to Tsuruno Yui's restaurant, where Kyoko learns the others are also investigating the Rumor. The three Magical Girls fight a Witch together, and after the battle, Rena and Kaede identify Kyoko's affliction as the "Rumor of the Misery Water" and offer to help. Kyoko, reminded of her past with Mami, rejects their offer and leaves.[21]
- Separately, Yachiyo encounters Kyoko Sakura, who is also affected by the Rumor. Yachiyo proposes they investigate together, but Kyoko refuses, stating that Uwasa are not Witches and do not provide Grief Seeds.[22]
- Later the same day, Iroha and Felicia investigate the Rumor, where Felicia's reckless fighting style nearly injures Iroha against a Witch. Felicia explains she became a Magical Girl for revenge against the Witch that killed her parents. The Lil' Kyubey appears and reveals the "Rumor of the Misery Water," which states a disaster will befall those who drank the water after 24 hours. The countdown shows they have less than five hours.[22]
- Members of a group called the Wings of the Magius appear and attempt to stop them from pursuing the Uwasa. They state their goal is to "liberate" all Magical Girls and that the Rumors are essential to this plan. Felicia pretends to betray the group to infiltrate the Wings, a plan that Yachiyo had actually hired her for. However, she later genuinely defects after they offer her a substantial reward. Iroha confronts Felicia, who claims nothing could make her life worse. Iroha learns about Felicia's treasured stuffed animal, a cow her parents gave her. Iroha convinces Felicia that losing it would be a personal disaster. Felicia rejoins the group and reveals the Wings' base is under a school in Sankyo Ward.[22]
- Throughout this ordeal, Kyoko has followed Iroha's group and when they're confronted the Black Feathers of the Wings of the Magius, she assists them in their fight. The countdown reaches one hour.[22]
- With less than one hour remaining, the team is confronted by the White Feathers, Tsukuyo and Tsukasa Amane, who use sound-based magic. Tsuruno devises a plan to counter their attacks by creating a loud noise to disrupt the sound waves. The team defeats the Amane sisters, but then they unleash powerful entities from their bodies, that they call "Doppels," which they describe as a projection of their emotions and the key to liberating Magical Girls. The team withstands the Doppel's attack, and with 30 minutes remaining, Yachiyo and Tsuruno stay behind to hold off the remaining White Feathers. Iroha, Felicia, and Kyoko proceed into the Uwasa's Labyrinth, and with 10 minutes remaining, they locate the Uwasa of the Misery Water, a large cup-like creature protected by falling boulders. Iroha's long-range attack proves ineffective, and Felicia devises a plan to use the falling boulders as platforms to reach the Uwasa. With one minute remaining, Felicia executes her plan and launches her attack on the Uwasa and successfully defeats it.[22]
- Yachiyo and Tsuruno subdue the Amane sisters, but then Mifuyu, Yachiyo's missing friend, appears and reveals she is a high-ranking member of the Wings of the Magius. She refuses to return with Yachiyo, stating her faith in the Magius' goal of liberation. Iroha asks Mifuyu if she knows Ui Tamaki, and she suggests Ui could be a member of the Wings of the Magius but claims to have no specific knowledge. With this, Mifuyu and the Amane sisters retreat.[22]
- Yachiyo resolves to continue eliminating Rumors to confront the Wings of the Magius and save Mifuyu. Iroha agrees to continue as her assistant, believing the Wings are connected to Ui's disappearance. Tsuruno also pledges her help and Kyoko departs.[22]
- Later that day, the group walks home and Iroha invites Felicia to stop working as a mercenary and team up as friends. Yachiyo offers Felicia room and board at Mikazuki Villa in exchange for her services, and Tsuruno offers Felicia a job at her family's restaurant, which includes meals. Yachiyo then invites Iroha to live at Mikazuki Villa as well, to make their investigations easier. Iroha's parents approve the arrangement.[22]
- That night, Kyoko meets Mami and explains that the "humanoid Witch" was a Doppel. Mami confronts Kyoko for disobeying her and expresses a desire to protect her as a former friend. Kyoko rejects this, stating she has changed and believes their paths are destined to remain separate. She reaffirms her resolve to live only for herself.[21]
- In the following days, Iroha moves into Mikazuki Villa and she and Yachiyo reaffirm their commitment to find Ui and Mifuyu.[22]
- One week after Madoka's first visit, Kako and Madoka meet at the school to go to the roof and a cat startles them. Kako suggests transforming and using their powers to reach the roof. Once there, Kako tells Madoka to look at the starry sky, explaining that on this day you can see the most beautiful stars. Kako admits she is shy but can talk properly with Madoka, and this star viewing is her thanks. Madoka says Kako's honest feelings reached her.[20]
- Madoka and Mami fight a Witch. A normal person is kidnapped and brought into the Barrier. Mami tells Madoka to rescue the person while she handles the Witch. A Magical Girl appears, impressed Madoka is helping people. She introduces herself as Sasara Minagi, the knight who protects the city. She asks Madoka to let her save the victim so Madoka can help Mami. Madoka agrees and returns to Mami. Together they defeat the Witch.[20]
- The Barrier vanishes and they meet Sasara outside. Sasara says she took the victim to the hospital. Sasara compliments their strength and offers to help if they are in trouble, explaining that rescuing people is her specialty and protecting everyone is her creed. Madoka says she is cool. Sasara says she is happy to meet Magical Girls like them, explaining that Kamihama has more Witches, drawing Magical Girls who only care about fighting, not saving people. Sasara became a knight because she cannot accept people being sacrificed.[20]
- Mami agrees. Sasara says she rarely met others who think this way. Madoka says she became a Magical Girl to help people and is like Sasara. Sasara calls Madoka incredible. Mami says Madoka might become the strongest Magical Girl someday, but has a long way to go. Sasara says both are worthy of the title "knight." When Mami points out they use projectile weapons, Sasara suggests they can be a rescue team. She offers to team up, but Madoka and Mami note they are not always in Kamihama. Madoka offers to help if Sasara is in trouble while they are there. Sasara thanks them and departs.[20]
- Mami says Madoka is too kind and honest, wondering if she is walking a path of battle. Madoka points out Mami walks the same path, saying she aspired to be like Mami. Mami thanks her but advises running away if truly in danger. Madoka says it is fine, as she does not have the courage to sacrifice herself. Mami invites her for tea once they return to Mitakihara. Madoka narrates her wish to protect everyone with her own power.[20]
- One day, at Mikazuki Villa, Felicia returns with souvenirs. She criticizes Iroha's cooking, and the group goes to Tsuruno's family restaurant. Felicia laughs at the revelation that Tsuruno's politically-influential family now runs a Chinese restaurant, hurting Tsuruno's feelings. Iroha scolds Felicia for her insensitivity, causing Felicia to run off crying. Felicia finds Tsuruno at a park and apologizes. They reconcile, and Iroha apologizes for her harshness.[6]
- One day, Kyoko Sakura fights a witch in Kamihama City after moving there in search of them, but Felicia Mitsuki appears and delivers the killing blow first. They argue over the Grief Seed until Felicia suggests sharing it, and Kyoko concedes since the seed is used up anyway.[23]
- As she's hungry, Kyoko follows Felicia to Mitama's shop, where Mitama is looking for magical girls to taste test her cooking. When Mitama prepares to cook, the girls quickly realize she cannot handle a knife when it flies into the ceiling, forcing them to take over cutting and peeling. After they prepare the ingredients, Mitama adds the seasoning, but the girls later discover she had been using paint.[23]
- The girls refuse to let Mitama cook again and order her to get something ready-made instead. Mitama goes shopping with Felicia while Kyoko waits, and the result is a chaotic mix of items Felicia added. The meal is horrible, but Kyoko, who never wastes food, eats it all anyway and passes out.[23]
- When Kyoko wakes up, she notices her body feels hot. Felicia explains she used her powers on their Soul Gems while they were unconscious, awakening Kyoko's magic. Kyoko realizes the heat is her own power emerging, and Felicia assures her she will get used to it.[23]
- Mitama offers the girls a limited-time service and mentions causing trouble recently when she made sweets for some girls. Kyoko asks if she means Mami Tomoe, and when Mitama asks if they are friends, Kyoko says she is kind of like one.[23]
- Felicia and Kyoko depart, with Kyoko remarking that Mitama's food is the kind you only have once in a lifetime, while Mitama is happy to have new customers.[23]
- Iroha returns to the Mirror Mansion. Tsuruno appears and insists they go in together, saying the copies make good training opponents. Unbeknownst to Iroha, Yachiyo asked Tsuruno to look out for her. They hear someone laughing and find Emiri and three duplicates.[24]
- The Emiris explain the original got separated from her friends. One Emiri says she is the original and must search for them. She asks Iroha and Tsuruno to find Hinano and Rika.[25]
- They find Hinano, but Emiri says this Hinano is a fake.[26]
- The fake Hinano attacks and they fight.[27]
- After defeating the fake, Emiri pulls the real Hinano out of a gap in the barrier. Hinano says Rika got separated from her.[28]
- Hinano suggests they split up to search for Rika.[29]
- Iroha returns to Mitama, who says there is not much time left. Mitama tells Iroha to hurry back before she is out of time.[30]
- Hinano and Tsuruno find Rika, who tells them to leave her alone. More fake Rikas surround them. Emiri returns with Ren Isuzu as an ally.[31]
- Ren shouts at the fakes and they fight. After defeating them, they find the unconscious Rika. She awakens and explains she looked into a mirror and remembers nothing after that. They leave the barrier. Iroha heads to Mitama's place but cannot find her.[32]
- Two days later, Hazuki meets with Seika, Leila, and Mito to tell them about Mitama's disappearance. The three agree to help search.[33]
- Konoha contacts Yachiyo and asks to speak in person. She requests Yachiyo's help searching for Mitama. Yachiyo agrees. Konoha informs her that Mitama frequently visits an area in Daito Ward called "Swindlers' Town."[34]
- The next day, three days since Mitama's disappearance, Iroha tells Yachiyo about it. They decide to investigate the labyrinth. Seika, Leila, and Mito also enter the barrier on their own to search for Mitama despite Hazuki's warning.[35]
- Inside, Seika, Leila, and Mito argue until Mito reminds them of their promise about punishments. Mito closes her eyes but opens them and blocks the blow, realizing the other two are Mirror copies. The real Leila and Seika call out nearby. The trio fights off their own copies and leaves the barrier. Kako and Nanaka greet them.[36]
- Hazuki, Konoha, and Ayame also venture into Endless Mirrors. They continue deeper and find themselves in front of Azalea House in an illusion. Ayame slices through a false caretaker, which turns into a Familiar. Konoha hears a signature and they head toward it. They meet Nanaka and Meiyui, whose illusion had interfered with theirs.[37]
- Yachiyo meets Himika outside Swindlers' Town. Leila's group finds Yachiyo and explains they were searching for Mitama while collecting Mirror Coins. They search an abandoned factory and find Mitama, who explains Mirrors has started to move.[38]
- Mitama explains a Familiar grew into maturity in Swindlers' Town and she could not allow a new Labyrinth. She had caged it with Mirror Coins but Leila's group picked them up. The group decides to take down the newly hatched Witch.[39]
- The group enters the barrier and finds Nanaka's group. They realize the original Witch connected the two labyrinths. They team up to take down the newly hatched Witch.[40]
- Mitama adjusts the Mirror Coins to self-destruct. The others exit, but Yachiyo stays to help Mitama escape. The barrier collapses and both survive.[41]
- Back at her shop, Mitama explains her theory: the Mirror Witch was originally Mikoto Sena, a Magical Girl from Daito Ward whose unique magic was suggestion. Mikoto's mother still lives in Swindlers' Town. Mitama hopes her theory is partially wrong, but she does not tell Yachiyo that the date Mikoto became a Witch was the same day Mitama made her wish.[42]
Sunday, the 28th
- At some point, in Mitakihara City, Homura Akemi experiences an anomaly during a routine Witch hunt with Madoka Kaname and Mami while fighting Patricia. While time is stopped, a mysterious girl appears before her, unseen by the others. This girl tells Homura that if she wishes to change the fate of Magical Girls, specifically Madoka's, she must go to Kamihama City. The vision vanishes as quickly as it appeared, leaving Homura to ponder this cryptic message alone.[43]
Intermediate Period
Not accounting for the events outside of the main story, which make it significantly longer, this section would stretch from Day 14 on Monday, the 29th to Day 22 on Tuesday, the 6th.
- A short time after Iroha moves into Mikazuki Villa, the group begins to feel like a family, playing mobile games and making dinner together. Iroha, Yachiyo, Tsuruno, and Felicia investigate the radio tower in Chuo Ward. Tsuruno reports hearing a strange, laughing girl's voice on the phone there and Yachiyo identifies this as the "Electric Wave Girl" rumor, which she previously considered harmless. They overhear passersby mention the rumor and a specific girl from their school and the team decides to investigate the rumor.[44]
- Iroha receives a text message from an unknown number that says, "Please, help me."[44]

- Homura, troubled by a new vision of a girl in Kamihama City, decides to investigate. She and Madoka discuss Kamihama with Mami, who warns them about the city's dangers, including powerful Witches, Rumors, and a "human witch." Mami insists on investigating alone first, and Homura and Madoka reluctantly agree to wait.[45]
- Meanwhile, Nagisa Momoe arrives in Kamihama using the Mirror Witch's Barrier as a portal, accompanied by a silent pink Kyubey. She immediately senses multiple magical signatures belonging to Charlotte and realizes the Nagisa of this world has already become a Witch, with Charlottes appearing all over the city. Deciding she cannot be bothered with pest control immediately, she resolves to find some cheese first.[46]
- Before she can do so, she is engulfed in Charlotte's barrier and overwhelmed by multiple Witches, forcing her to flee and seek help. After escaping, she enters another Charlotte's barrier to find Kanoko Yayoi struggling inside, and together they defeat the Witch. Kanoko takes Nagisa to Walnuts, where Manaka Kurumi serves her a three-course cheese meal while Nagisa explains the Witch multiplies rapidly and has likely spread across all of Kamihama. Kanoko and Manaka agree to help gather Magical Girls for a coordinated attack.[46]
- Nagisa runs out to scout but immediately runs into another Charlotte, and Manaka and Kanoko rescue her. They begin gathering Magical Girls, and soon a large group assembles including Ria Ami, Rika Ayano, Ren Isuzu, Akira Shinobu, Sasara Minagi, Asuka Tatsuki, Emiri Kisaki, Himika Mao, and later Kako Natsume and Meiyui Chun. During their meeting at the park, they are attacked by a Charlotte and after a grueling battle, they defeat it while realizing even with all of them, defeating one Charlotte was difficult. As the group descends into bickering over who should lead, Nagisa realizes she must reveal her true identity.[46]
- Nagisa explains she was sent from another universe to defeat this Witch, offering the pink Kyubey as proof. Though some are skeptical, Meiyui finds Nagisa interesting enough to play along, and secretly confirms the pink Kyubey's existence for Nanaka Tokiwa. Nagisa devises a strategy called "Welcome to Kamihama Cheese Party!" where Manaka sets up a giant cheese fondue by the river to attract every Charlotte in the city using the power of cheese. The plan succeeds, and with the teamwork of the Kamihama Magical Girls, every Charlotte is defeated.[46]
- Overwhelmed, Nagisa blows the pink Kyubey to smithereens, realizing she was sent not to unify this universe with the Law of Cycles, but to prevent that unification and protect humanity's unknown future. Certain now of her purpose, she decides to go sightseeing first.[46]
- Mami investigates Kamihama on her own, which leads her to the abandoned Kamihama Recording Museum where Mifuyu awaited her. Mifuyu and Alina Gray show her the truth of the Magical Girl system, which causes her to have a mental breakdown.[47]
- Nagisa contemplates what to do with her newfound freedom while her attempts to argue with the unresponsive pink Kyubey go nowhere. She notices Mami and decides to follow her, sensing that something is wrong with the version of Mami she once knew. Using her acting skills, Nagisa pretends to chase a butterfly before faking a life-threatening injury, and when Mami fails to notice, she yells at her until Mami finally takes care of her, establishing first contact.[48]
- Nagisa makes Mami promise to come play with her next time she visits Kamihama, and they part ways, but Mami quickly returns and they spend time together at the park. Mami is still acting strangely, so Nagisa decides not to push too hard and they simply talk before Mami goes home.[48]
- The next day, in Mitakihara, Madoka and Homura discover Mami is missing. Homura attempts to investigate Kamihama City alone, but Madoka follows her. They reunite at Kamihama's train station and begin their search. Meanwhile, in Kamihama, Iroha reports to Yachiyo that Momoko has found a password-protected website with information on the "Electric Wave Girl" rumor. Momoko also warns them to avoid an entity called "Endless Solitude." Iroha receives a mysterious text message that reads, "Please reply."[45][44]
- Homura is pulled into a Witch's Barrier and separated from Madoka. While searching for Homura, Madoka spots a girl heading toward the radio tower with a Witch's Kiss. Iroha and Yachiyo, having also spotted the same girl, rush to the tower to stop her from jumping. Madoka arrives and saves the girl. The three Magical Girls then enter the Witch's Labyrinth and defeat the Witch. After the battle, Madoka explains she is searching for her missing classmate, Mami Tomoe. The rescued girl reveals the "Electric Wave Girl" is a student at Mizuna Girls' Academy.[45]
- While Madoka is with Iroha and Yachiyo, Homura escapes the Witch's Barrier. She briefly assists Felicia and Tsuruno, who are at Mizuna Girls' Academy interrogating Tsukuyo Amane of the Wings of the Magius about the rumor. Yachiyo calls Tsuruno with the new information about the Mizuna student, which Tsuruno uses to pressure Tsukuyo into revealing the girl's name: Sana Futaba.[45][44]
- Meanwhile, another day finds Mami and Nagisa at the Kamihama copy of Tokyo Tower, where Mami begins opening up about her problems while they share cream cheese ice cream.[48]
- They are out playing together once again when Charlotte suddenly appears and attacks. Mami tells Nagisa to run, but Nagisa refuses to transform and nearly has her head bitten off. Realizing that Mami is afraid of being a magical girl and making further mistakes, Nagisa finally transforms, revealing her true identity, and saves Mami from being beheaded.[48]
- Nagisa cannot defeat Charlotte alone, but seeing her fight gives Mami the strength to overcome her fears, and together they manage to win. After the battle, Mami confronts Nagisa about what she truly is, but the pink Kyubey appears and Nagisa offers no real explanation. Now that Mami is feeling better, Nagisa decides they should part ways, promising Mami that she deserves happiness and that when they meet again they will have a tea party with cheesecake.[48]
- The Magius, including Touka and Nemu Hiiragi, would then decide to fuse Mami with an Uwasa to control her. This fusion warps her desire to save people into a fanatical loyalty to the Magius and she starts acting as their public figurehead in the Wings of the Magius.[47]
- Later that day at the radio tower, Iroha and Yachiyo meet up with Tsuruno and Felicia, and they are also joined by Homura, who had been searching for Madoka. Iroha receives another text from the unknown number, which now identifies itself as "Ai" and begs to be deleted to free the trapped girl, Sana. Iroha also reveals she was the "human witch" Mami had seen, and Homura agrees to trust her.[44]
- Ai provides a URL and password to a website called the "Kamihama Urban Legend Index" and the entry for the "Electric Wave Girl" reveals the Uwasa is named "Anonymous Ai," an A.I. that traps people in a dimension called "Endless Solitude." Madoka and Homura deduce Mami may also be trapped there.[44]
- Ai sends memory logs of its interactions with Sana, which reveal Sana is a Magical Girl who wished to become invisible because she felt unwanted. She sought out Ai due to loneliness and over time, Ai developed a genuine care for Sana and now wishes for her to be rescued, even at the cost of its own deletion. After reviewing Ai's memory logs, which detail Sana's loneliness and Ai's care for her, Iroha decides to jump from the radio tower to enter Endless Solitude and rescue Sana. Madoka, and Homura agree to accompany her.[44]

- Later, the three jump from the tower and enter the "Endless Solitude" Labyrinth, where they find Sana Futaba and Ai. Homura and Madoka formally join Iroha's team for the rescue. Alina Gray, one of the Magius, appears to stop them, claiming she fed Mami Tomoe to a Witch, and unleashes her Doppel. During the battle, Homura observes the Doppel's power and questions if the Magius' goal of saving Magical Girls is possible. She uses her time-stop magic to help Sana defeat Ai, and Sana ultimately destroys Ai, who thanks her before disappearing. Alina's hidden Witch emerges, and Yachiyo's team holds off the Wings of the Magius while Felicia, Madoka, and Homura pursue Alina. Felicia destroys the Witch, and the combined teams force Alina and the Wings of the Magius to retreat.[45][44]
- After the battle, Madoka and Homura return to Mitakihara, resolving to return to Kamihama to continue searching for Mami. Homura considers that Kamihama may hold the key to changing the fate of Madoka and all Magical Girls. Back in Kamihama, Yachiyo invites Sana to live at Mikazuki Villa, and the group holds a welcome party for her.[45][44]
- While Sayaka reflects on becoming a Magical Girl to heal Kyosuke and protect her friends, she learns from Madoka and Homura that Mami is missing. Despite warnings about the city's danger, Sayaka insists on joining their next search, stating her wish was to protect those she cares about. The three agree to go to Kamihama together.[45]
- Sometime later, Sana returns to her family home to formally sever ties, leaving a note of thanks. She fully commits to Mikazuki Villa as her new home.[44]

- In the following days, Sana reveals to the team that she overheard the Wings of the Magius discussing Nemu Hiiragi, one of the Magius and describing her as dangerous and useful. The team consolidates its understanding of the Wings' structure: three Magius leaders, with Mifuyu acting as a relay to other Magical Girls and Iroha is left to ponder Ai's statement that it knew Ui "as an Uwasa."[44]
- After the battle with Alina Gray and the Rumor of the Anonymous AI, Homura and Madoka decide to leave for Kamihama to search for the missing Mami. Kyubey approaches Homura with a request: he wants her to take him to Kamihama, as Incubators cannot enter alone, and offers all his gathered information in exchange. Knowing what she does about him, Homura refuses.[49]
- A few days later, Homura, Madoka, and Sayaka return to Kamihama to continue their search. They are almost immediately assaulted by the Witch Candy, which they defeat easily at first before it transforms into its true form and attacks again. When Homura attempts to stop time to save her friends, she finds the Witch is unaffected and her Soul Gem begins filling with impurities. As she succumbs, her Doppel awakens - manifesting after she uses a broken Incubator's body for knowledge and power - and unleashes its fury on the Witch. Exhausted but alive, Homura finds her Soul Gem purified. Together they finish the Witch, and Madoka suggests they visit the Coordinator Iroha told her about. Determined to become stronger, Homura agrees.[49]
Iroha's Side Story

Little Bird's Star
- Kuroe and other Black Feathers are in Fendt Hope, commiserating about their weakness. A White Feather had to bail them out after they were followed by a Witch while delivering a parcel from Mitama's shop. They discuss Yachiyo Nanami, a veteran Magical Girl who destroys Uwasas.[1]
- Mifuyu and Nemu emerge from a room arguing. Nemu dismisses Mifuyu and approaches the Black Feathers with a request. She asks them to investigate the "Uwasa of the Jealous Coward," also called the "Green-Eyed Coward." Kuroe hesitates but agrees when Nemu insists she has the aptitude.[1]
- The group investigates an area with many students but cannot find the Uwasa. The other Black Feathers leave for personal commitments. Kuroe stays, feeling she has nothing to return to. The Uwasa manifests when Kuroe expresses envy toward the other girls' normal lives. Two Black Feathers are knocked unconscious. Nemu is satisfied with the results and tasks Kuroe with investigating more Uwasas starting tomorrow. Kuroe protests but Nemu leaves before she can refuse.[1]

- The Amane twins, Tsukasa and Tsukuyo, meet Kuroe at Fendt Hope and they begin investigating Uwasas in Sakae Ward but find nothing. They move to Hokuyo Ward. Kuroe notices a missing cat poster.[1]
- They sense Yachiyo's group nearby and flee. Yachiyo and Iroha corner Kuroe. The twins escape. Yachiyo interrogates Kuroe. An Uwasa resembling Kuroe appears and attacks, then disappears. Yachiyo accuses Kuroe of controlling it. Kuroe insists she had no knowledge of it.[1]
- Yachiyo decides to take Kuroe camping to monitor her. At the campground, the Amane twins briefly contact Kuroe and say they will consult Nemu, so Kuroe resolves to wait.[1]
- Kuroe helps Iroha gather firewood. Iroha is scared by a caterpillar and Kuroe removes it. Kuroe introduces herself by name. She helps the group set up their tent and prepare lunch, using skills learned from Wings of Magius training. She reminds herself not to get drawn into their warm atmosphere.[1]
- Yachiyo mentions a waterfall power spot. Kuroe offers to get water. Iroha accompanies her. They get lost. A woman helps Kuroe find the waterfall and gives her an empty bottle. The woman explains the place is her personal power spot for resetting her mind. Kuroe wishes she had strength to face the future. The Uwasa appears and attacks the woman. Iroha arrives and finds the woman unconscious. Kuroe begs Iroha for help.[1]
- Kuroe carries the unconscious woman back to the campsite. The Amane twins inform her that Nemu says she is possessed by the Uwasa and should stay with Yachiyo's group. Yachiyo warns that if more casualties occur, she will destroy the Uwasa. Iroha suggests keeping Kuroe for observation.[1]
- The group participates in a stamp rally and Iroha and Kuroe pair up. They discover they are both from Takarazaki. Iroha explains she moved to Kamihama to find her missing sister. Suddenly, a Witch appears and Kuroe and Iroha fight it together. Kuroe acts as a decoy while Iroha defeats the Witch. Kuroe feels inadequate compared to Iroha's courage.[1]
- Kuroe asks for time alone and she reflects on her fears and envy. The Uwasa appears again, resembling Kuroe. The group fights it and Iroha urges Kuroe to destroy the Uwasa. Kuroe admits she is afraid she cannot be herself, so she and Iroha destroy the Uwasa together.[1]
- The Amane twins inform Kuroe they must report the Uwasa's destruction, yet Kuroe does not regret it. Iroha asks to talk with Kuroe and Yachiyo offers them tea. Kuroe admits she feels safe with the Wings of Magius because they represent hope for her. Iroha accepts this and Kuroe tells Iroha she wants to be like her someday. They part ways.[1]
- Kuroe finds the missing cat and returns it to its owner, who is overjoyed. Kuroe realizes she saved someone.[1]
- Kuroe reports to Nemu and Mifuyu. Nemu reveals the Uwasa summons itself based on dissatisfaction and envy. Nemu admits she expected Yachiyo's group to handle an accident with the Uwasa. However, Nemu is satisfied that she now has more research on fusing Uwasa with Magical Girls, however Mifuyu warns Nemu not to experiment on the Feathers. Kuroe realizes that even the Magius are imperfect and she reflects on her long day. She resolves to do her best, one step at a time, and hopes to see Iroha again.[1]
Wednesday, the 7th
- Iroha, Tsuruno, Felicia and Sana decide to buy matching coasters as a gift for Yachiyo, to show their appreciation, and after some searching, they find a suitable set.[50]
Thursday, the 8th
- The following day, the plan to present the gift is interrupted when Mifuyu Azusa arrives at the villa before Yachiyo returns home. The girls' plan was for Iroha to wait inside while the others came from outside to surprise Yachiyo. Mifuyu prepares tea and reveals one of the two mugs on the top shelf, which Yachiyo forbade Iroha from using, belongs to her. Mifuyu invites Iroha to a lecture hosted by the Wings of the Magius to explain their goal of "freeing" Magical Girls. The lecture is scheduled for two days later at the Memory Museum and Iroha agrees to investigate the Rumor about the museum first.[50]
- Yachiyo returns home and is visibly distressed to find Mifuyu there. Mifuyu leaves, asking Iroha to inform the others about the lecture. Before finally leaving, Mifuyu returns to speak to Yachiyo privately. She references a "promise" they made a year ago, and accuses Yachiyo of returning to her old ways. Yachiyo insists her relationship with Iroha and the others is "just cooperating." Yachiyo retreats to her room without receiving the coasters. That night, Yachiyo reflects on her past, resolving to return to the person she once was.[50]
Friday, the 9th
- The day before the lecture, Iroha is unable to give Yachiyo the coasters due to Yachiyo's low spirits. Iroha discusses her plan to attend the Wings of the Magius lecture with Madoka Kaname via text. Iroha then attempts to investigate the Rumor of the Memory Museum. Yachiyo claims no knowledge of it and leaves for school. Iroha and Momoko ask Mitama, who refuses to share information to maintain her neutrality. After the visit, Mitama has a separate conversation with Momoko about Momoko's own secret, advising her to tell her friends the truth.[50]
- Kaede and Rena help Iroha by summoning the creature that recites the Rumor of the Memory Museum, which allows people to view researched memories. Tsuruno's father provides the location of the similar-sounding "Kamihama Memorial Museum." That evening, Yachiyo refuses to join the investigation, reiterating that her relationship with the others is strictly professional, which saddens Tsuruno.[50]
Saturday, the 10th
- The day of the lecture, Yachiyo again refuses to go to the museum and Iroha, Tsuruno, Felicia, and Sana go to the Kamihama Memorial Museum without her. There, they are greeted by Touka Satomi, who reveals herself as one of the three Magius.[50]
- Concurrently at Mikazuki, Yachiyo, haunted by memories of past friends, decides she must investigate the Memory Museum herself.[50]

- Touka Satomi gives them a lecture titled "The Truth Behind Magical Girls." She presents three key items through illustrative stories:
- Item 1: Soul Gems. A story reveals that a Soul Gem is a Magical Girl's actual soul. Using magic consumes this life force, and if the gem shatters, the Magical Girl dies. Touka uses an analogy of an internal vs. external battery to explain Soul Gems and Grief Seeds.[50]
- Item 2: Witches. A second story demonstrates that when a Magical Girl's Soul Gem becomes fully corrupted, she transforms into a Witch. This revelation traumatizes Felicia, who realizes the Witches she has been killing were once Magical Girls and that she herself is destined to become one.[50]
- Item 3: Doppels. A third story explains that in Kamihama City, a fully corrupted Soul Gem can manifest a "Doppel" instead of a Witch. The Wings of the Magius present this as the key to "freeing" Magical Girls from their fate.[50]
- To prove their claims, Touka and Mifuyu Azusa activate the Memory Museum's Rumor. Mifuyu presents a book containing her own memories, inviting the group to witness the truth of the lecture firsthand.[50]
- Yachiyo arrives at the museum and confronts Touka. She is shown into the memory dimension where Iroha and the others are and Mifuyu activates the Rumor, forcing the group to relive her memories. The memories depict Yachiyo's former team, Mikazuki Villa:
- The first memory shows Kanae Yukino sacrificing herself to reveal a Witch's weakness. Her uninjured body is found next to her shattered Soul Gem, proving the Soul Gem is the Magical Girl's life.[50]
- The second memory shows Mel Anna using too much magic to protect Yachiyo. With no Grief Seed to purify her fully corrupted Soul Gem, Mel transforms into a Witch before the team's eyes, confirming Magical Girls become Witches.[50]
- The third memory shows Mifuyu's despair six months after Mel's death, causing her Soul Gem to corrupt fully. Instead of becoming a Witch, she manifests a Doppel. Touka then appears and recruits her into the Wings of the Magius.[50]
- Tsuruno is consumed by guilt over Mel's death, believing her absence that day was the cause. Felicia is horrified, realizing the Witches she killed were Magical Girls and Sana is terrified but feels powerless to change the system. Touka and Mifuyu use this emotional vulnerability to press their recruitment offers to each girl, promising a world where these tragedies are impossible and even suggesting Sana could be freed from her wish of invisibility.[50]
- Iroha and Yachiyo reject the offer to join and Yachiyo compares the Magius' methods to Kyubey's, accusing them of exploiting weaknesses. Yachiyo then announces she is disbanding their team, which Iroha protests, but Yachiyo insists.[50]
- Touka reveals that Tsuruno, Felicia, and Sana have been brainwashed and now serve the Wings of the Magius. Alina Gray arrives and traps Iroha and Yachiyo within her Labyrinth and leaves them to face a Witch. As they fight the Witch, Yachiyo reiterates her decision to disband the team and work alone. She reveals her wish was "I want to survive," and explains that she interprets this as a curse: the power to survive by sacrificing her teammates, based on the last words of her former comrades, Kanae and Mel, who both died while she lived. Yachiyo believes that to protect Iroha, she must sever their partnership.[50]
- Iroha rejects Yachiyo's conclusion. She declares she will defeat the Uwasa alone to prove Yachiyo's "curse" is not real and that she can protect Yachiyo. Iroha states she is angry that Yachiyo made this decision for everyone and vows to rescue their brainwashed friends. She defeats the Witch and rejects Yachiyo's belief in a cursed wish and declares herself the new leader to nullify its perceived effect. Yachiyo relents and agrees to work with Iroha to save their friends.[50]
- At the same time, Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka, having detected Mami's magic while investigating Kamihama, investigate the closed Kamihama Recording Museum. They are attacked by the Wings of the Magius. While Madoka and Homura hold them off, Sayaka proceeds and witnesses Mami, transformed into "Holy Mami," attacking Iroha and Yachiyo. It is here that Sayaka learns the horrific truth that Magical Girls become Witches.[51]
- Mami, now a brainwashed member of the Wings of the Magius, confronts them. As Iroha and Yachiyo are too injured to fight, Sayaka Miki arrives and intervenes. Sayaka uses a bomb from Homura to create a diversion, allowing the three to escape.[50]
- After their escape, Sayaka gives Iroha a Grief Seed. Iroha explains the truth about Witches and the Wings of the Magius to Sayaka, who is horrified. Sayaka leaves to process this information and Iroha and Yachiyo walk home in silence to reflect.[50]
- After fleeing the museum, Sayaka reunites with Madoka and Homura, defeats their pursuers in a distraught state, and explains what happened to Mami to them, as well as the truth about becoming Witches. The group returns to Mitakihara in silence but Madoka resolves to find a way to avoid their fate and to save Mami. Sayaka agrees to fight back as well and later decides to meet with Kyoko Sakura.[51]
- Later, at Mikazuki Villa, Iroha and Yachiyo reaffirm their commitment to save their friends and Momoko arrives, having told the secret of Magical Girls to Rena and Kaede. Yachiyo also apologizes for her actions and explains her fears about her wish. Momoko forgives her and reaffirms their friendship. Iroha then receives a text from Madoka, who promises to come to Kamihama to help.[50]
- In Mitakihara, Sayaka meets Kyoko and reveals the truth about Witches. Kyoko deduces this is what the Wings of the Magius meant by "saving" Magical Girls. Kyoko declares she will find a way to avoid becoming a Witch and confront the Wings of the Magius alone, rejecting Sayaka's offer of help. Despite Sayaka's protests, Kyoko leaves to operate solo.[51]
- Likely during this time, Yachiyo pulls out a box containing what her former friends Kanae Yukino and Mel Anna left behind. She has never opened it since filling it and spends the entire day staring at it, unable to lift the lid. When Iroha arrives and asks about it, Yachiyo explains and admits she is trying to work through her feelings. Iroha offers to help, but Yachiyo deflects, reminding her they were supposed to visit Mitama.[52]
- The girls visit Mitama Yakumo and present Grief Seeds as payment for adjustment. Mitama is surprised by the offering and promises to do her best, but she expresses concern about Yachiyo's emotional state. She suggests Yachiyo clear up her issues with the box before moving forward and offers to adjust both girls at once as a special exception.[52]
- As Mitama works on her, Yachiyo finds herself in a gray room confronted by a shadowy doppelganger. The shadow accuses her of being afraid of the future and clinging to the past. When Yachiyo refuses to give in to despair, the shadow transforms into her doppel, but she stands firm, accepting her fear while choosing to move forward. Iroha appears beside her, and together they bid farewell to visions of Kanae and Mel.[52]
- Yachiyo awakens and realizes Mitama adjusted them together intentionally, trusting Iroha could help her if needed. She thanks Mitama for looking out for her.[52]
- Back at her house, Yachiyo finally opens the box with Iroha beside her. Inside, Kanae left a book of lyrics about becoming a circle with others, and Mel left fortune telling impressions predicting a future where many magical girls would gather in Kamihama. Yachiyo cries as she reads their words. Iroha suggests they head toward that gentle future together. Yachiyo agrees but says first they need to get back their own three points: Tsuruno, Felicia, and Sana.[52]
- Iroha resolves to find her lost friends and mentally tells Ui to wait a bit longer. Iroha and Yachiyo finish cleaning their house. Iroha resolves to give the coasters she and the others bought for Yachiyo when everyone is reunited. Iroha says she sent a message to Madoka in Mitakihara City, but hasn't gotten a response.[53]
- Immediately after Tsuruno, Felicia, and Sana are taken, Mifuyu reports to Touka and Alina that the brainwashing on the three is holding, so Touka selects Tsuruno for a mission, which Alina states will involve "mass murder."[53]
- Later in her room, Iroha thinks back to when she celebrated Christmas with her friends, but resolves to keep going with her mission.[53]
Sunday, the 11th
- The next day, Iroha and Yachiyo investigate the Kamihama Rumor Files at Mikazuki Villa. Iroha recognizes some of the Rumors. They meet with Momoko, who mentions Tsuruno's perfect school attendance record is now broken and that a new amusement park is also opening.[53]
- Iroha and Yachiyo visit Tsuruno's family restaurant and her father reveals Tsuruno and Felicia visited once. Tsuruno told him she found a place where she feels safe and would not return and he notes her expression was blank, similar to how she looked a year ago after Mel's death. Afterwards, a White Feather ambushes Iroha and Yachiyo, stating they will be used for a mission like Tsuruno, and the two fight off the attacker.[53]
Monday, the 12th
- The next day, Iroha and Yachiyo devise a plan to destroy Rumors across Kamihama to lure out the Wings of the Magius and locate their base. They share this plan with Momoko, who offers to help by getting Grief Seeds for them while they hunt. Momoko then goes to check on Kaede, who is hiding in her room. She hugs Kaede and tells her she and Rena will always be there to support her.[53]
- Iroha and Yachiyo systematically hunt Rumors like the "Historical Battle Marker," the "Castle Town Illusion," the "Headless Biker Gang," the "Puzzle Tiles Lock," and the "Fashion Monster." They also interrogate captured Feathers, but none reveal information about Tsuruno, Felicia, or Sana's location.[53]
- Concurrently, Momoko investigates a rapidly spreading rumor about a new amusement park. She notes it originated in the east and spread west through Sakae, Mizuna, and Shinsei Wards.[53]
- Later that day, Iroha and Yachiyo analyze the Kamihama Rumor Files, marking all known Rumor locations on a map. They identify a pattern: Rumors cluster more densely in Shinsei Ward, with a notable concentration around Satomi Medical Center, the hospital where Ui was supposedly treated.[53]
- They travel to the hospital area and are ambushed by Feathers. Felicia and Sana, who had broken free of the brainwashing, arrive and help fight off the attackers. The four Magical Girls reunite and Felicia and Sana reveal they pretended to be brainwashed to gather information. Momoko confirms the amusement park rumor spread from east to west and will open at dawn in two days.[53]
- Felicia and Sana explain to Yachiyo and Iroha that Mifuyu used her illusion magic to break their brainwashing. Mifuyu revealed the Magius are protecting and strengthening Witches for their liberation plan and are planning to use the brainwashed Magical Girls to cross a dangerous line. Mifuyu attempted to free Tsuruno but failed, as Tsuruno's reason for being brainwashed was different. Mifuyu then helped Felicia and Sana escape but chose to remain behind, stating they would be enemies next time they meet.[53]
- Momoko arrives and shares her investigation into a new Rumor about an amusement park opening at dawn in two days. She confirms it spread from the east, and the group overlays the Rumor locations on a map and identifies a pattern suggesting a source or "eye of the storm" in the eastern wards.[53]

- Yachiyo decides to contact Kanagi Izumi, the powerful Magical Girl who controls the eastern Daito and Kosho Wards and is a former rival of hers. Kanagi agrees to an alliance, and during their call, Tsukasa of the Wings of the Magius arrives at Kanagi's location.[53]
Tuesday, the 13th
- The morning, Felicia and Sana try to accompany Iroha and Yachiyo but are told to rest due to their collapse the previous night. Iroha and Yachiyo leave them behind. Meanwhile in Kosho Ward, Iroha, Yachiyo, Momoko, and Kanagi meet and Kanagi agrees to ally with them against the Wings of the Magius. They combine their Rumor data on a map, which reveals a circular pattern with a vacant center in Kosho Ward and Kanagi identifies the old railway yard as the likely location of the Wings' base.[53]
- After learning the truth about Witches, Madoka questions Kyubey about a way to avoid becoming a Witch. Kyubey states he knows of no method and reveals he cannot enter Kamihama City himself. He proposes an alliance to investigate the Wings of the Magius but Madoka refuses to promise cooperation. She resolves to return to Kamihama with her friends, but then a Witch from Kamihama appears in Mitakihara.[54]
- Madoka, Sayaka, and Homura defeat the Kamihama Witch. They share Grief Seeds and note the alarming appearance of foreign Witches in their city. The trio resolves to go to Kamihama the next day to find answers.[54]
- Around this time, Kyoko successfully infiltrates the Wings of the Magius. She is assigned to a team tasked with dealing with a group that erases Rumors, which she suspects is Iroha's team.[54]
- Iroha's group travels to the railway yard but finds it empty. They are ambushed by Tsukuyo and Tsukasa Amane, who summon Witches and during the battle, Kanagi uses her unique power to read Iroha's true intentions and confirms her sincerity. Kanagi then joins the fight and helps defeat the Amane sisters and their Black Feathers.[53]
- Kanagi uses her power on the defeated Amane sisters to read their minds and she learns that Tsuruno is still completely brainwashed and has become part of an Uwasa to protect it. She also learns Tsuruno's location is at the Ferris Wheel Field in Daito Ward and the group prepares to move out immediately.[53]
- The team arrives in Daito Ward, where Yachiyo and Iroha plan to enter the "amusement park" Rumor to save Tsuruno, while Felicia, Sana, Momoko, and Kanagi hold off the Wings of the Magius. The group locates the Rumor's entrance and Kanagi and Momoko stay behind to fight the Feathers.[53]
- Iroha and Yachiyo proceed and confront Alina, Touka, and Mifuyu, where Alina declares her intent to erase them. During the battle, Mifuyu secretly tells Yachiyo that destroying the main Uwasa will kill Tsuruno, and that they must instead tear the Uwasa from her by connecting with her heart. Mifuyu also reveals Tsuruno is in a Ferris wheel car.[53]

- Iroha and Yachiyo enter the Rumor, "Chelation Land," which induces a hazy, thoughtless state. They find Tsuruno, who has fully merged with the Uwasa and acts as the park's host. Tsuruno tries to force them to relax and stay, serving them hotpot in mugs reminiscent of Mikazuki Villa, but they refuse and attempt to reason with Tsuruno, and she attacks them. Following Mifuyu's advice, they combine their magic to tear the Uwasa from Tsuruno in one powerful strike.[53]

- After Tsuruno is freed from the Uwasa, Yachiyo realizes that Tsuruno's cheerful demeanor was a facade to hide her pain and guilt over past events, including the death of Mel. The team defeats the main Uwasa of Chelation Land and the Magius, Touka, Nemu Hiiragi, and Alina, confront the group. Nemu reveals she is the "Creator" of all the Rumors in Kamihama and the Magius explain their goal: to use the energy generated by Rumors and Witches to hatch "Embryo Eve," a being that will liberate all Magical Girls worldwide from the fate of becoming Witches. They state the phenomenon requires the presence of all three Magius and a massive energy source, for which they have used the people of Kamihama and the teams part ways in opposition.[53]
Wednesday, the 14th

- The next day, at Mikazuki Villa, the team summarizes the Magius' plan and that Kamihama is an incubator for Embryo Eve. They resolve to stop the Magius due to the plan's high human cost and the group gives Yachiyo the set of sakura blossom-themed coasters as a symbol of their team unity.[53]
- In Mitakihara, Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka are separately attacked by multiple Kamihama Witches in Mitakihara before reuniting. They realize the Witch incursion is a coordinated attack meant to prevent them from leaving Mitakihara. Their magic and Grief Seed reserves are heavily depleted in the constant battles.[54]
- During the ongoing Witch attacks, the trio is overwhelmed by a powerful Witch and is forced to retreat. Sayaka breaks down, admitting her terror of becoming a Witch and Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka share their fears and resolve to face the threat together. They are observed by Feathers of the Wings of the Magius, who imply the attack is part of their plan.[54]
- In Fendt Hope, Kyoko, having gained the trust of her unit, is taken on a tour of the Wings of the Magius headquarters by her White Feather superior.[54]
- Later that day, the three defeat the Feathers sent to observe them, and after interrogating them, they receive a message from Iroha about how to save Mami. Holy Mami arrives to Mitakihara and reveals she brought the Witches to Mitakihara to keep the three of them "safe," and insists the Magius will save them. Alina Gray also appears and traps Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka in a Barrier, which Mami seals with her ribbons.[54]
- After her infiltration, Kyoko is taken to Hotel Fenthope by Mifuyu Azusa. She confronts Holy Mami, accusing her of not being the real Mami Tomoe. Touka Satomi and Nemu Hiiragi arrive and reinforce the Rumor brainwashing on Mami. Mifuyu secretly escorts Kyoko away and reveals the Magius' plans: they are using a mysterious entity called "Eve" to liberate Magical Girls and are deliberately bringing Walpurgisnacht to Kamihama to hatch it. Horrified, Kyoko rejects the Magius and is led out of the city by Mifuyu.[55]
- Kyoko arrives in Mitakihara and frees Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka from Alina's Barrier. She explains the Magius' plan to bring Walpurgisnacht to Kamihama and Homura urges the group to stay in Mitakihara for safety. Kyoko departs alone, later resolving to return and crush the Magius.[55]
- That night, Iroha has a sudden memory flashback to the hospital, triggered by the word "sakura." She remembers a story she, Ui, Touka, and Nemu created about the "Eternal Sakura." She deduces this Rumor is real and located at the hospital, and that all the Rumors were created there.[53]
- Concurrently, Touka and Nemu observe that Embryo Eve has reached a critical state and they confirm that a legendary, cross-dimensional event they foresaw: the arrival of Walpurgisnacht, will provide the final, massive energy surge needed to hatch Eve.[53]
- Yachiyo calls a meeting with the Mikazuki Villa household, Tsuruno, and the Momoko trio to share her concern that rumors persist even after they defeat the Uwasa themselves. The group splits up to investigate whether the original Uwasa have truly vanished or transformed into something new.[56]
- Momoko, Kaede, and Rena investigate the Breakup Staircase and find only scattered internet gossip remains. During their search, lingering tensions surface over Rena's painful memories of when Kaede was kidnapped by that Uwasa, but the trio ultimately reconciles and continues working together.[56]
- Iroha, Yachiyo, and Tsuruno visit Mizuna Shrine, where the Séance Shrine Uwasa has transformed into a popular spot for relationship prayers with new mascots. They encounter a grieving girl who comes daily to pray for her deceased friend, and Yachiyo is reminded of her own departed companions Kanae and Mel.[56]
- Iroha and Felicia track down the man behind the revived Misery Water rumor, who confesses he was scammed into buying the water and cannot bring himself to deceive others. Felicia helps him find honest work, and the rumors die out.[56]
- Sana investigates an online forum where troubled users make veiled threats, but the rumor fades without incident. Tsuruno and Iroha check Chelation Land, where Tsuruno reflects on her past brainwashing and muses about whether some Uwasa exist independently of the Magius.[56]
- The groups reconvene and report that all investigated rumors have left minimal traces. Yachiyo concludes their investigation of the Uwasa is complete, and only the Wings of Magius themselves remain to be confronted.[56]
Voices from Beyond, Part 1
It is unclear whether this event takes place in an actual sort of afterlife, or whether this is a dream Yachiyo has.
- In the afterlife, Mel Anna meets Kanae Yukino, another Magical Girl ghost who also died fighting a Witch. Mel is thrilled to discover they were both on a team with Yachiyo Nanami and calls Kanae her senpai. Kanae takes Mel to a ghost cafe where deceased Magical Girls gather, explaining they cannot interact with the living world except through psychics.[57]
- As they wander Kamihama, Mel notices Witch numbers rising dramatically and worries about Yachiyo. They follow Yachiyo and are relieved to find she has new companions in Iroha Tamaki and others, though they remain concerned about their former teammate Mifuyu's absence.[57]
- Over the following days, they watch helplessly as Yachiyo battles the Wings of Magius and eventually enters the Memory Museum, where she relives the trauma of losing Mel and Kanae. When Yachiyo dissolves her team afterward, convinced her magic causes others to die for her, the ghosts desperately try to reach her. Kanae notices Yachiyo kept their mementos: Mel's fortune log and Kanae's notebook. They focus their thoughts on these items, and that night, Yachiyo discovers their messages—Kanae's lyrics about forming a circle and Mel's fortune predicting the current events. Grateful, she resolves to move forward. Their successful contact gets their ghost licenses suspended, and they watch Yachiyo's dream of their encounter before fading.[57]
Thursday, the 15th
- The Wings of the Magius initiate a city-wide offensive, unleashing powerful Witches and sending brainwashed Black and White Feathers to indiscriminately attack other Magical Girls. Mami delivers a declaration of war to Iroha and Yachiyo, stating they will no longer delay their plan for "freedom."[58]
- The Magical Girls of Kamihama form a coordinated response and Yachiyo's team devises a strategy: first, eliminate the unleashed Witches; second, protect other Magical Girls and direct them to Mitama's shop as a safe haven; third, deal with the rampaging Feathers.[58]
- Iroha, recalling the "Rumor of the Eternal Sakura" in Hokuyo Ward, theorizes it could be the location of the Magius' hidden base. Yachiyo approves Iroha and Sana to investigate this lead separately.[58]
- Over the next several hours, the teams execute the plan. Yachiyo rescues Ren from a Black Feather and escorts her to Mitama's shop. Kaede Afinds Konomi protecting an injured Kako; together they defeat a Witch and get Kako to safety. Rena aids Asuka and Sasara, later teaming with Ria and Manaka to defeat a Witch. Momoko and Aimi rescue Kokoro and Masara from Feathers. Tsuruno works with Hinano to eliminate a Witch and warns her about the Feathers. Felicia fights alongside Akira and Nanaka's group, eventually reuniting with Tsuruno. Kanagi protects Himika from Feathers and sends her to Mitama's. Yachiyo and Kanagi also rescue Riko and Ayaka from Feather attacks and track the enemy to a heliport. Yachiyo, Kanagi, Momoko's team, and Tsuruno's team successfully clear the city of the powerful Witches and they rescue and guide numerous Magical Girls to Mitama's shop. Momoko confronts Mitama, challenging her to abandon her neutral stance and Mitama agrees to allow her shop to be used as a headquarters and to share her knowledge about the Magius' plans.[58]
- Mitama reveals the truth that Magical Girls are destined to become Witches, and that the Magius aim to use the energy from Embryo Eve to spread the Doppel phenomenon worldwide, preventing this fate. However, their methods involve sacrificing the citizens of Kamihama and other Magical Girls to gather this energy, so the Magical Girls at the shelter decide to join the fight against the Magius.[58]
- Meanwhile, in Chuo Ward, Yachiyo and Kanagi are ambushed by Mami and a horde of brainwashed Feathers at the Kamihama Central Tower heliport. The battle is difficult due to the Feathers' numbers and Mami's enhanced power from the Uwasa. Kanagi reads Mami's mind and finds her personality has been completely overwritten by the Uwasa's influence, leaving only her devotion to the Magius' plan.[58]
- Tsuruno and Felicia then arrive as reinforcements and during the fight, a Black Feather loses her "Receiver Pendant." Kanagi reads this Feather's mind, uncovering that the Feathers' berserk state is caused by the "Rumor of the Receiver Pendant," which numbs their emotions and forces them to obey the Magius' orders. The memory also reveals the three Magius orchestrating the attack to harvest emotional energy from the chaos, believing it will bring their utopia closer. The Feather who lost her pendant then begins to regain her senses.[58]
- Yachiyo's team battles the brainwashed Mami and the Wings of the Magius. With the help of Momoko's team and Kanagi's ability to read the enemy's weakness, they remove the Uwasa from Mami, freeing her from its control. Mami collapses from exhaustion.[58]
- Meanwhile, Homura pleads with Madoka and Sayaka not to go to Kamihama, fearing for their lives against Walpurgisnacht. After initial hesitation, Madoka and Sayaka resolve to go and Homura agrees to accompany them. The trio leaves for Kamihama but cannot contact Iroha Tamaki.[55]
- Upon arriving in Kamihama, the three are attacked by brainwashed Black Feathers in Sakae Ward, but the Feathers suddenly regain their senses and flee. The trio pursues them into Central Ward and meets Kanoko Yayoi, Karin Misono, and Natsuki Utsuho. They learn that other Magical Girls are gathering at Mitama Yakumo's office and Karin reveals she saw Nanaka Tokiwa carrying an unconscious Mami there. The group goes to Mitama's and finds Mami, who has been freed from the Magius' control and awakens.[55]
- The Wings of the Magius then execute their plan: they cause a city-wide blackout and seize control of Kamihama's radio waves and power grid. They use Nemu's power to project a false utopia over the city, attracting Witches, and Touka's power to send a signal that summons the legendary Witch, Walpurgisnacht. Their goal is to use the chaos and emotional energy to hatch "Eve."[58]
- Iroha and Sana infiltrate the "Rumor of the Eternal Sakura" Labyrinth, initially having their presence hidden due to Sana's unique magic. There, Iroha confronts Touka and Nemu, using the Uwasa itself as proof that her memories of their shared past with Ui are real. Despite this, Touka and Nemu don't believe her and refuse to halt their plans. Alina arrives, captures Iroha, and takes her to their main base, Hotel Fendt Hope. Afterwards, Sana escapes and informs Yachiyo's arriving team of Iroha's capture.[58]
- At Mitama's shop, Mitama reveals she previously supplied the Wings with Grief Seeds in exchange for neutrality but has now chosen to side with Yachiyo's team against them. Mami herself awakens, now having reconciled with her inner turmoil. Now, Yachiyo's team, reinforced by Momoko's team and Mami, prepares to assault Hotel Fendt Hope to rescue Iroha and stop the Magius before Walpurgisnacht arrives.[58]
- Mami, freed from the Uwasa's influence, resolves to expose the Magius' true plans to the Feathers and Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka decide to support her instead of joining Iroha's group. Nanaka and her team escort them to the heliport and during the journey, Mami explains to Nanaka that the Feathers' loyalty was placed not in the Magius themselves, but in Mifuyu Azusa.[59]
- At the heliport, Mami arrives where the exhausted Feathers and Kamihama Magical Girls are at a stalemate. She reveals the Magius' plan to sacrifice hundreds of civilians, including the Feathers' own friends and family, to Walpurgisnacht. She also details their previous use of the Chelation Land Rumor for a similar purpose and the Feathers are shocked and dismayed. Some even accuse Mami of hypocrisy, which she does not deny.[59]
- The Feathers split into two factions: one that still desires liberation at any cost and another that vows to protect Kamihama. A fight breaks out between them and Madoka and the others defend Mami, declaring their unwavering friendship. Moved, Mami asks the Feathers if they have anyone they trust unconditionally, as she now does, and the Feathers state they trust Mifuyu and demand to hear the truth from her directly.[59]
- Mami entrusts the Feathers to Nanaka's team, while she, Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka then proceed to Hotel Fendthope to aid Iroha. On the way, Mami thanks her friends and asks them to rely on her as an equal ally and friend, not as a veteran. They arrive at the Rumor of the Eternal Sakura, where Mitama is guarding the entrance. She confirms she is aware of Mami's past struggles and allows the group to pass.[59]
Friday, the 16th
- At Hotel Fendt Hope, Sana infiltrates the hotel to find Iroha and she overhears Feathers discussing Iroha's location and heads there. Iroha is held in a cell and, with her Soul Gem confiscated, she reflects on her memories of Ui, Touka, and Nemu and resolves to stop the Magius' plan.[47]
- The Magius discuss their plans and Alina demands Iroha's Soul Gem and body be brought to her. A weather report at the same time indicates the approach of Walpurgisnacht.[47]
- Sana locates Iroha's cell, and she breaks Iroha out, but the act of breaking the cell door triggers an Uwasa, as the entire building is part of a Rumor. Sana defeats the Uwasa and as they flee, they are ambushed by Black Feathers. Kyoko Sakura, who was undergoing an orientation with the Feathers but decided against joining them, intervenes and helps defeat the attackers as well.[47]
- Iroha explains the Magius' goal is to summon Walpurgisnacht, and Kyoko reveals the Magius also plan to use Iroha, Mifuyu, and the Amane sisters as nourishment for "Eve," the core of the system. Suddenly, Iroha collapses and stops breathing due to the distance from her Soul Gem. A Black Feather who pretended to be unconscious seizes Iroha's body and escapes with it, and Sana and Kyoko give chase.[47]
- Yachiyo's team enters the Hotel Fendt Hope through the Eternal Sakura Labyrinth and they split into two teams: Yachiyo's group heads to the top floor to rescue Mifuyu and the Amane sisters, while Momoko's group searches for Iroha.[47]
- Yachiyo's team finds Mifuyu, Tsukuyo, and Tsukasa unconscious, their bodies separated from their Soul Gems. They quickly recover the Soul Gems, reviving the three, and Mifuyu confirms the Magius summoned Walpurgisnacht to provide energy to hatch Eve. Mifuyu and the Amane sisters renounce the Magius and join Yachiyo's team.[47]
- Meanwhile, Iroha is transported by a Black Feather who reveals her motivation: her younger sister turned into a Witch, and she supports the Magius to prevent others from suffering the same fate. Momoko's team intercepts them and rescues Iroha.[47]
- Kyoko and Sana fight their way through the hotel and reunite with the main group. Momoko's team recovers a bag containing Iroha's, Mifuyu's, and the Amane sisters' Soul Gems. A group of Feathers from the East confronts them but is persuaded by Kanagi to stand down, and they retreat.[47]
- With the teams reunited, the full coalition of Iroha, Yachiyo, Tsuruno, Felicia, Sana, Kanagi, Momoko, Rena, Kaede, Mifuyu, Tsukuyo, Tsukasa, and Kyoko regroups. They possess all the stolen Soul Gems and are united in their goal to stop the Magius and confront Walpurgisnacht.[47]
- The team's path to the underground chapel is blocked and Mifuyu determines the magical building, a Rumor crafted by Nemu Hiiragi, has been reconfigured. Mifuyu, Tsukuyo, and Tsukasa attempt to break the blockade, but a powerful magical wind erupts, separating the group. Mifuyu, the Amane sisters, Momoko, Rena, Kaede, and Kyoko are blown outside.[47]
- Yachiyo, Iroha, Sana, Felicia, Tsuruno, and Kanagi remain inside and they defeat an Uwasa that attacks them. Mifuyu communicates from outside that they are locked out, and she devises a new plan: her group will gather other Kamihama Magical Girls to attack and destroy the Uwasa of Hotel Fendt Hope itself, which will collapse the building. She instructs Yachiyo's group to hurry to the underground chapel for safety before the attack.[47]
- Mifuyu's group fights off Witches released by Alina Gray as a defense measure. Mami, Madoka, Homura, and Sayaka also arrive and assist them. After the battle, Mami convinces Mifuyu to address all the Feathers of the Wings of the Magius, and using the Amane sisters' sound magic, Mifuyu broadcasts a telepathic message across Kamihama, revealing the Magius' plan to sacrifice civilians and summon Walpurgisnacht. She urges the Feathers to lay down their arms and prepare to fight the legendary Witch. Many Feathers also heed her call and defect.[47]
- Mami then uses her magic to create a small opening in the building's barrier and enters Hotel Fendt Hope alone to rejoin Yachiyo's team, and Kyoko is noted to be absent. Yachiyo's team searches for the entrance to the underground chapel and Mami reveals she concealed the entrance with her magic. She severs the ribbon hiding the path, officially breaking her ties with the Wings of the Magius and Mami then leaves to assist with the attack on the Uwasa of Fendt Hope outside. Kyoko meets Mami along the way and gives her a Grief Seed before they both exit the building.[47]
- The team then encounters false copies of Touka, Nemu, and Alina from the Mirror Witch's barrier; they realize the fakes speak differently and defeat them before continuing.[47]
- Outside Fendt Hope, Mifuyu's group, now joined by Mami, Kyoko, and the Feathers who defected, attacks the Uwasa of Fendt Hope. Despite a coordinated assault, the Uwasa proves extremely resilient and withstands their combined power. The battle continues as the city-wide weather disaster escalates.[47]

- Yachiyo's team proceeds down a long staircase into a deep, dark underground area filled with strong magical impurities. Along the way, they are confronted by Mirror copies of themselves that voice their deepest insecurities, but each member overcomes their own doubts by relying on their friends. In the underground chapel, they find Alina, Nemu, and Touka waiting for them. At the back of the chapel, they see the massive, unhatched form of the Witch known as Embryo Eve. They reveal the full scope of their plan. They explain that Kyubey's true mission is to harvest the emotional energy of Magical Girls to counteract the universe's heat death. The cycle of hope and despair, culminating in a Magical Girl's transformation into a Witch, produces the necessary energy.[47]
- The Magius intend to usurp this system. They plan to use the phase transition energy from Eve's transformation into a full Witch to create a permanent forcefield over Kamihama. This field would allow Magical Girls to release their impurities as Doppels instead of becoming Witches, and the energy would be fed back to the universe, making Kyubey and new Magical Girl contracts obsolete. The imminent arrival of Walpurgisnacht is a key part of their plan, as its destruction by Eve will provide the massive energy required.[47]
- Despite understanding the plan, Iroha and her team refuse to accept the Magius' methods or their control over the future. The Magius argue that without their plan, Walpurgisnacht will destroy the city regardless.[47]

- Outside Fendt Hope, the battle against the Uwasa of Fendt Hope continues. Realizing they are losing, Mifuyu uses a dangerous self-illusion to unleash all her magic at once in a final attack. She destroys the Uwasa but becomes incapacitated in the process as her Soul Gem starts breaking.[47]
- In the chapel, the destruction of the Uwasa causes Fendt Hope's Labyrinth to collapse, and the chapel is exposed to the outside as the building disappears. After the collapse of Hotel Fendt Hope, the teams reunite in the forest as the Labyrinth vanishes. Yachiyo learns that Mifuyu was severely injured destroying the Uwasa and was taken to Mitama for treatment.[47]
- The Magius appear with Embryo Eve, now freed from the chapel, and they prepare to fully release Eve so it can devour the approaching Walpurgisnacht. A battle ensues as the teams try to stop them and Iroha and Sana break through the defensive line of Familiars to attack Eve directly. Iroha's attack on Eve fails and Eve captures Iroha but does not harm her. A bright light emanates from Iroha, allowing Sana to rescue her. Sana reveals she possesses a branch from the Uwasa of the Eternal Sakura, which was not in bloom when she received it. The branch suddenly blossoms after Iroha touches Eve and Iroha realizes that Embryo Eve is her missing sister, Ui Tamaki.[47]
- Iroha and Sana confront Embryo Eve on Takayama Mountain and Iroha believes Eve is her sister, Ui Tamaki, but Eve breaks free from the mountain and begins to move toward Kamihama City.[60]
- In Kamihama City, Walpurgisnacht approaches from the sea, accompanied by a massive horde of Familiars that begin to swarm the city. Magical Girl teams led by Hinano Miyako and Nanaka Tokiwa engage the Familiars along the coast to prevent widespread destruction.[60]
- At the ruins of Hotel Fendt Hope, Tsukasa and Tsukuyo bring the injured Mifuyu to Mitama Yakumo for emergency aid.[60]
- On Takayama Mountain, Iroha pleads with the combined Magical Girl forces not to kill Eve, revealing her belief that it is Ui. The Magius leaders and Alina retreat. Eve leaps into the sky, heading for Sankyo Ward in Kamihama. Yachiyo Nanami's team prepares to pursue Eve, while Madoka Kaname's group from Mitakihara heads to the coast to help defend against Walpurgisnacht.[60]
- At the Magius headquarters, Touka and Nemu dismiss Iroha's claims about Ui, despite Nemu's private suspicions. Alina expresses interest in Iroha's memories but remains focused on Eve's hatching.[60]
- After Eve's arrival in Sankyo Ward, Mitama informs Iroha and the team that Ui's true body and Soul Gem are contained within Embryo Eve, which is a "Half-Witch." To save Ui, they must defeat Eve's manifested form without destroying the Soul Gem and Mitama identifies a large red jewel on Eve's chest as the core that maintains its form and its weak point. Mitama also treats the comatose Mifuyu, whose Soul Gem is critically cracked from overuse. Mitama stabilizes it but cannot fully heal her, and Tsukuyo and Tsukasa decide to rejoin the fight.[60]
- As Eve rampages through Sankyo Ward, the combined Magical Girl teams attack Eve but find their assaults completely ineffective. Mitama, the Amane sisters, and other groups like Hinano Miyako's team regroup and they decide to consolidate their forces: one group will focus on defeating Eve, while the other prepares for Walpurgisnacht's landfall.[60]
- Felicia readies her hammer and strikes Eve on the head with a magic‑powered blow, using her memory‑obliterating ability to confuse Eve and halt its advance; in the aftermath of the strike, a strange glow is visible near Eve's belly. Meanwhile, the Amane sisters relay the critical intelligence about Eve's red jewel weak point to Yachiyo's team. Eve begins to move toward Chuo Ward, and Sana proposes a plan to immobilize Eve so the team can target its weak point.[60]
- In Chuo Ward, the combined forces of Yachiyo's team, the Amane sisters, and other White Feathers execute a plan to immobilize Embryo Eve. They use chains from Sana's shield, spears, and plants to bind Eve to a large building and Iroha successfully strikes the large red jewel on Eve's chest, its weak point.[60]

- Eve retaliates by absorbing a massive vortex of impurities its Familiars had collected, causing its body to mutate and merge with the jewel. Iroha then sees a vision of Ui trapped within the core, reaffirming her resolve to save her, but the Magius arrive to protect Eve and ensure it consumes Walpurgisnacht. Iroha declares her intent to enter the gem to save Ui directly, and despite being severely injured, Sana, Tsuruno, and Felicia hold off the Magius, creating an opening for Iroha to advance toward Eve's core.[60]

- Iroha reaches Ui's body but cannot shatter the gem surrounding it completely. Touka arrives at her side, and questions her motives. Iroha declares Ui is her sister and a precious friend to Touka and Nemu, and as Iroha reaches for Ui, the Embryo Eve attacks and Lil' Kyubey intervenes and blocks the attack.[60]
- Touka and Nemu experience a flood of memories, recalling the original events. She remembers seeing Iroha with Kyubey in a Witch's Labyrinth, learning about Magical Girls, and devising a plan with Ui and Nemu to usurp Kyubey's powers to create an automatic purification system and save all Magical Girls. Their plan failed when Ui's "harvest" ability went haywire upon her transformation, forcing Nemu to sever Ui's soul from her body and store it within the de-powered, small Kyubey to prevent her from becoming a Witch. This act erased Ui from the world's memory, as well as any traces of her.[60]
- Regaining their memories, Touka uses her stored energy to destabilize the Embryo Eve and Nemu uses her stories to restrain it. Iroha shatters Eve's central gem, and the small Kyubey releases Ui's soul. Ui awakens and reassures Touka and Nemu that she does not blame them for their shared decision. The Embryo Eve, now soulless, begins to decay.[60]
- The combined Magical Girl forces, including Mami, Kyoko, Madoka, Sayaka, and Homura, continue their battle against Walpurgisnacht in Chuo Ward. Despite their numbers, the Witch proves immensely powerful and resilient.[60]

- In Chuo Ward, a massive explosion of light and energy erupts from the location of the decaying Embryo Eve. The Eve has transformed into a new, stable form, and Touka deduces that Alina, who had previously shrunk the anti-Kyubey forcefield to contain the city's energy, has now wrapped that forcefield tightly around Eve. This action stabilized Eve's energy and prevented its decay, allowing Alina to control it as a tool for her art. Alina appears, now fused with an Uwasa in a manner similar to Holy Mami, and declares her intent to use Eve to create her ultimate masterpiece, disregarding the goal of Magical Girl liberation.[60]
- Meanwhile, as this is taking place, Mikage Yakumo, Mitama's younger sister, is approached by Kyubey when the Barrier disappears. After he explains Mitama's wish to her, Mikage makes a wish of her own to undo the effects of Mitama's wish.[61]
- Holy Alina asserts that humanity subconsciously desires destruction and that she will use the Embryo Eve to fulfill this wish as her ultimate artwork. Kanagi confronts her own past desire to destroy the city due to its history of conflict but ultimately rejects Alina's path as well.[60]

- Nemu, as the creator of Alina's Uwasa, takes responsibility. She uses the last of her life force to summon every Uwasa recorded in her book to attack Alina directly. The attack defeats Alina, making her disappear, but Nemu collapses, severely weakened and unable to move her legs, so White Feathers evacuate her to safety.[60]

- The Embryo Eve, now uncontrolled, begins to rampage and targets Ui, attempting to reabsorb her. Lil' Kyubey implies a solution: it will take Ui's place within Eve. Touka realizes that the small Kyubey, which contains Ui's former soul and Kyubey's original functions, possesses similar attributes to Eve. It is also incapable of becoming a Witch. Lil' Kyubey merges with the Embryo Eve, causing it to release all orbs of light from its body, lading in different parts of Kamihama. The small Kyubey thus becomes the core of the "Automatic Purification System" that Touka, Ui, and Nemu originally envisioned, preventing Magical Girls from becoming Witches within Kamihama City.[60]
- With Walpurgisnacht's arrival, the combined forces of Magical Girls, including the various teams from Kamihama and the team from Mitakihara, are on the verge of defeat. Homura and the others exhaust their weapons and energy in a desperate attempt to defeat it. They are exhausted, out of Grief Seeds, many are incapacitated, and despite their injuries and depleted resources, the girls refuse to give up.[62]
- As Walpurgisnacht prepares a massive attack that seems certain to annihilate them, an unknown, benevolent force envelops the Magical Girls. Iroha hears a mysterious voice and sees white feathers raining down, an experience shared by everyone on the battlefield. They all experience a sudden surge of energy and a feeling of being urged forward. This voice is from the Law of Cycles, who had been watching the timeline but not interfering with it. The feathers rejuvenate the group, lifting their spirits and empowering them to continue fighting; their strength is restored, and even the injured find themselves able to fight again. With morale returned, they rally together for one final, united assault, redirecting Walpurgisnacht to Kaihin Park using a coordinated strategy with their unique magical abilities.[62]
- The combined forces of Magical Girls coordinate their unique magics to combat Walpurgisnacht:
- Momoko and Natsuki Utsuho initiate the counterattack by using their Encouragement and Cheering magic to boost the morale and power of all allies.[62]
- Seizing this surge of energy, the team implements a complex strategy to control the battlefield. First, Felicia, Meiyui Chun, and Rika Ayano use their Memory Erasure, Persuasion, and Mind-Altering magic to disorient Walpurgisnacht and force it to change course toward the sea.[62]
- To precisely guide the Witch to the intended battleground, Tsuruno, Riko Chiaki, and Emiri Kisaki then use their Good Luck, Luring, and Charm magic, successfully leading Walpurgisnacht to the beachfront park while evading its attacks.[62]
- Once there, the focus shifts to immobilizing the colossal foe. Tsukuyo, Tsukasa, and Asuka Tatsuki use their Flute Blossom Resonance and Action Control magic in an attempt to halt Walpurgisnacht's movement entirely.[62]
- When it retaliates, Himika Mao diverts its attacks, creating an opening for Kanagi Izumi, who, with a power boost from Mitama's Coordination, attacks it directly to stun it.[62]
- This creates the crucial opening for a full restraint, and Mami, Kanoko Yayoi, and Kaede use Ribbon Binding, Stitching, and Plant magic to ensnare the Witch, which Rena amplified by using her Transformation magic to transform into Kaede and double the restraining power.[62]
- With Walpurgisnacht finally immobilized, Nanaka organizes their forces while Hazuki Yusa and Akira Shinobu identify its weak point with their magic, a gear connected to Walpurgisnacht's body.[62]
- The entire group then launch a coordinated, all-out assault, with offensive magics like Hinano Miyako's Chemical Explosions leading the charge.[62]
- Throughout the final attack, Kokoro Awane, Ayame Mikuri, and Konoha Shizumi provide vital defense with their Wall Creation, Safeguarding, and Fog Generation magic, protecting the assault team and ensuring their united strike could land.[62]
- Realizing their combined assault was not enough to deliver a final blow, the Magical Girls regroup and to ensure they could act as one perfect unit, Reira Ibuki uses her Purifying Flame to heal their wounds and replenish their energy, while Mito Aino uses her Heart-Linking magic to synchronize their hearts and minds, allowing their resolve to become perfectly aligned.[62]
- With their spirits united, they form a new strategy and Konomi Haruna uses her magic to force their Fighting Spirit to Bloom, amplifying their collective potential, while Kako Natsume uses her Event Reproduction magic to reinforce the gathered energy, and Ren Isuzu enacts her Nirvana magic to ensure the attack would bring permanent rest to the Witch if successful.[62]
- The plan to create a final weapon then commences. Ui uses her Harvest magic to gather the hope and magical energy from every single Magical Girl on the battlefield. She passes this immense energy to Touka, who used her Conversion magic to condense it all into a single, concentrated mass.[62]
- This mass of collective hope is then entrusted to Yachiyo, whose unique magic of Inheritance allows her to embody and control the power. She and Iroha shape this energy into a gigantic, radiant arrow aimed at the weak point that had been identified.[62]
- As they prepared to fire, Walpurgisnacht launches an attack to free itself from their binds. In that moment, Homura activates her Time-Stop, and touches Iroha, allowing her to move within the suspended time and take aim unimpeded.[62]
- With the path clear, Iroha releases the arrow and strikes the central gear with overwhelming force. As time resumed, the arrow consumed Walpurgisnacht in a brilliant explosion, finally ending the calamity and clearing the sky over Kamihama.[62]

- Homura reflects that she has finally surpassed this battle after countless timelines, and Madoka expresses relief that no more people will suffer from Walpurgisnacht. The girls in Kamihama also celebrate their hard-earned victory, despite the fact that many are injured and exhausted.[62]
Epilogue
- Some days after the defeat of Walpurgisnacht, Iroha and Ui see their parents off at the airport as they leave for their overseas assignment. Iroha and Ui then return to Mikazuki Villa in Kamihama City, where Yachiyo, Tsuruno, Felicia, and Sana welcome them back. Mifuyu is also present, as Iroha was able to use her magic to repair Mifuyu's damaged Soul Gem, allowing her to recover. Later that day, Momoko, Rena, Kaede, Kanagi, and Mitama visit Mikazuki Villa as well.[62]
- Some time later, Ultimate Madoka, a being who identifies as a record-keeper of all universes reflects on the new timeline centered on Kamihama. She states she intervened one last time by sending a "rain of feathers" to empower the Magical Girls but will now only observe, fearing further direct interference could damage this fragile new reality.[62]
- Touka and Nemu organize a meeting for all Magical Girls involved in the recent conflict to discuss the actions of the Wings of the Magius and the future fate of all Magical Girls.[62]

- Iroha, Ui, Touka, and Nemu visit the Eternal Sakura. The Uwasa of the Eternal Sakura congratulates them on finally being together as friends and Nemu, who now uses a wheelchair, accepts her condition as a consequence of her past actions. Iroha briefly wonders about the whereabouts of the small Kyubey that once accompanied her, and then meet Lil' Kyubey in the Eternal Sakura Labyrinth again.[62]
- After some days, Homura reflects on their victory. Despite saving Madoka and defeating Walpurgisnacht, she feels uncertain. The fundamental curse of Magical Girls becoming Witches remains, and she questions if this timeline is truly the best outcome. At school, Mami informs the group about recent disappearances and people getting lost, which they attribute to a new Witch. They devise a plan to track it by mapping the incidents. Kyoko arrives from Kazamino, also hunting the same Witch, and a tense alliance forms.[63]
- Later that day, the group splits into teams to search the area Mami identified. Madoka notices Homura's preoccupation and reassures her. The teams locate the Witch's Labyrinth and coordinate their attack. During the battle, Homura fears for her friends' safety, but they work together effectively. Kyoko and Sayaka create an opening for Mami and Madoka to deliver the final blow, while Homura evacuates the Witch-Kissed civilians.[63]
- After the battle, Kyoko gives the Grief Seed to Mami and Sayaka declares she has no regrets about becoming a Magical Girl, valuing the power to protect and the friends she has made. This prompts Mami to reconcile with Kyoko, asking to be true friends who help each other when needed again, to which Kyoko agrees. Madoka then states she is also glad she became a Magical Girl, expressing faith in the future because of her friends. This resolve causes Homura to weep with joy, finally believing this timeline, where they face their fate together, could be the one she sought.[63]
- The following day, the group, including Kyoko, shares a meal at a pancake restaurant. They discuss an upcoming meeting in Kamihama to address the Magius' actions. While Kyoko opts not to attend, the others plan to update her later.[63]

Cherry Blossom Dreams
- After the defeat of Walpurgisnacht, the Eternal Sakura completed her duties as an Uwasa when her tree came into full bloom. Her Rumor was rewritten and she was connected to Touka's server, reborn as an Uwasa with ample knowledge who would later be named Sakurako. Around this time, Yachiyo received a message asking what should be done about the six ringleaders of the Magius—Touka Satomi, Nemu Hiiragi, Mifuyu Azusa, Mitama Yakumo, Tsukuyo Amane, and Tsukasa Amane. Nemu proposed rewriting the Eternal Sakura to serve as an impartial judge. They designed three trials: the first to analyze crimes and calculate a verdict, the second to survey all Magical Girls, and the third to reach a final decision based on responses. Punishments ranged from monitoring to destruction of the Soul Gem.[64]
- In the first trial, Sakurako sentenced Touka and Nemu to the maximum penalty. Mifuyu received power revocation, reduced from maximum due to testimony that she helped destroy Fendt Hope. Mitama received conditional power revocation, allowed to transform only for Coordinator work. The Amane sisters received power restriction. After the trial, Touka and Nemu remained calm, thanking everyone. Yachiyo noted they had intentionally omitted their ages from consideration.[64]
- Two days later, Nemu and Sakurako wait at a train station with others. Nearby girls whisper about Nemu, recognizing her as one of the Magius and questioning why she faces no punishment. Ui argues with Iroha about using the Stardust Time Viewer, while Touka pushes through the crowd, disheveled from navigating the train alone. The three girls reunite, each feeling it is a dream. Touka sends Ui a photo of the map they created together in the hospital. The group travels to the mall, where Ui finally visits the croquette shop she always wanted to try, and they share plates to taste each other's orders. From there, they take a rickshaw to Mizuna Shrine, where they briefly encounter Tsukuyo and Tsukasa, who quickly hurry away. The group buys prayer plaques, though most hesitate at the cost until a shrine attendant suggests writing prayers on the back of their fortunes instead. Iroha wishes for all Magical Girls to get along, while Touka and Nemu write their own wishes. They argue over where to go next—Touka wants a lookout point in Hokuyo Ward, but Ui resists rushing. Sakurako suggests they also face reality, so they head to Central Ward, still scarred from Walpurgisnacht and Eve.[64]
- Ui admits she used the library as an excuse to bring them here, hoping the Stardust Time Viewer would show them a hopeful future. Nemu summons the Rumor, transporting them to a star-filled space. The Viewer shows Iroha's future: a world where the Doppel system has expanded globally and all Magical Girls coexist peacefully. Iroha feels embarrassed, but Sakurako assures her the wish is beautiful. When Ui asks to see her own future, the Viewer has nothing to show. Ui realizes this means Touka and Nemu are absent from Iroha's future and accuses them of planning to die. The vision fades, returning them to the rubble of Central Ward. Touka and Nemu admit they believe they should die for their crimes, pointing to the destruction around them, the Feathers they manipulated, and the innocent people hurt. Sakurako confirms she knew this all along. Ui slaps them both, demanding they consider how she feels. Nemu explains they wanted to do what they could while they still had time.[64]
- The second trial begins. No surveys have arrived. Sakurako agrees to wait one hour. Yachiyo and others leave to retrieve them. Mifuyu confronts Touka and Nemu, asking if they sabotaged the surveys. They admit they did, altering the date so the surveys would not arrive in time. They wanted to be judged and sentenced to death to spare Ui from the hatred directed at them. Ui refuses to accept this. She and Iroha transform to protect them. The hour ends and Sakurako moves to deliver punishment. Iroha and Ui hold her back as Mifuyu and Mitama join the defense. The Amane sisters attack Sakurako with their flutes, accepting heavier sentences. Iroha realizes they can use photos of the surveys as evidence. Mifuyu and Mitama's phones begin chiming with images from Yachiyo and the others. Iroha begs Sakurako to accept the evidence. Sakurako confirms the surveys are real and delays the trial, requiring them to arrive by day's end. The surveys show Magical Girls believe Touka and Nemu should be punished, but not killed. Some suggest atonement, rehabilitation, or mentorship. Reading the responses, Touka and Nemu weep, but Ui weeps with joy. Based on the surveys, sentences are reduced. Touka and Nemu receive monitoring with transformation-prevention bracelets, while Mifuyu and Mitama's sentences are reduced to monitoring. The Amane sisters are found not guilty and Feathers who revealed themselves have their cases dismissed.[64]
- At Mikazuki Villa, the group gathers. Touka and Nemu wear their bracelets. Sakurako serves drinks. Mifuyu asks about tutoring Touka in exchange for help with pharmacy school. Nemu will rely on Sakurako for mobility on difficult days. Tsuruno suggests welcoming them as the Brains of Kamihama. In the kitchen, Sakurako hugs Touka and Nemu, then Iroha and Ui. She tells them she loves them. The days she always dreamed of have arrived. The real spring can finally begin.[64]
The following stories take place during this time in the following order. See their individual pages listed below for a full synopsis.
Tart / Darc Magica
- Through Minou's spell from 15th-century France, Ui is pulled into the past, with her phone acting as her Soul Gem and Blank Prophecy, with the power to restore the past's real history.[65]
- Returning from the past, Ui finds herself in an antique store, still surrounded by magic bubbles though no memory of what occured. On the floor are the two candles and the old book. She feels they are important but cannot remember why, so she puts them on store shelves before falling asleep again.[65]
- Ui wakes up at Mikazuki Villa. Her phone rings with a text of Nemu asking if she knows any charms, as Mitama has been really into them lately. Ui says she knows a charm for good dreams requiring red and blue candles. Nemu asks where she heard about it and Ui isn't sure but says it was in 15th-century France. Nemu is fascinated and promises to research it. Later, Ui scrolls through her phone and finds a photo she doesn't recognize with girls she doesn't know. She begins crying without understanding why and Iroha finds her and hugs her tightly. Suddenly Ui remembers Darc's final words. She turns to her sister and tells her, "Let's have a wonderful future together." Iroha agrees. Ui calms down and heads home to prepare for a slumber party with Nemu and Touka. Iroha, running errands, decides to stop by Mitama's place afterward. Mitama greets her warmly, mentioning she just learned an interesting little charm.[65]
- That day, Iroha visits Mitama, who gives her and Yachiyo antique candles for a sweet dream spell. That night, they light the candles and drift off to sleep together, where they're pulled into the nightmare of Jeanne d'Arc in April 29th, 1429.[66]
- The next morning, Yachiyo reveals she had the same dream. They call Mitama, who is surprised they had nightmares instead of sweet dreams. They decide to try the candles again.[66]
- They awaken to find Kamihama plunged into darkness and all non-Magical Girls vanished. Their Soul Gems have consumed magic in the real world despite no injuries. Realizing the dream affects reality, they decide to return.[66]
- After a lot of fighting, they awaken and prepare for the final battle. In this journey they discover that they'd been traveling to Darc's dream, and if Darc despairs completely, she will turn into a Witch and trigger a catastrophe affecting the real world.[66]
- They awaken to find Felicia and Sana gone and Kamihama empty. Breaking into Mitama's shop, they find a grimoire revealing the candles were made with Darc's hair, creating a connection to her dream. They return with the book.[66]
- They finally awaken at Mikazuki Villa to sunshine and normalcy. Felicia demands steak for dinner. Consulting a history book, they read that on May 7th, 1429, Jeanne d'Arc fought at Tourelles after waking from a dream. The battle was fierce but Orléans was liberated. Iroha notices a portrait in the book showing them in their Magical Girl outfits standing beside Jeanne d'Arc.[66]
- Later at Mitama's shop, Yachiyo recounts everything. Mitama mentions the spell became widespread in France during Jeanne d'Arc's era. Iroha realizes Melissa must have spread it after learning it from them in the dream. The use of red and blue candles was too specific to be coincidence. Iroha's head spins trying to figure out where the spell originated. Yachiyo notes the grimoire never mentioned the candle setup, so the spell just circled around and around. They will never know for certain whether they changed history or were always part of it.[66]
- During their slumber party, Ui, Touka, and Nemu encounter a massive witch, Crépuscule de La Reine. Touka and Nemu vanish, leaving Ui and Sakurako to face it alone. The witch is unaffected by their attacks and disappears, taking Ui with it into 15th-century France once more, this time in the realm of Purgatory which Minou created. With Pernelle's help, Ui is soon able to also summon Iroha and Yachiyo there as well.[67]
- Iroha, Yachiyo, Ui, and Sakurako pass through the gates and return to their future, reuniting with Touka and Nemu as their memories fade.[67]
- Lil' Kyubey and Ui's phone as the Blank Prophecy are pulled as "If Factors" into the world of Holy Maiden Academy, which Minou created and maintained for six hundred years after being given a Philosopher's Stone after Isabeau's death. However, after her plans are thwarted by the "what if" version of Melissa, he returns and wakes in the real world, where Iroha and Ui assure him it was just a dream.[68]

Beachside Bonds

- August 11: Homura writes in her diary as she and her friends take an air-conditioned express train to the beach for summer vacation. They buy ice cream and enjoy the ride.[77]
- The girls arrive at their destination, a seaside inn run by Sayaka's relatives who had a sudden cancellation. Sayaka complains about the heat as they walk to the inn.[77]
- At the inn, Sayaka's aunt shows them to their rooms and warns them not to get lost in the surrounding forest. Outside, two young girls who live at the inn approach Madoka. They ask if she knows someone named Kei, who is looking for someone named Yu. They warn Madoka not to talk to Kei and that she should hold still if Kei enters her room. The girls then leave. Homura suggests Kei might be a cat. They agree to tell the others as Kyoko passes by already in her swimsuit.[77]
- At the beach, the girls play volleyball. Mami spikes the ball hard and hits Homura in the face. They stop the game and Mami frets over Homura. Madoka suggests they rest in the shade while Mami buys something cold. Madoka then suggests they collect pine cones from nearby trees.[77]
- In the forest, a cat appears and leads them deeper into the trees. It guides them to a small shrine, where Homura finds an old notebook. She reads entries from April 20, June 24, August 3, and August 6, all detailing the author's complicated feelings for someone named Kei. Madoka tells her to put it back without reading further. When they turn around, the cat is gone.[77]
- Back at the beach, Sayaka shares a rumor from the beach house: a girl fell off a nearby cliff years ago and died, and her spirit is reportedly seen rising from the ocean between two and three a.m. Mami shrieks in fear.[77]
- At the inn, Kyoko teases Mami about being scared. The conversation turns to ghosts and Kyoko compares them to how normal people might perceive Witches. Madoka feels relieved and tells Sayaka about the twin girls. Sayaka plans to ask them about any pets later.[77]
- After an Italian dinner, the girls light fireworks on the beach. Kyoko bumps into Hinano Miyako, who doesn't recognize her but does recognize her Soul Gem ring. Ren Isuzu finds Hinano, followed by Emiri Kisaki and Rika Ayano. The groups combine for fireworks. Emiri admits she used a little magic to help everyone relax, explaining why Kyoko had strange memories of Mami. Kyoko chases Sayaka around the beach.[77]
- Heading back to the inn, Sayaka finds her twin cousins lining up stones. They claim the stones protect against Kei entering. They say Kei would hate Sayaka the most because she is nosy, then leave. In her diary, Homura writes that the girls talked until they all fell asleep.[77]
- August 12 Homura's diary entry describes a dream belonging to someone else. In the dream, the narrator waits for her friend Yusa Yumeno, who arrives with popsicles. The narrator complains that Yusa doesn't need to come every day, but Yusa insists she can only be her real self around her friend. The narrator believes identity is shaped by others' perceptions. She reveals she may not take college exams due to family obligations and urges Yusa to attend her chosen school, comparing herself to a weed and Yusa to a flower growing in a different direction. The narrator comes home to another hateful letter from classmates.[77]
- Homura wakes in a cold sweat, unable to move. The room smells strongly of seaweed. She sees a pitch-black human shadow sitting between Mami and Sayaka's futons. It examines their faces, grumbling "wrong, wrong, all wrong." As it moves toward Madoka, Homura struggles to move. The shadow stops and stares at her, asking "You can see me?" Homura screams.[77]
- The others wake. Sayaka notices the strange smell. Kyoko goes back to sleep. Mami offers water and Homura asks if someone entered the room. They saw no one. Sayaka apologizes for the scary stories. Mami suggests thinking about tomorrow's fun. Madoka offers to hold Homura's hand, which she accepts.[77]
- Homura wakes early, the ocean scent still strong. She finds the twin girls outside. They ask if she met Kei. Homura asks what Kei is. The girls explain Kei looks like a human made of shadow without facial features, smells of the sea, and emerges from the ocean at night to look for her friend Yu. They repeat that she should do nothing and never talk to her. They notice their protective stones scattered and go to reline them.[77]
- Homura suspects this might be a Rumor. She returns to the forest shrine and finds the notebook on the shrine's lattice door, despite having placed it underneath. She reads entries from May 2, May 20, June 12, and June 26, all detailing the author Yu's complicated, obsessive feelings for Kei. She replaces the notebook, feeling guilty.[77]
- At the beach, Homura recalls more diary entries: July 2 describes Yu placing hands on Kei's neck as if to strangle her; July 5 compares Kei's neck to a lizard she killed; July 15 describes Kei now finding Yu after school; July 20 states they should never have met and that both wear bandages to hide bruises on their necks. Madoka points out a small bruise on Homura's neck.[77]
- The girls begin walking to an aquarium along the coast. Kyoko complains about the distance and suggests fishing instead. Sayaka refuses, traumatized by a recent fishing tournament incident in Kamihama.[77]
- At the aquarium, they eat fish burgers, marvel at jellyfish, and watch a dolphin and seal show. They leave at sunset.[77]
- The girls walk to a cape to watch the sunset. Sayaka warns them not to get too close to the edge, referencing the girl who died. Homura smells flowers and Mami identifies night-blooming jasmine nearby. The scent reminds Homura of her dream.[77]
- She recalls another diary entry: August 1 describes Yu feeling happy hearing Kei's wish despite blaming herself; August 12 states their plan is set for tomorrow, with Yu hoping something will make Kei reconsider.[77]
- On the cape, Kyoko admits feeling down because a cape is the end of the road with nothing after. Mami says it's more important they could talk again like they used to.[77]
- Homura writes in her diary about the difference between the self you know and the self others perceive. She asks Madoka what kind of person she thinks Homura is. Madoka calls her a dear friend who works hard. Homura worries that revealing her time-traveling truth would change this perception. After dinner, the girls settle in for sleep.[77]
- August 13: Homura dreams again of Kei and Yu. Kei calls out that the promised day is here. She has dressed up and brought a ribbon to tie them together. Yu questions if this is right. Kei insists her life belongs only to Yu. They vow: "In every life, we end whenever we meet." They promise to kill each other for every reincarnation as proof of who they are.[77]
- A voice calls Homura to wake. She awakens to find Madoka standing with eyes closed, enveloped in shadow. Madoka snaps her eyes open and proclaims repeatedly "I got in." She calls out for Yu, saying the promised day is finally here. Madoka runs into the forest toward the cliff. Homura chases.[77]
- At the cape, everything grows dark. Madoka, possessed by Kei's spirit, tells Homura that the drowned Chinese girl's body washed up here and she is looking for her father's ship. Homura urges her to chase after the girl to escape, but Kei claims Homura will kill her as soon as they leave. Homura transforms and attempts to freeze time but finds her magic has no effect in this place where time does not flow.[77]
- Ren's voice calls out. She informs Homura that the others are searching for them, but only Ren could traverse into this abyss. Ren suggests this might be similar to her own magic rather than a Witch.[77]
- Kei admits she tried possessing Homura but could not, so she settled for Madoka. She explains she is a faint memory staining the cliffside. The drowned girl's spirit helped her recall all her memories clearly. She describes how she and Yu bound themselves together and jumped into the ocean, but the waves pulled them apart. Kei died; Yu survived. Kei wants to kill Yu so they can kill each other throughout eternity.[77]
- Homura refuses to stay in the abyss with Madoka. Kei transforms Madoka into her magical girl state and attacks. Ren blocks the blow and tries to use her magic to draw out the possession. Homura calls out the vow Kei and Yu made, distracting Kei. Ren attempts her magic but the ghost of the drowned Chinese girl deflects it.[77]
- Ren realizes the ghost girl is not a girl but the root cause: the Witch Paola. The barrier forms and Homura fights the Witch alone while Ren hurries to catch up.[77]
- The Barrier dissipates and Homura faces the possessed Madoka on the cape. Kei accuses Homura of killing her. Homura tells her to shut up and leave their lives alone. Kei explains she will soon fade if Yu is not there. She begs Homura to kill Yu if she ever meets her, before her soul breaks and she becomes like the Witch. She begs Homura to keep this promise no matter where they meet or how many worlds Homura visits. Kei then relinquishes Madoka's body.[77]
- Ren arrives, relieved they are safe. Madoka wakes with no memory, thinking she simply tossed and turned. The other girls find them and celebrate.[77]
- Homura writes in her diary, describing the events as too strange to comprehend. She reflects on Kyubey's use of the term "soul" and questions what a soul truly is.[77]
- Sayaka sighs that even on vacation they dealt with a Witch. Kyoko thinks she's getting rusty. Mami suggests Homura was right about a Witch mixing with a Rumor. Madoka telepathically tells them to quiet down since Homura is asleep.[77]
- In her final dream, Homura sees Yu wake in a hospital on an unknown date. Kei died. Their bruises were dismissed. Yu returned to school where others used her grief as their own. Unable to bear going on without Kei, she nearly threw herself off the cliff again. All she holds onto is their final words: "In every life, we end whenever we meet." But if the Yu that died that day is gone, who is the girl writing now? An image of Kyubey flashes on the screen.[77]
- Deep in the dream, Homura recalls Kei's plea on the cliff. But Homura never agreed or promised anything.[77]
The following stories take place during this time in the following order. See their individual pages listed below for a full synopsis.
Kamihama in a Circle
- Rika and Ren arrive in a new ward, with Rika frustrated about oversleeping. They notice another Magical Girl nearby. Elsewhere, Konomi arrives alone while Kako declines to participate due to her team's policy. Manaka scolds Ria for being late because of her hair. Masara, Kokoro, and Aimi gather at a park, with Kokoro convincing Masara to participate. Reira, Mito, and Seika discuss the upcoming gathering of Magical Girls who have fought together before.[78]
- At Mikazuki Villa, Iroha and Yachiyo finish chores that had been delayed by Felicia's laundry mishap. They reflect on everything that has happened since Iroha came to Kamihama searching for Ui—the investigations, battles with the Wings of Magius, the automatic purification system, and the truth about Witches spreading. Despite the chaos, things have begun to settle.[78]
- Iroha and Yachiyo rush to the park, worried about being late. Tsuruno meets them and playfully scolds them before carrying them the rest of the way. Iroha reflects on meeting Tsuruno while investigating Uwasas, and how their bonds grew stronger through battling together. She notes that everyone at Mikazuki Villa has decided to support one another.[78]
- The group stops at a convenience store. Felicia appears, having visited Ayame first. Konoha and Hazuki are not coming to the gathering, but Yachiyo notes they have helped in the past. Felicia asks for chocolate. Iroha reflects on first meeting Felicia when she was a violent mercenary, and how living together has changed them both. She notes that Yachiyo has cared for Felicia more than anyone.[78]
- The group takes a shortcut through a back alley. They find Sana hiding, having spotted Kaede's cat Gorojiro. Sana explains she was patrolling for dangerous Magical Girls while staying hidden. Iroha thanks her but assures her she can relax today. They invite her to join them. Iroha reflects on sympathizing with Sana's isolation and how Mikazuki Villa became an important place for them all. Yachiyo notes that Sana, once invisible to everyone but Magical Girls, is gradually finding her place in the world.[78]
- Ui, Touka, and Nemu meet the group. They have visited their old hospital to update the doctors and nurses who cared for them. Touka discusses her research on connecting universes, admitting practical application remains difficult but the possibility exists. Iroha reflects on how it still feels like a dream to see the three of them together. Yachiyo notes that while their past methods were wrong, their purpose of liberating Magical Girls was not, and that purpose continues now.[78]
- Momoko, Rena, and Kaede join them, having stopped at a retro arcade where they won a stuffed animal together despite their usual arguing. Touka reveals a small possibility for connecting universes has been found, using the Endless Mirrors. Iroha reflects on first meeting Momoko and Kaede, and now sharing lunches with Rena. Yachiyo notes the three have strong bonds as a team and helped convince other Magical Girls after the truth about witches spread.[78]
- Mitama joins, having taken a break from her shop to visit Kanagi. Tsuruno asks about using Mirrors to connect to other universes. Mitama confirms she and Kanagi have accompanied Touka and Nemu into the Mirrors. Nemu explains they were only experimenting with precautions. Touka insists she has plans if things go wrong. Mitama notes Mirrors has become more complex and will need more entrances. Iroha reflects on meeting Kanagi relatively recently and how they now work together despite past rivalry. She also thinks of Mitama's help and her surprising wish, but notes the city is moving forward. She wants to hold hands with more people and form a circle together.[78]
- From a distance, Iroha and Yachiyo watch Magical Girls gathering at the park. Felicia attempts to cure Iroha's nerves by hitting her, claiming Tsuruno said it would help. Tsuruno quickly corrects her. Hinano arrives, reporting on her task regarding Alina. Karin, who attends school with Alina, explains Alina is still missing and she does not know where she is. Iroha promises they will find her together. Mifuyu arrives with the Amane twins, apologizing for being late. Yachiyo thanks Mifuyu. Iroha reflects that a new step is beginning. Yachiyo notes her story started moving when Mifuyu disappeared, while Iroha's began with strange dreams. They have connected with so many Magical Girls. One chapter has ended and a new one is about to begin.[78]
- Iroha addresses the gathered Magical Girls, thanking them for coming. She reflects on fighting together against powerful Witches and sharing knowledge about their fate. Yachiyo notes they started from individual concerns, fought Uwasas and the Wings of Magius, and gained something greater in return. Their purpose is now the same as their former enemies: the liberation of Magical Girls. They seek coexistence with Kyubey without sacrificing themselves. Iroha acknowledges not everyone could participate, but all have agreed to help each other. Yachiyo admits skepticism is natural. Iroha declares that by expanding the automatic purification system across Kamihama, they can welcome liberation and coexist with Kyubey. Yachiyo announces they will work together under a new name starting today.[78]
- Iroha begins to declare their new name but is interrupted by a flash of light. Wings appear on her back, and Yachiyo also grows wings. Feathers fall across the park. Yachiyo recalls this phenomenon helped them against Walpurgisnacht. Iroha wonders if it is a blessing upon the Magical Girls of Kamihama holding hands. With this blessing, they declare again that the Magical Girls gathered here are allies who will support each other in hardship. They declare themselves the Kamihama Magia Union.[78]
- After the establishment of the Kamihama Magia Union, a celebration is held at Walnut's. During the party, Manaka receives a phone call and panics, announcing that Nemu has been kidnapped.[79]
- The group splits up to search nearby areas but finds nothing. Hinano eventually discovers Nemu held hostage by Black and White Feathers from outside Kamihama. Using Ryo and Ikumi to infiltrate, their cover is blown and they are surrounded. Sakurako jumps in to defend them as Iroha arrives with reinforcements.[79]
- The lead Feather explains they kidnapped Nemu to convince the Magius to lead them again, as they do not know how to achieve liberation on their own. Iroha explains the Kamihama girls share their goals but reject their methods. Nemu and Touka ask the Feathers to join them.[79]
- Before they can respond, white feathers rain from the sky again, the same power that helped them defeat Walpurgisnacht returns, but this time it feels uncontrolled and dangerous. Touka explains her experiment partially worked, creating a wormhole to another world, but the interference may crush their world. Kanagi and Mitama fail to disable the device sending the signal.[79]
- Sana sneaks Nemu to where the device was stationed, but the labyrinth is gone. Nemu enters the password anyway, but nothing happens. The world shakes and a voice urges them to close the gate. Iroha realizes the power is trying to help, not hurt them.[79]
- Yachiyo devises a plan: Ui will absorb the magic built up inside them, Touka will convert it, and Iroha will fire an arrow to close the gate. As the sun sets, they enact the plan and succeed. The feathers stop falling.[79]
- Iroha asks the Feathers to reconsider joining them. The lead Feather admits her stubbornness and rage, and Nemu and Touka apologize. The Feathers accept, becoming the first recruits to the union on the day it was established.[79]
- Late that night, the group gathers outside Walnut's. They discuss the voice they heard and the power from another universe. Touka throws a tantrum over everyone calling her experiment a failure, and her stress causes her to unleash her Doppel.[79]
- Elsewhere, a mysterious magical girl observes and turns to report back to the Tokime Tribe. In another place, a different magical girl also observes and decides to report her findings. In a different location, Kagome Satori has found Iroha at last, promising to keep a record of their lives.[79]
Voices from Beyond, Part 2
- With peace restored in Kamihama, Yachiyo visits a flower shop to buy flowers for Mel's grave, still haunted by never defeating Mel's Witch. She unexpectedly encounters Mifuyu and Mel's mother, who reassures them Mel was happy because of their love. Walking toward the cemetery, Yachiyo and Mifuyu are engulfed by the barrier of the Witch Etteilla—Mel's Witch. They struggle against both the Witch and their own fears: Mifuyu fears defeating it means forgetting Mel, while Yachiyo fears losing anyone else. Remembering the ghosts' encouragement, Yachiyo convinces Mifuyu they must move forward because Mel and Kanae wanted them to. They defeat the Witch together.[57]
- At Mel's grave, they place flowers and the Grief Seed from the Witch, hoping her soul has finally found peace. They silently promise to keep moving forward. Mifuyu wonders if Mel's Witch appeared to give them a push, and they smile, repeating Mel's favorite phrase: all things happen when they must. Yachiyo invites Mifuyu to see the belongings Mel and Kanae left behind, and Mifuyu gladly accepts.[57]

Pre-Arc 2
The following events, while happening likely much earlier, are integral to understanding the story of Arc 2, while being mostly unrelated to other events. For this reason, they have been grouped here.
The Green Jasper Diviners
- One evening in late March, Chiharu watches her favorite detective drama at home. After it ends, her mother answers a phone call and becomes visibly shaken. She tells Chiharu they must leave tomorrow for the Tokime Clan's village.[80]
- The next day, Chiharu and her mother drive deep into the mountains to a village that does not appear on any map. They are greeted by a villager and brought to the home of Mikoshiba, the elderly head priestess. Mikoshiba explains she summoned them because she wants Chiharu to become a Diviner.[80]
- The following day, two young Diviners, Shizuka and Sunao, visit Chiharu. They explain that Diviners grant wishes to help the nation and fight invisible evil spirits called Devils. To prove it, they demonstrate their powers and defeat a Devil before Chiharu's eyes. Despite her mother's concerns, Chiharu decides to become a Diviner. Mikoshiba gives Chiharu her assigned wish: to uncover evidence of crimes being concealed by the National Police Agency.[80]
- That night, Chiharu participates in the Diviner's Ceremony. She meets Kyubey, the god's envoy, and makes her wish. She becomes a Diviner.[80]
- The next morning, Chiharu wakes to find her wish has already come true. A newspaper reports that officials have suddenly reversed their position on the concealed crimes. She excitedly begins combat training with Shizuka's mother.[80]
- One week later, the three girls go hunting for Devils together. Chiharu successfully defeats her first Devil. Afterward, she asks what happens when a Diviner's jewel becomes completely tainted. Shizuka admits she does not know.[80]
- Later, Chiharu senses a mysterious, unpleasant smell near the shrine. Shizuka finds her and warns her to stay away from restricted areas. Shizuka then visits Mikoshiba to ask about tainted jewels. Mikoshiba reveals that when a jewel becomes completely tainted, it signifies the Diviner's coming of age and their time to leave the village. Shizuka is satisfied with this answer.[80]
- The next day, Chiharu continues sensing the strange smell near the shrine. She investigates but stops herself from going too far. Later that night, a group of Underlings attacks her without a Labyrinth. Shizuka arrives and helps her defeat them. However, Shizuka's jewel becomes badly tainted from the effort.[80]
- The following day, Mikoshiba informs Shizuka that her jewel is nearly black and her coming-of-age ceremony will be held tomorrow. Chiharu is saddened but promises to meet Shizuka again outside the village.[80]
- That night, Chiharu cannot sleep. She goes to the shrine to watch Shizuka's ceremony from a distance. She sees Mikoshiba and Shizuka speaking. Shizuka becomes distressed and cries out. Mikoshiba pushes her into the waterfall basin. Chiharu runs to save her and jumps in after her.[80]
- The next day, Chiharu and Shizuka wake up in Sunao's home. Sunao confesses she was ordered by Mikoshiba to kill anyone who defied the village's will, including them. She hesitated after hearing Shizuka's words by the river. Shizuka reveals what Mikoshiba told her during the ceremony: Diviners eventually become Devils, and the "coming-of-age" ceremony is actually a killing ritual to dispose of them. No Diviner has ever left the village.[80]
- The three realize the entire village may be inside a Devil's Labyrinth. They decide to confront Mikoshiba and the Devil.[80]
- They split up to search. Chiharu finds her mother and Shizuka's mother fighting Underlings. Shizuka finds the villagers hiding safely but notices her mother and Chiharu's mother are missing. Sunao searches Mikoshiba's house and finds a hidden laptop with audio files recording conversations about selling Diviners' wishes.[80]
- They regroup and deduce the Devil is beneath the Grand Shrine. They descend and find Mikoshiba controlling the Devil. She admits everything: the Diviners are sold, killed when used up, and the village exists to produce them for profit. She orders the Devil to kill them.[80]
- The three girls fight together. Chiharu binds the Devil, Shizuka attacks, and Sunao delivers the final blow. They defeat it.[80]
- Mikoshiba survives but claims to remember nothing. Sunao confronts her about the recordings. Before she can explain, she bites a hidden poison tooth and dies.[80]
- Chiharu searches Mikoshiba's body and finds a book written in an ancient script. Because of her family's tradition, Chiharu and her mother can read it. They stay up all night deciphering it.[80]
- The next morning, Chiharu explains what the book revealed. The Mikoshiba clan were originally guards who seized control of the village centuries ago. They created the rituals, learned to manipulate Devils, and hid the village inside a Labyrinth to produce and sell Diviners. The Wavering Deity is a Devil formed from all the discarded Diviners. Now that the Labyrinth is gone, it is returning to the village. They must defeat it.[80]
- Shizuka's mother gives them a treasured sword infused with generations of Diviners' power. They intercept the Wavering Deity before it reaches the village. The Devil's power overwhelms them, and Shizuka nearly gives in to despair. Sunao and Chiharu encourage her. Chiharu reveals the book also described the Tokime's original beliefs: they chose their own wishes, left the village willingly, and accepted their fate with honor. Shizuka regains her resolve. Together, they use the sword to destroy the Wavering Deity and free the trapped Diviners.[80]
- Days later, the village slowly recovers. The adults learn the truth and worry about their future without Mikoshiba's financial support. The three girls decide to find a way to avoid becoming Devils. They summon Kyubey, who tells them about Kamihama City, where an automatic purification system exists. If they can obtain it, they may escape their fate.[80]
- The next day, the girls prepare for their journey. Shizuka struggles with the new terminology used outside, where Diviners are called Magical Girls and Devils are called Witches. Chiharu's ability to sense malice hasn't bothered her now that the village is free. Shizuka suggests they first contact all Tokime clan members across the country and recruit Magical Girls willing to join them. Once they are ready, they will travel together to Kamihama City.[80]
- The village falls into financial crisis after the elder dies, having squandered most of the wealth on bad investments. Chiharu, inspired by a drama about a Shogun helping villages find their charm, recruits Shizuka and Sunao to help. The two are glad for the change, as most Tokime tribes have been unreceptive to their stories.[81]
- Touring the village with Shizuka and Sunao, Chiharu realizes she had been arrogant and now sees its charm—clear river, abundant mountain, kind villagers. The three propose developing tourism. Chiharu’s mother agrees after a trial run with her husband’s family.[81]
- The trial run is messy but the family enjoys the landscape, harvesting, fishing, and hospitality. They give useful feedback, and Chiharu’s uncle notes the village’s unique fruit. They stay overnight and leave pleased.[81]
- The villagers applaud Chiharu for noticing what they had overlooked. Her mother begins a proposal for tourism renovation funds, and the villagers regain their energy, working in tourism and seeking outside jobs.[81]
- Shizuka, Chiharu, and Sunao go to a grocery store, but Shizuka freezes in the crowd, unable to complete a simple purchase because of her sheltered upbringing. Chiharu suggests they ease her into city life with ice cream instead. Shizuka loves it, eating so quickly she gets brain freeze.[82]
- On the way home, Shizuka admits her mother will lecture her again about visiting the city unprepared. She asks if the others’ parents gave them similar advice. Chiharu’s parents only warned her not to waste money or follow strangers, while Sunao confesses she has never told her parents about her excursions—something Shizuka finds surprising given Sunao’s usual obedience. Shizuka advises her to tell them eventually.[82]
- At Chiharu’s house, her mother brings up a village problem: a surplus of daidaikko fruit needs to be used before it spoils. A villager working in another town found a grocery store willing to feature it in a showcase, but the only available slots are the next two days, and transportation from the village is impossible except by Diviners. Shizuka and Chiharu propose the three of them run the exhibition themselves, which would also help Shizuka adjust to the city. Sunao hesitates but agrees. Chiharu’s mother consents only if they get permission from the store and from Sunao and Shizuka’s parents.[82]
- Sunao’s mother interrogates her until she confesses the plan, then spirals into worry about middle schoolers working without a chaperone, carrying heavy loads, and coming home after dark. Sunao asks Chiharu and Shizuka to leave, promising she will convince her parents even if it takes all night. Outside, they reflect on how anxious Sunao’s mother is.[82]
- The next day, Sunao has secured permission. At the store, Shizuka volunteers for the cash register but cannot operate it correctly. Sunao is tense because her parents plan to visit the next day. Their first day is a struggle: Shizuka fumbles with the register, Chiharu is distracted by traces of malice in the stocking area, and Sunao gets trapped listening to an elderly customer’s endless stories.[82]
- After closing, Shizuka notes how worried Sunao’s parents seem, prompting Sunao to finally share her wish. She explains that her parents became relentlessly anxious after a trip to Tokime Village, questioning her constantly until she was nearly broken. Kyubey appeared, and she wished to erase the worries her parents had concerning her. The wish worked, but their fears simply shifted—now they worry endlessly about her safety as a magical girl. Sunao feels they are always upset with her, though Chiharu insists they only want her to be safe. Shizuka says Sunao must earn their trust, and tomorrow’s exhibition needs to go perfectly. With her friends’ support, Sunao agrees to try.[82]
- The next morning, the three tackle the exhibition with renewed determination. The day starts poorly: Shizuka causes another register problem, Chiharu is pulled away by her sense of malice, and Sunao endures a difficult customer—all while Sunao’s parents enter the store. But Shizuka, moved from the register, begins advising the clerks on how to rearrange the store to better showcase the daidaikko. She persuades them to let Chiharu investigate on her own and to trust Sunao with customer service.[82]
- Chiharu catches a shoplifter who had been repeatedly returning to the store. Sunao’s patience draws crowds after the elderly woman she helped spreads the word, and the exhibition becomes a huge success. Sunao’s parents apologize, saying they realized they had failed to see how capable she has grown. Sunao thanks Chiharu and Shizuka, then asks her parents to allow her to visit Kamihama City; now that she has her friends by her side, she knows she will be okay.[82]
Crimson Resolve
- In Futatsugi, Mitsuru Inami is approached by Kyubey to become a Magical Girl. Having grown with her mother always telling her she was no good at anything, she wishes to become completely normal, a wish she believes came true.[83]
- A Magical Girl transforms into a Witch before her kouhai Yuna Kureha, and Kyubey coldly confirms that all Magical Girls share this fate. The girls of Futatsugi slaughter every Kyubey in the city, and with no incubators left, new Witches stop appearing. Starved for Grief Seeds, the girls grow desperate, and the Bloody Tragedy begins.[84]
- Yuna now leads Torayamachi, one of the largest gangs in Futatsugi, living by her fallen senpai's words to avoid hatred and selfishness. When Witches begin reappearing, the rival Ryuugasaki gang learns that Torayamachi has lost their secret weapon known as the Horse, and leader Juri Ooba declares war.[84]
- In Janomiya, an undercover group of younger girls led by Ao Kasane, a girl named Hikaru accepts recruitment. Ao's true goal is to assassinate both Yuna and Juri.[84]
- Mitsuru is approached by two other girls who mistake her for a new recruit for Torayamachi. Mitsuru joins Yuna's faction, hoping to blend in, but when Yuna leads them into battle against a rival faction, Mitsuru panics and hides until the fighting ends. After their defeat, Yuna suspects a spy, and fearing suspicion, Mitsuru flees and infiltrates the rival faction instead.[83]
- Later, Mitsuru scouts Torayamachi but is spotted, triggering another battle between the factions. During the fight, attacks aimed at Mitsuru unconsciously miss her.[83] After this she gains a reputation as a "Ghost Magical Girl," which has attacks aimed at her always deflected and hitting others.[85]
- Yuna welcomes Hikaru, who claims to be fleeing Ryuugasaki, and assigns her to guard their Grief Seeds. Days pass with no attack, and Yuna's girls grow restless. To lift their spirits, Yuna reveals that the Horse is alive and watching from the shadows.[84]
- Juri's lieutenants advise waiting to let Torayamachi's tension wear them down. After interrogating a captured thief, Juri learns of Torayamachi's defensive preparations and decides to strike in two days.[84]
- Ao encounters the Bat of Monzenbashi, a former gang leader who once exploited her. With Hikaru's help, Ao subdues and captures her rather than killing.[84]
- On the night before battle, Juri meets Yuna on a bridge. She admits she dragged everyone into this because Yuna would not fight her otherwise, thanks her for accepting her sickness, and promises to burn her down when they next meet. Ao watches from a distance, planning to strike as the snake while the tiger and dragon clash.[84]
- That night, the battle begins across multiple bridges. Yuna's forces push Ranka's squad back, but Juri breaks through Sakuya's defense, killing one of her girls. As both sides converge on Monzenbashi, Ao lures both leaders to a construction site where Janomiya lies in wait.[84]
- When Janomiya attacks, wounding Juri, Hikaru reveals herself as Torayamachi's Horse, a spy planted in Janomiya from the beginning. Yuna knew everything. Janomiya is defeated, and Ao surrenders. Yuna spares her life and offers Juri an open door, but Juri swears she will break it down and drag her out. As police sirens wail, Yuna weeps over what she has done.[84]
- In the following days, Juri recovers in an empty base with only Ranka remaining loyal. Ao hunts for Ranka, determined to kill her before joining Torayamachi. Hikaru pleads with Ao to return, promising that Yuna will make her dream come true.[84]
- Yuna attempts to negotiate with Ryuugasaki girls, but a meeting by the river turns into an ambush. Two of her girls are killed. She fights desperately, thinking of Hikaru.[84]
- Ao reaches Ryuugasaki's base, finding only the wounded Juri. Juri taunts her, but Ao refuses to join her, still believing in Yuna. Ranka contacts Ao through their video game, asking to meet alone at Janomiya's base the following night.[84]
- The meeting is a trap, as Ranka has brought the Bat of Monzenbashi. As Ao fights Ranka and Hikaru fights the Bat, Ranka reveals that Yuna's meeting is also a trap. Hikaru runs to save Yuna.[84]
- At the river, Yuna is surrounded. Juri arrives and challenges her to a one-on-one fight. At Janomiya's base, the other Janomiya girls arrive to help Ao corner the Bat. Ranka sincerely apologizes for everything, and Ao hesitates to deliver the final blow. At the river, Hikaru engages Juri to protect Yuna, whose Soul Gem is badly tainted. Juri refuses to kill her in this state and retreats, promising to fight again when Yuna is at full strength.[84]
- Most of Torayamachi has left, following Yuna's instructions to join Ryuugasaki and avoid more bloodshed. Only Hikaru remains, refusing to leave her. Ao admits she has gained respect for Yuna but remains undecided about joining.[84]
- Sakuya brings the missing Torayamachi girl home. The girl reveals she went to Kamihama City and joined the Wings of the Magius, an organization that built a system to lure Witches from across the country, preventing them from appearing elsewhere. The Bloody Tragedy was their fault. Yuna, hearing the screams of her fallen comrades, vows to make Kamihama pay.[84]
- Yuna and Juri meet at the construction site where Yuna's senpai died. Yuna, running on pure rage, demands Juri become hers and help with her revenge. She overpowers the wounded Juri and prepares to kill her, but Hikaru intervenes, embracing Yuna and calming her down. Ao arrives with Kyubey, who confirms everything and offers to help them reach Kamihama in exchange for a truce. Yuna accepts, and Juri, Ao, Ranka, Sakuya, and Hikaru agree to join her.[84]
- Yuna, Juri, Ao, and Hikaru visit the sites where their friends died, offering flowers and vowing revenge. Yuna, Juri, and Ao drink each other's blood, swearing to never fight again. They are Promised Blood. That night, their path to Kamihama begins.[84]
The Ash Grey Revolution
- In Yukuni, Asahi learns from classmates that the stone monument she discovered will be researched. She meets fellow magical girls Lavi and Sasha when they respond to a distress call, only to witness two magical girls witch out before them when no Grief Seeds are available. Kyubey confirms this fate, and Asahi shoots him. A local girl named Urara Yume witnesses everything.[86]
- Over the following days, the trio struggles with the truth. Lavi is forced to reveal her identity to save her friend Shirogane from a Witch's Kiss. Sasha asks the others to be her friends and help her face reality. They begin fighting together.[86]
- Urara begins subtly supporting them on her internet broadcast with Kurara. Asahi saves her classmate Kuroda from a Witch's Kiss, revealing her identity. He asks her to help him confess to Haitani at the upcoming festival.[86]
- Urara seeks out the trio and learns the truth about Magical Girls. She offers to introduce them as guests on her festival broadcast to tell Yukuni about their existence.[86]
- At the Yukuni All-star Festival, the trio sense the Witches of the two original girls. While fighting them, one Witch escapes. A truck explodes at the festival grounds, killing Haitani. Kuroda blames Asahi and all magical girls, vowing revenge.[86]
- In the following week, public backlash intensifies. Kuroda forms an extermination group against magical girls while Shirogane forms a protector group. The trio witness another girl witch out after being cornered. Lavi takes responsibility publicly on a broadcast.[86]
- The trio endure daily harassment. They meet folklorist Tasuke Satomi, who takes a knife for Asahi and explains his theory about magical girls being erased from history by an unseen force. He wants to help them try again.[86]
- Public opinion slowly shifts. The six remaining magical girls work together, restoring some trust. Three of them sacrifice themselves rather than witch out, asking Kuroda to make peace.[86]

- At a unity ceremony, the Witch that caused the festival explosion appears. Asahi summons the dead to help the exterminators find closure. The summoned spirits suddenly relive their final moments, causing a bus to crash and kill everyone aboard, including Shirogane. Urara contracts to save her dying friend Kurara, who then rejects her for letting others die.[86]
- Tasuke theorizes the universe's immune system caused this. He suggests eliminating all Magical Girls and Witches to create a custom preventing future contracts.[86]
- In the days following, students blame the trio. Kyubey suggests they go to Kamihama City to observe attempts there to publicize magical girls. Tasuke agrees they should investigate. Lavi holds a broken pocket watch with five minutes remaining until midnight, when she will finally give up. Tasuke calls it the folklore of midnight.[86]
Arc 2 Prologue
This event takes place a long time before the start of Arc 2, but it is central to its story. To keep up linearity, it's been placed here despite likely taking place a long time ago, possibly during the time of Mirrors Story, which takes place during the Undated Period.
- Kagome Satori, a recent transfer student, is attacked by a Familiar in the Mirrors Labyrinth. The creature demands she sign a "Written Oath" to destroy Magical Girls. Kagome, who doesn't know anything about Magical Girls, is terrified and considers writing her name on the document to appease it, however Iroha arrives and defeats the Familiar.[87]
- Afterwards, Kagome learns the truth about Magical Girls and Witches. She is distressed that Magical Girls fight and die in secret, unknown and unthanked by the people they protect. Tasuke Satomi advises Kagome that, as someone who knows the truth, her role is to "record" and spread awareness of the Magical Girls' plight, as this could be a way to save them. Kagome decides against making a contract with Kyubey, prioritizing this promise to record their reality. Kyubey explains that the system, where Magical Girls become Witches, is necessary for the universe's energy and humanity's survival.[87]
